Seminoles Fall In Straight Sets Versus No. 5 Wisconsin.
Florida State was unable to fight back after an early deficit on Friday afternoon.

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - Despite improving throughout the match, including taking a 19-18 lead late in the third set, RV Florida State (0-1) dropped its first contest of the 2019 season in straight sets (15-25, 22-25, 23-25) to No. 5 Wisconsin (1-0) in the ACC/Big Ten Challenge on the campus of North Carolina.

The Badgers outhit the Seminoles (.308 to .000) in the first set, but Wisconsin's hitting percentage dropped to .242 and .196 in the second and third set, while FSU's improved to .182 in the second and .231 in the third.

Senior Payton Caffrey led the way for the Noles, coming up a kill short of a double-double on nine kills and 12 digs. Junior Taryn Knuth and Emma Clothier each recorded a .400 hitting percentage on seven and five kills, respectively, while Adrian Ell and Lily Tessier each posted 13 assists.

"The first match of the season always brings uncertainty," said FSU head coach Chris Poole. "Disappointed in the first set, but really proud of the fight we showed at the end of set two and all of set three. Wisconsin is a legit top-five program, and we got stronger and more competitive as the match progressed. We played five players that weren't on the court last year for us, and for of them were freshmen. We will learn from our mistakes and get better."

Wisconsin used an efficient offense to take a 25-15 win in the first set for an early lead. The Seminoles and Badgers traded points throughout the start of the set and a block by FSU's Morgan Chacon and Emma Clothier cut Wisconsin's lead to 11-10. But the Badgers closed out the opening frame with a 14-5 run, including three kills from Dana Rettke.

The Seminoles started strong in the second set, taking a 5-3 lead early on behind a pair of service aces by Chacon. Wisconsin quickly recovered and went on a 10-0 run to make it 15-6. Florida State continued to battle and put together a pair of four-point runs to cut the lead to three at 22-19 after a kill by Jessica Nunge. After Wisconsin got to set point at 24-19, kills from Payton Caffrey and Jasmyn Martin, along with a block by Martin and Clothier, got the Noles within two before the Badgers wrapped up the set at 25-22.

Florida State got out to a 3-1 lead in set three after a kill by Martin, but Wisconsin look the lead back after a four-point streak. The Seminoles worked back into the match and tied the set at 15-15 on a block by Clothier and Deja Williams. Florida State took the lead back at 19-18 on a kill by Clothier and neither team held more than a one-point lead until Wisconsin reached set point at 24-22. Knuth's seventh kill of the match kept the set going, but the Badgers ended the set, and the match, with a 25-23 win in the third.

"It's a short turnaround to match up against the No. 3 team in the country in Minnesota, but we wanted this challenge and just need to get more consistent," added Poole.

Straight-Set Stunner! Florida State Sweeps No. 3 Minnesota.
The Seminoles post their highest-ranked victory in program history on Saturday afternoon.

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - With an outstanding performance from beginning to end, the Seminoles made history on Saturday as RV Florida State (1-1) swept No. 3 Minnesota (1-1) by a score of 25-17, 26-24, 25-21, to mark the highest-ranked win in program history.

It is the first-ever win for Florida State over a Top-5 team, and is the first Top-10 victory for the Noles since a 3-1 win on the road at No. 7 Nebraska on August 29, 2014.

Junior Jasmyn Martin, who transferred from Minnesota during the offseason, had an outstanding afternoon against her former team, posting a .500 hitting percentage on 16 kills, while adding two blocks. Senior Payton Caffrey added a double-double on 10 kills and 12 digs, while Morgan Chacon recorded nine kills and 11 digs. Freshman Emma Clothier had another quality outing with six kills and a .556 hitting percentage, while redshirt freshman Lily Tessier recorded 21 assists on the afternoon.

"I was really proud of the team effort today," said FSU head coach Chris Poole. "Although we lost last night, we got stronger as the match progressed. We challenged the team to come back today and start faster. This team has lots of potential and my expectations are always high. It was great to see this group step up and play to those expectations."

Florida State dominated the Gophers in the first set, leading from beginning to end to post a 25-17 win and take an early 1-0 lead in the match. Jasmyn Martin was outstanding in the opening frame, recording seven kills with zero errors for a .714 hitting percentage. Aces by Chacon and Madison Sullivan gave the Noles an early 6-3 lead and Florida State cemented its position in the set on back-to-back blocks by Caffrey to push the lead to 18-12. Three of the last five points for FSU were scored on kills by Martin as the Noles took the first set 25-17.

Minnesota opened the second set with three straight points, but the Seminoles worked back to take a 5-4 lead. It was a tightly contested set, as neither team was able to take more than a two-point lead until Minnesota got in front 21-18. The Golden Gophers reached set point at 24-20 after a kill by Stephanie Samedy, but the Seminoles refused to give up.

Consecutive kills from Martin, Caffrey and Chacon, followed by an attacking error by Minnesota tied the set at 24-24. FSU quickly took the set on back-to-back blocks involving Knuth to secure the second set victory, 26-24.

Continuing where they left off in the second set, the Noles opened set three with four straight points for an early lead. Minnesota stayed in the set and twice cut the FSU lead to two at 9-7 and 17-15, but would not get any closer. The Seminoles took advantage of several miscues from Minnesota in the final frame, as the Gophers committed four service errors and five attack errors in the third set. Kills by Martin and Caffrey set up match point, and an attacking error by the Gophers closed out the victory for the Seminoles.

"It was a great team win," said Martin. "We executed our game plan and played our hearts out for each other. The chemistry and effort by the entire team and coaching staff was phenomenal, and this is just the beginning. Go Noles!"

No. 22 Florida State Holds Off Owls In Five Sets.
The Seminoles post a season-high 14 blocks in the win over Florida Atlantic.

FORT WORTH, Texas - Going the distance of five sets for the first time this season, No. 22 Florida State (2-1) picked up its second win of 2019, topping Florida Atlantic (2-2) by a score of 23-25, 25-11, 25-22, 27-29, 15-5 on Friday afternoon as part of the Fight In The Fort on the campus of TCU.

The Seminoles posted a season-high 14 blocks in the victory, led by Taryn Knuth with eight. Senior Payton Caffrey (22 kills, 14 digs) and redshirt freshman Morgan Chacon (15 kills, 17 digs) each recorded double-doubles, while junior Jasmyn Martin posted a .400 hitting percentage with 11 kills and just one error. In her first match of the season, sophomore Marissa Stockman recorded five kills and zero errors, along with six blocks.

"Excited that we won, but disappointed with the way we played through several parts of the match," said FSU head coach Chris Poole. "We made a lot of little errors today that I was hoping would have been cleaned up a bit.

"I was really proud of all three of our pin-hitters - Payton, Morgan and Jasmyn - they each had really good matches. It was good to see Marissa come in and have a good match as well."

The Seminoles started strong in the first set, breaking out to a 6-3 lead on a kill by Stockman. FAU tied the match at 8-8 and the match stayed within two points until the Owls went on a 6-1 scoring run to push out to a 21-17 lead. The Seminoles cut the lead to one at 22-21 and held off one set point at 24-23, but the Owls closed out the first set, 25-23.

Florida Atlantic controlled the early going in set two, scoring the first three points, but a pair of blocks by Knuth and a service ace by Adrian Ell put the Noles in front 7-6. After the set was tied at 9-9, it was all Florida State down the strech as the Seminoles put together a 16-2 run, including six kills by Caffrey, to cruise to a 25-11 win.

Blocks were frequent at the beginning of set three, as the teams combined for six blocks as the Noles held a 9-8 lead. It remained close until a kill by Caffrey gave FSU a 20-17 lead. Florida State gained set point after a service error by FAU and closed out with a 25-22 set win on a block by Knuth and Stockman, which was the sixth of the set and ninth of the match by the Noles.

It was a back-and-forth battle in the fourth set as neither team held more than a two-point lead until FSU made it 13-10 on a kill by Chacon. FSU grew the lead to five at 22-17 on a solo block by Emma Clothier, but FAU got back into the set with a 7-1 run to take a 24-23 lead. The Seminoles held off three set points before gaining a set point of their own at 27-26 on a kill by Caffrey. The Owls closed out the set, forcing a decisive fifth frame by scoring the final three points for a 29-27 win.

In the fifth, the Seminoles jumped out to an 8-3 lead with kills by Chacon, Caffrey and Martin, as well as a service ace from Taylor Roberts. Florida Atlantic recorded back-to-back kills to get within three, but Florida State scored the final seven points, including three consecutive blocks involving Knuth, along with an ace by Ell to secure the 15-5 victory.

"When playing a team like Florida Atlantic, this is one of the biggest matches on their schedule," added Poole. "They are going to be all out to beat you, and I think they came out more focused than we did. That is going to be something we need to work on, being prepared and playing at our highest level."

Redshirt freshman Lily Tessier led the team with 33 assists, while Ell added 20 of her own. Senior Madison Sullivan finished with 12 digs, four assists and a service ace as the libero.

Seminoles Fall In Straight Sets To Colorado State.
No. 22 Florida State drops its second match of the season on Saturday afternoon.

FORT WORTH, Texas - With six service errors and 13 attacking errors, the Seminoles struggled to execute with consistency on Saturday as No. 22 Florida State (2-2) dropped a straight-set match to RV Colorado State (5-1), 23-25, 18-25, 22-25.

"Disappointed in the match, but things can happen like this early in the season where you have some inconsistency," said FSU head coach Chris Poole. "We played a lot of different players today to try and find the ones that were on for the day, and we really struggled the first two sets to get into any kind of rhythm whatsoever. It was actually some of the young players that came in for the third set that gave us some life, but we really need the consistency of the upperclassmen to be able to take control of the match. And we just weren't able to do that today."

Colorado State started well in the first set, taking early leads of 3-1 and 7-4, before FSU came back to tie it at 10-10. The Rams went on a 5-0 run to break open the set, eventually leading by seven at 22-15. A solo block by Emma Clothier began a late FSU rally to get within one at 23-22, including pair of aces by Payton Caffrey. The Noles held off one set point before a kill by CSU gave the Rams a 25-23 win.

Much like the first set, Colorado state controlled the early going, posting leads of 8-4 and 13-7, including a 5-1 run. The Seminoles had three blocks in the set, all involving Clothier, but FSU allowed four service aces to the Rams and could not get within four as CSU took set two by the score of 25-18.

