Women's Tennis Wraps Up Day One At The Seminole Invitational.
January 22, 2021
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - The 2021 FSU women's tennis season started off with a big upset this morning and wrapped up with the Noles securing five wins in singles and three wins in doubles on the first day of the Seminole Invitational Tournament. Nandini Das and Andrea Garcia picked up the biggest victory of the day as the pair kicked off the tournament with a 6-2 upset of the nation's 10th-ranked doubles team.
"They have played together for so many years and there is a comfort there," said FSU Head Coach Jen Hyde of Das and Garcia. "They kind of read each other's minds so it's not a surprise they can step up and play so well so early. We are super happy and proud of them for that effort today and knocking off a really good opponent."
Newcomer and 27th-ranked singles player Giulia Pairone made an impressive debut for FSU Friday. The Italian breezed through her first match as a Seminole defeating Clemson's Eleni Louka 6-3, 6-0. Das, fresh off her doubles upset, also won her first singles match of the year in impressive fashion beating Clemson's Sophia Hatton 6-1, 6-4.
Andrea Garcia, Alice Amendola and Anna Arkadianou all picked up wins in singles as well. Garcia downed Lana Sipek of Clemson 6-4, 6-4, Amendola beat Clemson's Laura Marti 7-6, 6-0 and Arkadianou needed three sets to get by Ania Hertel of Georgia 6-4, 6-7, 6-4.
Das and Garcia weren't the only Seminoles to take doubles matches early in the day. Emmanuelle Salas and Pairone cruised 6-1 in their match and Victoria Allen and Arkadianou won 6-2.
"Overall a pretty solid day, good start to the ā21 season," said Hyde. "We hadn't seen the court in a while. I was really impressed with how we competed. I was happy with how we executed, we got our teeth into matches really quickly. In a lot of ways, we didn't skip a lot of beats.
"I felt really good about the
level we competed at today. It was just awesome to get back on the courts with this group, kind of get in the trenches with them a little bit and seeing them do what they love. It was a really good
start."
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - The ninth-ranked Seminole women's tennis team continued its impressive start to the 2021 campaign on Saturday. FSU not only posted a 10-3 mark in singles and doubles but also got a marquee win from newcomer Giulia Pairone. The Michigan transfer, currently ranked 27th in the ITA, came from a set down to beat 31st-ranked Lea Ma of Georgia.
"A huge effort from Jules today playing against a sneaky player from Georgia," said FSU Head Coach Jen Hyde. "She knew what she needed to do as far as sticking with her game and hanging around. She did a great job. She played 'big girl' tennis today, at such a high level. It's so great to see it so early from her. It's like she hasn't skipped a beat at all right now and the focus was really good. She stepped up and played the big points really big and totally trusted herself today. That's what it's going to take to get through and she did a fantastic job."
While the match between Pairone and Ma was the session's highlight, the Seminoles showed strength up and down the lineup Saturday. FSU secured singles wins from Andrea Garcia, Victoria Allen, Petra Hule and Lara Schneider as well.
FSU opened the day with another impressive showing in doubles. The Seminoles won five of their six doubles matches. Combined with Friday's results, FSU will move into the tournament's final day with an 8-2 mark in doubles and an 18-7 record overall in the tournament.
"The winning is obviously fantastic. It's the end goal. That's everyone's end goal," said Hyde. "More than that, it's getting back into the swing of production, playing points and everyone tapping into their own games. Seeing them work on the things we've been working on in practice and implementing them in play. We are seeing tremendous improvement. We've made really good strides so far and shown a lot of maturity. I am most impressed with the level of competition we are bringing to the matches. I think the results are evidence of that."
The Seminole Invitational will conclude tomorrow at the Indoor Tennis Facility. Due to COVID restrictions, fans will not be admitted. The team will then turn its focus to its first dual match of the season and the first one played outdoors with fans when USF comes to town for a 4:00 p.m. match Tuesday.
"We specifically set this tournament up to allow the team to get that confidence you need to have before you go into a dual match season," said Hyde. "Having not had the chance to
compete in the fall collegiately, it was imperative we had this opportunity and they are making the most of it. They are getting better every day we play."
January 24, 2021
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - The final day of the Seminole Invitational wrapped up Sunday with just three matches and the Seminoles finishing the tournament with an 18-10 overall record and three flight championships. Giulia Pairone won the A flight singles championship, Nandini Das and Andrea Garcia won the A flight doubles championship and Victoria Allen and Anna Arkadianou won the B flight doubles championship.
Pairone finished the tournament at 2-0 in singles, including a win over the nation's 31st-ranked player, and another two wins in doubles. No. 9 Women's Tennis Downs USF 6-1.
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - The ninth-ranked FSU women's tennis team opened its dual match season Tuesday night with an impressive 6-1 win over in-state foe USF. The Seminoles (1-0) clinched the win early by taking four singles points in straight sets. FSU's only loss came in a third-set tiebreaker.
"It was awesome to get out there and compete again, this time as a team and for the first time since March of last year," said FSU Head Coach Jen Hyde. "It was tons of fun to get a couple of our doubles teams back together against a really good USF team. It was their first match as well and it was good to see our girls get their teeth into their matches and stay there and do what they needed to do. It is just awesome to compete and see different jerseys on the other side of the net."
Victoria Allen and Petra Hule, the nation's seventh-ranked doubles team, cruised to a 6-1 win to open the game and the Seminoles clinched the first point when the No. 50 doubles pairing of Giulia Pairone and Emmanuelle Salas closed out their match by a 6-3 score. The wins moved Allen and Hule to 1-0 in doubles this year and Pairone and Salas to 2-0.
In singles, it was court five and six that staked the Seminoles to a 3-0 lead as Andrea Garcia was first off after a 6-1, 6-1 win and Alice Amendola secured the 3-0 FSU lead with a 6-2, 6-2 victory. Pairone, who came into the match ranked No. 27, secured the win by once again closing strong, taking her match 6-3, 6-0.
With the win secured, Petra Hule added to the Seminoles' margin after a furious comeback. Hule dropped the first set 6-3 but won the second 6-4 and then took the tiebreaker 10-4 to improve to 2-0 on the season. FSU's sixth and final point came from No. 92 Nandini Das who also won in straight sets, beating her opponent 6-2, 6-4.
The Seminoles will look to get outdoors for the first time this season on Saturday with a doubleheader scheduled. The women will host Old Dominion at noon and then Troy at 5:00 p.m. Attendance will be limited to 116 fans at the Scott Speicher Memorial Tennis Center.
"We have big matches coming up against Old Dominion and Troy this weekend," said Hyde. "Old Dominion is a very good team and they are going to be top 20 by the end of the season. We have some things to straighten up this week and clean up. Once we get that taken care of, we'll be excited to get right back to it Saturday."

