Men's Basketball Falls To Stetson, 83-74.

by Taylor Caradonna

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - Luke Brown scored 27 points on seven made 3-point shots to lead Stetson to an 83-74 win over Florida State at the Donald L. Tucker Center in the season opener for both teams. Brown totaled 20 points in the first half as the visiting Hatters led by 18 before halftime and held a 44-37 lead at the intermission. The Seminoles fought valiantly, and trailed by only three with 4:40 remaining, but Stetson outscored Florida State 15-9 to close the game.

Sophomore Matthew Cleveland led three Seminoles in double figures with 16 points. Junior Cam'Ron Fletcher led Florida State with nine rebounds.

The Seminoles mounted an impressive comeback after trailing by 18 in the first half. After a 3-point shot Cyncier Harrison put Stetson up by a 34-16 margin with 7:13 remaining before intermission, the Seminoles went on a 21-10 run to close the half to pull within 44-27 at halftime.

Freshman guard Tom House led the Seminoles with nine points and four rebounds in the first half. House enjoyed a perfect half in his Seminole debut, shooting two for two from the paint, three for three from the 3-point line, and three for three on free throws.

Freshman forward Cameron Corhen began his collegiate career as he scored 10 points in 20 minutes of playing time. He made four of his five field goal attempts in his debut.

"We had some moments where I thought we showed some light," said Head Coach Leonard Hamilton. "I think it was the fact that you don't ever want to say inexperienced, but this is probably the most inexperienced team we've had. Defensively on rebounds, I thought we had a lot of game slippage. Offensively, we aren't that well-oiled machine that I had hoped we would be this early in the season."

Caleb Mills enjoyed a strong start his junior season as he scored 12 points and pulled down three rebounds. He shot five for 11 from the floor and made two of four free throws.

"I didn't see anything that was not fixable," said Hamilton. "Hopefully, we will learn that every team that we play will be giving it their very best. This will be an adjustment for a lot of our players. Our players are standing on the shoulders of guys who have established some solid play, a legacy, a system of executing, offensively and defensively, they can grow into and learn to appreciate."

Hamilton remained hopeful in his final words to the press: "You've got to be hopeful that the lack of things that we did not execute tonight, that we will learn this from and be much better prepared when we go down to Central Florida on Friday night."

Men's Basketball Falls to UCF, 68-54.

by Taylor Caradonna

ORLANDO, Fla. - Jayhlon Young scored 17 points to lead three UCF players in double figures, and the Knights defeated Florida State, 68-54, at the Addition Financial Arena. Young, Taylor Hendricks (15 points) and Ithiel Horton (14 points) were all in double figure scoring as UCF won its first game of the season.

Florida State guard Darin Green Jr., who played the first three seasons on his career at UCF, scored a team-high 17 points against his former team. Green made seven of 14 field goal attempts, including a game-high three 3-point shots in his second game as a Seminole.

Freshman Camron Corhen scored a career-high 12 points for the Seminoles and Cam'ron Fletcher led the team for the second game in a row with six rebounds, along with scoring 11 points of his own.

Young and Hendricks combined for a 32 point total against the Seminoles, with Young scoring 15 of those points in the first half alone. Hendricks contributed 12 rebounds for the Knights, along with a six for 13 (.461) shooting percentage from the field.

Although the Knights led 29-39 at halftime, the Seminoles had an impressive .460 (12-26) shooting percentage from the field, compared to UCF's .380 (13-34). Free throws accounted for a major part of UCF's win against the Seminoles, shooting .800 (8-10) from the free throw line, accompanied by a .450 (5-11) three-point field goal percentage.

Corhen led the Seminoles in points in the second half, shooting three for four (.750) in the paint and two for three (.667) from beyond the arc. Sophomore guard Jalen Warley contributed to Florida State with four assists and Darin Green, Jr. added his own seven points (3-4 FG, 1-2 3FG) to the halftime score.

The Seminoles struggled to score with only three-minutes remaining in the game. While Florida State made only one of their last nine field goals to end Friday night's game, UCF managed to make four of their last five.

Men's Basketball Falls to Troy, 79-72.

by Taylor Caradonna

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - Aamer Muhammad scored 23 points to lead three Troy players in double figures as the Trojans defeated the Seminoles, 79-72, at the Donald L. Tucker Center. Christyon Eugene scored 22 points and Zay Williams contributed 12 points of his own to the Trojans third victory of the season. Kieffer Punter added 10 points and nine rebounds to the mix as well.

Three Seminoles scored in double figures as Florida State fought to capture a win against Troy University. Junior Cam'Ron Fletcher had an impressive double-double for the night, dropping 15 points and pulling down 10 rebounds. Fletcher shot six for 10 (.600) from the field and two for five (.400) from the three-point line. This is his third game in a row that he led the Seminoles in rebounds.

Darin Green, Jr. climbed even closer to his 1,000 career point mark, scoring a game-high 24 points and shooting seven for 11 (.636) from the field. For three-pointers, Green shot .778 (seven for nine) which pushed him to 998 total points in his career.

Although the Seminoles were in a seven point deficit at halftime, with Troy leading the game 32-25, Florida State led the Trojans in every category. Florida State had a .370 (seven-19) shooting percentage in the paint, compared to Troy's .360 (13-36). From beyond the arc, the Seminoles shot three for eight (.380) while their opponent shot six for 20 (.300).

