Women's Tennis: Hule Earns All-American Honors. June 6, 2022 by Chuck Walsh TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - Petra Hule, who has already been announced as
the ITA Southeast Regional Senior of the Year, has been named an All-American for the 2022 season by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association. Hule completed her senior campaign as the No. 3 seed in the
NCAA Singles Tournament and ranked No. 7 in the final ITA ranking of the year. The honor of earning the All-American title from the ITA is bestowed on student-athletes that earn a top 16 seed in
the NCAA singles championship, advance to the round of 16 at the NCAA Championship, or finish in the top 20 of the final ITA singles rankings. Hule is just the third two-time All-American (and
first since 1996) in Florida State history. She has now earned All-American honors in doubles (in 2020) and in singles (in 2022). Hule joins Audra Brannon (1993, doubles; 1994 singles) and Lori Sowell
(1995 and 1996 singles) as the only players in Seminole history to earn All-America honors multiple times during their careers. Hule led the Seminoles to the NCAA Championship for the fourth time
in her five-year career in 2022. Florida State reached the Round of 32 with a victory over FIU in the first round of the NCAA Championships. Hule helped the Seminoles to two Elite 8 appearances (2019
and 2022) during her career. "I'm truly honored to have two All-American titles next to my name as my time at FSI closes out," said Hule. "I'm lucky to share one of those with Vic (Allen)." Hule
finished her senior season with a 28-8 record - a slate that includes a 22-2 record during the spring season. Her 22 wins playing on court one during the spring set the school record for a Seminole in
the No. 1 position, while her 28 wins for the year are tied for the ninth highest single-year total in school history. Hule's 22 wins as a senior bring her career total to 96 career singles victories
- the seventh-highest total in school history. Hule is the second winningest player in school history with 202 combined victories - 106 in doubles and 96 in singles. Her 106 doubles wins are tied
for the most in school history. Her 202 combined wins makes her one of only two people in school history (Andrew Garcia, 206 wins, 2017-21) to have earned 200 or more victories as a Seminole. "The
much deserved recognitions for Petra keep coming," said Head Coach Jen Hyde. "Becoming the first two-time All-America honoree since 1996 is very telling of the career she has had at Florida State. She
has earned All-America honors in both doubles and singles in her career at FSU, only the 2nd player in program history to do so. Besides winning an individual National Championship, earning
All-America honors falls second on the list of the highest level of accolade a college tennis player can achieve, and Petra has done just that, again. She has proven herself to be among the best of
the best in college tennis. I'm incredibly proud of Pep and everything she has accomplished." June 9, 2022 by
Chuck Walsh TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - Florida State's All-American Petra Hule has been named to the All-ACC First-Team in a vote by the league 14 head coaches. "Being an All-ACC First-Team selection
is quite an accomplishment," said Head Coach Jen Hyde. "We are in the best tennis conference in the nation, and to be a first team selection speaks volumes about the extraordinary season Petra just
had." Hule led the Seminoles to the Round of 32 in the NCAA Championships - marking the fourth consecutive tournament appearance for Hyde's Florida State program. The Seminoles defeated FIU in the
first round of the NCAA Championships, marking the fifth consecutive NCAA Championship in which the Seminoles have won at least one match. Hule, who completed her career as the second-winningest
player in school history, was ranked No. 7 nationally in the final ITA singles rankings of the 2020-22 season. She ranked as high as No. 3 nationally in singles (May 4) and was the No. 3 seed in the
NCAA Singles Championship. Hule's her No. 3 ranking is the highest in school history - she began the fall season ranked No. 125 nationally and played her way up the rankings throughout the season.

