Seminole Freshmen Stand Out in Season-Opening Sweep.
BATON ROUGE, La. - Florida State Indoor Volleyball freshmen Khori Louis, Audrey Koenig and Emery Dupes each had strong debuts in leading the Seminoles (1-0) to a season-opening sweep over Northern Arizona, 3-0 (25-15, 25-14, 25-16), on Friday at the Tiger Classic in Baton Rouge, La.
Middle blocker Louis powered a team-high 11 kills in 19 attacks, hitting .474 and adding two blocks in an impressive performance. Koenig, an outside hitter, added eight kills and hit .353 along with four digs.
Freshman libero Dupes led all players with 20 digs, helping keep the Lumber Jacks (0-1) contained as they hit just .026 (21 kills, 18 attack errors) in the match.
"Overall, I'm pleased with the first match," FSU Head Coach Chris Poole said following his 857th career win. "We started slow the first few points but took control of the set and match. The first weekend is always unpredictable and when you throw in all the things we've had to deal with in preseason, I'm proud of the way we battled."
The Seminoles totaled 71 digs in the three sets played, as junior Lauryn Burrows added 11 and redshirt junior outside hitter Morgan Chacon also had 11. Chacon recorded nine kills in the match along with two blocks, falling just shy of a double-double.
Burrows added a team-best two service aces, which came in consecutive fashion in the second set.
Senior libero Caroline Golden, who returned near home as a Mandeville, La., native, was also stellar with 10 digs.
Redshirt junior setter Lily Tessier totaled 33 assists in the match, her most since having 39 against North Carolina on Nov. 17, 2019. She also chipped in with two blocks.
The win for the Seminoles snaps a three-year skid in season openers, getting their first opening-day victory since defeating Baylor on the road in 2017.
FSU was dominant in the opening set, winning 25-15 behind Chacon's five kills. The Seminoles would do much of the same in the second frame, winning 25-14 to head to the brief intermission comfortably at 2-0.
Defensively, the Seminoles were virtually everywhere through two sets. NAU was hitting just .041 and Dupes was at a match-high 14 digs while Burrows added eight and Golden had seven. Chacon led FSU with eight kills in 25 swings at the break, while Louis (7 kills) and Koenig (5 kills) were efficient offensively, both hitting above .400. It was all FSU needed as it closed out with a strong third set to win the match.

Noles Fall to Michigan at Tiger Classic.
BATON ROUGE, La. - A strong offensive showing by the Michigan Volleyball Team propelled the Wolverines (2-0) to a 3-0 (14-25, 19-25, 16-25) win over Florida State Indoor Volleyball on Saturday morning at the Tiger Classic at the Pete Maravich Assembly Center in Baton Rouge, La.
Due to the threat of Hurricane Ida in Louisiana, Saturday morning's match was FSU's last of the tournament as it finished 1-1. The Seminoles (1-1) defeated Northern Arizona, 3-0, on Friday night to begin the season.
"This was a humbling match for our young team," FSU Head Coach Chris Poole said. "We need these matches for a learning opportunity. We had our moments but were very inconsistent and gave up runs with our passing breaking down. We just need more time on the court training and working through our inexperience."
Freshman libero Emery Dupes begins her career with double-digit digs in consecutive matches as she finished with 11 against Michigan. The Wolverines totaled eight team blocks and stymied an FSU offense that hit .112 in the match. Freshman outside hitter Audrey Koenig led FSU with six kills while sophomore right-side hitter Sydney Conley added five after coming off a career-high seven vs. Northern Arizona.
Redshirt junior setter Lily Tessier picked up 17 assists.
Michigan middle blocker May Pertofsky was tough to handle as she finished with 10 kills in 13 swings for a .769 hitting percentage. Fellow middle blocker Jacque Boney also had eight kills on a .571 hitting percentage as the Wolverines ran their most efficient offense through their middles.
Michigan took the first set 25-14 after pulling away late. Junior middle blocker Emma Clothier had her offensive game going with three kills in four attacks, but the Wolverines hit .281 in the frame, helped by Pertofsky's four kills in four swings.
FSU was more competitive in the second set, getting out to a 3-1 lead before the Wolverines started taking momentum. A service error by Michigan's Paige Jones knotted the second set at 8-8, but Michigan went on a 13-4 scoring run to put FSU in a 21-12 hole. The Seminoles hit .125 in the second set while Michigan improved offensively by hitting .359 in the second frame.
The Seminoles held strong in the final set, cutting their deficit to 17-14 on a Michigan attack error. But UM won eight of its next 10 points to close out the match.

Seminoles Dominant in Win over Tulane.
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - Florida State Volleyball opened its home season in style with an impressive 3-0 (25-23, 25-13, 25-13) sweep over Tulane on Thursday night at the Four Points Tallahassee Seminole Volleyball Invitational at Tully Gym.
After squeezing out a tough opening set over the Green Wave (3-2), the Seminoles (2-1) got hot in the second and third sets offensively. FSU hit .404 for the match, including .441 in the second set (15 kills and no attack errors) and .682 in the third frame (16 kills and one attack error). FSU held Tulane to just .193 hitting.
Redshirt junior outside hitter Morgan Chacon led the way with 10 kills while hitting .370. Sophomore right-side hitter Sydney Conley was very efficient with a career-high tying seven kills in nine attacks, while junior middle blocker Emma Clothier added eight kills, a .429 hitting percentage and three blocks.
FSU recorded a season-high seven team blocks against Tulane, which managed just one block. Redshirt junior setter Lily Tessier equaled her career high in kills with four. She added 26 assists and became the 23rd Seminole to surpass the 800 career assists mark.
Tessier also led the Seminoles with eight digs, while freshman Emery Dupes and Chacon each added six. Senior Caroline Golden added four digs.
Clothier and Chacon contributed the most with 10.5 points apiece.
FSU also added five service aces on the night, with Dupes recording two.
Winning the first set shifted the momentum in FSU's favor, as it held a 24-20 set-point advantage. But Tulane fought back hard with three consecutive points to cut it to 24-23. Freshman middle blocker Khori Louis came through by finding a soft spot in the back row that she finished with a kill to give FSU the 1-0 lead.
With Lauryn Burrows serving well, the Seminoles took major advantage in the second set. Leading 14-10, Burrows led a string of five consecutive points behind the service line as FSU took a 19-19 lead and never looked back, winning the second frame 25-13.
FSU finished off the Green Wave with another dominant set, exploiting things midway through to stretch a 5-5 tie to a 21-11 lead which included a 16-6 run in the third, winning 25-13.