"We got a lot of room for improvement, but I think our attitude is good," said Head Coach Leonard Hamilton. "We still believe in ourselves, believe in the system. Hopefully we will get some relief in there before too long, so we aren't playing guys 35, 36 minutes. As I said last week, we try to keep our guys fresh in relation to how we would play, obviously it is a questionable challenge in practicing a certain way, and then once you get through the season, you have to extend the minutes of guys who are still trying to get experience."

Florida State's improvement came from a great night of free throw shooting. As a team, the first half comprised of a .730 (eight for 11) shooting percentage, followed by a 10 for 16 (.625) in the second half. Caleb Mills had a perfect night for the Seminoles in free throws, dropping six for six from the line, accompanied by 14 points and 4 assists.

"I'm glad to see that Darin got his confidence back, shoot what he is capable of. Matthew Cleveland, we have to find a way as a team to execute and give him that opportunity, which gives him the chance to be his best self."

The Seminoles fought hard in the second half, with Florida State enjoying two 7-0 runs against the Trojans over two-minute intervals. The Trojans ultimately made three of their last three field goals to secure the victory over Florida State. Green. made his own individual point total mount against his opponent, scoring eight of his 24 points in the last 27 seconds of the game.

Men's Basketball Falls to Florida, 76-67.

by Taylor Caradonna

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - Colin Castleton led two Gators in double figures with 25 points and nine rebounds as Florida defeated the Seminoles, 76-67, at the Donald L. Tucker Center. Will Richard scored 13 points for the Gators and Trey Bonham added 11 points and 3 assists of his own as Florida achieved their third win of the season to improve their record to 3-1.

Three Seminoles scored in double figures against Florida, with Junior Caleb Mills scoring a season high 21 points and five rebounds. Mills neared his career highs for field goals made and attempted with eight field goals made out of eighteen attempted (.444) for the night. He shot a perfect four for four from the free throw line, and was the highest scoring Seminole in the second half with 12 points.

Darin Green Jr. reached the coveted 1,000 career point mark after being the first Seminole to score in the game against Florida. Green went into the game with 998 points and quickly made route to the milestone statistic. Green scored 14 points and 2 rebounds in the rivalry game.

Matthew Cleveland played well as he scored 14 points and pulled down seven rebounds. Cleveland scored more points in Friday night's game against Florida than in his last two games combined (UCF - five points, Troy - three points). Cleveland was five of 12 (.417) from the field and shot a perfect four of four from the free throw line.

Florida State dominated the entire first half against the Gators, taking a 19-point lead with less than a minute left until the intermission.

The Seminoles were 10 for 11 (.909) from the free throw line and 15 for 31 (48.4) from the paint in the first half. Cam'Ron Fletcher led the Seminoles at halftime with six rebounds and Green Jr. put up 12 points of his own to help the Seminoles lead the Gators at the intermission, 43-26. Green shot 2-2 from beyond the arc, with both three-pointers being made in the last three minutes of the half.

"I thought that we've always been able to fight pressure, and tonight I thought we gave into it," said Hamilton. "Deflections, steals, they had stolen the ball from us about four times and I think they scored on all four of them. That's their aggressiveness and our inability to handle the pressure."

Florida gained control early in the second half, outscoring the Seminoles 19-2 over a five-minute period. The Gators had a .806 shooting percentage from the free throw line, shooting 21 of their 13 free throws in the second half alone. Florida shot 16 for 31 (.516) from the field and two for five (.400) from beyond the arc after the intermission. The Gators scored 23 points off of Florida State's 16 turnovers.

"You have to give credit to Florida for just going out and doing what they had to do in the second half, putting themselves in a position to win," said Hamilton. "It's not easy going on the road, being down 17 at the half, and trying to figure out a way to win. Got to give them credit for their focus, their consistency throughout the game. We have tremendous respect for Florida's program. We've given it our best shot, we had an upper hand the last couple of years, and rivalries don't like that. We just have to adjust how we are going to perform with new additions and some guys we got back healthy and their confidence."

Men's Basketball Defeats Mercer, 81-72.

by Taylor Caradonna

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - Cam'Ron Fletcher scored a career-high 23 points as the Seminoles gained their first victory of the season against Mercer University at the Donald L. Tucker Center. Matthew Cleveland added 18 points and Naheem McLeod pulled down a career-high nine rebounds and two assists to help Florida State defeat the Bears, 81-72.

Although the Bears came out strong in the starting minutes of the game, Florida State quickly went on a 15-3 scoring run over a seven-minute period. Led by Caleb Mills, with a 3-pointer in the last remaining minutes of the first half, two other Seminoles, Darin Green Jr. and Cam'Ron Fletcher, followed suit and each made one of their own three-pointers to increase Florida State's biggest lead of the game to 42-26.

In the first half, Florida State shot 15 for 38 (.395) from the field and six for 12 (.500) from the 3-point line. Fletcher shot a perfect three for three from beyond the arc, as well as leading the Seminoles in field goals made and field goals attempted, shooting six for eight (.750) in the paint.

It was a career-high night for Fletcher. His three 3-point field goals marked a career high for the junior guard, beating his original statistic of two three-pointers against six different teams. Fletcher's nine made field goals for the night also became a career-high, as he surpassed his seven field goals made against North Carolina in February.

Along with McLeod's career high nine rebounds and two assists, the sophomore center shot four for six (.667) from the field and added eight points to the final score. Mills totaled 12 points and Jalen Warley eight point, as both helped lead the Seminoles to their first victory of the season.