SAN DIEGO, Calif. - The 15th-ranked Seminole women's tennis team completed play Sunday at the Torero Tennis Classic hosted by the University of San Diego. The Seminoles recorded eight wins between singles and doubles play while facing competition from Stanford, Ole Miss, Texas Tech and Kansas.
"It was great to get back on court this weekend," said FSU Head Coach Jen Hyde. "We also really enjoyed getting to see our new Noles perform. A trip like this is just what we need to get valuable information about what the team needs to work on at this point. We are looking forward to some great practices before kicking off our home slate this coming weekend."
Florida State entered the tournament with half the players that traveled in their first year with the program. After losing four starters, figuring out pairings for doubles was one of the goals of the opening weekend. Last season, Hyde's Seminoles posted a 52-26 record in doubles play, good for a .667 win percentage. After one weekend, the Seminoles have a better idea of what those doubles teams will look like entering dual match play next week.
FSU posted a 5-1 mark in doubles competition in San Diego. Petra Hule joined with transfer Lesedi Jacobs to post a 2-0 record. Freshman Olympe Lancelot and senior transfer Kianah Motosono posted a 2-0 mark as well. Victoria Allen and Anna Arkadianou split their two doubles matches.
In singles, Arkadianou, Jacobs and Motosono all recorded a win.

No. 15 Women's Tennis Wins Two Sunday Matches.
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - The 15th-ranked FSU women's tennis team opened its dual match season at home Sunday with a doubleheader. The Noles started the day with a 4-3 win over Mercer and wrapped things up with a 5-1 victory over McNeese State. FSU played with just two doubles teams and four singles players in both matches due to limited availabilities.
Despite being shorthanded, FSU dropped just one point in play in picking up the first two dual match wins of the year. FSU's 22nd-ranked singles player Petra Hule posted four wins Sunday while Anna Arkadianou posted three wins of her own.
"Playing short-handed is never easy but our girls just really rose to the challenge," said FSU Head Coach Jen Hyde. "As we hoped, we got better and better as the day went on. We had a really dominant day, especially in the second match. We want to keep seeing the level rise as we head into a really competitive ITA Kick-Off national qualifier next weekend.
"As a bonus today, it was really fun to see some familiar faces on the other coaching staffs as well, welcoming back some Seminoles to Tallahassee."
No. 15 Florida State 4, Mercer 3
Florida State took the doubles point as Jacobs and Motosono came off first. The two newcomers combined for the 6-4 win. The veteran pair of Hule and Arkadianou won their first set point in a dual match this season with a 6-3 victory.
In singles, the Noles climbed right back into the match on courts three and four after two singles forfeits. Arkadianou was first off with an impressive 6-0, 6-0 win to even the overall score at 2-2. Motosono put the Seminoles back in front 3-2 with her 6-0, 6-0 win. Hule clinched the victory as she won on court one 6-3, 6-0.
"It's never easy to start a match with an 0-2 deficit before you even strike a ball, but that circumstance was in the cards for us today," said Hyde. "I'm proud of the team because they weren't fazed by that fact, and just took care of their courts and of that challenge today. They all had a no-excuses mentality. Just as in life, tennis will also throw you challenges along the way, and having that mindset can take teams a long way in the challenges that come along in a season of play.
No. 15 Florida State 5, McNeese State 1
With numbers limited, doubles was a rare two-point format. Hule and Arkadianou gave FSU a 1-0 lead with a 6-1 victory. Vic Allen and Kianah Motosono followed shortly after with a 6-0 win to send FSU into singles with a 2-1 lead.
After FSU forfeited a point on court five, the Seminoles went on to win the first two decisions in singles play to clinch the win. Hule, Arkadianou and Lesedi Jacobs secured the win for the Seminoles as each won their singles matches to give FSU the 5-1 win.
"We will enjoy the wins, and enjoy starting the spring season off right, but the focus will quickly turn to preparing this week for our next matchup on Saturday against Illinois here at home."