Seminoles Earn Comeback Win over Georgia.
ORLANDO, Fla. - A wild fifth set that was finally decided by a kill from sophomore Sydney Conley highlighted Florida State Volleyball's five-set win over Georgia (22-25, 25-22, 21-25, 25-15, 15-13) on Thursday night at the UCF Invitational in Orlando.
Forcing the Bulldogs (3-4) to call a timeout with FSU leading 12-8 in the fifth set, Georgia stormed back to take a 13-12 lead and put the Seminoles (5-1) on the brink of surrendering the final frame. Redshirt junior outside hitter Morgan Chacon knotted the score again with a kill to make it 13-13, then an attack error by Georgia outside hitter Kacie Evans created match point for the Seminoles.
Conley's kill off the assist from redshirt junior setter Lily Tessier, who had a career night, secured another big win for one of the youngest teams in the country.
"This was a really tough match," FSU Head Coach Chris Poole said. "UGA is physical and did a good job of taking us out of our offense. This was a great comeback win for a young team on the road."
Florida State went down 2-1 overall after the Bulldogs won the third set, 25-21. It was a night of career performances for several Seminoles, including Tessier. The Fort Myers, Fla., native totaled a career high 51 assists and added 13 digs, four blocks and three kills. It marked the fifth double-double of her career.
A pair of talented freshmen in outside hitter Audrey Koenig and middle blocker Khori Louis each tallied 15 kills in the five-set affair. Koenig added seven digs, and Louis' 15 put-downs included an impressive .500 hitting percentage and six blocks. Louis contributed a team-high 18.0 points on the night.
Another freshman in libero Emery Dupes tallied her young career high with 23 digs and also added four assists. Junior Lauryn Burrows continues to have a strong season as she picked up a season-best 15 digs, while Caroline Golden added 11. Burrows also recorded two service aces.
Chacon recorded her 15th double-double, including her first of the season, with 10 kills and 17 digs. Junior middle blocker Emma Clothier was also crucial with 12 kills, two service aces and three blocks (one solo).
FSU moves to 5-1 for the first time since 2017, when it started that season with a 6-1 record.
Georgia's Evans had a match-high 29 kills in 81 swings to lead the Bulldogs. FSU barely out-hit UGA .215-.200, but the Bulldogs tallied more blocks at 12-9.

Noles Fall in Tight Five-Setter at UCF.
ORLANDO, Fla. - Florida State Volleyball fought to the bitter end, but it wasn't enough as it fell at UCF on Friday night, 3-2 (20-25, 25-21, 26-24, 18-25, 13-15), in its second match of the UCF Invitational in Orlando.
The Seminoles (5-2) snap their four-match win streak after defeating Georgia in five sets on Thursday and winning all three matches at their home tournament last week.
As shown on the scoreboard, the match was relatively even throughout. FSU hit .180 while the Knights (4-4) hit .184. Both teams recorded 13 blocks, UCF totaled 67 kills to FSU's 63, and the Seminoles amassed 93 digs compared to 92 by UCF.
"Our team played hard, but there was just too much experience on the UCF side," FSU Head Coach Chris Poole said. "This was basically the same team UCF had in the spring when we knocked them off 3-2 at home, but our inexperience showed under pressure tonight. The positive is that we battled hard and fought until the end."
Junior middle blocker and returning All-American Emma Clothier caught fire in the match, recording 14 kills, hitting .407 and adding eight blocks. She scored in a variety of ways on Friday night and proved to be a difficult individual matchup for UCF. Clothier also added two service aces.
Redshirt junior outside hitter Morgan Chacon had another double-double with 14 kills, 16 digs and six blocks.
It was another tremendous performance from redshirt junior setter Lily Tessier. The Fort Myers native tallied 49 assists and added a career-high 19 digs as well as three blocks.
Senior defensive specialist Caroline Golden tied her collegiate career high with 21 digs, matching the same total she had against Houston Baptist when she played at Southeastern Louisiana on Nov. 3, 2018.
Freshman libero Emery Dupes once against surpassed her career high with 26 digs, coming off 23 digs recorded vs. Georgia.
Freshman middle blocker Khori Louis added nine kills along with five blocks, and freshman middle blocker Skye Ekes gained some valuable time with eight kills.
Florida State showed a lot of heart battling in the final set. UCF had match point leading 14-9, but kills by Chacon and Tessier kept the Seminoles in it trailing by three. A solo block by Clothier cut the deficit to 14-12, and a UCF attack error put the pressure on the Knights as FSU was down only 14-13.
The Knights won the match on a kill by McKenna Melville, who finished with 27 kills and 28 digs.

Florida State Sweeps FGCU.
by Stephen Stone
ORLANDO, Fla. - Florida State Volleyball earned its fifth three-set sweep of the season and its sixth win overall as it defeated FGCU, 3-0 (25-20, 25-19, 25-16), on Saturday night in its final match of the UCF Invitational.
The Seminoles (6-2) leave Orlando having won two of their three matches, with victories over FGCU and Georgia.
Junior middle blocker Emma Clothier had another strong performance for FSU. The Carrollton, Texas, native recorded 12 kills and hit .429 while adding four blocks and two service aces.
The Eagles (7-1) hit just .133 in the match, as FSU forced them into 23 attack errors. The Noles recorded seven team blocks to FGCU's five.
Freshman middle blocker Khori Louis was productive once again, recording six kills, a .333 hitting percentage and adding three blocks.
Redshirt junior outside hitter Morgan Chacon added seven kills and nine digs, while freshman Audrey Koenig also had seven kills. Freshman libero Emery Dupes led FSU with 10 digs, while junior Lauryn Burrows had seven.
Senior Caroline Golden delivered three service aces for FSU. Redshirt junior setter Lily Tessier picked up 30 assists in her three sets played.
FSU won the first set, 25-20. FSU held the Eagles to just .179 hitting in the set, as Chacon led the way with three kills in five swings while Clothier added three kills of her own. Chacon's kill clinched the opening set, which FSU led by as many as seven points at 21-14.
The second set was won 25-19 by FSU, but the Seminoles needed to pull away late. The set was knotted at 18-18, but following an FSU timeout the Seminoles stormed to a 6-0 run as Clothier played a big role with a kill and a block in the scoring spree. Sydney Conley terminated the set with a kill of her own to put the Seminoles ahead 2-0 overall. FSU would follow with a 25-16 win in the third to close out the match.