"Obviously, Naheem gave us a big lift," said Hamilton, "his energy, blocked five shots, his presence in the lane made a huge difference. I thought the players themselves made some adjustments throughout the game. They were talking more, their ideas, what they wanted to do, they suggested it."

From the free throw line, Cameron Corhen and Matthew Cleveland shot two-for-two in the first half. Mills shot five for six (.833) in free throws, clutching four-for-four of those free throws in the last minute of the game. As a team, the Seminoles finished with a .720 (18-25) free throw shooting percentage compared to Mercer's .667 mark (10-15).

"I thought that tonight, our guys played with a little more energy and consistency," said Hamilton, "I felt like I was trying to figure out what to do with our team, it was like starting all over again. Trying to work with guys who haven't played very much, aren't too experienced. I had to say I was pleasantly surprised that they were able to come in and make those contributions."

Florida State upped their game from the field in the second half, earning a .571 (12-21) shooting percentage, as Mercer struggled in both halves shooting 12 for 34 (.353) in the first half and 14 for 32 (.438) in the second. Matthew Cleveland took command after the intermission, shooting five for six (.833) from the field, one-for-one from beyond the arc, and three-for-four (.750) from the free throw line.

"We realized that we are closer to where we want to be," said Hamilton, "our guys understand that we need each other. We need to learn how to play to each other. I was glad to see us create shots for each other. They created opportunities for each other. Overall, I think we showed we have some capabilities, but we are still a long way from being as good as I think we can be."

Men's Basketball Defeats Louisville, 75-53, In Second ACC Game of Season.

by Taylor Caradonna

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - Caleb Mills scored a game-high 16 points on six made field goals to lead the Seminoles in a 75-53 victory over the Louisville Cardinals at the Donald L. Tucker Center. Matthew Cleveland pulled down eight rebounds and Naheem McLeod added a career-high six blocks as the Seminoles secured their first ACC win of the season.

It was a career-high night for multiple Seminoles. McLeod blocked a career-high six shots, tied for sixth most in school history and ACC play. Cam Corhen scored a career-high 15 points one four made field goals and six made free throws.

"Naheem blocking six shots is not something that we have not gotten consistently," said Head Coach Leonard Hamilton. "The interesting thing is he didn't grow any taller, he didn't get stronger or more athletic, but his mindset was at a level that he was consistent with his effort. I thought that that shows that he's trying to give those things that he's capable of giving, which was a factor in this game when you have a guy that's blocking six shots, it creates a lot of indecision with your opponent."

Florida State's lead never wavered against Louisville. The Seminoles opened the game with a 5-0 lead, progressively widening the gap with a 13-3 scoring run that led Florida State to their largest lead of the first half (34-18).

Florida State had a .424 (14-33) shooting percentage from the field in the first half and shot four for 10 (.400) to enter the intermission with a 36-24 lead over the Cardinals, which marked their second straight halftime lead (Virginia, 22-21).

Corhen had a perfect night from the free-throw line, shooting six for six. Over the last three games, Florida State is shooting 85 percent (33 of 39) from the free throw line.

"Cam Corhen, I thought, gave us that consistency," said Hamilton. "I was a more comfortable rotating some of our more inexperienced players in; I thought they executed very well."

The Seminoles held a 24-point lead over Louisville in the second half, their biggest lead in any game of the season. Florida State scored 17 points off of Louisville's 16 turnovers and scored 15 fast break points. They scored 36 points in the paint and 26 points off the bench.

"I thought we made some progress this afternoon," said Hamilton. "Our effort was good for 40 minutes. We didn't always play as well as I think we are capable of, but our effort, our focus, our defensive effort, get deflections, steals – I thought was at our best level."

Coach Hamilton closed his press conference with a positive remark, "We are still trying to find ourselves but I was pleased that we were able to get a home victory."

Men's Basketball Falls to St. John's, 93-79, In Orange Bowl Classic.

by Taylor Caradonna

SUNRISE, Fla. - Joel Soriano scored a team-high 23 points and pulled down 12 rebounds on six made field goals and 11 made free throws to lead St. John's to a 93-79 victory over Florida State in the Orange Bowl Classic at the FLA Live Arena. Soriano led four Red Storm players in double figure scoring — Dylan Addae-Wusu (20 points), David Jones (16 points), and Andre Curbelo (14 points) as St. John's won its eleventh game of the season. The Red Storm now hold an 11-1 record.

Junior Darin Green led Florida State with a career-high 30 points on a career-high and Orange Bowl Classic record eight made 3-point field goals. He became the first Seminole to score 30 points in a game since Terance Mann totaled 30 against Georgia Tech on January 24, 2018. His 8 3-point field goals are tied for the third most made in a single game by a Seminole. The last Seminole to make eight 3-point field goals in a game was Deividas Dulkys against North Carolina on January 14, 2012. The school record for 3-point field goals made in a single game is 10 by George McCloud against La Salle on February 23, 1989.

Sophomore Matthew Cleveland scored his career-high of 23 points and totaled his career-high of 13 rebounds for his second consecutive, third double double of the season and fifth double double of his career. Cleveland totaled a career-high 12 defensive rebounds as he scored in double figures for the sixth consecutive games.

Also in double figure scoring for the Seminoles was junior Caleb Mills who totaled 11 points and a career-high eight assists.

For St. John's, Soriano was named the MVP of the game as he totaled his 10th double double of the year. Addae-Wusu matched his career-high with 20 points.