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - After fighting to the bitter end to take the doubles point to start the match, the eighth-ranked Seminole women's tennis team cruised, taking the first four singles matches and closed out ODU early with a 5-2 win. All three of the Seminoles' (2-0) ranked singles players won in straight sets and gave FSU its second, third and game-winning fourth points.
Old Dominion (1-2) started strong in one of the day's highlight matches as the Monarchs eighth-ranked doubles team took the first doubles match from Victoria Allen and Petra Hule, who came into the game ranked No. 7 in ITA doubles. Giulia Pairone and Emmanuelle Salas cruised in their doubles match, evening things up with a 6-3 win. That set up the battle on court three. Nandini Das and Andrea Garcia were pushed to a tie-breaker but pulled out the point for FSU with a 7-6 (7-6) victory.
"Doubles definitely got interesting," said FSU Head Coach Jen Hyde. "The wind was a factor today. Being outside for both teams got a bit tricky but we did a good job of holding on to some things. We needed to make better decisions at pretty critical times but I think that is just going to come with more match play, where we are kind of in the heat of battle and you have to make the right decisions at the right times. That was one thing that kept it closer than it needed to be."
Once the Noles moved into singles, the top of the lineup jumped all over ODU. Allen, ranked 106th, finished first with a 6-1, 6-2 win. Then on court one, Pairone (#27) won the featured match of the day, taking down No. 40 Holly Hutchinson 6-1, 6-2. The Seminoles then clinched the win thanks to No. 92 Das' 6-3, 6-3 victory on court three.
"Old Dominion is a very good team. They are very talented. They've got a lot of really good ballplayers," said Hyde. "I was so impressed with how we came out and got a lot of early leads up and down the courts. After such a close doubles point, things can very quickly fall a little flat and the girls came out and really got off to good starts.
"Vic did a fantastic job down on six. (Giulia), versus a Top 40 player, got a really good lead in the first set and Dre as well. I feel when you are able to respond to a tight doubles point like that and really take command of the match, we are a hard team to beat. I was really happy with the girls. They did a fantastic job competing and stayed composed. I am really proud of them."

