NCAA Gold Medalists Lead ACC Outdoor Track & Field Season Awards. June 22, 2023 GREENSBORO, N.C. - National champions Olivia Markezich of Notre Dame
and Julia Fixsen of Virginia Tech lead the list of 2023 Atlantic Coast Conference Outdoor Track and Field season award winners announced Thursday afternoon. Markezich was chosen the ACC Women's
Outdoor Track Performer of the Year in a vote of the league's head coaches, while Fixsen was voted Women's Outdoor Field Performer of the Year. Markezich won the gold medal in the 3K steeplechase at
the NCAA Division I Championships earlier this month, while Fixsen took the top spot in the pole vault. Syracuse 110-meter hurdles bronze medalist Jaheem Hayles is the Men's Outdoor Track Performer
of the Year, while Virginia javelin silver medalist Ethan Dabbs earned Outdoor Field Performer of the Year honors. A pair of All-Americans - Virginia Tech men's middle-distance runner Nick Plant and
Florida State women's sprinter Dajaz DeFrand - were chosen as the Outdoor Season Freshmen of the Year. Clemson's Mark Elliott was voted the ACC Men's Outdoor Coach of the Year, while Duke's Shawn
Wilbourn earned Women's Coach of the Year accolades. Each guided his team to a first-place finish at last month's ACC Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Raleigh, North Carolina. Markezich,
who has established herself as one of the nation's elite competitors in several distance events over the past three seasons, set a Mike A. Myers Stadium facility record with her winning time of
9:25.03 in the June 10 NCAA final at Austin, Texas, while lowering her personal best by nearly 11 seconds. The Notre Dame runner's effort ranks No. 3 in collegiate history and is just a shade behind
the ACC record of 9:24.02 set by Florida State's Colleen Quigley in 2015. A native of Woodinville, Washington, Markezich put an exclamation point on a 2023 outdoor season in which she claimed the
gold in the steeplechase with a league record time at the ACC Championships and placed first in the 5000 meters at the Raleigh Relays. Virginia Tech's Fixsen matched her career outdoor best in
claiming the NCAA women's pole vault. The native of Shoreview, Minnesota in her second year at Virginia Tech after beginning her career at Georgia, cleared the bar on her first attempt at 4.45 meters
(14-7.25). It capped a stellar 2022-23 season for Fixsen, who also took first place at last month's ACC Outdoor Championships, placed second at the ACC Indoors in February and was a second-team
NCAA Indoor All-American. Syracuse's Hayles posted a personal-best time of 13.28 as he claimed the bronze medal in the NCAA 110-meter hurdles, leading all fellow ACC competitors in the talented
field and placing just .04 behind the winner. Hayles' time was also a school record, beating Freddie Crittenden's previous best of 13.42. Hayles, a native of Newark, New Jersey who also earned
first-team All-ACC honors during the regular season, competed in the NCAA finals for the third consecutive year. Virginia's Dabbs won his fourth consecutive ACC title in the men's javelin, becoming
the first to ever accomplish the feat. He went on to finish as the NCAA runner-up in the javelin for the second consecutive season earning All-American honors for the third time in his career. His
season-best mark of 80.82 meters (265-2) won the Virginia Challenge, setting a meet and facility record. A native of Johnstown, Pennsylvania, Dabbs threw more than 72.90 meters in all five
competitions over the course of the season. Virginia Tech's Plant took first place in the 800 meters at the ACC Championships with a time of 1:47.41, and the Canfield, Ohio, freshman was even
faster during qualifying for the event with a time of 1:47.18 that ranked as the third-fastest in program history. During the regular season, Plant placed second in the 800 meters at the Mt. SAC
Relays with a time of 1:48.71 and third at the Beach Invitational (1:48.73). He also clocked a personal-best 1500 meters time of 3:46.08 at the Toms Alumni Invitational, finishing second. Florida
State's DeFrand earned first-team All-America honors at the NCAA Outdoor Finals after finishing eighth in the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.08. DeFrand was the ACC Indoor and Outdoor Women's Track
Most Valuable Performer after placing first in both the 100 meters (11.18) and 200 meters (22.67) while also running a leg on the Seminoles' second place 4x100 relay team. DeFrand, who hails from
Lincoln, Nebraska, qualified for the national finals with a personal best time of 11.05 in the 100 meters at the NCAA East Regional in late May. She just missed advancing in the 200 meters as well,
finishing just 12/100ths of a second away from a qualifying spot. Clemson's Elliott coached the Tigers to their first ACC Men's Outdoor Championship since 2004 and sent six entries to the NCAA
National Finals. Clemson entered the ACC finals in 10th place but battled back to win by a single point in one of the most thrilling finishes in meet history. Elliott, who just wrapped up his 10th
season as the Tigers' program director, added this year's men's outdoor championship to his 2015 women's conference title. Following a Duke women's season that featured an ACC Championship, 13 NCAA
qualifiers, 33 top-five program marks set and four program records broken, the Blue Devils' Wilbourn earned ACC Outdoor Coach of the Year honors for the second time in three years. Duke won the ACC
Women's Championship going away, totaling a resounding meet-record 145.5 points, breaking the previous record of 134 by Florida State in 2019. The 2023 campaign also saw Wilbourn lead the Blue Devils
to their highest USTFCCCA ranking in program history, checking in at No. 4 in the Week 2 rankings. Both Elliott and Wilbourn were also named Southeast Region Head Coaches of the Year by the
USTFCCCA. 2023 Outdoor Track & Field Season Honors