The Seminoles and the Red Storm battled through most of the first half. A driving lay-up by Jaylen Warley tied the game at 18-18 with 12:31 remaining before halftime as neither team led by more than five points up until that juncture.

St. John's went on a 7-0 run, a run punctuated by a 3-point shot by AJ Storr to give the Red Storm a 28-20 advantage.

St. John's opened the second half on a 13-4 run, and led for the remainder of the game.

Florida State battled and cut its deficit to six with five minutes to play. Green Jr. led Florida State's late surge has he hit four 3-point shots and scored 21 second half points. He was a perfect five of five from the 3-point line in the second half.

Cleveland hit a jumper to get Florida State within 78-72 with 5:06 remaining.

Following Cleveland's jumper, St. John's closed the game on a 15-7 run to gain the victory.

Men's Basketball Defeats Notre Dame, 73-72, In Third ACC Game Of Season.

by Alexander Fisher

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - Matthew Cleveland scored a team-high 19 points on six made field goals and four free throws, and grabbed 12 rebounds to lead Florida State to a 73-72 victory over Notre Dame in the Donald L Tucker Center. The win upped the Seminoles record in conference play to 2-1. Cleveland led three Seminoles in double figure scoring - Caleb Mills (18 points) and Cam Corhen (18 points) - as Florida State won for the third time in four games.

Freshman Cam Corhen eclipsed his career high as he scored on a jumper with 11:39 remaining in the second half to give him 16 points. Corhen finished the game with 18 points while also adding seven rebounds.

Cleveland totaled his 19 points on six of 10 shooting from the field, 12 rebounds. Cleveland is the first Seminole since Corey Louis in 1995 to have three-straight double-doubles. This was Cleveland's fourth double-double of the season and sixth of this career. Cleveland scored in double figures for the seventh straight game.

Caleb Mills scored 18 points on six of 13 shooting from the field, with four free throws. Mill's perfect night from the charity stripe (four for four) further improved his Florida State record free throw percentage.

For the Irish, JJ Starling led the team with a team-high 20 points. Trey Wertz, Cormac Ryan and Nate Laszewski all finished in double figures with 10, 17 and 12 points.

The first half between the Irish and Seminole began with an early 8-0 run by the Seminole fueled by 3-point shots by Mills and Cleveland, to put Florida State ahead 10-3. A layup by Laszewski tied the game for the Irish at 14 with 13:32 remaining in the first half. Notre Dame took a 31-20 lead, but Florida State fought back after a Mills three-pointer and a Corhen dunk cut the lead to one.

The half ended with the Seminoles trailing 39-38, with two Seminoles already in double scoring figures. Mills and Corhen contributed 14 points and 10 points for Florida State.

Both Mills and Corhen have scored double-digit points in four straight games. This was Corhen's fifth game scoring in double figures on the season.

Cleveland scored nine points on four of six shooting from the field in the first half. Cleveland's seven first half rebounds marked the tenth time in fourteen games this season that he has eclipsed six rebounds in a game.

The second half featured numerous lead changes, with no team leading by more than two points before back-to-back triples by Cleveland gave the Seminoles a 51-46 lead with 15:51 left.

A late Notre Dame rally and a Starling layup closed the Seminoles' lead to one point with 6.5 seconds remaining.

A steal by Darin Green Jr sealed the win for the Seminoles.

Men's Basketball Falls to Duke, 86-67.

by Taylor Caradonna

DURHAM, N.C. - Duke's Ryan Young earned game-highs of 20 points and 12 rebounds as No. 17 Duke earned their 11th victory of the season in an 86-67 win over the Seminoles at Cameron Indoor Stadium. Young led three Blue Devils in double figure scoring, Jaylen Blakes (17 points) and Dariq Whitehead (16 points) to improve Duke's ACC record to 2-1. Florida State is now 2-2 in ACC play.

Florida State started off strong against the Blue Devils, leading their opponent in the opening minutes of the game. Duke gained momentum in the middle of the first half with a 10-0 scoring run over three minutes and maintained that precision as they ended the half making five of their last six field goals to lead 42-25.

Caleb Mills and Darin Green Jr. led the Seminoles with nine points each in the first half, alongside Matthew Cleveland, who continued his rebounding efforts with a team-high four rebounds.

Florida State shot nine for 25 (.360) from the field and three for 10 (.300) from beyond the arc in the first half. The Seminoles turned their game around following the intermission, marking their biggest scoring run of the game with a 6-0 run over two minutes, holding Duke to their longest scoring drought of the game of nearly three minutes.

In the second half, Florida State fought to close the gap and, at one point, outscoring the Blue Devils 26-22 with nine minutes left in the game. In the closing minutes, Duke went on a 14-1 scoring run over nearly five minutes, resulting in their biggest lead of the game of 25 points, 81-56.

Compared to the first half score (25-42), the Seminoles scored 42 points to their opponents' 44 in the second half. Florida State shot .500 (12-24) from the field and .850 (17-20) from the free throw line after intermission, a drastic difference from their first half performance.

Mills continues to be Florida State's all-time leading free throw shooter, shooting seven for nine (.778) from the charity stripe, totaling a .823 shooting percentage (51-62) for the season thus far.

Green Jr. reached a milestone of 250 career 3-point field goals made, hitting the impressive career mark with two made three-pointers against Duke.