It was back and forth to start the third set as neither team led by more than one until a block by Taryn Knuth and Marissa Stockman put the Noles up 7-5. Strong performances from Clothier and Knuth maintained the FSU lead at 14-12 until CSU went on an 8-1 run to take control of the set with a 20-15 lead. The Noles refused to quit and got within one point at 23-22 on a kill by Jessica Nunge, but the Rams scored the final two points to win the match in straight sets.

Knuth led the team with six kills and a .455 hitting percentage, while Clothier's five blocks topped the squad. Setters Lily Tessier and Adrian Ell finished with 12 and 10 assists, respectively, while Caffrey ended the match with a team-high 10 digs.

No. 22 Florida State Earns Sweep On The Road At RV TCU.
The Seminoles close out the weekend with a 25-20, 25-20, 25-18 win against the Horned Frogs.

FORT WORTH, Texas - Wrapping up the three-match weekend in Fort Worth, No. 22 Florida State (3-2) swept host school RV TCU (3-3) on Sunday by the score of 25-20, 25-20, 25-18. The Seminoles picked up their first true road win over the Horned Frogs to improve to 4-0 all-time against TCU, dating back to 2007.

Juniors Jasmyn Martin and Taryn Knuth were named to the Fight In The Fort All-Tournament Team, as Martin was second on the team with 25 kills and added seven digs and five blocks, while Knuth tallied 15 blocks and topped the team with a .406 hitting percentage on the weekend with 16 kills.

"I loved the way we rebounded from yesterday's loss," said FSU head coach Chris Poole. "I thought that we played with much better control today, and in preseason, it is still about finding yourself. We have a lot of players coming off the bench that are doing well, which speaks to the depth of our team. Because not everyone is going to have their best day, and it is good to have different options. I was really proud of the way they competed today. Yesterday was very disappointing for them, so it was good to see them snap back and play much better today."

It was a strong start for the Seminoles in set one as Emma Clothier and Martin put down early kills and the duo combined for a block as FSU opened with a 3-0 lead. The Seminoles grew the lead up to 15-6 on a pair of blocks by Knuth and Marissa Stockman, kills by Morgan Chacon and an ace by Lily Tessier. FSU made it an 11-point advantage at 20-9, before TCU worked back into the set with a 6-1 run to cut the lead to 21-15. The Horned Frogs held off three set points, before serving into the net to give the Noles a 25-20 win.

TCU opened the second set with the first two points, but the Seminoles kept it close and even tied the set at 5-5 and 8-8, until an ace by Adrian Ell gave the Noles a 13-12 lead. Overall, Florida State used a 7-0 run to take a five-point lead at 17-12. The Noles held onto their advantage, using kills by Knuth and Stockman, along with a set-clinching kill by Payton Caffrey to post a 25-20 set win.

It was back and forth to begin the third set, though the Seminoles were able to create a 9-5 lead, highlighted by an ace by Taylor Roberts. TCU worked back to tie the match at 12-12, but were unable to take the lead. Kills by Martin, Clothier and Knuth, along with aces by Tessier and Caffrey, kept FSU in control as the Noles closed out the sweep with a 25-18 third-set victory.

Caffrey (11) and Martin (10) had double-digit kills on Sunday, while Knuth and Clothier finished with .625 and .556 hitting percentages, respectively. Florida State posted five aces, including two from Tessier, and finished with seven blocks involving five different players on the afternoon.

Friday Night Block Party As Noles Sweep Stony Brook.
No. 25 Florida State recorded 12.5 blocks in its home opener against the Seawolves.

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - On a night where they finished with the same amount of kills as their opponent (37), the Seminoles showed their scoring versatility as No. 25 Florida State (3-2) used 12.5 blocks and six aces to post a 25-21, 25-14, 25-23 sweep over Stony Brook (1-8) on Friday night in front of 927 fans at Tully Gym.

Of the 12.5 blocks, the Noles were led by nine from junior Taryn Knuth, who moved into eighth place in FSU career history with 332 assisted blocks, and now is 11th with 386 total blocks. Fellow junior Deja Williams ended with a career-high-tying eight blocks, as the Seminole defensive wall was guarded by six different players that recorded at least one block in the match.

"It was a good win, and we wanted to put some pressure on some of the younger players tonight," said FSU head coach Chris Poole. "We have a few that were banged up a bit, so we felt that we need to get the newcomers some playing time and get a chance to get their timing down. Overall, I thought they did as well as expected. There were a few mental letdowns and things like that. But it was good to see them continue to fight. At the end, we had five freshmen on the court, and that will be great for their development."

Redshirt sophomore Adrian Ell got the match started on a good note with an ace, and the Seminoles used a lineup that often consisted of two freshmen (Emma Clothier/Jessica Nunge), two redshirt freshmen (Lily Tessier/Morgan Chacon) and a sophomore (Taylor Roberts) on the floor at the same time to open their largest lead at 14-9. Stony Brook rallied to get within one at 15-14 and 21-20, but the Seminoles held off the Seawolves to take the opening set, 25-21.

Set two was back and forth until the Seminoles put together a 5-0 scoring run to break out to an early 8-4 lead, including kills by Caleigh Morrison and Chacon, along with a pair of aces by Nunge. Madison Sullivan served the Seminoles to a 6-0 run in the middle of the set, with two aces of her own, to make it 18-10 Florida State. The Noles closed out the set strong, scoring four of their last six points via the block, to take the second set 25-14. Florida State finished with seven blocks in the set, including five from Knuth/Williams, one from Knuth/Nunge and another from Nunge/Clothier.

The Noles spread production around to begin the third set, with kills from Morrison, Clothier and Knuth as the set was tied early at 5-5. Florida State used a pair of blocks and kills from Chacon and Knuth to go on a 6-0 run for an 11-5 lead in the middle of the frame. The Seminole lead grew to 17-7 before Stony Brook worked back into the set with a 13-3 run to tie the match at 20-20. The Seawolves eventually led by as much as three at 23-20, before the Seminoles recorded the final five points to secure the sweep with a 25-23 win.

Chacon led the team in both kills (13) and digs (12) and Morrison tied for second on the squad with seven kills in her first match played for the Seminoles in her career. Tessier (16) and Ell (13) provided the majority of assists, while Sullivan, Ell and Nunge each recorded two aces apiece.

No. 25 FSU Sweeps St. John's To Win Home2 Suites Tallahassee Invitational.
The Seminoles hold off the Red Storm in straight sets on Saturday afternoon.

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - In a close battle that saw two sets go to a tiebreaker, No. 25 Florida State (5-2) recorded a 28-26, 25-18, 26-24 sweep of St. John's (6-5) on Saturday to win the 2019 Home2 Suites Tallahassee Invitational. The Red Storm finished second in the tournament with a 2-1 record, while Stony Brook (1-2) and Florida A&M (0-2) were third and fourth, respectively.

Senior Payton Caffrey, junior Taryn Knuth and redshirt freshman Morgan Chacon were each named to the All-Tournament Team for their performances on the weekend. Caffrey tallied 19 kills, 10 digs and two blocks, as she only played in Saturday's finale. Knuth led all players with 15 blocks, including two solo, along with 14 kills, while Chacon topped the team with both 20 kills and 25 digs, adding two blocks of her own.

"Proud of the weekend that we had from this team," said FSU head coach Chris Poole. "We are still in the learning process as we continue to play a lot of people in different positions and rotations, which will provide us with a lot of depth as we continue through the season. Now we turn our attention to a pair of SEC teams this coming week, beginning on the road at No. 11 Florida on Tuesday night."

The opening frame was a long battle in more ways than one, as multiple video challenges forced the set to last 52 minutes before the Seminoles were able to earn the 28-26 win. FSU held narrow leads in the early going, as Caffrey recorded three kills to give the Noles a 7-5 advantage. St. John's came back to take the lead at 16-15, and eventually earned set point at 24-22. Junior Deja Williams helped force the tiebreaker both offensively and defensively, as a kill and an assisted block from the Suwannee, Ga., native tied things up at 24-24. A Red Storm kill gave them their third set point at 25-24, but Caffrey's eighth kill of the set tied it up again. Another Caffrey kill and an attacking error by St. John's closed out the set, 28-26.

The second set was controlled by the Seminoles as kills from Emma Clothier and Caffrey, along with a pair of attack errors by the Red Storm, gave FSU a 4-0 lead. The advantage grew to 14-5 on an ace by Chacon and a Knuth kill, and FSU maintained nearly a 10-point lead for most of the set, eventually earning set point at 24-13. St. John's battled for five consecutive points, but another kill by Caffrey ended the set for FSU, 25-18.

Florida State worked out to a 9-7 advantage in the start of the third set, using kills from Jasmyn Martin and Clothier. St. John's managed to tie the set at 13-13 and 18-18, before taking a 20-19 lead after back-to-back kills by Efrosini Alexakou. The Seminoles used a 5-2 run to set up match point at 24-22, but a Red Storm kill and an FSU attack error tied it up at 24-24. Caffrey's 19th kill of the match gave the Noles match point and a solo block by Clothier secured the sweep.

Seminoles Fall On The Road At No. 11 Florida.
No. 23 Florida State is defeated in straight sets on Tuesday night.

GAINESVILLE, Fla. - Executing well in several stretches, and even earning a pair of set points in set two, it was not enough for the Seminoles as No. 23 Florida State (5-3) was swept by No. 11 Florida (6-2) on Tuesday night by the score of 25-21, 27-25, 25-14.

"I was really disappointed tonight," said FSU head coach Chris Poole. "I feel that in the first set, we did not come out aggressive at all. We still were able to hang around and did some nice things, but we were not being the aggressive team that we have been working on all year. We challenged them before the second set and they came out on fire and we were playing great. Though I think when we got up, it was almost like they began to coast and play not to lose, instead of finishing the set. And then after playing hard, and with the way Florida came back to win and go up 2-0, I think we just fell flat. I think the players were deflated after not getting that second set and being able to deal with adversity is another thing we need to learn."

It was a close start to the first set and Florida State was able to tie it up at 5-5 on a block by Taryn Knuth and Jasmyn Martin. The Gators controlled most of the action after that, taking a five-point lead at 15-10. The Noles were able to get within one at 20-19 after kills from Payton Caffrey and Morgan Chacon, but Florida took the first set, 25-21.

The Seminoles were very clean offensively in the beginning of the second set, hitting .667 with six kills on nine attacks to stake an early 8-3 lead. FSU eventually led by as much as six at 11-5, behind kills by Martin and Caffrey, but Florida scored six of the next seven points to get within one at 12-11. The Gators took the lead at 17-16, and used an 8-0 run to lead 21-16, but an 8-2 run by the Seminoles, including both a block and a kill by Emma Clothier, gave FSU set point at 24-23. The Gators held off a pair of set points and eventually took set two by the score of 27-25.