No. 8 Women's Tennis Notches 4th-Straight Series Win Versus No. 21 UF.
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - In the first 54 meetings in the series, the FSU women's tennis program had two wins over the University of Florida. How things have changed. Seminole Head Coach Jen Hyde led her squad to its fourth straight win versus UF and has flipped the series upside down. On Thursday night, the eighth-ranked Seminoles once again beat the Gators, this time by a 4-1 score.
The Seminoles took the doubles point and then dropped just one match before clinching the victory. It was the first win over the Gators in Tallahassee since 2015 and gave the Top 10 Seminoles their first ranked victory of the season. It also moved FSU to 3-0 and continued the streak of no current Seminole having ever lost to their rivals from Gainesville.
"It feels fantastic," said Hyde, following the win. "These rivalry matches are special. They are unique. You try not to make a big deal about them as a coach. You try to play it down like it's just another competition but there is a different feel to these types of games.
"I am so proud of these girls and the girls that have been in the program to bring us to where we are now. It is exciting to be part of a group that has now won four straight in this series. The Gators have been the standard and now that the standard has changed a little bit from our end, it is exciting. Things can change on a dime and there are no guarantees but right now we are moving in the right direction and the state of the program is pretty solid."
The Seminoles put themselves in front of their rival early, taking the doubles point 2-0. The seventh-ranked doubles pair of Victoria Allen and Petra Hule took down the Gators' 26th-ranked doubles pair 6-3. The Seminoles' veteran duo of Nandi Das and Andrea Garcia then secured the point with a 6-4 victory.
As has been the case most of the season, Allen came out fast and closed her opponent out early in singles with a 6-1, 6-2 win to put FSU up 2-0. Garcia was next off for the Seminoles, winning 6-3, 6-2 and improving her career record versus the Gators to 3-0. Garcia's victory moved FSU to within a point of the win at 3-1.
With three matches still hanging in the balance and the Gators hoping to pull out the comeback, it was Das who put the final nail in the win. Das, who came in 2-0 lifetime versus the Gators, wasn't going to let the winning point fall on anyone else's shoulders. She took the first set 6-2 and then clinched the win with a 6-4 second set victory.
"You saw that grit today. We were down in doubles at two and we got ourselves back into it, which was really good confidence for everybody," said Hyde. (Petra) got down her first set and she jumps back and gets that second set. Vic comes out, on fire again, gets another point on the board. (Andrea) is down on six doing her thing as usual.
"(Nandini) came out on fire in singles and did what she is capable of doing consistently. It's kind of epic for (Nandini) and (Andrea), who have been a part of this turn and shift in the program to where we are. I am so glad they both got wins and it was very poetic that it was (Nandini) that got the clinching win. I am glad it was her. Being able to do that in this setting, with a little added pressure from the rivalry, tells you a lot about our team."

No. 8 Women's Tennis Falls 4-3 To No. 7 Georgia.
ATHENS, Ga. - Facing a 3-0 deficit, the eighth-ranked Seminoles women's tennis team fought back to even the game with No. 7 Georgia at 3-3, with the winner coming down to court one and a battle between two Top 27 players. FSU's Giulia Pairone, ranked 27th, won a tie-breaker in set two to force the game to a third set but was unable to take down No. 16 Katrina Jokic falling 4-6, 7-6, 6-2.
Traveling to No. 7 Georgia and facing a higher-ranked opponent on courts 1-4 in singles was always going to be a tall task for the eighth-ranked FSU women's tennis team Sunday. The Bulldogs (2-1) held serve in three of the four matches where they had a rankings advantage and staved off the upset-minded Seminoles.
The loss ended FSU's three-game winning streak versus Top 25 competition and moved the Seminoles to 7-4 in their last 11 games versus ranked opponents after defeating No. 21 Florida earlier this week.
The Seminoles were unable to pull an upset in singles on courts one, two or three. No. 92 Nandini Das fell to No. 31 Lea Ma (4-6, 2-6). Petra Hule dropped her match against the nation's 60th-ranked singles player (0-6, 1-6) and Pairone fell in the final match of the day on court one.
Despite falling behind 3-0, the Seminoles secured wins on court four, five and six to even the match at 3-3. Emmanuelle Salas' upset of No. 73 Morgan Coppoc 4-6, 6-3, 6-1 started the run for FSU. Victoria Allen, ranked No. 106, secured her third win in a dual with a 6-2, 6-2 win and Andrea Garcia continued to roll through the 2021 season, moving to 6-0 in 2021 and 4-0 in duals with her 7-5, 6-0 victory.
The doubles point went down to the final court just as it did in singles. Das and Garcia got FSU off to a good start finishing first on court three with a 6-3 win. The Seminoles' seventh-ranked pair of Allen and Hule fell 6-4, leaving the point to court two where No. 50 Pairone and Salas took the 37th-ranked team from Georgia to the wire before losing 7-5 with the point going to Georgia.