Cleveland's 18 point and 10 rebound addition to the New Year's Eve game marked his eighth consecutive game in double figure scoring and fourth consecutive double-double scoring for the Julius Erving Award nominee. He is the first Seminole with four consecutive double efforts since Douglas Edwards during the 1992-93 season.

Cleveland was a perfect 10 of 10 from the free throw line. His 10 free throws made is tied for the 15th most in school history in an ACC game, while his 10 of 10 perfection made him just the fifth player in school history to be perfect on at least 10 free throws in an ACC game. The last player to make at least 10 of 10 free throws in an ACC for the Seminoles was RaiQuan Gray against Wake Forest on February 13, 2021.

Men's Basketball Defeats Georgia Tech, 75-64, To Gain Third ACC Win of Season.

by Taylor Caradonna

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - Matthew Cleveland earned his fifth consecutive double double of the season with 21 points and 12 rebounds to lead Florida State to its third ACC win of the season with a 75-64 win over Georgia Tech at the Donald L. Tucker Center. Cleveland led three Seminoles in double figure scoring with Darin Green Jr. (18 points) and Caleb Mills (13 points) with all three scoring 13 points or more.

Saturday's victory against Georgia Tech marked Head Coach Leonard Hamilton's 600th career win, and 400th at Florida State. He is the active wins leader in the ACC, and only the fifth coach to win at least 400 games as an ACC head coach.

Cleveland is the first player in school history to earn five consecutive double doubles since Douglas Edwards during the 1991-92 season. He is one of three players in the Atlantic Coast Conference who is averaging a double double in ACC games.

Lance Terry scored a team-high 17 points and Miles Kelly added 16, but Georgia Tech surrendered runs of 11-0 late in the first half and 10-0 early in the second half.

Although the Yellow Jackets started off the first half with their largest lead of the game (16-7 at the 15:43 of the first half), Florida State gained momentum and closed the gap quickly. Naheem McLeod went three for three from the field, along with a three-pointer from Caleb Mills to take the lead at 36-34 with a minute remaining.

After trailing by nine (16-7) with just under five minutes played in the first half, the Seminoles led 39-36 at the intermission.

Cleveland scored 15 points in the first half, the most in a first half this season for the sophomore, shooting six for eight (.750) from the field and adding a 3-pointer and two made free throws to lead the Seminoles in scoring. His single three-pointer came in the final seconds of the first half, giving Florida State a 39-36 lead, as the Seminoles ended the half with an 11-2 scoring run.

The Seminoles further improved their game in the second half, taking advantage of Georgia Tech's four turnovers in the early minutes of the half, resulting in a 14-2 scoring run for Florida State over nearly five minutes.

Florida State is now 3-3 in ACC play.

Matthew Cleveland scored 19 points and 12 rebounds to earn his sixth consecutive double double, a Seminole milestone that was last achieved by Greg Grady during the 1974-75 season. Men's Basketball Defeats Notre Dame, 84-71.

by Taylor Caradonna

NOTRE DAME, Ind. - Darin Green Jr. scored a game-high 20 points on six made field goals, four 3-pointers, and four free throws to lead Florida State to an 84-71 victory over Notre Dame at the Joyce Center. Green Jr. led five Seminoles in double figure scoring, Green, Jalen Warley (17 points), Matthew Cleveland (14 points), Caleb Mills (11 points), and Cameron Corhen (10 points) to improve Florida State's ACC record to 4-4.

Matthew Cleveland secured his eighth consecutive double double against Notre Dame with 14 points and a career-high 16 rebounds. The last Seminole to reach the prestigious milestone was Reggie Royals who finished the 1970-71 season with nine consecutive double doubles. Cleveland will have the chance to join Royals in Saturday's game at Pittsburgh.

Cleveland's 16 rebounds are tied for the second most in an ACC game by a Seminole - tied with Al Thornton against Virginia on February 7, 2007. The school record for rebounds by a Seminole in an ACC game is 17 by Michael Joiner against Wake Forest on January 9, 2001. Cleveland's 16 defensive rebounds established a school record by a Florida State player in an ACC game.

Warley scored his a career-high totaling 17 points on four made field goals and eight free throws. He surpassed his former career-high of 15 points against Duke in February of 2022, and made the most free throws of his career, shooting eight for 10 (.800) from the free throw line.

Mills shot a perfect five for five from the free throw line against the Fighting Irish, marking his 22nd straight free throw in ACC play. As a Seminole, he has made 66 of 77 (.857) attempted free throws in conference play. Mills' 11 points was his ninth consecutive game scoring in double figures.

Corhen continued to be a sharpshooter from the free throw line, shooting two for two to increase his free throw shooting percentage to .917 (11-12) in the last six games. Corhens' 10 points marked his seventh game scoring in double figures.

Due to the outstanding success by the Seminoles at the charity stripe, Florida State has now shot 78 percent or better eight times this season from the line. Against Notre Dame, the Seminoles had a .793 (23-29) shooting percentage.

Florida State shutout Notre Dame in the opening minutes of the first half, with scoring drives from Mills, Cleveland, Corhen, and Green Jr. to give the Seminoles a 13-0 lead four minutes into the half.

This momentum proved to be important as the Seminoles led by 24 points midway through the first half (32-8). The Seminoles led 39-29 lead heading into intermission.

Compared to the Seminole's first half shooting percentage from the field (.452, 14-31), the second half produced an efficient .591 (13-22) shooting percentage from Warley's four made field goals and Cleveland's three.