No. 18 Women Advances At ITA Weekend Kickoff Regional.
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - The 18th-ranked FSU women's tennis advanced to the winner's bracket at the ITA Kickoff Weekend regional in Tallahassee Saturday afternoon. The Seminoles defeated Illinois 4-3 and will now face the winner of No. 19 Florida and FIU Sunday at 2:00 p.m. The win moved FSU to a perfect 3-0 on the season.
Starting down 1-0 in doubles for the third straight dual match due to player availability, FSU once again did what it needed to do to take the point and jump out to a 1-0 lead. Vic Allen and Kianah Motosono came off first on court two with a 6-2 victory. With the score even, it was up to Petra Hule and Lesedi Jacobs to put the Noles in the lead and the pair did just that improving to 3-0 as a team with a 6-4 win on court one to take the point.
"The team did such a mature job in doubles to start the match and came out on fire," said FSU Head Coach Jen Hyde. "We got some big leads on courts one and two and to have to forfeit three is an added pressure but they handled it really well again. Being able to get it back to 1-1 heading into singles was critical."
FSU entered singles tied at 1-1 after having to give up a point at line six. Hule came off first putting the Seminoles up 2-0. The 6-4, 7-5 win moved the senior to 3-0 in duals this season. Allen moved FSU to within a point of the win as she won in straight sets on court four 7-6 (8-6), 7-5. Illinois then pushed FSU to third sets on the last three courts and eventually evened the match at 3-3 but senior transfer Kianah Motosono recorded the walk-off win taking her match 7-5, 4-6, 6-3.
"We had some stellar performances from a couple today and some other performances we have to get better but what's great is we get to come back out tomorrow and work on that," said Hyde. "The fight was good given where we are in the season. We have to continue to grow, we have to continue to get better, we have to continue to take advantage of the opportunities we have and we will. It's just a matter of hitting our stride and we're getting there slowly. This is a heck of a start against a really good and competitive Illinois team.
"We said at the end of the week there will be no excuses. No matter how many we have, we have the group to get it done. Kudos to Vic for stepping in after just getting notice she was going to play singles last night. She stepped up and took care of things in two sets. It was a tremendous effort on her part. Petra was solid at the one spot. She went through some demons in the second set and was so poised and mature when it mattered most and Kianah at the bottom. Both girls were getting after it and cramping as she was just a little bit tougher today. That made a huge difference and it's great that she was able to get her first clinch as a Nole."

No. 18 Women's Tennis Drops First Match Of 2022.
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - For the first time this season, the 18th-ranked FSU women's tennis team dropped a match. The Seminoles, who started the year 3-0, fell in the winner's bracket of the ITA Kickoff Weekend regional to No. 19 Florida 4-0. The loss snapped FSU's four-match winning streak in the series.
"Hats off to UF," said FSU Head Coach Jen Hyde. "They were a bit better than us today. We have some good things to work on in practice this week that we can take from our matches today."
Starting down 1-0 in doubles due to player availability, Petra Hule and Lesedi Jacobs evened things up with a 6-3 win. Vic Allen and Anna Arkadianou were tied 5-5 in their doubles match but were unable to hold on falling 5-7 and putting FSU in the 1-0 hole.
With a forfeit on court 6, the Gators entered singles with a 2-0 lead needing to win just two of the five singles matches to secure the victory. The Gators were able to win those two points on courts three and four to get the victory.
The Seminoles are back in action Wednesday for a midweek tilt versus Florida A&M. The match, which was originally scheduled as a doubleheader, will take place at 4:30 p.m. at the Scott Speicher Memorial Tennis Center.
"We get a chance to play FAMU this Wednesday at 4:30 here at home, as well as prepare for a rematch with UF in less than a week down at the USTA Tennis Center in Orlando," said Hyde. "We can't wait for another shot in the best environment college tennis has to offer next Saturday night."