No. 7 Women's Tennis Opens The Weekend With 4-0 Win Over UNF.
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - The seventh-ranked FSU women's tennis team opened a three-game weekend with a convincing 4-0 victory over previously unbeaten UNF. After a highly-contested doubles point, the Seminoles rattled of three straight points in singles to close down the Osprey (3-1) and move to 4-1 on the season.
Emmanuelle Salas and Andrea Garcia started things off quickly for FSU in doubles with a 6-2 win, which moved Garcia into fifth place all alone for career victories at FSU. UNF took the point on court one 7-5, setting up Victoria Allen and Anna Arkadianou for the heroics. The pair wrestled away the final point on court 2 after winning the tiebreaker 11-9 to take the point 7-6.
Following the marathon doubles point, the singles went much more quickly. Garcia was first off with a 6-2, 6-4 win. She was followed by Petra Hule who won 6-3, 6-1. Then the Seminoles closed out UNF thanks to the nation's 27th-ranked singles player, as Giulia Pairone won 6-3, 6-4.
"It's fantastic to be out competing again," said FSU Head Coach Jen Hyde. "Any opportunity to get out and do some work between the lines is something we don't take for granted. The girls really enjoy every time we have a chance to compete. We had a bit of a crazy week and the preparation for today was not typical but the team relied on the level we have to find success today."
The women will take Saturday off before playing two matches Sunday. The Seminoles will host FAU at 10:30 and then Florida A&M at 5:30. Both matches are scheduled for the Scott Speicher Memorial Tennis Center but will likely move indoors if weather forecasts for Sunday hold true. If the games move inside, no fans will unfortunately be permitted.
"We have to get some rest," said Hyde looking forward to Sunday's doubleheader. "The chances are we will most likely be indoors. We are looking forward to the opportunity to play two schools from the state of Florida and to continue to get opportunities to play and improve."

Women's Tennis Claims 4-0 Victory Over Florida Atlantic.
by Jodie Judd, FSU Sports Information
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - The No. 7 FSU women's tennis team concluded its weekend of competition this morning by claiming a commanding 4-0 victory over Florida Atlantic. The win moved FSU to 5-1 on the season with four of those victories coming against teams from the State of Florida.
"We jumped on them from the start of the match and set the tone and never let up," said FSU Head Coach Jen Hyde. "We played so clean in the doubles today and executed very well."
The doubles point came quickly with the Seminoles needing only 28 minutes. The 50th-ranked pairing of Giulia Pairone and Emmanuelle Salas claimed a convincing 6-0 victory to put the Noles up 1-0. They were followed by Nandini Das and Andrea Garcia who won their game 6-1 to secure the doubles point for FSU.
The Noles continued to show their pedigree in the singles matches. Salas led the way by winning her game against Florida Atlantic's Katerina Filip 6-1, 6-0. Andrea Garcia, who moved to 8-0 in singles, followed her with a 6-0, 6-2 win. The Noles then closed out the Owls when #27 Giulia Pairone claimed a 6-1, 6-1 victory on court one.
"The momentum carried over to singles where we jumped out to some great leads which led to a very solid push in momentum across the courts," said Hyde. "They kept their feet on the gas in singles, which exactly some thing we've been working on getting better at. I'm proud of the effort and how they took care of the business at hand.
"Now we were prepare for the start of the ACC season next weekend on the road. Things are about to pick up and we can't wait!"