The real turnaround for the Seminoles was from the free throw line, shooting 16-21 (.762) in the second half compared to an equally impressive but smaller shooting percentage, .875 (7-8) in the first half.

The Seminoles scored 28 points in the paint and 12 points off the bench. Florida State optimized off their opponent's turnovers, scoring 10 points off of Notre Dame's four turnovers.

Men's Basketball Defeats Pittsburgh, 71-64.

by Alex Fisher

PITTSBURGH, Pa. - Darin Green Jr. scored a game-high 24 points on seven made field goals, five three pointers and five free throws to lead Florida State to a 71-64 victory over Pittsburgh at the Peterson Events Center. Green Jr led three Seminoles in double figure scoring; Green, Matthew Cleveland (11 points), and Caleb Mills (11 points) to improve the Seminoles' ACC record to 5-4.

Green Jr. scored 24 points on 7-12 shooting from the field and shot 5-8 from the bonusphere. He was perfect from the free-throw line, making all five of his free-throw attempts. Green's success at the charity stripe helped propel the Seminoles to shooting over 73% from the line in today's game.

Cleveland scored 11 points on 4-7 shooting from the field, but fell two rebounds short of securing his ninth consecutive double-double and matching Reggie Royal's streak during the 1970-71 season. Cleveland finished the game with 11 points and collected eight rebounds - all on the defensive end of the court.

Both Mills and Cleveland finished the game with 11 points and four made field goals apiece. Mills' 11 points marked his tenth consecutive game scoring in double figures.

Greg Elliot's early seven points on two-of-two 3-point field goals, helped Pitt jump out to an early 15-5 lead before a 17-2 run by the Seminoles fueled by Mills scoring eight points, and Green Jr scoring five to put the Seminoles ahead 22-17.

The Seminoles hot shooting started the first half by shooting six-of-seven (.857 percent) from the bonusphere, allowing them to build a lead that grew to as many as 12 points (39-27). A pair of Pitt free throws cut the lead to ten points, before the half ended (39-29).

Cleveland led Florida State with nine points in the first half, shooting three-of-five from the field and two-of-two from three-point range. The pair of Mills and Green Jr. both contributed eight points in the first half, and each scored two three-point field goals.

Freshman Baba Miller and Chandler Jackson both eclipsed his career-high in points against Pittsburgh. Men's Basketball Falls to No. 24 Clemson, 82-81.

by Taylor Caradonna

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - Clemson's Chase Hunter scored the final three points of the game on an old-fashioned three-point play with 4.5 seconds remaining to give the visiting Tigers an 82-81 win over Florida State at the Donald L. Tucker Center. Hunter made a driving layup to tie the game, then won the game with the ensuing free throw to give Clemson its 17th victory of the season. The Seminoles were unable to get a shot off before the clock expired, and Clemson took its 10th ACC win of the season.

In a game that saw eight lead changes and four ties, Florida State took the lead on a 3-point by Calen Mills with 2:18 remaining to be played. The Seminoles maintained their lead, and led 81-79 with 8.5 seconds remaining. Clemson then inbounded the ball, and Hunter drove to the basket, scored and was fouled to tie the game and set up the game-winning free throw.

Clemson's Hunter Tyson scored a game-high 27 points on ten made field goals to lead the No. 24 Tigers to the win. Tyson led three Tigers in double-figure scoring, with Hunter (26 points) and PJ Hall (17 points) also in double figures.

Clemson leads the Atlantic Coast Conference with an 18-4 season record.

Darin Green Jr. started his 80th consecutive game against Clemson. In Saturday's game, he made four three pointers for a total of 66 3-point shots made this season, which moved the junior guard into sole possession of 15th place for the highest single-season total in school history.

Caleb Mills made his 100th career 3-point field goal, surpassing the milestone after shooting four for seven (.571) from beyond the arc, bringing his total to 103 total career three-pointers.. This result of Mills' impressive 3-point shooting over his last 11 games has allowed him to make 19 three-pointers. Mills' 15 points on Saturday advanced his double-figure scoring streak to 12 games.

Cameron Corhen earned a career-high with two steals against Clemson, surpassing his original one steal career-high in five different games (Miami, Pitt, St. John's, USC Upstate, and Stanford).

Matthew Cleveland scored in double figures with 18 points on six made field goals and three for three free throws for his 15th consecutive game this season.

A turn of events for Florida State didn't come without a hard fight late in the first half. After Clemson began the game with a 16-2 scoring run, the Seminoles quickly scrambled to come within three points of the Tigers in the middle of the half after two consecutive three pointers from Caleb Mills and Darin Green Jr., only 24 seconds apart from one another.

The last scoring run Clemson earned was a 9-3 point spread, giving the Tigers their final first half lead over Florida State, 30-21. From there, the Seminoles used the remaining six minutes of the half to go on a 13-3 scoring run, leading Clemson into intermission, 34-33.

Florida State finished with a .375 shooting percentage (12-32) from the field, out-scoring their opponent who only made 11 field goals for the half. Both teams had six made three-pointers, with Florida State shooting .375 (six-16) from beyond the arc.

The second half was filled with excitement for both teams, as the Seminoles and Tigers each shared the lead, with a total of eight lead changes during the game. Florida State held their largest lead by seven points three minutes into the second half.

Clemson went on their largest scoring run of the half over six minutes, scoring 16 points versus the Seminoles' seven. Florida State quickly regained their lead on a 10-0 scoring run over three minutes, never wavering their lead throughout the remaining eight minutes until the final seconds of the game.

