FSU Opens Season With 6-1 Victory.
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - The Florida State women's tennis team defeated FGCU 6-1 to win its season opener Friday afternoon.
"It's always great to start with a win," head coach Jennifer Hyde said. "We hadn't played in a few weeks since the fall season wound down, so we needed to get out and play some tennis. We got a good push today from FGCU. They did a great job of pushing us in a lot of spots, which was exactly what we needed, and we responded well. We have the first check in the win column under our belts."
Florida State took an early 1-0 lead by sweeping the doubles point. Kianah Motosono and Ellie Schoppe had a dominating 6-0 victory at No. 2. Millie Bissett and Olympe Lancelot earned a 6-4 win at No. 3 and Anna Arkadianou and Vic Allen completed the sweep with a 6-3 final at No. 1.
Schoppe and Allen quickly extended the lead to 3-0 with straight-set wins at No. 5 and No. 4, respectively. Schoppe claimed a 6-0, 6-4 victory while Allen won 6-0, 7-5 to bring the Seminoles to the brink of clinching the match. Senior Mila Saric gained the deciding point with a 6-0, 7-6 (6) win at No. 2.
"I liked how we jumped out to three quick 6-0, really relentless first sets in singles," Hyde said. "We were persistent, which was really good. That was nice to see. Getting the doubles point with some big leads was really important. We played some new partnerships trying to figure out our lineup, and it was nice to see all of them get a win today. It's important right now to build confidence."
Arkadianou extended the team's lead with a 6-3, 7-5 win at No. 1. She was followed by redshirt sophomore Alice Amendola who claimed another win for the Noles by finishing off a 7-6 (4), 6-3 win at No. 6.

Seminoles Secure Sunday Sweep.
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - The Florida State women's tennis team swept both of its matches Sunday afternoon at the FSU Indoor Tennis Facility, defeating Mercer 7-0 and FAMU 4-0.
"It was great to get all 10 of the players on our roster competing today," head coach Jen Hyde said. "It was really good to get everyone out there continuing to break up the cobwebs. Walking away with two wins in a day is always a good thing. Going into next weekend 3-0 was important, that was something we needed to do, and the girls did a fabulous job of taking care of the work, every single one of them."
Florida State swept doubles for a fast start against Mercer. At No. 1, Anna Arkadianou and Vic Allen posted a dominating 6-1 win before Ellie Schoppe and Kianah Motosono finished off their match by the same score to clinch the doubles point. Mila Saric and Alice Amendola completed the sweep with a 6-2 win at No. 3.
Allen earned the first singles point by putting together an efficient 6-0, 6-1 victory at No. 2. Freshman Kristyna Lavickova claimed her first collegiate dual-match victory with a 6-0, 6-2 win at No. 6, and Schoppe clinched the match for the Seminoles by completing a 6-2, 6-0 win at No. 4.
Freshman Millie Bissett extended the lead further with her 6-4, 6-1 win at No. 5. Saric then won 6-3, 7-5 at No. 1 and Olympe Lancelot completed a 6-3, 7-5 win at No. 3 to finish off the sweep.
"We talked about having complete mental performances in singles and doubles, and they did that across the board today," Hyde said. "We grew from Friday, and that's what we were looking for. When you play indoors, you hear everything differently. The noises are different, the speeds are different, but they adjusted well and it was a non-issue."
Against FAMU, the Seminoles took the doubles point again. Alice Amendola and Mila Saric won 6-1 at No. 2 and, just seconds later, Cade Cricchio and Lavickova finished off a 6-1 victory at No. 3 to give FSU an early advantage.
Allen again claimed a quick win in singles, earning a 6-0, 6-0 sweep at No. 2 to give FSU a 2-0 lead in the team scoring. Almost immediately after Allen's win, Cricchio completed a 6-0, 6-0 of her own at No. 6 and brought the Seminoles to the edge of victory. Schoppe finished off the match with a 6-1, 6-1 victory at No. 3. Amendola held a 6-2, 5-1 lead at No. 5 and Lancelot was up 6-3, 3-0 at No. 4 when the competition ended.

Seminoles Defeat North Florida 4-3.
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - The Florida State women's tennis team earned a 4-3 win over North Florida on Sunday at Scott Speicher Memorial Tennis Center.
"You have to find a way to win, even not feeling good and not striking the way we're capable of striking," head coach Jen Hyde said. "That's tennis, you've got to find a way to win. You are going to have five days where you can beat anybody and the rest you're going to have to work to win, and we did that today. It was not easy. UNF came in and they wanted to win, and they pushed our backs against the wall."
Florida State swept doubles to get off to a fast start against North Florida. Sophomore Olympe Lancelot and freshman Millie Bissett dominated Court No. 3, winning 6-0 and putting FSU in position to win the doubles point. Ellie Schoppe and Kianah Motosono clinched the doubles point for the Seminoles following their 6-3 win on Court No. 2.
Freshman Kristyna Lavickova doubled the Noles lead after her straight-sets victory 6-4, 6-3 on Court No. 5 gave Florida State the first singles point of the match.
Senior Vic Allen's 6-1, 7-5 straight-sets victory put Florida State ahead 3-0 in the match. Allen trailed 5-1 in the second set before winning six straight games to clinch the third point for the Seminoles.
"Vic is nails," Hyde said. "She is down sometimes but never out. That was a huge momentum swing down the courts as Vic went from 1-5 down to 2-5 down and then tying it at 5-all, we were confident she could finish it. That was critical. That moment was huge for the momentum in the match. She took a big responsibility today on her shoulders and did a great job finishing."
Wins by 107th-ranked Kit Gulihur and Annabelle Davis extended the match and cut the Noles lead to 3-2, but Florida State would only require a victory on one of two remaining courts to get the win.
Alice Amendola's 6-3, 7-5 win on Court No. 6 sealed the win for the Seminoles. Amendola fell behind 3-0 early in set two before tying the set 3-3. Amendola found herself defending set point at 4-5 before storming back, winning three straight games, the set and the match for Florida State 7-5.
"She is total nails," Hyde said. "It was so great that she gets an opportunity down there on Court 6 to get the fourth point on the board. She's one of the tougher people you'll find on the tennis court. She's a tough out and she's got a lot of resolve and she stays as good as anyone in the business."