Kone and Davis Grab World Leads at Clemson Invitational.
January 13, 2023
CLEMSON, S.C. - Jeremiah Davis and Ismael Kone ended the day with a bang as each of them posted world-leading marks at the first day of the Clemson Invitational.
Kone broke the school record in the 60m dash with a time of 6.51. Kone's mark is tied for the 11th-fastest mark in NCAA history, and it broke Andre Ewers' and Dentarius Locke's school record. Davis's mark of 8.17m is good enough for third on FSU's all-time list.
"An incredible race by Ismael. He's worked really hard to get to this point and when you own a record in Florida State's record book, it usually means you're a world-class athlete," Head Coach Bob Braman said. "Jeremiah had a great start to his season today. His mark was better than his outdoor personal bests, and we can't wait to see his improvement throughout the season."
The long jump was the highlight of the day for the Noles as they took four out of the top six spots. Joining Davis was Curtis Williams (7.62m) in fourth, Kyvon Tatham (7.38m) in fifth and Jaiden Rollins (7.33m) in sixth.
In the 60m dash, Taylor Banks finished fourth (6.628), and Amir Willis (6.630) finished right behind him in fifth.
Samuel Field had a great day in the mile finishing second with a time of 4:05.38. That time puts him at No. 12 on FSU's all-time list.
On the women's side, the 1,000m run proved to be the highlight of the day for the Noles as Yasmine Abbes (2:48.33), Suus Altorf (2:48.72) and Bieke Schipperen (2:50.29) finished second, third and fourth in the event.
Faith Banks had a solid day in the 400m dash finishing fourth with a time of 55.06.
January 14, 2023
CLEMSON, S.C. - The Florida State track and field team had another solid day at the Clemson Invitational at the Rock Norman Indoor Track and Field Complex on Saturday afternoon.
The Noles were led by the men's 4x400m relay (Butler, Collier, Willis, Watkins Jr.) who clocked the third-fastest indoor time in school history with a time of 3:05.82 to finish second in the event.
Jeremiah Davis continued his phenomenal weekend in the triple jump recording an indoor personal best mark of 16.04m. That mark puts Davis at No. 6 on FSU's all-time list for the event. Kyvon Tatham also finished sixth in the event with a mark of 15.29m.
In the men's 3000m run, Patrick Donnelly led the Noles with a time of 8:15.78 which was good enough for sixth place.
On the women's side, Caitlin Wilkey (9:55.13) and Riley Bahr (9:55.36) led the way in the women's 3000m run to finish fifth and six.
The women's 4x400m relay of Tyra Wilson, Dajaz DeFrand, Kaniya Johnson and Faith Banks finished fourth in the event with a time of 3:41.77.
In the shot put, Riley Simmons made her debut in the Garnet and Gold and finished sixth with a mark of 13.86m.
"It was a really good productive day for our team. Obviously, the highlight of the day was the men's 4x400m relay who put together a really good time to start the season. We had a lot of personal bests across the board, we can't to see the improvement throughout the year," Head Coach Bob Braman said.