The Seminoles scored 22 points in the paint and 22 points off the bench, out-scoring Clemson's 11 points off the bench. Off of their opponent's 18 turnovers, Florida State scored 22 points and had 15 fast break points.

Overall, Florida State shot 27-62 (.435) from the field, 13-30 (.433) from beyond the arc, and 14-20 (.700) from the charity stripe.

Men's Basketball Defeats Miami, 85-84, On Cleveland Buzzer Beater.

by Taylor Caradonna

CORAL GABLES, Fla. - Florida State's Matthew Cleveland made a well-contested 3-point shot at the buzzer to give Florida State an 85-84 win over Miami after being down by 25 points in the first half. Cleveland's heroics came directly after a Jordan Miller 3-point shot off of an inbound play that gave the Hurricanes an 84-82 lead. Cleveland then inbounded the ball to guard Jalen Warley and got the ball back as he crossed halfcourt before launching his second career buzzer-beating 3-point game-winning shot. The sophomore also beat Virginia on a nearly-identical shot in Charlottesville during his freshman season.

The Seminoles' 25-point comeback is the largest in the history of the storied Atlantic Coast Conference. The Seminoles trailed by 25 — 50-25 — after Jordan Miller made a free throw to extend the Hurricanes' lead. From that point on, the Seminoles outscored Miami on its home court by a 60-34 margin (6-4 to close the first half and 54-30 in the second half to gain the improbable victory. The Seminoles committed one second half turnover, shot .667 percent from the field (21 of 31) and .833 from the free throw line (10 of 12) to earn their fifth consecutive win on Miami's home court.

Although the Seminoles struggled in the first half, they came out with a game-changing momentum to start the second half as they scored 13 points against the Hurricanes' one point over a span of three minutes. Florida State made each of its seven field goals in the opening minutes to come within 12 points of Miami.

The matchup took an advantageous turn for the Seminoles halfway through the second half, as Florida State went on another 11-0 scoring run over four minutes to narrow the score to 68-66, with Miami still leading by two points.

Green Jr. and Caleb Mills combined for three made free throws and a layup to give the Seminoles their first lead of the game, 71-70.

During the remaining six minutes of the game, the score switched between the two teams a total of 10 times. What looked like to be a late Miami victory turned out to be a groundbreaking win for the Seminoles as Cleveland took the final shot of the game from beyond the arc to make a buzzer-beating 3-pointer.

In the second half alone, Florida State outscored the Hurricanes 54-30 with 18 of the Seminoles' points coming from Matthew Cleveland.

Florida State had a .524 (33-63) shooting percentage from the field, a .350 (7-20) shooting percentage from beyond the arc, and shot 12-14 (.857) from the free throw line. Three Seminoles shot a perfect three for three from the charity stripe; Warley, Darin Green Jr., and Matthew Cleveland.

With 10 steals against Miami, this marked the sixth time this season they have totaled 10 or more steals in a game.

Chandler Jackson tied his career high with 10 points against the Hurricanes. With Jacksons' two assists in tonight's game, he earned his ninth consecutive game totaling at least one assist. Warley also tied his career high with seven rebounds.

Men's Basketball Falls to North Carolina, 77-66.

by Taylor Caradonna

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - North Carolina's RJ Davis scored a game-high 19 points on seven made field goals and two free throws to lead the Tar Heels to a 77-66 victory over the Seminoles at the Donald L. Tucker Center. Davis led four Tar Heels in double figure scoring, Leaky Black (18 points), Caleb Love (16 points), and Pete Nance (15 points) to earn their 11th ACC victory of the season.

Junior Caleb Mills led Florida State with 19 points and six rebounds. Sophomore Matthew Cleveland came within one rebound of his 12th double-double of the season as he totaled 12 points and nine rebounds.

The Tar Heels took an early 7-2 lead in the opening minutes of the first half. The Seminoles quickly scored back-to-back points to narrow the scoring gap to 7-6.

Although North Carolina was off to a hot start with four of five field goals made in the first six minutes, the next four minutes of the half consisted of three turnovers, along with a prolonged scoring drought for the Tar Heels. Florida State took this opportunity to tie the score 12-12 with a made 3-pointer from Chandler Jackson.

North Carolina made three field goals within a minute and a half to score nine points versus the Seminoles' zero. This gave the Tar Heels a 10-point lead with less than five minutes remaining in the first half. Scoring six points in 37 seconds, North Carolina's 11-0 scoring run gave them their biggest lead of the game, 43-25, to lead going into intermission.

The Seminoles refused to let the first half define them, scoring 41 points in the second half versus the Tar Heels' 34 points. The matchup came down to the final minutes of the game, as Florida State scored 14 points over a three-minute period to narrow North Carolina's lead to only four points.

From that point on, North Carolina made three of their last three field goals, along with seven made free throws, to finalize the last two minutes of the game with a 13-6 scoring run.

Jalen Warley earned a monumental career mark against the Tar Heels with 100 assists in a season, totaling two assists against North Carolina to join teammate Caleb Mills who has been credited with 105 assists in the 2022-23 season.

Darin Green Jr. moved into sole possession of the third-highest single-season total in school history for 3-pointers, totaling 86 in his first season as a Seminole. He needs just four more made 3-pointers to become the third player in school history with 90 or more made 3-point shots in a season.

Mills led the Seminoles with 10 points on four made field goals and two free throws in the first half. Florida State scored 18 points off the bench, as compared to North Carolina's three points.