Florida's momentum continued into set three as the Gators scored the first five points of the set. UF extended the lead to 17-6, and eventually won the match with a 25-14 score in set three.

Caffrey led the team with 12 kills, while Knuth and Morgan Chacon tallied seven apiece. Lily Tessier had a team-high 16 assists, while Chacon and Madison Sullivan finished with 10 and eight digs, respectively.

Chacon And Knuth Shine In Sweep Of Crimson Tide.
Florida State tops Alabama on Friday night to close out the non-conference schedule.

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - Dominating throughout the match on both the offensive and defensive end, No. 23 Florida State (6-3) wrapped the non-conference portion of the 2019 season with a sweep of Alabama (8-3) on Friday night by the score of 25-16, 25-13, 25-17. The Seminoles posted a season-high hitting percentage of .372 and recorded nine blocks on the evening.

The 46 points allowed over the entire match is the fewest since September 7, 2018 when the Noles defeated VCU (25-12, 25-17, 25-16). The Seminoles trailed just once in the match on Friday, as the Tide led 3-2 early in the third set.

Redshirt freshman Morgan Chacon had an outstanding night, leading the team with both 10 kills and seven digs, along with a .526 hitting percentage, as the outside hitter did not commit an error in 19 attacks. Junior Taryn Knuth also had an error-free evening as the Johnston, Iowa native tallied seven kills and a .583 hitting percentage on 12 attacks. Knuth also finished with four blocks, increasing her career total to 400, which moved her into eighth place all-time in FSU history.

"We got a lot of players in and everyone played really well," said FSU head coach Chris Poole. "I thought that just had a few slow spots throughout the match, but overall was really encouraged by the level that the team competed at tonight. For the most part, we had good energy and controlled the flow of the match."

Florida State scored the first three points of the match to set an early, aggressive tone. The Seminole lead grew to 14-5 on kills by Knuth and Payton Caffrey, along with a block by Emma Clothier and Jasmyn Martin. Alabama scored five in a row to cut it to 14-10, but it was nearly all FSU the rest of the set as a pair of blocks from Knuth and a kill by Chacon secured the first set, 25-16.

The Noles used a 4-0 run in the early part of set two to break out to a 9-3 lead, forcing a timeout from Alabama. The lead stayed around six for Florida State through the middle of the set, but the Seminoles scored 10 of the last 14 points, including a pair of kills by Marissa Stockman and a block from Deja Williams and Caffrey to post a 25-13 win.

It was a close battle throughout most of the third set, as neither team held more than a two-point lead until a block by Caffrey and Clothier put the Noles up 10-7. The Crimson Tide got within one at 13-12, but a 6-1 run by the Seminoles, which included three kills from Chacon, put Florida State in control of the frame. The Noles got aces down the stretch from Madison Sullivan and Lily Tessier to close out the match, 25-17.

Caffrey finished with nine kills, Martin led the team with five blocks and added five kills, while Stockman was nearly perfect with four kills on five attacks. Tessier recorded 23 assists and six digs, while Taylor Roberts tied the team-high with seven digs.

"I was very pleased with the way we rebounded from Tuesday night," added Poole. "I know they were disappointed and felt that we didn't play as well as we wanted to. We just challenged them to come out tonight and start new and get ready for conference. We used a lot of different people and different lineups tonight, and I thought we did great overall."

Payton Caffrey's 20 Kills Paces Noles In Win At Duke.
No. 23 Florida State begins conference play with a road victory over the Blue Devils.

DURHAM, N.C. - Led by 20 kills from senior Payton Caffrey, No. 23 Florida State (7-3, 1-0 ACC) kicked off conference play on the right foot with a four-set victory on the road at Duke (7-7, 0-1 ACC), defeating the Blue Devils at Cameron Indoor Stadium on Friday night by the score of 27-25, 25-21, 23-25, 25-15.

Caffrey led the team with a .356 hitting percentage and recorded nine consecutive kills without an error from the second to the fourth set. The Chuluota, Fla., native also finished with 12 digs, two aces, two blocks, and a season-high three assists. It marked the 21st time in her career that Caffrey has reached the 20-kill mark, including seven in her 39 matches as a member of the Seminoles.

"We started a bit slow tonight, and Duke kept the pressure on us through the first three sets," said FSU head coach Chris Poole. "I was proud of the players for stepping up in the fourth set and shutting them down. We had a lot of different players that stepped up for us tonight, and that will be important for us on Sunday at Wake Forest."

The first set was a tight battle throughout, as neither team held more than a three-point lead at any point. The Seminoles led early and took a 9-6 lead on a Blue Devil attack error before Duke took its first lead at 12-11. Duke maintained a slim lead throughout the middle of the set, even as the Seminoles tied the match on six occasions. FSU was unable to take the lead until a 4-1 run, capped by a kill from Jasmyn Martin, gave Florida State set point at 24-22. Duke scored the next three points to take their own set point at 25-24, but a kill by Taryn Knuth tied the set, and a pair of attack errors by Duke gave the first set to the Noles, 27-25.

A kill by Caffrey started the second set for the Seminoles, but a four-point run by Duke gave the Blue Devils an 8-6 lead. FSU regrouped and scored six of the next seven points, including a kill by Morgan Chacon to get back in front, 12-9. The Seminoles grew the lead to four at 23-19 on a hustle play by Taylor Roberts, which resulted in the first kill of her career. A misplayed dig was kept up by Lily Tessier, and a diving fist on the ball by Roberts, with her back to the net and nearly 15 feet behind the service line, sent the ball back over to the Blue Devils. The Duke players, who had given up on the point, simply watched as the ball landed at their feet for a kill. The Noles carried that momentum to a 25-21 second set victory.

Duke started the third set with three straight points, but a kill by Jessica Nunge and an ace by Caffrey tied up the set. Duke controlled much of the middle of the set, until Caffrey's 15th kill of the match tied the set at 15-15. The Blue Devils retook a 20-17 lead, and even though the Noles got within one at 21-20 and held off a pair of set points, an FSU service error forced a fourth set as Duke earned the 25-23 win.

Duke took an early lead in the fourth set, but a three-point run by the Seminoles put FSU up 6-5. Kills by Chacon and Caffrey grew the lead to 14-11, and the Noles snowballed the rest of the set, including a 7-2 run, to close out the set and the match, 25-15.

Chacon finished with her third double-double of the season on 12 kills and 14 digs, while senior captain Madison Sullivan led the team with a career-high 16 digs. Tessier finished with 28 assists as the primary setter, while Adrian Ell added 10 assists and a service ace. Sophomore Marissa Stockman continued her perfect start to the season with two kills, increasing her hitting percentage to .520 with 13 kills on 25 attacks and zero errors so far in 2019.

No. 23 Florida State Earns Road Sweep At Wake Forest.
The Seminoles took care of the Demon Deacons on Sunday to remain undefeated in conference play.

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Recording 10 blocks and 38 kills on Sunday, No. 23 Florida State (8-3, 2-0 ACC) remained undefeated in ACC play with a 25-19, 25-20, 25-17 win on the road at Wake Forest (10-3, 0-2 ACC). It is the seventh consecutive season that the Seminoles have started the conference season with a 2-0 record.

The 10 blocks on Sunday mark the fifth time in 11 matches this season that the Seminoles have recorded double-digit blocks, and four of those have come in three-set matches. Florida State entered the weekend ranked eighth in the nation with 2.98 blocks per set. Taryn Knuth led the Noles on Sunday with seven blocks, including two solo, while six different Seminoles recorded a block on Sunday.

"We came out flat during the first set this afternoon, and never really got into a flow," said FSU head coach Chris Poole. "Wake Forest played hard and with confidence, but I am proud of the way we continued to battle, even when we were not as sharp as we wanted. Offensively, we are going to need to improve, as there were too many easy balls that we didn't execute. It will be good to get back home and do more training. There is still a lot of potential for this team."

The first set was a close battle until a 5-0 run by the Seminoles put FSU in front, 9-5, with a trio of blocks by Knuth and two from Marissa Stockman. Wake Forest regained the lead at 13-12, but it was short lived as freshman Emma Clothier posted a block and a kill on back-to-back points to give the Noles a 14-13 lead. Florida State led for the rest of the set, capped by a Wake Forest service error to give the Noles a 25-19 win.

Florida State started the second set strong on an ace by Lily Tessier and a pair of kills by Clothier. Wake Forest got within one at 7-6, but the Seminoles used a 6-1 run to take a 13-7 lead, highlighted by kills from Payton Caffrey and Knuth. The Seminole lead grew to as much as eight at 20-12 after a pair of blocks by Deja Williams and a service ace by Adrian Ell. Wake Forest held off a pair of set points and cut the lead to four at 24-20, but a Caffrey kill gave FSU the second set, 25-20.

Wake Forest opened the third set with a 3-2 lead, but the Seminoles scored the next three points, including an ace from Taylor Roberts, to take a lead that they would not relinquish for the rest of the match. An ace by Tessier grew the Seminole lead to 13-8, and a block by Jasmyn Martin and Knuth maintained the five-point advantage at 19-14. The Noles scored six of the final nine points in the set, as Caffrey's team-high 13th kill of the match secured the 25-17 victory.

Caffrey added eight digs and two blocks, and Martin led the team with a .375 hitting percentage on eight kills and just two errors. Tessier (16) and Ell (14) split the setting duties, and Madison Sullivan added seven digs as the starting libero.

No. 23 Florida State Tops Virginia.
The Seminoles remained undefeated in ACC play with a victory on Friday night against the Cavaliers.

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - Continuing its undefeated start in conference play, No. 23 Florida State (9-3, 3-0 ACC) posted a four-set victory over Virginia (9-7, 1-2 ACC) on Friday night by the score of 25-19, 25-14, 17-25, 25-22.

The Seminoles were led offensively by redshirt freshman Morgan Chacon, who finished with a .414 hitting percentage and 15 kills. The outside hitter did not commit an attacking error until the third set, after recording 11 kills on her first 18 attacks. Senior Payton Caffrey recorded a team-high 20 kills on the night as the Noles ended with a .349 hitting percentage.

"I thought we played pretty well, for the most part, in the first two sets," said FSU head coach Chris Poole. "We played really well in the second set, so it was disappointing the way we fell off in the third set, and came out so flat in the fourth. I think the team realized they needed to step up and take control, and I was glad to see us finish the way we did. But certainly, we will need to continue to get better and need to be able to eliminate mistakes."