Women's Tennis Opens ACC Play With 6-1 Win.
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - It has been almost a year since the sixth-ranked FSU women's tennis team played a conference match. On Saturday in Clemson, SC, the Seminoles didn't seem to be at all rusty. FSU cruised to a 6-1 win over the Tigers to move to 6-1 on the season and 15-5 in its last 20 regular season ACC matches.
"It's always good to get on the road for ACC play and pick up a quick win," said FSU Head Coach Jen Hyde. "We did a great job across the board. Winning 6-1 is a pretty big statement. I am pleased with the level we are playing at right now."
FSU took the early lead by securing the doubles point. After falling on court two, Andrea Garcia & Nandini Das improved to 8-0 on the season with a 6-4 win on court three. The Seminoles then took the doubles point when Giulia Pairone and Victoria Allen, playing together for the first time, won their match 6-4 as well.
"We mixed up some of the doubles and found a way to grab that doubles point," said Hyde. "We have to start more aggressively in all three spots moving forward. That's one thing we learned in doubles today. We have to play with a lot more intention to start the match."
In singles, the Seminoles won in straight sets in each match on courts 2-6. Emmanuelle Salas won 6-2, 7-5 on court two, Das won 6-2, 7-5 on court three, on court four Anna Arkdianou won 6-3, 6-2, Petra Hule won 6-0, 6-2 on five and Garcia won 6-3, 6-0 on court six to move to 9-0 on the season.
"Excellent job in getting quick first sets and big leads on most of the courts in singles," said Hyde. "I don't think we gave them much hope after that. I was proud of the effort. I was proud of the complete match mentality. The girls played complete matches today. It was really important that we continue to establish that as the norm. We need to hang in there from the first point until the end mentally."
Next up for FSU is an ACC showdown with No. 12 Georgia Tech Sunday at noon. The 12th-ranked Yellow Jackets are 7-4 entering today's match versus Miami and feature a top five doubles team and three ranked singles players. The Jackets have lost both duals in 2021 to ranked opponents.
"Now we head to Atlanta and we are excited to play Georgia Tech," said Hyde. "We aren't sure if we'll be inside or outside but we are ready for our next ACC opportunity. We are really primed for it after today's match and the performance we had today behind us."

No. 6 Women's Tennis Cruises Past No. 12 Georgia Tech.
ATLANTA. Ga. - What was anticipated to be an early season ACC road test for the sixth-ranked Florida State women's tennis team, turned out to be another convincing display of depth and dominance. FSU won the first five points versus No. 12 Georgia Tech to clinch the win early and closed out the match with a 5-2 victory. The win improved the Noles to 7-1 on the season and to 2-0 in ACC play.
Andrea Garcia continued her stellar start to the season winning points in both her singles and doubles match. The two victories moved the redshirt senior to 20-0 on the season and gave her 193 wins all-time wins at FSU. The Asturias, Spain native is now in second place for all-time career wins at FSU.
The Seminoles started strong by taking the doubles point from the Jackets. Giulia Pairone and Victoria Allen didn't get the opportunity to finish off a potential upset of the nation's No. 5 doubles pair (4-5) because FSU closed it out before they had the chance. Petra Hule and Emmanuelle Salas were first off on court three with a 6-4 win. Nandini Das and Garcia followed with a 6-4 win of their own.
In singles, courts 4-6 led the way locking up the win at 4-0. Allen was first off as she improved her singles record to 5-2 this season with a quick 6-1, 6-2 victory. On court five, Hule was next off as she moved to 5-2 as well with her 6-1, 6-2 win. Garcia completed her perfect day with a 6-3, 6-4 win on court six. FSU moved out to a 5-0 lead thanks to Salas who upset the nation's 56th-ranked player in straight sets (7-5, 6-3).