The Seminoles had another momentum-changing second half, scoring six points in the opening seconds to narrow the score to 43-31.

With nine points combined from Cam Corhen, Green Jr., Mills, and Baba Miller, Florida State went on a 9-2 scoring run over the Tar Heels to narrow the score to 64-55 with four minutes remaining in the second half.

Jalen Warley added three points to the Seminoles score, making three of four free throws, in addition to a made layup from De'Ante Green that slimmed the Tar Heels lead to only four points with less than three minutes remaining in the game.

North Carolina scored 13 points in the final two minutes of the game to finalize the score 77-66.

The Seminoles' defense limited Tar Heel All-American Armando Bacot to one point and eight rebounds. His only point of the game came on a free throw with 26 seconds remaining in the contest. Bacot entered the game averaging 17.0 points and 10.9 rebounds in the Tar Heels' first 29 games of the season.

Men's Basketball Falls to Virginia Tech in Regular Season Finale, 82-60.

by Taylor Caradonna

BLACKSBURG, Va. - Virginia Tech's Sean Pedulla scored a game high 25 points on eight made field goals and three free throws to lead the Hokies to a 82-60 victory over the Seminoles at Cassell Coliseum. Pedulla led five Hokies in double figure scoring, Hunter Cattoor (14 points), Grant Basile (13 points), Rodney Rice (10 points), and MJ Collins (10 points), to earn their 18th victory of the season and complete the regular season with eight ACC wins.

Caleb Mills led the Seminoles with 14 points on six made field goals. For the second time in his career, he surpassed the 400-point milestone in a season. He is one point shy of establishing a new single-season career-high for points in a season.

This was Mills' 21st time as the Seminoles' leading scorer in a game.

Darin Green Jr. and Matthew Cleveland joined Mills in double figures, scoring 10 points apiece.

Green Jr. leads the ACC in 3-point field goals made in entering the 2023 ACC Tournament. With an additional two 3-pointers made against Virginia Tech, he surpassed Wake Forest's Damari Monsanto to take over the lead ACC 3-pointer spot with 88 made 3-point field goals in a season.

Green Jr. finishes the regular season in a third place rank for made 3-pointers in a single-season for Florida State. His 88 made 3-pointers is the third-highest single-season total in school history.

Baba Miller pulled down a team-high four rebounds against Virginia Tech.

In the regular season finale for both teams, Virginia Tech came out on top in the opening minutes of the game, scoring 14 points over a five minute period to lead 14-0 over the Seminoles.

The Hokies attempted to keep a rigid point spread between the teams during the half. Florida State went on a 10-2 scoring run in the final minutes of the first half to narrow the score to 39-30 with Virginia Tech leading into intermission.

The Seminoles continued their momentum into the second half, starting off with a 3-pointer from Caleb Mills to get within four points of the Hokies.

Mills and Chandler Jackson were the only Seminoles to score over the next seven minutes as Virginia Tech went on an 18-4 scoring run to once again widen the score.

Florida State faced a three minute scoring drought late in the second half, along with four turnovers, which allowed the Hokies to embark on another 10-0 scoring run. Jackson broke the streak with a layup that pushed Florida State up to 54 points compared to Virginia Tech's 79 points.

The Seminoles finished the game strong, scoring six points on three for three made field goals in the final minute of the game. Virginia Tech was unable to score in the last two minutes of the only matchup between the two teams this season.

Florida State shot 26-59 (.441) from the field and 8-24 (.333) from beyond the arc. The Seminoles scored 24 points in the paint and 17 points off the bench.

Men's Basketball Falls to Georgia Tech In ACC Tournament, 61-60.

by Taylor Caradonna

GREENSBORO, N.C. - Georgia Tech's Ja'von Franklin made the game-winning free throw with 0.3 seconds remaining to give the Yellow Jackets a 61-60 victory over Florida State in the first round of the ACC Tournament at the Greensboro Coliseum. Franklin was fouled on a lay-up attempt and sent to the line. He made his first free throw and intentionally missed the second attempt to allow the time to expire and Georgia Tech escaped with the victory.

A desperation heave at the basket by Florida State's Cam Corhen missed as the clock hit 0:00.

The win sent the Yellow Jackets into a second round game against No. 5 seeded Pittsburgh.

Georgia Tech's Miles Kelly scored a game-high 21 points on seven made field goals and three free throws to lead the Yellow Jackets in the scoring column. Kelly led three Yellow Jackets in double-figure scoring as Ja'von Franklin and Dallan Coleman each added 10 points of their own to the final score.

The Yellow Jackets outscored the Seminoles by an 8-7 margin in the final 3:39 of the game to advance to the second round of the tournament.

Georgia Tech started off the game with a 6-2 lead over Florida State, although this lead didn't last long as the Seminoles went on an 8-0 scoring run to take the lead - a lead they held until the Jackets tied the game with 3:39 remaining in the second half.

Georgia Tech gained on the Seminoles to tie the score 60-60 with less than a minute left, and ultimately won the game on Franklin's free throws.

Corhen earned his first career double-double with 12 points and a career-high 12 rebounds that shared the team-high of points scored with Darin Green Jr. It was Corhen's second game leading the Seminoles in scoring.

Florida State had a .414 (24-58) shooting percentage from the field, a .261 (6-23) shooting percentage from beyond the arc, and shot six for 12 (.500) from the charity stripe. The Seminoles scored 32 points in the paint and 15 points off the bench.