It was an offensive start to the first set as both team were hitting over .400 through the middle of the first set, as neither team managed to take more than a two-point lead until a Virginia attack error gave Florida State a 19-16 lead. The Seminoles controlled the final portion of the set, including kills from Taryn Knuth and Chacon, and the duo combined on a block to give FSU the first set, 25-19.

Caffrey gave the Seminoles a 11-8 lead in the second set after three consecutive kills. Florida State grew its lead to 18-10 after a 6-0 run, which included kills from Chacon and Marissa Stockman. The Noles continued to dominate offensively, posting a .567 hitting percentage for the entire second set, taking a 2-0 lead on a 25-14 win.

Virginia opened the third set with a 5-0 run and the Seminoles worked back into the set, making it 8-6 after a kill from Chacon. Despite aces from Caffrey and Taylor Roberts, along with a pair of blocks from Knuth, the Seminoles would not get any closer as Virginia took the third set, 25-17.

It was back and forth to start the fourth set, until Virginia used a 3-0 run to take a 6-3 lead. The Noles posted kills from Knuth and Caffrey, but the Cavaliers expanded its lead to 14-7 in the middle of the set. The Seminoles scored the next four points to cut the UVA lead to 14-11, including back-to-back aces from Roberts. Florida State continued to rally, scoring six consecutive points to take the lead at 18-17 on Caffrey's 18th kill of the match. Highlighted by a kill from Jasmyn Martin, the Noles scored three of the last four points to secure the victory with a 25-22 win.

Knuth was errorless on the attack with five kills and added four blocks, while Lily Tessier finished with a career-high 34 assists. Roberts set a career high with three service aces and finished with a season-high 10 digs, while Martin and Emma Clothier ended with seven and six kills, respectively.

No. 23 Seminoles Fall In Four Sets To No. 4 Pitt.
Florida State drops its first ACC match of the season on Sunday afternoon.

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - In a competitive match between the two top teams in the conference, No. 23 Florida State (9-4, 3-1 ACC) lost its first ACC match of the season on Sunday, falling at home to No. 4 Pitt (15-1, 4-0 ACC) by the score of 15-25, 24-26, 25-14, 19-25.

Florida State's 25-14 victory in the third set was just the ninth set that Pitt had lost this season, and by far the fewest points scored in a set this season by the Panthers, as the previous low was 21 against both Pepperdine and Penn State.

Entering the weekend ranked seventh in the NCAA blocking with 2.94 per set, FSU improved on that mark with 18 blocks against the Panthers. It was the most blocks by the Noles since 17.5 blocks against Texas A&M on September 1, 2016.

Emma Clothier (11), Jasmyn Martin (7) and Lily Tessier (5) each recorded career highs in blocks, while Taryn Knuth and Payton Caffrey added six and four blocks, respectively. Clothier's 11 blocks is tied for the fourth-most in a four-set match in the NCAA this season, and is also tied for sixth in FSU history in the rally-scoring era.

"We have been working on our block throughout the season, and are trying to do a better job of lining up," said FSU head coach Chris Poole. "When our blocks are going well, it helps the defense behind them."

"You can never relax in a set or a match, and it was a shame to not be able to close out the second set. I was really proud of how they came out in the third set and battled and played well. About half of this match we played well and about half of it we made too many errors, and you can't do that against a team that is as well-coached and has the experience of Pitt."

After Florida State started the first set with a kill by Caffrey, Pitt went on a run to take a 7-2 lead. The Seminoles got within four at 11-7, including a block from Knuth and Tessier, and kills from Martin and Clothier. The Panthers regained control of the set, scoring six of the next eight points to get in front 17-9. Madison Sullivan recorded her first kill of the season late in the set, but Pitt closed out the first frame, 25-15.

It was close to start the second set, as neither team had a two-point lead until Pitt went up 6-4. FSU then scored three straight points, including an ace by Caffrey and a block from Morgan Chacon and Clothier to tie the set at 7-7. The Seminoles used blocks from Knuth, Caffrey and Clothier to keep the set square at 14-14. Florida State took the lead on a block by Clothier and Martin at 17-16 and scored seven straight points, including an ace by Caffrey and two more blocks from Clothier and Martin, to take a 22-16 lead. Pitt fought off three set points by Florida State and scored the final five points of the set to earn a 26-24 win.

The Seminoles didn't allow the disappointment of the end of the second set affect their performance in the third, as a kill by Clothier opened the third frame and a 6-0 scoring run expanded the Seminole lead to 10-6. The Seminoles led by as much five at 13-8 on kills by Caffrey and Chacon, along with an additional block by Clothier and Martin. Pitt cut the lead to three at 14-11, but Florida State extended the lead out to eight at 21-13 with a blocks by Knuth, Clothier and Tessier, along with kills by Knuth and Caffrey. Caffrey capped the set with her seventh kill of the match, giving FSU the 25-14 victory.

Neither team was able to establish control in the fourth set as highest lead for either team was two until Pitt made it 14-11. Caffrey and Clothier combined for a pair of blocks in the early going of the set, and the Noles added points on kills by Knuth and Caffrey. The Panthers went on a run through the middle of the set, scoring 10 of 13 points to post a 21-14 lead. The Seminoles cut the lead to four at 22-18 on a kill by Clothier before Pitt closed out the match with a 25-19 win.

Sophomore Taylor Roberts set a season high with 18 digs and Caffrey posted a team-high 12 kills, along with eight digs and two aces. Tessier led the team with 28 assists and added an ace as well.

Florida State Sweeps NC State.
The No. 23 Seminoles posted a .346 hitting percentage on Friday night.

RALEIGH, N.C. - Winning its seventh-consecutive road match in ACC play, dating back to last season, No. 23 Florida State (10-4, 4-1 ACC) posted a 25-18, 25-12, 25-19 sweep over NC State (6-11, 1-4 ACC) on Friday night in Reynolds Coliseum.

The Seminoles tallied 10 blocks on the night, led by five apiece from Taryn Knuth and Emma Clothier, marking the eighth time in the 14 matches this season that the Noles have posted double-digit blocks. Of those eight matches, five of them have come in straight-set victories – No. 3 Minnesota (10.0), Stony Brook (12.5), St. John's (15.0), Wake Forest (10.0) and NC State (10.0).

"Overall it was a good match," said FSU head coach Chris Poole. "We did a much better job of limiting our errors tonight than we have in recent matches. We were able to have a lot of players contribute throughout the match, and that helps build the depth of our team."

The Seminoles opened the match with three straight points, including a solo block by Knuth and a combined block from Knuth and Deja Williams. NC State came back to get within one at 5-4, but the Seminoles used kills from Payton Caffrey and Marissa Stockman, along with a service ace from Taylor Roberts to push out to a 10-5 lead. The Noles led by as much as eight at 14-6, before NC State scored six of the next eight points to make it 16-12. Florida State regained control of the set and kills by Jessica Nunge and Stockman gave FSU the first set, 25-18.

FSU got out to a 5-1 lead to begin the second set with a kill from Caffrey and an assisted block by Caffrey and Clothier. The Seminoles used a 9-1 scoring run in the middle of the set, including three service aces from Morgan Chacon and back-to-back blocks by Caffrey and Clothier, to grow their lead to 17-8. An ace by Nunge, along with a kill by Caleigh Morrison, allowed FSU to cruise to a 25-12 victory in the second set.

The Seminoles and Wolfpack alternated points to begin the third set until consecutive kills by NC State gave it a 7-6 lead. The Noles used a clean offensive attack with 12 kills and only one error in their first 17 attacks of the set to take a 17-13 lead. The Wolfpack got within two points at 19-17, but kills by Stockman and Clothier helped the Seminoles close out the match with a 25-19 win.

The Noles posted a .346 hitting percentage for the match, including a .464 mark in the third set, led by Caffrey and Chacon with 11 and 7 kills, respectively. Stockman hit at a .571 clip on five kills, one error and seven attacks, while Lily Tessier led the team with 19 assists.

Florida State Falls In Five Sets At North Carolina.
The Seminoles drop their first ACC road match of the season.

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - Playing just its second five-set match of the season, No. 23 Florida State (10-5, 4-2 ACC) lost its first road match in conference play on Sunday, as North Carolina (7-9, 4-2 ACC) came from behind to win by the score of 26-24, 25-20, 21-25, 23-25, 10-15.

Redshirt freshman Morgan Chacon posted a career-high 20 kills and tied a career high with 17 digs, as the outside hitter added three service aces. Payton Caffrey, who was not in the starting lineup due to illness, did enter later in the first set and recorded a kill in each of her first five attacks. The senior only played in the first three sets on Sunday, but still finished with 13 kills with a .417 hitting percentage and a pair of blocks.

"It was a disappointing loss today," said FSU head coach Chris Poole. "The girls played their hearts out. Payton was dehydrated and running a fever, and it caught up to her in the third set. We were also without Jasmyn Martin this weekend due to injury, so we were asking the freshmen to carry a heavy load. At one point, we had five freshmen on the court at the same time. It just wasn't enough today against a good athletic team on the road. We need to get back home, get healthy and have a good week of practice."

Chacon was all over the box score for the Seminoles in the first set as the redshirt freshman led the team with seven kills and six digs, while adding a pair of service aces as well. Florida State used a 5-1 run in the early going to get out to an 8-5 lead, and stayed in front until UNC scored three straight points to lead 19-18. A solo block by Taryn Knuth gave FSU the lead at 20-19 and back-to-back kills by Emma Clothier closed out the set for FSU 26-24.

The Seminoles took early control of the second set, opening up a 9-4 lead on a 6-1 scoring run, including a pair of kills by Chacon and a service ace from Adrian Ell. The FSU lead grew to 14-8 on kills by Knuth and Payton Caffrey, but UNC rallied to get within two at 15-13. The Seminoles scored seven of the next nine points, including kills from both Ell and Lily Tessier, to extend the lead to 22-15. North Carolina held off a pair of set points, but a kill by Knuth gave the second set to the Noles, 25-20.

North Carolina opened the third set with a 5-2 lead, but the Seminoles used a 5-1 scoring run, including a kill and an ace by Chacon, to move in front, 12-10. UNC used a pair of 4-0 scoring runs to regain control of the set, 19-16. Florida State held off a pair of set points on a kill by Chacon and a solo block by Knuth, but UNC ended up with a 25-21 win.

A pair of blocks involving Knuth gave Florida State an early 5-3 lead in the fourth set, but UNC went back in front 10-7 after a 7-2 scoring run. North Carolina controlled much of the middle of the set, though FSU got within one at 20-19 on Knuth's ninth kill of the match. An ace by Madison Sullivan tied the set at 23-23, but UNC scored the final two points to take the set, 25-23.

