Seminoles' Westrup Earns All-ACC Honors In Women's Golf For Third Time.
Junior honored in first three years of Florida State career.
TALLAHASSEE, FL - Florida State junior Caroline Westrup, the nation's No. 12 ranked player according to GolfStat, was named to the All-Atlantic Coast Conference women's golf team in a vote by the
league's nine head coaches. It marks Westrup's third consecutive selection to the all-conference team for the Seminole junior who is among the favorites to earn All-America First-Team honors for the
third straight season. Westrup is the only the second player in Florida State women's golf history to earn All-ACC honors three times in her career and the first in school history to earn the honor as
both a freshman, a sophomore and a junior. Only Kristin Tamulis (2001, 2002 and 2003) has earned All-ACC honors three times as Seminole.
Westrup will lead the No. 26 ranked Seminoles into the 2008 NCAA Central Regional Championship at the University of Texas Golf Course in Austin, Texas, beginning Thursday. The event runs May 8-10 with
the top eight teams and the top two individuals not on those eight teams advancing to the NCAA Championship finals at the University of New Mexico, May 20-23.
"I am honored to be named to the All-ACC women's golf team for the third consecutive year," said Westrup. With one season remaining in my career I am three-quarters of the way to reaching one of the
goals I set for myself when I arrived as I freshman - I wanted to be All-ACC in each of my four years at Florida State. Another one of my goals begins again this week as I work together with my
teammates to get the Seminoles back the championship finals where we can play to win a national championship. The main goal I set when I was a freshman was for Florida State to win an NCAA
Championship during my career."
Westrup is ranked 12th nationally in the GolfStat Cup rankings and 17th nationally in the GolfWeek/Sagarin Performance Rankings. She is the second highest ranked ACC player in both rankings. Westrup
won the individual championship at the LSU/Cleveland Golf Classic and finished as the runner-up at the ACC Championship with a three-under par score of 213. She is finished under par in three of her
six spring tournaments and has cut more than one stroke off of her fall stroke average (74.00) in the spring season (72.83). Westrup is the Seminoles' leading golfer in eight of nine events in fall
2007 and spring 2008 and tied her career low for a single round with a 66 in the third round of the spring 2008 UCF Challenge.
"For Caroline to earn All-ACC honors in her first three years is a tremendous accomplishment for any golfer," said Head Coach Debbie Dillman. "We are very proud of her because she is a fantastic
representative for our program. I am most proud of the fact that she would forgo her individual accomplishments and turn them in to team accomplishments in a heartbeat. She has so much more of a team
player than an individual and that is why she is so well liked by her teammates."
Junior is first three-time All-American in school history.
ALBUQUERQUE, NM - Florida State University junior golfer Caroline Westrup earned All-America Second-Team Honors as announced by the National Golf Coaches' Association at its annual banquet following
the final round of the NCAA Division I Women's Golf Tournament. It marks the third consecutive season Westrup has earned All-America honors making her the first three-time All-American in Seminole
women's golf history. She earned All-America First-Team Honors in both 2006 and 2007 and All-America Second-Team honors this season.
In addition to earning All-America honors for the third consecutive season, Westrup was also named to the All-ACC team earlier this season. She is the only player in school history to be a three-time
All-America and a three-time All-ACC honoree.
"I am very honored to be named an All-American for the third time in my career," said Westrup. "To be the first three-time All-American in school history is something that I am very proud of knowing
the tremendous history of this program and the great players who have played their collegiate careers at Florida State. To be the first three-time All-American at Florida State is very humbling
because of the success of this program, the great success of the players who have played at Florida State and the success those players have earned during their professional careers."
Westrup, who finished in a tie for 13th place in the recently completed NCAA Championship finals, averaged 73.12 strokes in 34 rounds during 11 tournaments as a junior. Westrup is ranked 13th
nationally in the final GolfStat Cup rankings and 17th nationally in the final GolfWeek/Sagarin Performance Rankings of the 2007-08 season. She finished her junior season as the second highest ranked
ACC player in both rankings.
Westrup won the individual championship at the LSU/Cleveland Golf Classic as she led Florida State to the team title in the event in March. She finished as the runner-up at the ACC Championship with a
three-under par score of 213 and was under par in three of her seven spring tournaments. She enjoyed a strong spring season as she cut more than one stroke off of her fall stroke average (74.00) in
the spring season (72.97). Westrup led Florida Sate with 12 rounds at par or better and 18 of 25 rounds at 75 or better this spring. She finished as the Seminoles' leading golfer in nine of 10 events
in fall 2007 and spring 2008 and tied her career low for a single round with a 66 in the third round of the UCF Challenge.
"I would like to thank my coaches - Coach (Debbie) Dillman and Coach (Katie) Quinney - and my teammates for their support during the first three years of my career at Florida State. My coaches are
great and I love my teammates. My main goal for next season is play at nationals with my teammates and that's a goal that we all have to start working on to reach this summer and as soon as we get
back to campus in the fall."

Seminoles finish in a tie for eighth place at NCAA Central Regional Championship.
AUSTIN, TX - The Florida State University women's golf team was defeated by LSU in a one-hole playoff and did not advance to the NCAA Championship finals as play in the NCAA Central Regional Championship at the University of Texas Golf Course came to a close. The Seminoles and the Tigers finished tied for eighth in the team standings and were forced to wait nearly four hours until the round was completed before beginning the sudden-victory playoff which was won by the Tigers. With all five players teeing off of hole No. 1, the Tigers earned one birdie and four pars while the Seminoles earned five pars. The winning shot - a chip in birdie - was holed by LSU's Alexis Rather.
Florida State moved into a tie for eighth place with its best single-round team total of the event - a 297. The Seminoles were led by Caroline Westrup (even par 72) and seniors Whitney Wright (one-over par 73) and Whitney Brummett (four-over par 76). The Seminoles began the third round three stroke above the cut and closed the after tied with LSU.
"We didn't beat ourselves and it took a great golf shot to beat us," said Seminole Head Coach Debbie Dillman. "It's upsetting for me and our team that our two seniors - Whitney (Brummett) and Whitney (Wright) - had to end their careers on a playoff. But my hat is off to all of our players; they all did what they had to do to get us in the position to play in a playoff. We played a nice round of golf today, made a lot of the shots we had to make and then performed extremely well under pressure in the playoff. We put our shots where we wanted to and played the playoff hole well. They (LSU) just played one shot better. Congratulations to their players and coaching staff and our team hopes they do well at nationals."
Westrup will make her third consecutive NCAA Championships appearance and her second consecutive as an individual. She finished in a tie for fifth place in the individual standings and tied with Lauren Doughtie of NC State as the two highest finishing individuals not on a qualifying team and both advanced to the national championship finals as individuals. Westrup finished in a tie for 11th place at the 2007 NCAA finals and in a tie for 29th in the 2006 NCAA finals.
"I'm very sad that I am not going to nationals with all of my teammates," said Westrup. "It was one of my dreams to go with all of my friends to the finals. It was the last time I could have gone with two seniors (Brummett and Wright) and that would have been very special for all of us. I am going to the nationals intent on winning a national championship for all of us and for Florida State University."
Westrup (Ahus, Sweden) led the Seminoles over the final day of the regional with an even par score of 72 and a three-day total of 215.