May 11, 2023
RALEIGH, N.C. - Florida State's entries at the ACC Outdoor Track & Field Championships held at NC State positioned themselves nearly perfectly on an opening day that featured mostly preliminary events.
Amir Willis blistered the Wolfpack track to win the preliminary heats of the men's 200 meters with a time of 20.46. He will be joined in the finals by teammate Ismael Kone who placed seventh overall with a time of 20.94. 2023 ACC Indoor Performer of the Year Jeremiah Davis emerged from the men's long jump preliminary flights as the favorite with a field-leading 7.94 meter leap. Teammate Curtis Williams will also compete in the finals having finished sixth with a leap of 7.50 meters.
Dajaz DeFrand's time of 23.11 in the women's 200 meters was second best among the preliminary heats putting her into the finals as one of the favorites. Kaniya Johnson was 19th in the event with a time of 24.26.
Alyson Churchill is also in contention for a conference championship finishing second in the preliminary of the 1500 meters with an outstanding time of 14:15.08. Yasmine Abbes finished in 4:21.66 and was 15th in the field.
James Rivera blew away his heat of the men's 400 meter hurdles and his time of 51.16 is third best among the qualifiers for the ACC finals.
FSU had a trio of women finish among the ACC's top 18 in the preliminary heats of the 400 meter hurdles. Tyra Wilson led the Seminoles with a 10th place finish with a time of 59.51. Ava Klein was 11th in 59.71 and Makiya Spencer was 18th in 1:01.34.