No. 20 Women's Tennis Comes Up Just Short Versus Georgia Tech.
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - The 20th-ranked FSU women's tennis team staged a valiant come-from-behind effort Sunday afternoon. The Seminoles (6-3, 1-1) fell behind No. 47 Georgia Tech 3-0 before fighting back to even the match at 3-3. The decisive point went to a third set but FSU was unable to complete the comeback falling 4-3.
"That was a heck of a dogfight of a college tennis match today," said FSU Head Coach Jen Hyde. "We are abundantly proud of how hard our squad fought and literally came up one point short today. Those types of matches are sometimes really hard to swallow but we know we were right there and put ourselves in position to win. We are so proud of how we battled until the end today. We came up just shy of a win but the progress is definitely there across the board. The effort and the fight we saw was excellent."
Taking on two doubles teams in the top 20 proved was a tall task for the Seminoles who dropped the opening point for just the third time in nine matches. The Yellow Jackets No. 16 and No. 18 doubles teams won on courts one and two with the pairing of Olympe Lancelot and Anna Arkadianou winning on court three.
Once singles got underway, the Yellow Jackets took court two to go up 2-0 and then court three for a 3-0 advantage. Kianah Motosono put the Seminoles on the board taking her match on court six 6-4, 6-2. As she has done all season, Petra Hule recorded another point on court one. The Seminoles' top line singles player moved to 8-0 in duals recording her second-ranked win beating the nation's 72nd-ranked player 6-4, 6-4.
Olympe Lancelot got the Seminoles all the way back evening the match at 3-3 with a 7-5, 7-6 (8-6) win on court five. That set the stage for a decisive court four battle that went to three sets but in favor of Georgia Tech.
"We have to reset quickly," said Hyde. "We hit the road next weekend to continue ACC play. It is going to be a challenge all semester because our conference is one of the best in the country. We are looking forward to resting up and getting back to work. We will put it all on the line again next weekend."

Hule Records Sixth Straight Ranked Win.
CORAL GABLES, Fla. - The FSU women's tennis team continued its three-week road trip facing its fourth straight ranked opponent and third straight opponent ranked in the top 20. Friday afternoon the Noles were in Coral Gables where they came up short versus No. 12 Miami 6-1. Petra Hule, the nation's 16th-ranked singles player, recorded her sixth-straight ranked victory in singles for the Noles.
"It is really tough to come out in a competition already starting with a huge deficit," said FSU Head Coach Jen Hyde. "We are playing through these injuries to get people healthy. The girls are doing an incredible job of battling right now. It's not coming at this second for everybody but you can get a feel and a sense things are coming for this team. It's taken a minute due to the injuries and everything we are playing through but that's what the season gives us sometimes. We have to stay tough and keep pumping.
"Credit to Miami they were a little better in really challenging windy conditions today. We had our chances. It was a really good match that we were in from the start to the finish, doubles and singles even with the big deficit we faced going into the match. I'm proud of the team and the fight we showed today. Big things are ahead for this team. We have to take this one and keep working to get a full lineup put together. In the meantime we have to keep pushing and that's the name of the game at this point. With the deficits we have entering these matches the challenges are bolder and bigger that we face but the girls did a great job staying in that match."
With injuries once again forcing the Seminoles to play short-handed, FSU was unable to upset either of the two ranked doubles teams they faced after starting out down 0-1 although Petra Hule and Anna Arkadianou came close. On court one, the FSU pair fell just shy of defeating the nation's No. 16 pair falling 4-6.
Facing a 0-2 deficit heading into singles, the Seminoles faced ranked opponents on courts 1-3. On court one, Hule continued her dominance. The Australian downed the nation's No. 58 singles player 6-4, 7-5 recording her fourth top 60 win of the season. On court two, Vic Allen almost pulled off the second ranked win on the day for FSU falling in a third-set tiebreaker.
"Another great performance by Pep taking down yet another ranked player on court one," said Jen Hyde. "She has been as good as we could have hoped in that top spot in the lineup and we are excited about the way she is playing and competing."