North Carolina carried the momentum into the fifth set, opening up to a 6-3 lead, but a trio of UNC attack errors, including an assisted block by Clothier and Jessica Nunge, tied the set at 6-6. The Tar Heels went on a 4-0 run to take control of the set, and while Deja Williams and Nunge combined for a pair of blocks, North Carolina secured the match with a 15-10 win in the fifth.

Knuth posted a season-high 12 kills and added six blocks on the afternoon, while Clothier also recorded six blocks and her 10 kills set a career high for the freshman. Ell led the team with 27 assists and added three kills, while Tessier finished with 26 assists and one kill.

Seminoles Sweep Boston College.
Florida State earned a quality conference win on Friday night.

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - In a tight conference battle that went to a tiebreaker in two of the three sets, RV Florida State (11-5, 5-2 ACC) recorded a sweep over Boston College (14-6, 5-2 ACC) on Friday night by the score of 26-24, 25-20, 31-29. It is the 17th consecutive victory for the Seminoles over the Eagles, dating back to 2008, and FSU has only dropped five sets to BC over that span.

The Seminoles set a season high Friday night with a .390 hitting percentage, led by senior Payton Caffrey, who recorded 16 kills to just two errors on the night. Middle blockers Emma Clothier (.556) and Taryn Knuth (.545) each hit over .500 and only committed one attacking error apiece, while outside hitters Morgan Chacon and Jasmyn Martin finished with 11 and eight kills, respectively.

"Certainly glad to get the victory tonight," said FSU head coach Chris Poole. "We primarily spent most of the week getting everyone healthy from illness and injury, so I wasn't completely sure how we would come out and if we were going to be in our normal rhythm. But I thought the girls continued to play hard, even though our passing wasn't where it needed to be. That caused us to struggle a bit, but offensively, we did a great job. Boston College is a very good team that runs a very fast offense, equivalent of a basketball fast break. So it puts a lot of stress on your team, but I thought we did really well overall."

Boston College opened the first set with a pair of points, but the Seminoles went on a 5-0 run, including kills by Caffrey, Chacon and Lily Tessier to regain the lead. Florida State never trailed for the rest of the set, leading by as much as five at 17-12 on a kill by Adrian Ell that was set into open space in the back row. Boston College closed the gap and eventually tied the match at 23-23 on an ace, but the Noles scored three of the next four points, capped by a Caffrey kill, to take the set 26-24.

The second set started close until FSU scored four straight points, including kills from Knuth and Chacon to take a 9-5 lead. BC came back and scored nine of the next 12 points, to post a 14-12 lead. Kills by Caffrey, Clothier and Martin helped get the Noles back in front at 17-16, a lead that FSU would not relinquish as an ace by Ell down the stretch helped the Noles to a 25-20 win in the second frame.

The Eagles controlled much of the early going in the third set, getting out to an 11-6 lead. A block by Caffrey and Deja Williams began the comeback for the Noles and a block by Knuth and Chacon tied the set at 14-14. Florida State scored eight of the next 11 points, including an ace from Taylor Roberts, to break out to a 22-17 lead. The Seminoles earned set point at 24-19, but BC scored five straight points to extend the match. There were four lead changes in the tie breaker, with FSU serving on four set points and Boston College with two, but consecutive kills by Knuth and Caffrey closed out the set at 31-29 to secure the sweep for the Seminoles.

Tessier led the team with 23 assists, while Ell added 18. Roberts topped the squad with 12 digs, while she, Ell and Madison Sullivan recorded the three services aces for the Noles on Friday night.

Ten Blocks From Taryn Knuth Leads Seminoles In Sweep Of Syracuse.
Florida State finished with 13 blocks as the Noles earned their ninth sweep of the season.

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - For the ninth time this season, and the fourth time in ACC play, the Seminoles have recorded a sweep as RV Florida State (12-5, 6-2 ACC) posted a 25-23, 25-18, 25-21 victory over Syracuse (5-10, 2-6 ACC) on Sunday afternoon at Tully Gym.

The Noles shined defensively as they tallied 13 blocks in the win, marking the 10th time in 17 matches this season that FSU has had double-digit blocks, including six that have come in three-set matches.

Junior Taryn Knuth was dominant for the Seminoles, both on the block and the attack, as the middle blocker recorded a season-high 10 blocks on Sunday, which is tied for seventh-most in the NCAA this season in a three-set match. Knuth also was error-free on 10 attacks, as she finished with six kills and a .600 hitting percentage.

"We continued to be more comfortable today, after a difficult week of getting everyone healthy," said FSU head coach Chris Poole. "We played a very clean match and I was pleased with the way we closed out the weekend. Executing our blocks was important this afternoon and put the pressure on Syracuse. We were able to have most of our players contribute offensively for us today as well, which gives us a lot of versatility when we are able to use all of our hitters."

Florida State started the first set strong, taking an 8-5 lead after kills by Jasmyn Martin and Payton Caffrey, along with service aces by Adrian Ell and Morgan Chacon. The Seminoles maintained their lead throughout the set, including a pair of blocks involving Knuth, but Syracuse managed to tie the set at 22-22 with a service ace. Another block from Knuth and Marissa Stockman and a kill by Caffrey gave the Noles set point and a Syracuse service error gave FSU the first set at 25-23.

The Orange jumped out to an 8-2 lead to begin the second set, but the Seminoles rallied to tie the set at 10-10 after multiple kills by Caffrey, Chacon and Knuth. The Seminoles took the lead at 14-13 on a block by Knuth and Martin, and additional blocks from Knuth, Stockman and Chacon helped FSU grow the lead to 20-15. Florida State carried that momentum to a 25-18 set win, capped by an assisted block from Martin and Emma Clothier.

Syracuse opened the third set with an early 7-4 lead and Florida State quickly came back to take a 9-8 lead after a kill by Clothier. The Orange went back in front and led by as much as three at 14-11, before the Seminoles went on a 7-1 run, including kills by Martin and Chacon, along with blocks by Knuth, Stockman and Martin to make it 18-15. Syracuse rallied to tie the set at 19-19, but the Seminoles scored six of the last eight points, including back-to-back blocks by Caffrey and Clothier, to complete the sweep with a 25-21 win in the third.

Overall, the Noles were led offensively by Caffrey with 15 kills, while Martin hit at a .500 clip on nine kills and just one error. Lily Tessier and Ell each finished with 15 assists, while Stockman tied a career high with six blocks on the afternoon.

Seminoles Swept At Georgia Tech.
Florida State falls on the road against the Yellow Jackets.

ATLANTA, Ga. - Posting a season-low 24 kills, along with a .070 hitting percentage, RV Florida State (12-6, 6-3 ACC) fell in straight sets on the road at Georgia Tech (13-7, 6-3 ACC) by the score of 23-25, 12-25, 13-25 on Friday night at O'Keefe Gym. It is the first time that FSU has been swept in ACC play since November 5, 2017 at Pitt.

"We played like our minds were a thousand miles away tonight," said FSU head coach Chris Poole. "Georgia Tech played great, but we didn't put any pressure on them after the first 10 points of the match. It was very poor execution on our part and I take the blame for not being prepared. We need to find ourselves this weekend and rebound on Sunday at Clemson."

The first set was a back and forth battle, as Georgia Tech took an early 3-1 lead in the first set, but the Seminoles rallied to score eight of the next nine points, including multiple blocks by Payton Caffrey and Emma Clothier, to make it 9-4 Florida State. The Yellow Jackets went on a 9-1 run of their own in the middle of the set to get back in front by the score of 16-12. The Noles regained the lead at 19-18 on a block from Taryn Knuth and Marissa Stockman, and led by two at 23-21, but GT scored the final four points to take the first set, 25-23.

Georgia Tech carried that momentum into the second set, breaking out to an early 11-2 lead. Despite kills by Knuth and Clothier, the Seminoles struggled to find any rhythm as the Yellow Jackets easily won set two by the score of 25-12.

A kill by Knuth gave the Noles a 2-1 lead in the third set, but Georgia Tech went on a 4-0 run to take the lead for good. A kill and a service ace by Caffrey got FSU within six at 13-7, but the Yellow Jackets controlled the rest of the set to secure the sweep with a 25-13 win in the third.

Caffrey led the Seminoles offensively with nine kills, while Knuth had a team-high .357 hitting percentage on six kills with just one attack error. Lily Tessier and Adrian Ell each tallied 10 assists, while Taylor Roberts led the squad with 10 digs and added a service ace.

Payton Caffrey Blasts 20 Kills As FSU Tops Clemson In Four Sets.
The Seminoles won the final three sets on the road at Clemson on Sunday.

CLEMSON, S.C. - Marking the 23rd time in her career that she has finished a match with 20 kills, including nine times at FSU, senior Payton Caffrey helped lead RV Florida State (13-6, 7-3 ACC) to a four-set win on the road over Clemson (10-11, 4-6 ACC) by the score of 15-25, 25-15, 25-18, 25-21. It is the 13th consecutive win for the Seminoles over the Tigers, dating back to 2011.

After dropping the first set to the Tigers, FSU posted a .367 hitting percentage with 48 kills, while limiting the Clemson attack to a .107 clip in sets two to four.

"The first set was a leftover from Friday night, and we really struggled at times this weekend to play up to our potential." said FSU head coach Chris Poole. "There are so many things a student-athlete has to deal with during a season and they have to learn to stay focused in the moment to play consistently. I'm proud to see the players make a change on our side of the net and play awesome for the last three sets this afternoon."

A kill by Jasmyn Martin gave Florida State a 3-2 early on in the first set, but Clemson went on a 10-2 run to break out to a 12-5 lead. Kills by Payton Caffrey and Taryn Knuth, along with blocks by Emma Clothier and Martin, kept the Noles in the set, but the Tigers took the first frame, 25-15.

The Seminoles bounced back and opened a 15-4 lead in the second set after kills by Martin, Caffrey and Morgan Chacon, as well as a block by Clothier and Caffrey. Clemson cut into the lead, shrinking the FSU lead to five at 18-13, but the Noles scored seven of the last nine points, including kills by Clothier and Martin, to even the match with a 25-15 win in set two.

Florida State used a 5-0 run to create a 7-4 advantage to begin the third set, including kills by Deja Williams and Chacon. FSU grew the lead to 10-6 after consecutive blocks by Williams and Knuth, as well as a service ace by Chacon. The Seminoles led by seven at 19-12 after Caffrey's 11th kill of the match, and the Noles maintained that lead to take the third set by the score of 25-18 on a kill by Chacon.