Noles Take Down No. 14 Gators on Emotional Night.
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - Wednesday night was a fitting night for the Florida State Volleyball Team.
In a match that was dedicated to Seminole legend Brianna Barry, and with several pre-match tributes inspiring the crowd, the Seminoles (7-2) channeled that energy and gave their most impressive performance of the season in defeating No. 14 Florida, 3-1 (24-26, 25-15, 25-19, 25-20), behind a raucous capacity crowd at Tully Gym.
"Bri would be smiling from Heaven right now. I assure you," FSU Head Coach Chris Poole said. "There's nothing more she would have been happier about. The players played inspired. They played hard. I felt the first game we had control for most of it and just let go at the very end. So when they got back over between one and two, we said 'You just have to be consistent. You have to finish the game.' They did that the other three (games). They played great. I'm really proud of them."
Florida State's victory snaps a four-match losing streak to the Gators (4-4). It also marks the 27th Top 15 program win in school history, with the last one coming just last season when FSU defeated No. 14 Notre Dame, 3-2, at Tully Gym.
Barry was the focal point of the evening, with several family and friends in town and a full gym to honor her tremendous life. A 2 ½ minute video tribute began the night, followed by a "donut toast" to honor her favorite sweet treat.
From there, two banners were revealed to retire her jersey as well as induct her into the FSU Athletics Hall of Fame. Her family was honored on the court with a framed jersey and medallion.
Redshirt junior outside hitter Morgan Chacon was one of the stars of the match for FSU, recording her third double-double in the last four matches with 14 kills and 14 digs. She kept UF off-balanced throughout the night, and defensively she contributed to Florida hitting just .239.
"I know all of us feel like Bri's energy was with us tonight," Chacon said. "The fire and the passion that I saw in all my teammates and what I had myself, I feel like her energy was here with us and it made the win even more special."
Freshman middle blocker Khori Louis was hard to stop and proved to be a mismatch. The Tallahassee native had 12 kills in 20 swings with just two attack errors, hitting .500. Against both Southeastern Conference schools this season in UF and Georgia, Louis has hit .500 against each of them.
FSU is also 2-0 vs. those two SEC schools this year.
Junior middle blocker Emma Clothier had another strong match, recording nine kills, hitting .300, adding four blocks and getting two service aces. The Carrollton, Texas, native has been tough up front but is becoming one of the top servers in the ACC.
Freshman outside hitter Audrey Koenig added 10 kills, while fellow freshman Emery Dupes led FSU with 17 digs. Redshirt junior setter Lily Tessier had 42 assists along with six digs.
Freshman Skye Ekes was a big contributor as well, recording four kills and adding three blocks in the big win.
After controlling most of the match and coming back from a smaller deficit in the fourth set, Poole was impressed by his team's maturity despite being so young.
"It's going to be something they can draw back on," Poole added. "We hadn't beaten Florida in four years. We beat them in 2012, 2013, 2014 and 2016, but we hadn't the last four years, so it was good to get out and take a young team. Basically, we're starting over again because we had such a large senior group graduate last year. It's a very young group, and I think they're going to get better as the season progresses."

Florida State Volleyball Grabs Key ACC-Opening Win.
SOUTH BEND, Ind. - Led by three players with 20+ digs, the Florida State Volleyball team showcased a strong defensive effort in defeating Notre Dame on the road, 3-1 (25-21, 24-26, 25-16, 25-22), in the ACC opener at Purcell Pavilion at the Joyce Center in South Bend, Ind.
The Seminoles (8-2, 1-0) recorded a season-high 98 digs in four sets of action, as junior Lauryn Burrows totaled a career-high 23 digs while redshirt junior outside hitter Morgan Chacon also added a career-best 23 digs. Freshman libero Emery Dupes rounded out the talented trio with 20 digs, as the Fighting Irish (3-8, 0-1) found it difficult to take advantage of any open hitting lanes.
"Good win against a good team on the road," FSU Head Coach Chris Poole said following his 195th career ACC win. "Notre Dame has played one of the top schedules in the country including taking No. 3 Ohio State to five sets last weekend on the road. They always play tough and are well coached. We made more errors in this match but a lot of that I contribute to a young team on the road for our first conference match. We will learn from this experience and keep getting better."
Notre Dame attacked at just a .117 clip, with FSU getting better as the match went on. The Irish hit just .083 in the third set then went down to .060 in the fourth set.
The offense of sophomore right-side hitter Sydney Conley was something Notre Dame could not stop on Friday night. The Oviedo, Fla., native pummeled 11 kills and hit .429 on the night.
Also reaching double-digit kills was Chacon (13), freshman Audrey Koenig (10) and junior Emma Clothier (10). Chacon tallied her 16th career double-double and her fourth in her last five matches played.
Senior Caroline Golden recorded three of FSU's six service aces, as the Seminoles boast one of their best serving groups in the Coach Poole era (since 2008). Chacon added two aces while Tessier had one.
Freshman middle blocker Khori Louis had a career performance in front of the net with eight blocks while adding nine kills. FSU registered 12.0 team blocks but Notre Dame won in that category with 14.5.
Tessier had 48 assists, 12 digs and tied her career high with five blocks in another tremendous all-around performance.
Notre Dame was led by the swinging of Charley Niego, who posted a match-high 17 kills.

Seminoles Fall at No. 5 Louisville.
LOUISVILLE, Ky. - A strong offensive display by fifth-ranked Louisville volleyball was too much for Florida State as it fell on the road, 0-3 (13-25, 16-25, 19-25), at L&N Federal Credit Union Arena on Sunday afternoon.
The loss was the Seminoles' (8-3, 1-1) first in ACC play this season, splitting their road weekend as they began the conference season with a 3-1 win at Notre Dame on Friday night.
The Cardinals (12-0, 2-0) hit .439 in the match, led by Claire Chaussee's 14 kills and .619 hitting percentage.
"It's always disappointing to lose a match, but Louisville is a very good team," FSU Head Coach Chris Poole said. "There is simply a difference in experience of our two teams this year. Louisville has back a couple of award-winning super seniors and that extra maturity is making a big difference for some teams around the country.
"Most of the top teams in the ACC and the country have that advantage this year. We will learn from this experience and keep working hard. We are excited to be back home this weekend and have a chance to train all week. If there was a positive today, our best set was the third and we kept fighting. Just too many mistakes under pressure."
Junior defensive specialist Lauryn Burrows led Florida State with 13 digs to finish a strong weekend for the Marietta, Ga., native. She recorded a career-best 23 digs in FSU's ACC opener at Notre Dame.
Freshman outside hitter Audrey Koenig had an efficient performance, hitting .421 and producing eight kills with no attack errors. Junior middle blocker Emma Clothier also swung well with eight kills and a .300 hitting percentage.
"I thought Audrey and Emma both had a good day," Poole added. "This team is determined to get better."
Freshman middle blocker Khori Louis contributed with seven kills and two blocks, while sophomore right-side hitter Sydney Conley added five kills and two blocks.
With a high sideout percentage by Louisville throughout the match, including 94 percent in the second set, Florida State was unable to find much rhythm. The Seminoles recorded a .186 hitting percentage in the contest, and was out-blocked by the Cardinals 6.0-2.0.