Allen Secures Ranked Win vs. Virginia.
CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. - The Florida State women's tennis team (7-7, 1-5 ACC) fell to No. 11 Virginia, 6-1 at the Virginia Tennis Facility on Friday.
Vic Allen secured her first ranked win of the season while playing on court two, defeating No. 26 Natasha Subhash 4-6, 6-2, 1-0 (11-9).
"Hats off to Virginia," FSU head coach Jennifer Hyde said. "They jumped on us quickly in doubles and we couldn't recover. I thought we bounced back and competed very well in singles, highlighted by a fantastic win over the No. 26 player in the nation by Vic."
After Virginia won the doubles point, the Seminoles surrendered another due to only fielding five players because of injury.
No. 16 Petra Hule put her 12-match win streak to the test against the fifth-best player in the nation on court one. Despite a tough match, Hule fell 3-6, 2-6.
Virginia clinched after Kianah Motosono dropped her match on court four, 2-6, 2-6.
Allen faced a 4-6 loss in the first set, but she battled back to secure her seventh win of the season and third while playing on court two.
"A week ago, Vic was in a similar situation and fell a little short," Hyde said. "It was so rewarding for her today to be in the same position and execute and get the win. It was a hard-earned win against a very good ACC opponent."
Anna Arkadianou was the other Seminole that forced her match to a third set. Facing her second nationally-ranked opponent of the year, Arkadianou dropped her first set 2-6, but stormed back and made quick work in the second, taking it 6-1. However, she lost the third, 3-6.
Olympe Lancelot battled and took her first set to a tiebreaker but fell short 6-7 (7-1), 2-6.

Women's Tennis Grinds Out Road Win.
BLACKSBURG, Va. - The Florida State women's tennis team (8-7, 2-5 ACC) earned a hard-fought 4-3 victory over Virginia Tech on the road on Sunday.
"I was really proud with how we dug our heels in today," FSU head coach Jennifer Hyde said. "Getting a road win in the ACC is never easy, even more so when some injuries are keeping our lineup from being full. That was a hard-earned win against a feisty ACC team, and we definitely got better today and over the weekend as a whole."
The Seminoles earned the doubles point thanks to two 7-5 winning matches on courts one and two.
After court three suffered a 3-6 loss, Petra Hule and Anna Arkadianou outlasted Katie Andreini and Annie Clark on court one, 7-5.
With all eyes on court two, Vic Allen and Kinah Motosono scored a big break at 5-5 after climbing out of a 0-3 hole early. Up 6-5, Allen served out the match to secure the crucial doubles point.
The Hokies tied it after the Seminoles could not field a player on court six due to injury.
"We got off to a slow start in doubles, but found our way back at one and two," Hyde said. "Being down 0-1 before the match even starts certainly gives that doubles point another degree of importance and we did well to fight for it and take it. We worked really hard for it, and it was an added boost heading into singles."
In singles, 16th-ranked Hule controlled her match on court one, winning 6-0, 7-5 to put FSU up 2-1.
After falling 4-6 in the first set on court two, Allen bounced back to take the second and third sets, 6-2, 6-3, making it 3-1.
Arkadianou dropped her second set 3-6 after cruising to a 6-0 win in the first. Up 3-2 with the potential match-clinching point on the line, Arkadianou controlled the set and finished with a 6-3 win in the third to seal the victory for the Noles.
On court four, Motosono won the first set in a tiebreak 7-6 (7-1) but fell 3-6 in the second and 4-6 in the third.
Lancelot also grinded out a 7-6 (7-1) win in the first, dropped her final two sets 1-6, 2-6.
"We jumped out to some first set leads on most courts," Hyde said. "But, VT fought their way back in a few spots. The top did a great job of stepping up play as the matches got deeper and executing very well on some big points."

The victory for Florida State marks the second time in two seasons the Seminoles have defeated a top-10 ranked team at home. The Seminoles defeated No. 8 Virginia, 4-3, at Speicher on April 2, 2021.
"That was a Herculean effort by the Noles today to knock off the No. 10 team in the nation," said Seminole Head Coach Jen Hyde. "We had to pull our No. 2 singles player after doubles; we had to forfeit No. 6 singles, and really had our backs against the wall. Nevertheless, the girls were unfazed by the deficit as we headed out to singles. That is not easy to do, especially against such a storied and proven program like Duke."
After winning the doubles point with victories by the teams of Hule and Anna Arkadianou and Lesedi Jacobs and Olympe Lancelot, the shorthanded Seminoles went to work during the single matches.
Because of an injury to senior Vic Allen, the Seminoles quickly switched their lineup, a switch that meant having to forfeit the singles match on court six.
Florida State gained then necessary three wins in singles matches by Hule (over Drummy), by Arkadianou (over Kelly Chen with scores of 6-2, 6-3) and by Kianah Motosono (over Margaryta Bilokin with scores of 6-1, 6-3).
Hule, who is ranked No. 15 in the ITA national rankings, has now won 10 of her 11 singles matches this spring. Her victory in the Seminoles' victory over Duke came against the No. 20 ranked player in the nation.
"Sport has a funny way of letting you have some incredible moments if you pay attention, and our Noles went and created one for themselves," said Hyde. "It was an absolute team effort today, with no excuses to be had."