5th-Ranked Women Take Down 9th-Ranked NCST.
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - For the second time in less than a week the Seminole women's tennis team faced a top 15 ACC opponent and for the second time the Seminoles made a statement with another 5-2 victory. Last week it was No. 12 Georgia Tech. Tonight it was No. 9 NC State. While the opponent was ranked higher Friday, the result was the same as FSU (8-1, 3-0) continues to prove it is among the nation's elite.
Despite dropping a closely contested doubles point against a Wolfpack squad that featured two doubles pairs ranked in the top 16, the Seminoles dominated in singles winning on five of six courts. NCST came into Tallahassee with a lineup featuring singles players ranked #23, #35 and #38 but it wasn't enough against a Seminole squad that won all three matches that went to three sets including two upsets of top 35 players.
"A hugely resilient effort today by this entire squad," said FSU Head Coach Jen Hyde. "We lost the doubles point 7-6 and to lose the clinch in doubles and get down on a couple courts early got our attention. We just fought back. There was a time there where it really felt it was going the other way but we just did a great job of grabbing the rope and pulling it back in and holding on to it. We kept competing which I am very proud of.
"One of the things we talked about early in the season was the first couple months of the season the teams that are competing the hardest are going to have a little more success as everyone gets back to normalcy. I am so proud of that effort tonight. This is a tough group. It's an honor to out there with them in these types of environments. It's so fun to watch and I am just so proud of them all."
After losing a gut-wrenching doubles point, Andrea Garcia came off on six with a 6-2, 6-3 win that moved her to 11-0 on the season in singles play and evened the match at 1-1. Redshirt junior Emmanuelle Salas then gave the Seminoles a huge lift. Facing the 23rd-ranked player in the nation, Salas' 6-2, 7-5 straight-set upset on two kick-started the Seminoles comeback.
The final three points for FSU all came in three-set victories. First, it was Petra Hule who cruised in her final set to secure the third point for the Noles 6-4, 5-7, 6-0. Then Vic Allen was next off coming back from a 3-6 first set to claim the clinching point with 6-4, 6-3 victories in sets two and three. With the match already in hand, all eyes turned to court one where No. 32 Giulia Pairone and No. 35 Anna Rogers battled for three sets as well. After dropping the first set 1-6, Pairone took the second 6-4 and then closed out the 5-2 victory with a 6-4 win in set three.
"Dre got us the first point and a key point of the match with a stellar effort in singles after a tough doubles loss. We talk about having a short memory in tennis and she showed how important that was tonight. Manu played probably one of her most complete matches of the semester. She has been getting better every match and it really showed today. She stuck with the game plan from the first point to the very end of the match and closed it out perfectly. I was so proud of her effort.
"The guts Gules had there at the end in the last match to clinch after she had a couple opportunities to finish and she hung in there. Pep had a chance to finish in two sets and it got away from her a little bit but to go 6-0 in the third what a great bounce back by her. Vic lost the first set and came back to win in three. Just so many big-hearted efforts tonight. I am so impressed with the heart and fight of this team. They can bring it."

Women's Tennis Sweeps Another ACC Weekend With Win Over Wake Forest.
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - For the second week in a row, the No. 5 FSU women's tennis team swept a pair of weekend ACC matches. The Seminoles (9-1, 4-0), coming off a big win over No. 9 NC State Friday, took care of business Sunday afternoon with a 4-3 win over the Demon Deacons (4-5, 0-2). The win was the Seminoles' 18th in their last 23 conference matches.
Giulia Pairone notched her second win of the weekend versus a top 35 opponent as she took down the nation's 21st-ranked player on Sunday. Petra Hule also faced a ranked opponent upsetting No. 89 Eliza Omirou. Andrea Garcia picked up another singles win to move to 12-0 on the season and Nandini Das picked up a point for the Noles to move her record to 6-3 in singles.
"It's fantastic to start out ACC play 4-0 and finish off the month of February on a high note," said FSU head coach Jen Hyde. "Grabbing ACC wins is not easy and to go 4-0 to start, I'm very proud of the girls.
"I think we saw some of the effects of the battle we had Friday night show up today but I was really happy how we at a number of spots muscled through that fatigue. There's no doubt that the match Friday took a lot out of us. We had to play from behind and the effects of that were felt today. We were a little flat in a couple of spots, which was OK because they did a good job of letting their tennis take care of the work."
After falling down 1-0, the Noles once again flexed their collective muscle in singles play. The highlight of the day was Hule's performance on court five. The redshirt sophomore played an epic first set where she pulled out a 7-6 victory after winning the tiebreaker 17-15. She then turned around and won the second set 6-1 to clinch the win for FSU. Pairone had another notable performance as well. She was one of three Seminoles, joining Das and Garcia, to pick-up points in straight set victories. Pairone is now 5-2 this season versus nationally ranked players.
"We are going to keep our focus on the doubles point," said Hyde. "We are able to grab singles now as needed and that's awesome confidence we have up and down the lineup at every single spot. If we happen to drop the doubles point, we know everyone is on board in taking care of their individual work in singles. At the same time, that doubles point is something we want to continue to improve on and execute at a higher level. That's the only thing that's missing now. We are going to keep working on that and getting a little better every match we play.
"I am proud of the effort, the focus and the maturity of these young ladies week-in and week-out right now. It's a challenging time emotionally and mentally and they are doing a really good job of managing it all. The girls are working so hard and staying focused on the task at hand. They are putting us in the best position to thrive and I am impressed with that."