Seminoles Deliver Convincing Win over NC State.
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - Attacking at a .367 clip, Florida State Volleyball used an efficient offensive effort to get past a talented NC State team on Friday night, 3-1 (25-16, 24-26, 25-12, 25-21), in front of a strong crowd in what was a Mental Health Awareness Match at Tully Gym.
With many fans donning their green gear in support of the event inspired by senior middle blocker Marissa Stockman, the Seminoles (9-3, 2-1) provided a spark themselves. FSU hit .367 against the Wolfpack (7-7, 1-2), led by freshman middle blocker Khori Louis' 14 kills, .636 hitting percentage and eight blocks.
It was FSU's best hitting percentage so far in conference play this season, and its second-highest this season behind a .404 effort vs. Tulane.
Contributions were aplenty on Friday night. Besides the dominant play of Louis, junior middle blocker Emma Clothier always answered when her number was called. Off the quick attack or the slide, she put down 13 kills, hit .632, delivered two more aces and added four digs. When FSU was in a pinch at times during the match, Clothier found ways to stop NC State runs.
Redshirt junior outside hitter Morgan Chacon heated up as the match went on and finished with 15 kills, a .324 hitting percentage, eight digs and two blocks. From sets 2-4, Chacon hit .414 with 12 kills and just one attack error.
Redshirt junior setter Lily Tessier continued her tremendous season with 49 assists, six kills in seven attacks, one service ace, six digs and four blocks. The Fort Myers, Fla., native is quickly emerging as one of the best setters in the conference and contributes to FSU in a multitude of ways.
Three Seminoles finished with double-digit digs as senior Caroline Golden totaled a team-high 14, while freshman Emery Dupes had 11 and Lauryn Burrows added 10.
NC State hit .158 in the match and was out-blocked by FSU 9.0-4.0. Outside hitter Melissa Evans offered a tricky left-handed swing that resulted in a match-high 18 kills to lead the Wolfpack.

Volleyball Moves to 3-1 in ACC Play.
by Stephen Stone
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - Energized by a season-high tying 13 blocks, Florida State Volleyball delivered its sixth three-set sweep of the young season as it defeated North Carolina, 3-0 (25-17, 25-17, 25-20), in front of another sizeable crowd on Family Day at Tully Gym.
The Seminoles' (10-3, 3-1) 13.0 team blocks is their most in a three-set match this season. Their season-high tying total of 13 came previously in a five-setter at UCF on Sept. 10.
Not only did Florida State get the job done on the opposite side of the net, its attacking was on point as well. FSU recorded a .309 attacking percentage, its third-highest of the season. In matches this weekend vs. NC State (W, 3-1 on Friday) and Sunday vs. the Tar Heels (11-4, 0-4), FSU hit .367 and .309, respectively.
Helping lead the charge was freshman outside hitter Audrey Koenig, who delivered 11 kills and a .360 hitting percentage. In 25 swings, Koenig managed just two attack errors in what was an efficient performance.
Freshman middle blocker Khori Louis had her second straight match with eight blocks. The Tallahassee native also had six kills and a .417 hitting percentage, wrapping up another outstanding weekend.
Junior middle blocker Emma Clothier added seven kills and hit .583 in the match, also finishing with two more service aces and five blocks. The returning All-American and Carrollton, Texas, native also had four digs in a stat-stuffing output.
Freshman libero Emery Dupes played an outstanding match from the back row, recording a team-best 10 digs and adding two service aces. Junior Lauryn Burrows added six digs in the match.
Redshirt junior setter Lily Tessier recorded 30 assists as well as one service ace, four digs and a kill in the win over the Tar Heels.
Adding to Florida State's block party was sophomore Sydney Conley, who totaled four, as well as Morgan Chacon's three bat-downs. FSU was able to escape UNC's front line for the most part as the Tar Heels only had one team block in the match.

Florida State Drops Four-Setter at Miami.
CORAL GABLES, Fla. - A strong defensive effort by rival Miami was too much for Florida State Volleyball as it fell to the Hurricanes, 3-1 (27-25, 21-25, 22-25, 11-25), on Wednesday night at the James L. Knight Sports Complex.
The Hurricanes (13-2, 4-1) recorded 85 digs in the four-set match, getting under much of the Seminoles' (10-4, 3-2) attack throughout the night. FSU was also hurt by its 29 attack errors while Miami limited itself to just 13.
"We had some disappointing play on the road," FSU Head Coach Chris Poole said. "We had 58 errors on our side of the net in a four-set match. That is not normal for our team. Miami played great and deserved the win. We need to learn from this experience."
Florida State's offense came largely through its middle blockers, as junior Emma Clothier led FSU with 13 kills and reigning ACC Freshman of the Week Khori Louis recorded 11 kills and a .348 hitting percentage.
The Seminoles were unable to get their blocking going, mustering two team blocks while the Hurricanes recorded 12.5.
Five Seminoles amassed double-figure totals in digs, led by Morgan Chacon and Emery Dupes' 16 digs apiece. Redshirt junior setter Lily Tessier added another double-double with 37 assists and 15 digs. Senior Caroline Golden (13 digs) and junior Lauryn Burrows (12 digs) each made some highlight reel plays in the back row on Wednesday night.
FSU's one set that was won came in the opening set. It took a 15-8 lead on a service ace from Burrows, but Miami came back to take a 23-22 lead on a kill. Both teams traded points in the next five rallies until an attack error by Miami and a kill by Audrey Koenig allowed FSU to take the opening frame 27-25.
Miami made its adjustments and took control of the match beginning in the second set. FSU made late comebacks in sets two and three, but the Hurricanes separated themselves in the fourth set to take the match.

DURHAM, N.C. - In one of its most crisp performances of the season, Florida State Volleyball walked out of Cameron Indoor Stadium with a 3-1 (25-23, 19-25, 25-19, 25-19) win on Sunday afternoon, defeating Duke for the 10th consecutive time.

Florida State came back from a 22-20 hole to win the first set 25-23. One of the key points came with the set tied at 23-23 and a difficult dig by Dupes sparked a winning rally as Clothier finished with the kill to make it 24-23 Seminoles. The set ended on a Duke attack error that sailed out of bounds. FSU faced late deficits of 18-20, 19-21 and 20-22 before coming back to win.
Duke hit .406 in the second set to help break a deadlock midway through and win 10 of the next 14 points to knot it up at 1-1. Louis hit efficiently through the first two sets, showing seven kills and just one error in 12 attacks. Dupes led FSU with eight digs through the first two sets.