Hule, Arkadianou Earn Singles Wins In Loss To No. 1 UNC.
March 27, 2022
by Stephen Stone
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - Florida State Women's Tennis student-athletes Petra Hule and Anna Arkadianou shined on Sunday afternoon in the Seminoles' 5-2 loss to top-ranked North Carolina at the Scott Speicher Memorial Tennis Center.
Senior and 15th-ranked Hule continued her torrid play by defeating 12th-ranked Cameron Morra, 6-1, 6-4. In singles matches, the native of Adelaide, Australia, has won 11 of her 12 matches in the spring.
"Another weekend in the ACC against two top 10 foes. We had some bigtime performances over the weekend from everyone, highlighted by Petra and Anna beating four nationally ranked players, Kianah having a season best performance against Duke, and Olympe teaming with Lesedi for a huge doubles win on Friday to clinch a much needed doubles point."
We continue to get better each time out, regardless of the deficits we have in numbers. We raised the level of how we compete again this weekend, and know that that level is required down the stretch of our last three weeks of regular season matches. These Noles are fighting hard, and progressing.
After a dominant first set, Hule had to fend off Morra in the second set but was able to pull out another victory. The win comes on top of defeating 20th-ranked Georgia Drummy of Duke in straight sets on Friday, securing a strong weekend for Hule.
Overall, Hule is now 15-1 in singles matches.
Arkadianou played one of the best matches of her young career as she picked up a hard-fought victory over 10th-ranked Reilly Tran in three sets (7-5, 5-7, 14-12). Both players showed their durability and stamina in the tie-breaking third set. Arkadianou proved to be tough-minded as well, giving up a 4-2 advantage in the second frame but managing to bounce back and earn a Top 10 win.
Arkadianou, who hails from Athens, Greece, also went 2-0 in singles play over the weekend against the ACC's two Tobacco Road programs. The momentum-building wins move her up to 8-7 overall this season. On Friday, she defeated Duke's Kelly Chen, 6-2, 6-3.
The Seminoles were forced to forfeit one match in doubles play as well as the fifth and sixth singles matches. The singles forfeits gave the Tar Heels an automatic two points, meaning FSU needed to win all four singles matches.
FSU fell in both doubles matches against the Tar Heels to give UNC the lone doubles point. The Tar Heels split the four singles matches, winning on courts three and four with No. 34 Fiona Crawley (6-2, 6-1) and Anika Yarlagadda (6-3, 6-3) to secure the win.
"We continue to get better each time out, regardless of the deficits we have in numbers," said Hyde. "We raised the level of how we compete again this weekend, and we know that that level is required down the stretch of our last three weeks of regular season matches. These Noles are fighting hard, and progressing."

Women's Tennis Moves On To NCAA Second Round.
GAINESVILLE, Fla. - Freshman Olympe Lancelot's three-set victory over FIU's Ines Bekrar clinched the Florida State Women's Tennis Team's hard-fought 4-2 win over the 42nd-ranked Panthers on Saturday afternoon at the NCAA First Round in Gainesville, Fla.
A double fault by Bekrar ended the match as the Seminoles (15-10) had to work feverishly to get past a talented and tough Panthers (17-5) squad.
"We found four points today, and once again, it did not come easy; it hasn't all year," FSU Head Coach Jen Hyde said. "The conditions were very challenging, with some gusty and swirling winds, but we managed that challenge very well today.
"Big kudos to our freshie Olympe for taking advantage of the opportunity to finish and get a clinch in the postseason," Hyde added. "She was poised under pressure, and we are so happy for her to have and get that moment today."