The Noles began the fourth set with a 5-2 lead with a kill by Caffrey and a block from Martin and Knuth. A 7-0 run by the Seminoles, including another ace by Chacon, blossomed the lead to nine at 14-5. Clemson rallied and scored six of the next seven points to cut the FSU lead to four at 15-11. The Noles grew the lead to 23-17 on a kill by Caffrey, and while Clemson got within three at 24-21, another Caffrey kill secured the match with a 25-21 win.

Knuth posted a .611 hitting percentage while tying a season high with 12 kills, while Chacon also had 12 kills to mark the third time this season that the Noles have had three players with double-digit kills. Adrian Ell recorded a team-high 29 assists, while Lily Tessier had 22. Taylor Roberts and Chacon finished with 12 digs apiece, while Clothier ended with seven blocks as the Noles posted 12 blocks in the match.

Seminoles Top Hurricanes In Four Sets.
Florida State improves to 7-1 at home on the season with a win on Wednesday night.

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - Long rallies were a significant part of Wednesday's latest installment of this long-standing rivalry as RV Florida State (14-6, 8-3 ACC) topped Miami (8-11, 4-7 ACC) by the score of 25-21, 21-25, 29-27, 25-21 in front of 715 fans at Tully Gym. It is the eighth home win in a row for the Noles in the series against the Hurricanes, dating back to 2010.

Four different Seminoles ended the match with double-digit digs, led by Payton Caffrey, who, along with her 15 digs, finished with a team-high 21 kills. It marked the fifth time this season that the senior outside hitter has recorded 20+ kills, including four in ACC play.

"It is important to find a way to win, especially when you are not playing as well as you want," said FSU head coach Chris Poole. "I was disappointed in how we struggled like we did at times, and definitely give credit to Miami. They came out and played hard, kept us on our heels and we never really got into our rhythm. The defense was good and we scrambled around tonight. I told them in the fourth set that while we were not playing clean, we were hustling and playing hard. So we need to sharpen a few things, and it will be challenging with a pair of road matches this weekend."

Miami jumped out to a 5-0 lead to begin the first set, but two kills each from Jasmyn Martin, Morgan Chacon and Caffrey helped give the Noles come back to take a 15-14 lead at the media timeout. Florida State used a 7-1 scoring run to open up an 18-15 lead in the middle of the set, before Miami rallied to it up at 19-19. A pair of kills by Martin down the stretch secured the first set for the Seminoles, 25-21.

The Hurricanes scored six of the first eight points in the second set, but the Noles used kills from Caffrey and Emma Clothier, along with a block by Marissa Stockman and Taryn Knuth to get within one at 13-12. Miami pushed the lead back to three before FSU tied the set at 18-18 on an assisted block from Martin and Clothier. The Hurricanes closed out the second set with a 6-2 run to tie the match with a 25-21 set win.

It was back and forth to begin the third set, and despite kills from Knuth and Deja Williams, neither team was able to lead by more than one until a Seminole attacking error made it 10-8 Miami. Florida State tied the set at 13-13 after three consecutive kills by Caffrey, but Miami scored the next four points to regain the lead. An ace by Lily Tessier and a kill by Clothier helped the Noles square the set again at 19-19. Miami scored four of the next five points for a 23-20 lead, but a solo block and a kill from Chacon, along with a block from Knuth and Williams tied the set at 24-24. The Seminoles held off a total four set points from Miami before Caffrey's 16th kill of the match secured the third set for FSU, 29-27.

Several scoring streaks highlighted the start of set four, as the Noles scored three in a row to lead 4-2 after kills by Clothier and Caffrey, along with a service ace by Tessier, which Miami followed with a 4-0 run. Florida State topped that with five straight points on kills by Martin, Chacon and Clothier to take a 9-6 lead in the set. The Noles went on a 6-0 run, including three straight blocks involving Knuth, Williams and Chacon to take an aggressive 16-8 lead in the set. Miami battled back to cut the lead to four at 17-13, but the Noles pushed it back out to 20-13 on a kill by Clothier that was initially blocked, but the ball came back to Clothier, went off her head and over the net for her ninth kill of the match. After Miami held off three match points from the Seminoles, a kill by Knuth ended the match with a 25-21 win.

Tessier finished with a career-high 11 digs, along with 26 assists on the night, while Chacon (13) and Taylor Roberts (11) also had double-digit digs. Adrian Ell added two aces and finished with 23 assists. Knuth continued her success on the attack, posting a .467 hitting percentage with eight kills and just one error, while the junior finished with a team-high eight blocks.

Florida State Earns 10th Sweep Of The Season At Virginia Tech.
The Seminoles win their seventh match in a row against the Hokies in straight sets on Friday night.

BLACKSBURG, Va. - Limiting Virginia Tech to a season-low .041 hitting percentage, the Seminoles recorded their 10th sweep of the season on Friday night as RV Florida State (15-6, 9-3 ACC) defeated Virginia Tech (9-15, 2-9 ACC) on the road in straight sets, 25-20, 25-18, 25-17. It is the seventh consecutive win by the Noles in the series with VT.

Coming into the match ranked third in the NCAA with 3.00 blocks per set, the Seminoles averaged 4.00 per set on Friday, led by freshman Emma Clothier who had eight blocks, including one solo. Taryn Knuth had four blocks, while Jasmyn Martin and Caleigh Morrison added three blocks apiece.

The 12 total blocks by Florida State marks the 13th time this season that the Noles have recorded double-digit blocks, and is the seventh time FSU has had 10 or more blocks in a three-set match.

"This road trip started with some adversity before we even left Tallahassee, as we had several travel delays last night and didn't arrive at our hotel until 3:00 a.m.," said FSU head coach Chris Poole. "The team really stepped up and met that adversity head on today. We were able to get a lot of players in the match and I was proud of the way that everyone kept working throughout the match."

Payton Caffrey opened the match with a kill and Florida State and Virginia Tech traded points to begin the first set until an ace by Clothier gave FSU a 10-8 lead. The Seminoles built on that success, extending their lead to 20-15 after a total of four blocks involving Knuth, Morrison and Clothier. Another block from Clothier and Martin gave the Noles set point, and Clothier's second ace of the match secured the first set for FSU, 25-20.

Virginia Tech began the second set with a 4-2 lead, but the Seminoles went on a 9-4 run, including kills from Martin and Morgan Chacon, as well as a Chacon service ace, to create an 11-6 lead. The FSU lead grew to as much as six at 13-7, but Virginia Tech battled back to tie the match at 13-13. The Seminoles followed with a run of their own, scoring six of the next seven points to take a 19-14 lead. FSU carried that momentum to a 25-18 win, scoring each of the final four points of the set.

The Hokies held an early lead in set three, but Florida State scored four in a row, including kills from Caffrey and Martin, to move in front 7-5. The Noles continued to play well, increasing the lead to six at 16-10 behind back-to-back blocks by Clothier, as well as kills by Knuth and Chacon. Freshman Jessica Nunge got involved with a block and a kill down the stretch, while Marissa Stockman and Knuth added kills to close out the match with a 25-17 win in the third.

Caffrey led all hitters with nine kills, while Chacon and Martin finished with seven kills apiece. Lily Tessier topped the team with 15 assists, as Adrian Ell ended with 10 assists and two aces. Clothier set a career high with three service aces and freshman Lauryn Burrows finished with a career-high 11 digs, as she played the third set as libero.

Career Day From Morgan Chacon Carries FSU Over High Point.
The redshirt freshman set career highs with both 21 kills and 20 digs in the road victory on Saturday.

HIGH POINT, N.C. - Winning its fourth match in a row, all in the last six days in four different cities, RV Florida State (16-6) earned a road win on Saturday over High Point (17-10) by the score of 25-18, 22-25, 25-22, 24-26, 15-10.

Redshirt freshman Morgan Chacon had a career day both offensively and defensively, as she set career highs with both 21 kills and 20 digs on the afternoon, along with a pair of service aces and three blocks. Senior Madison Sullivan also set a career high with a team-high 26 digs, redshirt sophomore Adrian Ell recorded a career-high 30 assists, while Jasmyn Martin ended with 12 kills and a career-high eight blocks.

"Morgan and Jasmyn played really inspired today, and we were fortunate that they were hot," said FSU head coach Chris Poole. "We expected a battle today. High Point head coach Ryan Meek was a former assistant of mine at Arkansas, and I knew he would have them pumped up. High Point is used to playing strong competition out of conference and is always playing for a championship in the Big South. It was great to see our team pushed and still keep fighting. When you play these kinds of teams, there will always be long rallies, and it was great to see several players stepping up big today."

Chacon helped give the Seminoles an early 6-3 lead in the first set as she was involved in four consecutive points on three kills and an assisted block with Taryn Knuth. The Panthers got within one at 9-8, before the Noles went on a 5-1 run, including a block from Emma Clothier and Martin to make it 14-9. Kills by Payton Caffrey and Marissa Stockman, as well as another block from Clothier and Caffrey, allowed the Noles to take the first set by the score of 25-18.

Martin opened the second set with three consecutive kills to give FSU an early 3-0 lead, but High Point quickly rallied to tie the set at 4-4. Kills from Chacon and Caffrey briefly gave FSU the lead at 8-7, but the Panthers followed with a 12-4 run to take control of the set at 19-12. An ace from Sullivan and a kill by Chacon cut the High Point lead to three at 23-20, and the Noles held off a pair of set points, including a block from Knuth and Martin, but High Point was able to tie the match with a 25-22 win in the second.

High Point took an early lead in the third set before the Seminoles scored five in a row, including back-to-back kills from Caffrey, to take a 9-7 lead. The Noles and Panthers battled through the middle of the set, with four different ties, until Florida State took the lead for good on a combined block from Clothier and Martin at 20-19. FSU and HPU traded points down the stretch, but Chacon's 12th kill of the match gave the Seminoles the 25-22 win.

The fourth set was a back-and-forth battle throughout, with 12 ties and seven lead changes, as the Panthers controlled the beginning portion, leading by as much as four at 7-3, before kills by Martin, Clothier and Lily Tessier put the Seminoles in front, 10-9. High Point bounced back and scored five of the next six points to retake the lead at 14-11, before the Noles tied things back up at 15-15 on a pair of kills from Chacon. FSU scored four in a row to take a 19-17 lead, and back-to-back kills from Chacon put FSU in front 21-20, but the Panthers came back to force set point at 24-23. An assisted block from Clothier and Martin tied it up at 24-24, but HPU scored the final two points to force a fifth set.