By Hee-Dee Walenga, FSU Sports Information intern
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - Florida State Volleyball kicked off Paint It Pink weekend at Tully Gymnasium with another resounding victory, 3-0 (25-9, 25-22, 25-12), against Virginia on Friday night. The Seminoles (12-4, 5-2) recorded their seventh three-set sweep of the season.
FSU started the match strong by dominating the first set and hitting .583. The Noles had an efficient offensive evening in front of a noisy Tully crowd as they ended the match with a season-high hitting percentage of .440.
Redshirt junior Morgan Chacon led FSU with 14 kills, five of which came in the opening set. She finished with a hitting percentage of .393 and a service ace.
Sophomore outside hitter Sydney Conley had an efficient evening with nine kills, a hitting percentage of .562, and not a single error in 16 attacks.
Freshman middle blocker Khori Louis contributed on both ends with a match-high four blocks, seven kills and hit .545. Freshman outside hitter Audrey Koenig and junior middle blocker Emma Clothier contributed to the defensive effort by coming up with three blocks each.
Redshirt junior setter Lily Tessier and senior libero Caroline Golden proved to be stiff competition for the Virginia attack as they ended the match with nine and seven digs, respectively. Tessier added 32 assists in the match, while freshman setter Ava Pitchford pitched in with three of her own.
Tessier had an assist percentage of .561 in the match, a season high for the talented redshirt junior.
It seemed as though the visitors were mounting a comeback in the second set when they were up 17-15, but the Noles responded by winning the next four points out of timeout, which culminated with an authoritative slam by Clothier. Louis finished the close second set with a kill from the middle to put FSU ahead 2-0 before it cruised to a win in the third frame.
Virginia's .108 hitting percentage in the match was the fourth-lowest allowed by the Seminoles this season, and the second-lowest in ACC play.

Poole Becomes Fastest Coach Ever to 200 ACC Wins.
BLACKSBURG, Va. - Florida State Volleyball Head Coach Chris Poole reached his milestone 200th ACC win in resounding fashion as the Seminoles swept Virginia Tech, 3-0 (25-14, 25-19, 25-14), on Friday night at Cassell Coliseum in Blacksburg, Va.
Poole achieved his 200th ACC win in record form, becoming the fastest coach ever to reach the milestone in terms of matches coached. His 200th ACC victory comes in his 256th match coached in conference play, besting the previous fastest mark of 267 matches coached by Duke's Jolene Nagel.
The 14th-year head coach at FSU, who owns 869 career victories between his days at FSU, Arkansas, Arkansas State and Arkansas Tech, is just the fourth ACC head coach to reach 200 conference wins.
"I'm very fortunate to have had great players, a great staff and an administration that has been supportive of our program," Poole said of his record-breaking win. "I'm really proud of the team. We faced some adversity this week with our health and we challenged the players to play up to their fullest potential."
The Seminoles (13-5, 6-3) continue to defy the odds of their youthful roster, playing in their 18th match this season to total the amount of matches they played in their COVID-shortened 2020 season. The win over the Hokies (9-12, 0-9) marks the halfway point of conference play this year.
In what was the quickest match of the FSU season at one hour, 11 minutes, the Seminoles dominated from the very start. Guided by the veteran play of redshirt junior outside hitter Morgan Chacon and junior middle blocker Emma Clothier, FSU hit .316 for the match compared to Virginia Tech's .046 hitting percentage.
Chacon continued her stellar offensive play with a team-high 11 kills and just two errors in 25 attacks, hitting at a .360 clip. She added eight digs and two service aces. Clothier hit .500 with nine kills in 14 attacks.
Freshman libero Emery Dupes was active in the back row, averaging five digs per set with a total of 15 - her second-highest this season in a three-set match. Talented defensive specialists Caroline Golden and Lauryn Burrows each added eight digs apiece.
Redshirt junior setter Lily Tessier ran another efficient offense, picking up 30 assists with four kills, four digs and one block. Sophomore right-side hitter Sydney Conley contributed with five kills and two blocks, while freshman outside hitter Audrey Koenig added seven kills and two blocks.

Noles Complete Perfect Road Weekend at Wake Forest.
by Stephen Stone
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - The Florida State Volleyball team wrapped up back-to-back road sweeps on Sunday as it took down Wake Forest, 3-0 (25-21, 25-17, 25-19), at Reynolds Gym.
The victory by the Seminoles (14-5, 7-3) comes after sweeping Virginia Tech on the road on Friday.
"I've never been more proud of a team," FSU Head Coach Chris Poole said. "Most of the players on the team have been trying to fight off illness. We could have laid down and given up with the way they were feeling, but they fought through the adversity. Simply an amazing effort by every player over the weekend. This is a special group of young ladies."
Florida State was in control for virtually the entire match against a Wake Forest team that took Miami to five sets on Friday night. FSU sided out nearly 75 percent of the match and accumulated 65 digs, its second-most in a three-set match this season. The Demon Deacons (11-10, 2-8) found it difficult to put balls down as it hit just .181 against FSU.
Freshman libero Emery Dupes and junior defensive specialist Lauryn Burrows both impressed with 14 digs each. Redshirt junior setter Lily Tessier produced a double-double with 38 assists and 10 digs to go along with four blocks and four kills, continuing her ascension as one of the most talented setters in the conference.
Florida State recorded a .331 hitting percentage in the match and totaled 11.0 team blocks, its fifth match of the year with double-digit blocking numbers. Junior middle blocker Emma Clothier led the way with seven blocks while freshman Khori Louis added three.
Clothier flirted with a triple-double in the match, recording 12 kills with a .478 hitting percentage, seven blocks and tying a career high with eight digs. Sophomore Sydney Conley had 10 kills and a .360 hitting percentage to go with three digs and two blocks and redshirt junior Morgan Chacon added 10 kills, a .286 hitting percentage and seven digs.
The Seminoles hit .425 in the opening set and sided out nearly 71 percent of the time, not allowing Wake Forest to get in a groove from the service line. Conley recorded seven kills in the opening frame while Clothier added six to help FSU win a tight 25-21 first set.
Five team blocks in the second set contributed to a 25-17 win, spear-headed by a 5-0 start. Dupes led FSU with 13 digs at the break, covering extremely well throughout the match, while Burrows added eight of her own through two sets.
The third set got tight as Wake Forest cut its deficit to 20-19, forcing an FSU timeout. The Seminoles followed with a 5-0 scoring run to end the match, highlighted by an incredible rally and great hustle from Burrows to help FSU take a 22-19 lead.