RALEIGH, N.C. - Florida State's men's and women's teams find themselves in the same eighth place in the team standings going into the final day of the 2023 ACC Outdoor Track & Field Championships being held on NC State's campus.
The finals are set in virtually every event with a handful having finished today and two Seminoles earned visits to the podium with top-three finishes on Friday.
Amani Heaven finished second in the women's shot put with her personal best career throw of 16.98 meters. Caisa-Marie Lindfors finished ninth with a best toss of 15.99 meters.
Jeremiah Davis' top leap in the men's triple jump was measured at 16.08 meters good for third place in the ACC. Kayvon Tatham finished seventh with a jump of 15.20 meters.
Alexandra Webster will be in contention for the ACC Championship in the women's 110 meter hurdles after qualifying with the best time in the field at 13.30. Faith Banks did not reach the finals of the women's 400 meter after finishing 10th in the preliminaries with a time of 53.26.
A pair of Seminoles finished just one spot away from the podium with Stella Weinberg finishing fourth in the women's javelin with a top throw of 48.56 and Kayla Pickard who was fourth in the women's triple jump at 12.72.
Milton Ingraham was fifth in the men's shot put with a top throw of 17.49.
Suus Altorf's time of 2:07.63 in the women's 800 meters put her in 14th place, while Joab Francis and Winston Quinn were clocked at 1:52.04 and 1:52.89, respectively, in the men's 800 meters.
Ella Madson finished 12th in the ACC in the heptathlon on Friday with 4,773 points. She was 12th in each of the three events (long jump, javelin, 800 meters) on Friday.
RALEIGH, N.C. - The ACC Outdoor Track & Field Championships came down to the final race to determine both the men's and women's champions.
Florida State's men held the slimmest of leads over Clemson with only the 4x—400 relay left. Unfortunately, Head Coach Bob Braman wouldn't have his normal relay team as injuries suffered during the championship to three of the stalwarts meant FSU's final race would have just one experienced member on the team.
FSU fought, just as they had the entire meet on both the men's and women's side, but the fourth place relay finish was not good enough to hold onto the championship trophy and the men finished as ACC runners-up by a single point.
The Seminole women also had an outstanding conference championship finishing fourth.
"It was just a tremendous ACC Championship, one of the best ever," said Braman. "I am so proud of both our teams. We fought so hard and overcame some really tough breaks with the injuries, but I can't say enough about how our teams performed.
"So many close races and we competed just as hard as we could. We had lifetime bests, won so many events and the meet was just back and forth all day. I'm really pleased with how we answered and we were close to winning it on the men's side."
FSU won six events on Saturday led by freshman Dajaz DeFrand who won the women's 100 meters in 11.18 and the 200 meters in 22.67. Alexandra Webster won the ACC Championship in the women's 100 meter hurdles. Amir Willis is the men's 100 meter champion at 10.08 and the Seminoles swept the discus with Milton Ingraham winning the men's with a throw of 62.13 and Caisa-Marie Lindfors the women's championship at 60.80 meters.
Both the men's and women's 4x—100 relay teams took home silver with the men crossing the finish line in 38.74 and the women at 43.91.
James Rivera ran a personal best 49.98 in the men's 400 meter hurdles and took home the silver medal.
Women's distance runner Alyson Churchill had an outstanding three days at the ACC Championships including a fourth place finish in the 1500 meters with a time of 4:16.98 on Saturday.
Willis' win in the 100 meters was pivotal and Ismael Kone's third place finish (10.15) along with Taylor Banks' sixth place in 10.19 made it one of the highest-scoring events for the Seminoles.
Willis and Kone continued to put up points for FSU with Willis coming in third in the men's 200 meters with a time of 20.41 and Kone checking in at sixth in 2006.
David Mullarkey finished fifth with a time of 13:53.36 in the men's 5000 meters. Patrick Donnelly finished in 15:07.26 and Coleman Crank in 15:21.23.
Riley Bahr was 29th in the women's 5000 meters with a time of 17:30.22.
Adding to Florida State's outstanding showing was Jacob Hoeffner's 10th-place finish in the men's discus with a throw of 49.16, and Amani Heaven's eighth place finish in the women's discus at 50.36 meters.
DaeQwan Butler's 400 meter race in which he finished sixth with a time of 1:05.67 proved costly as he was one of the three unable to compete on the meet-closing 4x—400 relay.
Clemson won the men's championship with 92 points to FSU's 91. Duke won the ACC on the women's side with 145.5 points. Virginia Tech was second with 84.5, Miami third with 83 and FSU fourth with 78.
Dajaz DeFrand earned the Women's Track Championship MVP and Jeremiah Davis was awarded the Men's Field Championship MVP.

May 26, 2023
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - The Florida State women's track and field team began competing at the 2023 NCAA East Regional Championships at Hodges Stadium on Thursday.
The Seminoles started the day with a big performance from Stella Weinberg in the women's javelin, where she qualified for the NCAA Championships, which will be held in Austin, Texas, June 7-10.
On her third and final attempt, she threw a personal best of 51.16 to finish in sixth place, improving on her 19th-place seed (49.35m). Weinberg's mark of 51.16 now ranks sixth in FSU history.
Florida State will have three athletes competing in quarterfinal events on Saturday, where the top 12 in each event will join Weinberg at the NCAA Championships.
Dajaz DeFrand advanced in the 100m, after finishing 12th at 11.22. She later placed 16th in the 200m with a time of 23.01.

successful crew."

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - The No. 14 Florida State men's track and field team finished the 2023 NCAA East Regional Championships by adding seven more bids to the NCAA Championships that will be held in Austin, Texas from June 7-10.

"The men had a great night," FSU head coach Bob Braman said. "We competed as hard as we have all season."
Ingraham started the day with a strong performance in the discus, finishing with a mark of 59.76m on his third attempt for third place.