Kills from Martin and Chacon gave FSU an early 3-1 lead in the fifth set, and consecutive blocks involving Knuth, Martin and Chacon made it 5-2 Seminoles. The Noles continued to build their lead throughout the final frame and closed out the 15-10 victory with kills from Caffrey and Knuth.

Tessier tied a career high with 11 digs, and finished with 27 assists and two kills. Caffrey tallied 16 kills, while Clothier and Knuth ended with seven and five blocks, respectively.

Florida State Falls On Friday Night To Notre Dame.
The Seminoles are defeated in straight sets by the Fighting Irish.

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - Losing at home for just the second time this season, Florida State (16-7, 9-4 ACC) was defeated in straight sets on Friday night by Notre Dame (17-6, 10-3 ACC) by the score of 20-25, 25-27, 19-25.

Payton Caffrey led the team with 14 kills and had only three errors for a .297 hitting percentage, and while Taryn Knuth finished with three kills, zero errors and five blocks, they were the only two Seminole players with a hitting percentage above .140, as FSU ended with 16 attack errors.

"It was a disappointing performance tonight," said FSU head coach Chris Poole. "I felt like we accomplished several things this week in practice, so I was surprised that we came out so flat. With the exception of Payton, no one else got into a rhythm offensively, and we couldn't get the ball to our middles like we normally do because our passing was so poor. It was disappointing overall to play like that, and the girls are going to need to step up and play better Sunday if they want to win."

It was a streaky start to the match as Florida State scored three of the first four points with a pair of kills from Caffrey, and then Notre Dame followed with an 8-2 run to take a 9-5 lead. The Seminoles rallied to tie the set at 11-11 after consecutive blocks involving Knuth, Jasmyn Martin and Marissa Stockman, but the Irish pushed back out to a 17-13 lead in the middle of the set. FSU got within two at 20-18 on a kill by Morgan Chacon, but Notre Dame closed out the set with a 25-20 win.

Notre Damertin and Knuth, and a Notre Dame attack error gave the Seminoles their only lead of the set at 21-20. Notre Dame scored four of the next five points to earn its first set point at 24-22, and the Noles held off a total of three set points on Kills by Chacon, Caffrey and Martin before the Irish took a 2-0 lead in the match with a 27-25 win.

The Fighting Irish used a 7-1 run to break out to a 9-4 lead in the early going of the third set, but the Seminoles cut the lead to one at 9-8 after an ace by Lauryn Burrows and a pair of blocks involving Knuth and Chacon. Notre Dame took control of the set, including a streak of scoring six in a row, to grow its lead to 21-12. FSU came back to cut the lead to six at 23-17 after a kill by Chacon, and held off a pair of set points, but ND completed the sweep with a 25-19 win in the third.

Florida State Closes Out Weekend With Win Over Louisville.
The Seminoles win each of the final three sets against the Cardinals on Sunday.

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - Finishing with 14 blocks, including 13 over the final three sets, Florida State (17-7, 10-4 ACC) came from behind to defeat Louisville (16-8, 9-5 ACC) in four sets on Sunday by the score of 18-25, 25-16, 25-12, 25-22.

Freshman Emma Clothier finished with a team-high eight blocks, while five Seminoles ended with at least three blocks - Taryn Knuth (6), Jasmyn Martin (4) and Payton Caffrey and Jessica Nunge with three each. The three blocks for Nunge tied a career high for the freshman, matching her performance at UNC on October 13.

"Honestly, since the North Carolina match a few weeks ago when we had a few players out due to illness and injury, we haven't played well," said FSU head coach Chris Poole. "Even when we have won, we have still struggled. I thought the first set today looked a lot like how we've played recently, but then we came alive and played so much better the final three sets. We ran our offense much more effectively and had a lot more confidence. That was the difference and hopefully we can gain a little momentum out of it."

Florida State opened the match with three straight points on a pair of kills by Martin, but Louisville came back to score five of the next six points to take a 5-4 lead. The middle of the set was a back-and-forth battle until the Seminoles went on a 4-0 run, including kills by Knuth and Morgan Chacon, along with a service ace by Adrian Ell, to take a 15-12 lead. Louisville took control from that point, closing the set with a 13-3 run to post a 25-18 win in the first set.

The Seminoles bounced back in the second set, posting a quick 9-1 lead on a pair of kills and a pair of aces by Caffrey, as well as a block by Martin and Clothier. The Cardinals came back and got within four points at 16-12 and then the Noles posted a 5-2 run with a kill by Martin and a service ace from Lauryn Burrows to push the lead back out to seven at 21-14. Florida State carried that momentum to tie the match with a 25-16 win in set two.

FSU started the third set with a 7-1 scoring run, including another ace by Burrows, as well as kills by Clothier, Caffrey and Knuth. The Cardinals scored the next four points, but the Seminoles made it 17-7 after a 10-2 run that included consecutive aces from Taylor Roberts and a trio of blocks involving Knuth, Caffrey and Clothier. Florida State wrapped up the set by scoring six of the last seven points, including consecutive blocks from Knuth and Nunge, to post a 25-12 win.

The Seminoles opened a 4-1 lead in the fourth set, including a service ace by Lily Tessier, but Louisville rallied to tie the set at 8-8. The Noles followed with three straight points, all on kills by Caffrey, before the Cardinals managed to take the lead at 15-14. There were four lead changes and five ties throughout the middle of the set, until Florida State took the lead for good at 21-20 on a kill by Nunge. Three of the final four points for the Seminoles came by way of blocks from Clothier, Caffrey and Martin, as FSU secured the match with a 25-22 win in the fourth.

Caffrey recorded 16 kills to lead the team, while Chacon finished with 11. Clothier tallied a team-high .455 hitting percentage on eight kills with just one attack error, and Tessier and Ell shared the setting duties with 21 and 19 assists, respectively. Florida State set a season high with nine service aces from five different players, led by three from Roberts.

Seminoles Fall To Tar Heels In Five Sets.
Florida State loses its second five-set match against UNC this season.

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - Despite holding an advantage over the Tar Heels in hitting percentage, blocks, and assists, as well as posting a 9-1 lead in the fifth set, Florida State (17-8, 10-5 ACC) was defeated on Sunday afternoon by North Carolina (14-11, 11-4 ACC) by the score of 23-25, 21-25, 25-17, 25-23, 13-15. The Seminoles also lost in five sets to UNC on October 13 in Chapel Hill, N.C.

"It was unbelievable," said FSU head coach Chris Poole. "We kept shooting ourselves in the foot throughout the first two sets, but came back and played really well in sets three and four. We had a commanding lead¬, as big of a lead as I may have ever had in a fifth set, only to lose it. Which, again, just goes to show our inconsistency. We have not done a good job of taking care of the ball at critical times and it was the difference in winning and losing the match today."

North Carolina scored the first four points of the match, but the Seminoles were able to cut the UNC lead to 6-5 after kills by Morgan Chacon and Jasmyn Martin, along with a pair of blocks from Emma Clothier. FSU tied the set at 10-10 after a block from Taryn Knuth and Jessica Nunge, but the Tar Heels reopened a 16-12 lead. Kills from Martin and another block from Knuth and Nunge got FSU within two at 19-17, but UNC scored three in a row to take a five-point lead. The Seminoles scored five of the next six points on a kill by Chacon and a pair of blocks from Payton Caffrey and Clothier to get within one at 23-22. That was the closest FSU would get as North Carolina took the first set by the score of 25-23.

The second set was a back-and-forth battle which included 11 ties, six lead changes, and neither team led by more than two until UNC went up 23-20. Florida State scored four in a row on kills by Knuth and Chacon to take an early 5-3 lead, and a solo block by Knuth after a long rally kept the Noles in front at 8-7. UNC worked back to a 12-10 lead, before FSU tied it up again at 14-14 on a kill by Chacon. A service ace by Taylor Roberts, along with kills by Knuth and Caffrey gave the Seminoles an 18-16 lead, but the Tar Heels scored nine of the final 12 points in the set to take a 25-21 win.

The Seminoles bounced back and opened an early 10-4 lead in the third set behind kills by Caffrey, Chacon and Martin, along with a block by Knuth. UNC rallied with a 5-1 run to make it 13-10 in the middle of the set. Florida State used an 8-1 run with kills from Martin and Knuth, as well as blocks from Clothier to extend the lead back out to 22-12, before closing out the set with a 25-17 win.

UNC began the fourth set with a 3-1 lead and the Seminoles slowly came back to tie the set at 9-9 after kills by Caffrey, Knuth and Martin. FSU kept it close through the middle of the set, tying the set seven times on kills by Caffrey, Martin and Knuth, before a kill by Clothier gave FSU a 23-22 lead, its first lead since 1-0. Another kill by the freshman middle blocker, her fourth of the match, gave FSU the 25-53 win to force a fifth set.

FSU got out to an early lead in the final frame on a service ace by Lily Tessier, as well as an outstanding dig from Roberts which turned into an FSU point on a block by Clothier to make it 4-1 Noles. A kill and an ace from Caffrey, along with a block from Clothier and Martin was part of a 7-0 scoring run as FSU took a 9-1 lead. The Tar Heels rallied with an 11-2 run to take the lead 13-12, and closed out the match with a 15-13 victory.

Knuth led the Seminole offensive with 12 kills and zero errors for a .632 hitting percentage, while Martin tallied a career-high 18 kills at a .484 clip. Chacon (15) and Caffrey (14) also finished with double-digit kills, while Tessier set a career high with 39 assists. Clothier ended with 10 blocks, three solo, marking the second time this season that the freshman has recorded 10 or more blocks in a match.

Florida State Defeated In Four Sets At No. 2 Pitt.
Junior Taryn Knuth sets a career high with five solo blocks.

PITTSBURGH, Pa. - Holding the No. 2 team in the country to a .231 hitting percentage while recording 11 blocks on the road, Florida State (17-9, 10-6 ACC) was defeated in four sets by No. 2 Pitt (27-1, 16-0 ACC) on Friday night by the score of 19-25, 28-26, 19-25, 22-25. The second-set victory for the Seminoles marked just the fifth set this season that Pitt has lost in ACC play, along with another from FSU's match with the Panthers on October 6, one versus Clemson and two against Georgia Tech.

Junior Taryn Knuth finished with seven blocks, including a career-high five solo blocks, and inched closer to a milestone, currently with 495 blocks in her three-year career at Florida State. Freshman Jessica Nunge also set a career high, tallying six kills, along with a .333 hitting percentage.

"The girls played hard tonight, we just didn't execute under pressure like we needed to in some of the sets we lost," said FSU head coach Chris Poole. "We just need to learn from it. They should realize that we certainly can play with some of the best teams in the country. Overall, we had five freshmen playing for us and I thought they did a good job. We just need to go back and work to get better."