Ekes Leads Florida State Past Boston College.
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - Freshman middle blocker Skye Ekes put together a career performance in leading Florida State Volleyball to a 3-0 sweep (25-20, 25-16, 25-15) over Boston College on Friday night at Tully Gym.
The Sarasota, Fla., native tallied a career-best and match-leading 13 kills for the Seminoles (15-5, 8-3), whom recorded their third consecutive sweep in conference play. Ekes recorded a .417 hitting percentage and added two digs and two blocks in the win.
"Really proud of the team tonight," FSU Head Coach Chris Poole said. "We've had to deal with a lot of adversity in the past two weeks, but the players really stepped up tonight. I'm excited to see Skye play so well. She has played in every position on the front row and continues to get better every week. We have confidence that she can play any position that we need her help in, and she has continued to produce when needed."
Junior middle blocker Emma Clothier added 10 kills in 17 attacks, recording just two attack errors and adding four blocks, two service aces and three digs. The returning All-American and All-ACC Team member also hit .471.
Florida State registered a .303 hitting percentage in the contest, while the Eagles (13-12, 3-8) hit just .117. FSU also picked up seven team blocks compared to BC's four.
Freshman libero Emery Dupes recorded 15 digs in the three-set match, averaging 5.0 digs per set and continuing her impressive totals after averaging 4.83 per set last weekend. Redshirt junior outside hitter Morgan Chacon added nine digs, while Lauryn Burrows had seven and Caroline Golden had five.
Redshirt junior setter Lily Tessier was strong once again, tallying 34 assists while freshman Ava Pitchford recorded three.

Seminoles Win Marathon Match with Syracuse.
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - A tense back-and-forth match was ultimately won by Florida State Volleyball on Sunday as it defeated Syracuse, 3-2 (25-22, 25-23, 21-25, 24-26, 15-11), at Tully Gym in a contest that lasted nearly three hours.
The Seminoles (16-5, 9-3) finish the month of October with an 8-2 record as they head into the critical month of November. Freshman outside hitter Audrey Koenig blasted a career-high 18 kills, including some big points down the stretch, and finished with a .298 hitting percentage.
The Orange (15-9, 4-8) had all the momentum as it forced a decisive fifth set after being down 2-0, riding the play of Marina Markova and her 33 kills. In the final frame, FSU jumped out to a 4-0 lead, but Syracuse came right back with a 6-0 run to force an FSU timeout.
Syracuse later padded its lead to 9-5 on an FSU attack error, but the Seminoles managed to go on a 4-0 run as junior Emma Clothier recorded two huge kills during that stretch to knot the fifth set at 9-9.
That is when Koenig continued to be the game changer. A kill by Syracuse's Markova made it 10-9 Orange, but Koenig terminated three of the next four rallies to help the Seminoles to a 12-11 advantage.
FSU finished the match on a 4-0 run: Koenig and freshman Khori Louis recorded a block on Markova, followed by a kill from Sydney Conley to force match point at 14-11. An attack error by Syracuse's Polina Shemanova ended the exhausting match.
Five Seminoles finished in double-digit kills, as Clothier got hotter as the match went on and ended with 15 kills against a Syracuse team that was strong defensively. Conley also delivered a career-best 15 kills and hit .314 in the match, a consistent force throughout the entire contest.
Louis added 13 kills for FSU and Morgan Chacon had 10 kills and 20 digs, helping fend off a difficult Syracuse attack.
Freshman libero Emery Dupes totaled 22 digs in the match, while Lauryn Burrows and Caroline Golden were each vital with nine apiece.
Redshirt junior setter Lily Tessier totaled a career-high 60 assists along with 15 digs against the Orange.

Freshmen Lead Florida State to Another Road Win.
CLEMSON, S.C. - The three-headed freshmen attack of Audrey Koenig, Skye Ekes and Khori Louis was too much for Clemson volleyball on Friday night as Florida State earned a 3-1 road win over the Tigers at Jervey Gym.
FSU and its youngest team among Power 5 programs improves to 5-3 in true road matches this season.
Koenig recorded a match-high 16 kills and hit .405 for the Seminoles (17-5, 10-3), whom reach the double-digit mark in conference wins this season. Ekes was equally as impressive on the attack, totaling 15 kills and a .414 hitting percentage. Tallahassee native Louis had 15 kills, a .462 hitting percentage, four blocks and three digs.
"This team continues to fight through adversity and find ways to win," FSU Head Coach Chris Poole said. "We've got players out with injuries and players not at 100 percent playing because of our limited roster size. However they just keep battling.
"Georgia Tech will be a tough match for us. They are a very experienced team that runs one of the best offenses in the country. They will be a challenge for this young squad but also a great experience as they continue to improve."
Redshirt junior setter Lily Tessier aided an FSU offense that hit .326 in the match, as she totaled 52 assists and added 12 digs for her eighth double-double of the season. Freshman libero Emery Dupes averaged five digs per set as she totaled 20 for the match, while Lauryn Burrows added 11 digs and Caroline Golden had 10. Tessier is now up to 10.37 assists per set this season.
Junior middle blocker Emma Clothier added 10 kills in the win.
The victory by FSU extends its win streak over Clemson to 16 consecutive matches.
Following the intermission where the match was knotted at 1-1, FSU pulled away in the third set behind a .429 hitting percentage. Koenig recorded seven of her 16 kills in the third, while Ekes added five in the dominant frame.
Louis then guided FSU in the fourth set, which was not easy to close out. Clemson recorded a kill midway through to give the Tigers (11-13, 3-10) a 15-14 advantage. Ekes was key in a big 4-0 run to break a 17-17 tie into a 21-17 lead. After Clemson rattled off three straight points to cut FSU's lead to 21-20, Louis responded with a kill in what began a match-ending 4-0 run for the Seminoles.

Short-Handed Seminoles Snap Win Streak at No. 14 Georgia Tech.
ATLANTA, Ga. - Florida State Volleyball snapped its season-long five-match win streak on Sunday, falling at No. 14 Georgia Tech, 3-1 (14-25, 22-25, 25-23, 16-25), at O'Keefe Gymnasium.
The Seminoles (17-6, 10-4) played without returning All-ACC outside hitter Morgan Chacon for the second straight match, and were without the services of redshirt junior setter Lily Tessier against Georgia Tech. Both were out with injuries.
"I'm proud overall of how hard this team fought today," FSU Head Coach Chris Poole said. "We were without two full rotation players with both Morgan (Chacon) and Lily (Tessier) currently injured. They were replaced by two true freshmen with us playing five freshmen in our regular rotation tonight.
"Georgia Tech is a very good team with a lot of experience. Our young guns battled the whole match. We just aren't quite there yet but this group continues to fight through adversity, sickness and injuries every week. Such a fun, competitive team."
Freshman setter Ava Pitchford made her first career start for FSU against a difficult opponent and also near her hometown of Norcross, Ga., but impressed in what was her eighth match played this season. She recorded 34 assists, had five digs, three blocks and added three kills.
Despite being short-handed, FSU put together a valiant effort. It was highlighted by winning the third set, 25-23, against a Top 15 opponent on the road in the Yellow Jackets (21-3, 12-2). In that frame, FSU got behind 14-11, but used some strong hitting from freshmen Skye Ekes and Audrey Koenig to turn things around, as well as some stellar defense against Georgia Tech's sharp hitters.
A kill by Koenig put FSU ahead 24-22 in the third set, and following a kill by Georgia Tech's Erin Moss, Ekes responded with a cross-court kill from the left side to extend the set.
Ekes and Koenig each led the Seminoles with nine kills apiece, while freshman middle blocker Khori Louis had eight kills and three blocks. Lauryn Burrows and Emery Dupes, a couple of Marietta, Ga., natives, led FSU with 12 digs each. Caroline Golden contributed with nine digs.
Georgia Tech was able to hit .374 in the match, while FSU recorded a .162 hitting percentage.

Noles Take Down UNF, 3-1.
by Tim Hofmann
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - The Florida State volleyball team (18-6) prevailed in four sets (25-12, 25-15, 21-25, 25-23) against North Florida (22-5) Tuesday evening at Tully Gymnasium in a late-season non-conference match.
"I was really pleased with our effort in the first two sets," Head Coach Chris Poole said. "Give credit to North Florida. They never quit and made that fourth set really difficult for us. I'm proud of the girls for coming back and winning it at the end."
Trailing 21-18 in the fourth set, the Noles used a 7-2 run on the shoulders of Emery Dupes to take the match. Dupes tallied two aces in the final run and ended the night with a season-high six aces.
The Noles dominated the first set, as they hit a staggering .636 on their way to a 25-12 first set victory. Once again, the Noles came out firing in set two taking a 16-8 lead on their way to a 25-15 victory.
The third set was a different story for the Noles, as UNF battled FSU in the early going. With set three tied at 11, the Ospreys extended their lead to four, but the Noles battled back with three straight points to cut the deficit to one. UNF found their groove and were able to snatch set three from the Noles.
Skye Ekes tallied a game-high 13 kills for the Noles while Audrey Koenig added 11 kills on 26 attempts. Lily Tessier made her first appearance back from injury in the third set and made her presence known with three kills and eight assists.

SYRACUSE, N.Y. - The Florida State volleyball team (19-6, 11-4) bounced back from a tough second set for a 3-1 (25-20, 13-25, 25-20, 25-17) win over Syracuse (16-12, 5-12) Sunday afternoon in Syracuse, N.Y. The win gave the Seminoles its second win of the year against the Orange after a five-set win two weeks ago.
"I am extraordinary proud of this team," Head Coach Chris Poole said. "Due to injuries, we haven't been able to practice much together the past couple of weeks. We had to use a lineup today that we haven't used before, but they just continue to fight and compete with any adversity that is thrown their way. Every member on this team has made a difference in our success."
In her first game back since the Oct. 31 match against Syracuse, Morgan Chacon made an immediate impact in the first set, as she led the Noles with six kills. After Syracuse cut the lead to one at 13-12, the Noles got a kill from Khori Louis and an ace from Emery Dupes to extend the lead to three. The Noles were able to hold onto the lead for the remainder of the set.
After the Orange took Set 2, the Noles bounced back in a big way in Set 3, as they took an early 10-6 lead. Syracuse would cut that lead to one at 16-15, but the Noles took four out of the next five points to take command and eventually win the set.
The Noles dominated Set 4 thanks to a 7-1 run that allowed the Noles to take a 15-8 lead and cruise to a match-clinching set win.
The Noles got great production from Chacon, Emma Clothier and Audrey Koenig as all three reached double digits in the kills category. Clothier led the way with 15 kills while Chacon and Koenig added 14 and 12 kills, respectively.

Noles Fall to Miami in Five-Setter.
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - The Florida State Volleyball team lost just its second home match of the season on Friday in what was a thrilling five-setter vs. Miami, falling to the Hurricanes, 3-2 (25-19, 19-25, 25-20, 22-25, 12-15), in front of a packed crowd at Tully Gym.
The Seminoles (19-7, 11-5) held the edge most of the fifth set, leading 12-8 before Miami (22-4, 13-3) rattled off the final seven points to win the match.
Friday's rivalry matchup featured several entertaining long rallies between two of the top digging teams in the ACC. Redshirt junior setter Lily Tessier had the tall task of engineering FSU's offense against a good Miami defense and did a solid job with 51 assists as well as a team-best 22 digs, her 10th double-double of the season.
Redshirt junior outside hitter Morgan Chacon also had a double-double with 18 digs and 14 kills while adding three service aces. Freshman outside hitter Audrey Koenig had a team-best 17 kills, including several in the final set.
Junior middle blocker Emma Clothier had a consistent attack with 12 kills, a .320 hitting percentage, three digs and three blocks.
Freshman middle blocker Khori Louis totaled a team-best five blocks and also produced eight kills, while sophomore Sydney Conley added eight kills of her own.
Libero Emery Dupes made several impressive digs on the evening, recording 13 while Caroline Golden added 11. Lauryn Burrows aided the back row with seven digs.
Miami's Angela Grieve topped all players with 23 kills, while Janice Leao was most efficient with 10 kills and a .381 hitting percentage.
Florida State had its chance to close out the match in four sets as well. A kill by Koenig put FSU ahead 17-14, but Miami wound up coming back and tying the set at 18-18 to force an FSU timeout.
A couple of errors by the Hurricanes put FSU ahead 20-18, but the Seminoles returned with a couple errors of their own to knot the score at 20-20. The teams began trading points as Chacon's kill tied the set again at 22-22, but Miami pulled away with a few more kills from Grieve to send it into five sets.

Florida State Finishes Regular Season with Loss to No. 14 Georgia Tech.
By Hee-Dee Walenga, FSU Sports Information intern
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - The Florida State (19-9, 11-7) volleyball team fell at home in three sets (22-25, 14-25, 11-25) to No. 14 Georgia Tech (23-5, 14-4) on Friday night in what was the last match of the regular season.
Junior middle blocker Emma Clothier was the bright spot offensively for the Noles with a team-high eight kills, three blocks and a .333 attacking percentage. Freshman libero Emery Dupes led the team with 11 digs.
Morgan Chacon added six kills, while Audrey Koenig chipped in with five. Despite the loss, FSU was already assured fifth place in the ACC after Notre Dame fell to top-ranked Louisville, 3-1.
Florida State compiled a 19-9 overall record in a season where it fielded its youngest team since 1999, getting several breakthrough performances throughout the year from young talents like Skye Ekes, Koenig, Dupes, Khori Louis, Ava Pitchford and Sydney Conley. Veterans such as Chacon, Lily Tessier, Caroline Golden, Emma Clothier and Lauryn Burrows continued to make leaps in their own games to add to what has been a strong season so far.
Georgia Tech attacker Julia Bergmann had a solid performance with 15 kills and a .440 hitting percentage, while Bianca Bertolino added 14 kills and 13 digs.
The opening set saw the teams go back and forth early on with the match tied at 6-6. The Noles remained close throughout the set with Koenig and Clothier each providing four kills.
The second set followed a similar pattern with Georgia Tech pulling away after it was tied at 5-5. The Yellow Jackets would do the same in the final set.