It was a back-and-forth start to the first set, with seven ties in the first 18 points, as the Noles recorded kills by Payton Caffrey and Morgan Chacon, along with a block from Knuth and Chacon to tie the set at 9-9. The Noles and Panthers traded four-point runs to keep things square at 13-13, and another kill by Caffrey got FSU within three at 19-16. Pitt scored six of the final nine points of the set to secure a 25-19 win.

Pitt took an early lead in the second set, but the Noles rallied with a solo block from Caffrey and kills by Knuth and Chacon to take an 8-7 lead. Pitt used a 9-2 run to break out to a 16-10 lead, before the Noles scored four straight points, including a service ace by Adrian Ell and a solo block by Chacon, to get within two at 16-14. Florida State cut the lead to one on five different occasions down the stretch on kills by Chacon, Knuth and Martin, while another solo block from Caffrey finally tied the set for FSU at 23-23. The Noles earned four set points in the tiebreaker and tied the match with a 28-26 win.

The Seminoles used a 4-0 scoring run with kills by Caffrey and Nunge to open the third set with a 5-3 lead. A kill by Jasmyn Martin made it 9-6 FSU, but Pitt went on a 5-1 run to take an 11-10 lead. A solo block by Knuth puts the Noles back in front 12-11, but the Panthers scored six of the next seven points to make it 17-13. A kill by Caffrey and a service ace by Lauryn Burrows cut the Pitt lead to two at 20-18, but the Panthers scored four in a row to take the third set, 25-19.

After FSU scored the first point of the fourth set on a bad set by Pitt, the Panthers controlled the early points, leading by as much as two, until a kill by Martin put the Seminoles back in front 9-8. Kills by Knuth and Nunge, as well as an assisted block involving them both, grew the FSU lead to as much as three at 15-12, but Pitt came back to tie the set at 16-16. Pitt pushed out to a three-point lead at 21-18, but twice down the stretch the Noles were able to get within one on solo blocks by Knuth at 21-20 and 23-22. That's as close as Florida State would get, as Pitt wrapped the match with a 25-22 win.

Caffrey and Chacon each ended with a team-high 11 kills, while Knuth added nine kills. Taylor Roberts led the team with a season-high 19 digs, while Lily Tessier and Ell each recorded 20 assists.

Payton Caffrey's 15 Kills Carries Noles In Senior Day Sweep.
The senior did not commit an attacking error and posted a .652 hitting percentage on Sunday.

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - Celebrating Senior Day with its most-dominant ACC win since 2009, Florida State (18-9, 11-6 ACC) swept Duke (12-18, 5-12 ACC) by the score of 25-22, 25-7, 25-10 on Sunday afternoon.

The 39 total points allowed is the fewest in a match since surrendering 38 in a victory at Boston College on October 18, 2009 (25-14, 25-15, 25-9), and is the fewest allowed in any match since August 31, 2012 in a win against FIU (25-11, 25-12, 25-16). The seven points allowed in the second set against the Blue Devils is the fewest since giving up just two points in the first set against Stetson on August 30, 2008.

The Seminoles recorded 10 service aces in the match, the most since 2009 against Notre Dame, as seven different players recorded an ace with one each from Morgan Chacon, Lily Tessier, Madison Sullivan and Alyssa Collins, and two from Emma Clothier, Adrian Ell and Taylor Roberts.

Shining on Senior Day, Payton Caffrey led the team with a .652 hitting percentage on 15 kills and zero errors, while fellow senior Madison Sullivan recorded four digs and a service ace. Taryn Knuth set a milestone on Sunday, as her four blocks gave her 500 for her career. The junior middle blocker is the sixth player in FSU history to record 500 career blocks.

"After the first set, that was as good of volleyball as we have played all year," said FSU head coach Chris Poole. "Our offense was really clean, we got some good passes and our setters did a good job of putting us in hittable positions. Everyone played well and contributed today, which was good to see. Good to finish at home that way for the seniors as we try to gain some confidence for the final weeks of the season."

Duke opened the first set with a pair of points, but the Noles used a 5-1 run with kills from Jasmyn Martin and Knuth, as well as a block from Knuth and Jessica Nunge, to take a 5-3 lead. Duke managed to tie the match at 11-11, but the Seminoles opened up a four-point lead with kills from Caffrey and Martin to make it 18-14. The Blue Devils scored four in a row to tie it up at 18-18, but a pair of aces by Clothier helped the Noles close out the first set, 25-22.

Kills from Martin and Clothier gave FSU a 5-1 lead to begin the second set and after a Duke kill got the Blue Devils within five at 11-6, the Noles closed out the set with a 14-1 run on a pair of aces by Roberts, kills from Caffrey, Nunge and Chacon, and a block by Martin and Clothier to post the 25-7 victory.

The Seminoles carried that momentum into the third set, staking a 14-3 lead after kills from Chacon, Caffrey and Martin, along with an ace from Ell. Chacon, Collins and Sullivan added aces down the stretch and Knuth ended the match with a block for the 25-10 win.

CORAL GABLES, Fla. - Closing out the 2019 regular season with a convincing road win on Wednesday afternoon, Florida State (19-9, 12-6 ACC) defeated Miami (10-15, 6-11 ACC) by the score of 25-16, 25-11, 15-25, 25-14. It was the first win on the road in Coral Gables for the Seminoles since 2016.

Freshmen in the front row powered the blocking front for the Seminoles as Emma Clothier and Jessica Nunge had eight and six blocks, respectively.

"Awesome win today on the road," said FSU head coach Chris Poole. "We have played really in most of the last two matches, and that is encouraging heading into the postseason."

It was back and forth in the early going of the first set, before Florida State used an 8-1 scoring run, including kills by Caffrey and a block from Jasmyn Martin and Clothier, to break out to a 15-8 lead. After the media timeout, the Noles used a pair of aces from Caffrey and a block by Morgan Chacon and Clothier to extend the lead to 20-9. Kills from Chacon and Martin, along with a block involving Taryn Knuth and Nunge secured the 25-16 win for FSU in the first set.

The Seminoles controlled the second set, jumping out to a 10-4 lead after blocks from Clothier, Martin and Nunge, as well as kills from Caffrey. Aces from Lily Tessier and Madison Sullivan, along with Kills by Knuth and Caffrey, gave Florida State control of the set at 20-7. Miami scored four in a row to cut the lead to nine, but FSU used a pair of aces by Adrian Ell and a block from Nunge and Knuth to close out the set with a 25-11 win.

Miami bounced back to begin the third set, staking an 8-2 lead before extending its lead to eight at 14-6. Kills by Caffrey and Martin made it 15-10 Miami, but Miami tallied four in a row to lead by nine at 19-10. Another kill by Caffrey and a block from Martin and Clothier closed out the win, 25-14.

Martin finished with 11 kills and five blocks, while Chacon added seven kills and 15 digs. Roberts recorded a team-high 17 digs and Tessier tallied 25 assists in the win.

Seminoles Defeated In Five Sets By UCF In NCAA Tournament.
Florida State ends its season in a close battle with the Knights.

GAINESVILLE, Fla. - Competing in their longest match of the season, the Seminoles were eliminated from the 2019 NCAA Volleyball Championship as Florida State (19-10) was defeated by RV UCF (25-7) in five sets on Thursday, 19-25, 25-20, 25-20, 18-25, 8-15.

"Certainly, congrats to UCF, they continued to fight, even when we had them down," said FSU head coach Chris Poole. "Obviously, it is a disappointing loss when you get into the situation of being up 2-1 and unfortunately, we just did not execute overall the way that we needed to. Tonight kind of summed up a lot of our season, that was frustrating at times, because we are a team that can often play really well and then really frustrating in the same match. That inconsistency ended up being the difference between us being able to get the win tonight."

Senior Payton Caffrey left it all out on the floor in her final match in the Garnet and Gold, leading the team with 25 kills along with 14 digs and three blocks. The 25 kills are tied for third-most by an FSU player in NCAA Tournament history, while her 80 attacks was a career high and also set a school record in the postseason. Freshman Emma Clothier recorded a team-high .429 hitting percentage with 10 kills and just one error, while adding five blocks defensively.

Kills by Clothier and Morgan Chacon tied the first set at 4-4, and a pair of blocks from Caffrey and Clothier kept it square at 10-10. UCF opened a lead of six at 18-12 in the middle of the set, before Taryn Knuth ended the Knight rally with a solo block. The Seminoles used a 4-0 run, including three consecutive kills by Caffrey to cut the UCF lead to three at 17-20, but the Knights closed out the opening set with a 25-19 win.

Consecutive blocks by Clothier and Jessica Nunge helped the Noles post an early 6-3 lead in the second set, while a kill by Caffrey and a pair of UCF service errors put the Seminoles in front, 10-6. The Knights rallied to take their first lead of the set at 12-11, but the Seminoles used a 5-1 scoring run involving a trio of kills from Caffrey to lead 16-13. UCF got within one at 21-20, but the Noles scored the final four points of the set on a pair of kills by Caffrey and a block from Nunge and Knuth to tie the match with a 25-20 win.

Caffrey's 15th kill of the match opened the third set for Florida State, and an ace from the senior, along with kills by Jasmyn Martin and Clothier gave FSU a 7-2 lead. A service ace by Madison Sullivan helped the Noles lead by nine at 12-3, but UCF rallied to make it a three-point set at 14-11 after an 8-2 scoring run. The Seminoles regained control of the set, scoring five of the next six points on kills by Caffrey and a service ace by Lily Tessier to lead 19-12. UCF got within four at 21-17, but a pair of kills down the stretch by Knuth secured the set for FSU, 25-20.

UCF used an 8-3 scoring run in the early portion of the fourth set to take a 10-5 lead. A kill by Knuth was part of three consecutive points by the Seminoles, but the Knights extended their lead back out to six at 14-8. Kills by Nunge, Clothier and Caffrey got Florida State within three at 17-14, but UCF closed out the set to force a decisive fifth set with a 25-18 win.

The Seminoles jumped out to a 3-1 lead in the fifth set on a pair of kills by Caffrey, but UCF used a 5-1 scoring run to move in front 7-6. A kill by Martin tied it up at 7-7, and the Knights executed well to score eight of the final nine points to secure the match, 15-8.

Long rallies throughout the match resulted in career highs in digs from Taylor Roberts (30), Adrian Ell (25), Chacon (22) and Tessier (14), while Roberts, Ell and Chacon's totals are third, eighth and 13th in school history in the postseason. Knuth ended with 11 kills at a .370 clip, along with six total blocks.