Florida State Volleyball Gets 20th Win in NCAA First Round Victory.
LINCOLN, Neb. - The Florida State Volleyball team put together an efficient performance on both sides of the net in its NCAA First Round sweep over Kansas State on Friday evening at the Bob Devaney Sports Center in Lincoln, Neb.
The Seminoles (20-9) reached their 20th victory of the season by sweeping the Wildcats (15-13) in emphatic fashion (25-20, 25-16, 25-17), playing one of their best all-around matches of the season. FSU hit .340 in the match while holding Kansas State to just a .077 hitting percentage, covering every area of the floor in what was a strong defensive performance.
For a group with one of the youngest rosters in the country, Friday's win was a key step toward building momentum for the program.
"It's just getting the monkey off our back really to be able to go in, relax and play," FSU Head Coach Chris Poole said. "Before the match started, we talked about the fact that most of the women in the room had never been to an NCAA Tournament and never won a match in the NCAA Tournament, just because we're so young. It's just historical in that fashion that we need to be able to go in, relax and play.
"I felt like from the beginning we did that, and it doesn't really surprise me because I think that all year, they have raised their level of play up against the ACC, which was really good this year."
Junior middle blocker Emma Clothier could not be stopped, recording 11 kills and no attack errors while hitting .611 and adding four blocks. From the start, Clothier was a dominant force on the attack, hitting through Kansas State's block all night.
"I think our passing was very good tonight," Clothier said. "It starts with the pass, and then it goes to the setter, and Lily (Tessier) had a really amazing night. She was doing a great job just distributing everything and making for a balanced offense, and I think that really helped us hit efficiently."
Redshirt junior Lily Tessier is credited with running a solid offense, registering 30 assists along with six digs and five kills. Playing in a 5-1 formation that is different from what Poole has run most of his years at FSU, Tessier now has 995 assists this season and is close to becoming the first Seminole since 2008 to record 1,000 assists in a year.
Sophomore Sydney Conley was another tough out up front, picking up eight kills and hitting .571 along with two digs and a block. Freshman Audrey Koenig, one of eight Seminoles playing in their first NCAA Tournament, added six kills. Redshirt junior Morgan Chacon had five kills and 10 digs.
The Seminoles had a sideout percentage of nearly 76 percent, while the Wildcats sided out 54 percent of the time. FSU broke off several smaller runs in each set to eventually pull away, including a 4-0 run early in the third set that brought a 3-2 deficit to a 6-3 lead.
FSU also managed to hit around Kansas State's front row all match, as the Wildcats registered just one block - tied for the second lowest by an opponent this season.
"It was definitely a really wonderful experience playing in this gym," Tessier said. "We love having fans, and we had a really good fanbase today. We're looking forward to tomorrow and continuing this success."

Seminoles Close Out Season at Nebraska.
LINCOLN, Neb. - The Florida State Volleyball Team ended its impressive 2021 season with a 3-0 loss (20-25, 22-25, 17-25) at 10th-seeded Nebraska in front of nearly 8,000 fans at the Bob Devaney Sports Center on Saturday night.
Despite ending the season, the Seminoles (20-10) returned to the 20-win column for the first time since 2016 in a year where expectations were unknown due to having their youngest team in 22 years. Everyone on the 2021 roster experienced their first NCAA postseason win on Friday when it swept Kansas State in the first round.
"You know, you're always disappointed when you lose, but I'm not disappointed in the effort of this team -- not only in the match but in the season," FSU Head Coach Chris Poole said. "It's a very young team; it's the youngest I've had since 1994 and the fewest hitters I've had since 1994, and so for us to go through the season and accomplish the things we did, it was a miracle season."
Against a team with plenty more size in the Huskers (23-7), Florida State surrendered 9.5 team blocks although managed to record 6.0 team blocks themselves. The experience in a frenzied atmosphere was welcomed by the Seminoles, whom were led by freshman libero Emery Dupes' 20 digs and fellow freshman Audrey Koenig's nine kills.
Despite the sweep, FSU forced several long rallies, many which it won because of its exceptional passing despite Nebraska's tough service game.
"I thought they were a great serving team," Dupes said. "They're good at moving the ball around. It was just up to us at tracking the ball and reading to where it was going, so we were in the right spot every pass. I thought we did an excellent job with passing tonight. When we weren't there, we did a good job of bettering the ball so we could get it over and manage it. I thought Morgan (Chacon) did a good job on outside. Like she said, an outside's job is to manage the ball when we're in a tough situation, and I think every hitter did an excellent job at that."
The back row worked extra hard on Saturday night, with four players amassing double-digit digs including Dupes (20), redshirt junior Morgan Chacon (13), senior Caroline Golden (11) and junior Lauryn Burrows (11).
Florida State hit .122 in the match, while Nebraska hit .262. The Seminoles hung with the Huskers in each of the first two sets, and gave a valiant effort to maintain pace in the third and final frame when Nebraska hit .349.
"I think we were working hard to get passing, but obviously Nebraska is a really good serving team so we were trying to put the ball in the best place we could," Chacon said. "My job on the outside is to take swings when I'm not in the best position. I thought that our passers did a great job, but obviously I had to manage a lot of situations. I thought our setters and passers did a great job doing the best they could, but sometimes you have to trust you'll put the ball in and get another opportunity."
Junior Emma Clothier capped her All-ACC First Team season with six kills and three blocks. She finishes her third season with outstanding numbers once again, leading FSU in total kills (287), kills per set (2.66), hitting percentage (.328), service aces (32) and total points (373). She will return as one of the top players in the conference next season.
Redshirt junior setter Lily Tessier accomplished a milestone that an FSU setter hadn't reached since 2008, recording over 1,000 assists on the season. The Fort Myers, Fla., native ends the 2021 season with 1,019 assists and 10.09 assists per set, producing a strong year where she had to gain a rhythm with several new hitters.
"I'm really excited for the future of the program and glad we got the experience we did this year, and I'm really proud of our players," Poole said.