No. 1 Tar Heels Prevail In Top 5 Matchup With Women's Tennis.
CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - Playing back-to-back matches versus top 10 teams on the road was expected to be a tough early-season test for the fifth-ranked Seminoles and it was just that. Less than 24 hours after facing No. 8 Duke, FSU was indoors versus No. 1 UNC. The Seminoles (9-3, 4-2), who were looking to snap a 30-match UNC win streak, ended up falling to No. 1 North Carolina (13-0, 4-0) 7-0.
Florida State fell behind dropping the doubles point 2-0 leaving the Seminoles needing to pull upsets on at least three courts where they were facing a higher-ranked player. FSU was unable to breakthrough versus players ranked No.4, No. 6, No. 49, No. 79 or No. 120.

No. 7 Women's Tennis Takes Down BC.
WEYMOUTH, Mass. - The No. 7 FSU women's tennis team traveled to Massachusetts and came away with a hard-fought ACC road win. The Seminoles took points on four of the six singles courts, including Giulia Pairone's win over the nation's 76th-ranked singles player, to take the match 4-3. The win moved Florida State to 10-3 on the year and 5-2 in the conference.
After dropping the doubles point 2-1, FSU once again showed its strength and depth in singles play. Pairone, Victoria Allen, Nandini Das and Andrea Garcia all won in straight sets, with Das clinching the win in the last match of the day. For Pairone, it was her sixth win of the season versus a nationally ranked opponent and Garcia improved her record in singles to 14-1 this season.
"If anyone says it's easy to head out on the road and grab wins in this league, they would be highly misguided in that assessment," said FSU Head Coach Jen Hyde. "Every team in the ACC is good, and very capable, regardless of any number which is or is not next to the name. It's awesome because we are constantly pressed to be better every day we compete, and today we did a good job of getting it done. I am proud of the discipline and maturity we showed after dropping the doubles point. They just put their heads down and got to work in singles, and didn't skip a beat."
The seventh-ranked Seminoles are back on the road Sunday. FSU will travel to Syracuse to take on the Orange (4-4, 1-1).
"We have another big challenge ahead of us on Sunday as we take on Syracuse inside their speedy tennis facility," said Hyde. "It will be a battle for which we are battle-tested."

No. 7 Women's Tennis Defeats Syracuse 7-0.
SYRACUSE, N.Y. - The seventh-ranked FSU women's tennis team completed its trek through the northern portion of the ACC with a perfect 2-0 mark after defeating No. 50 Syracuse 7-0 Sunday. Emmanuelle Salas and Giulia Pairone each recorded victories over ranked opponents as FSU moves to 11-3, 6-2 on the season.
FSU took the first point in singles when Petra Hule's opponent had to retire with the Seminole redshirt-sophomore leading 5-2. As has been the case most of the season, Andrea Garcia won her match but also came off early with a 6-3, 6-1 win that moved her singles record to 15-1 on the season. Salas was next off as the redshirt-junior beat the 81st-ranked player in the nation in straight sets 6-2, 6-2. Nandini Das and Anna Arkadianou each won in straight sets as well. The last match to go final was another ranked win for Pairone as she beat the No. 121 singles player in straight sets 6-3, 7-6 (7-3) improving to 7-4 this season versus nationally-ranked opponents.
The Seminoles took an early lead they wouldn't relinquish after the doubles point. After falling on court three, both Salas and Allen and Pairone and Arkadianou came from behind to pull off 7-5 wins and secure the first point.

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - Redshirt senior Andrea Garcia recorded her 193rd and 194th career wins Friday and moved into sole possession of second place at FSU for all-time victories as the sixth-ranked Seminoles defeated Louisville 4-1. The victory moved the Noles to 12-3 on the year and 7-2 in ACC play.
For Garcia, 2021 is shaping up to be one of the best years of her illustrious career. With two more wins Friday, the Asturias, Spain native moved to 16-1 in singles and 12-4 in doubles. She is also just six wins away from becoming the first player in FSU women's tennis history to reach 200 wins in her career.
Garcia wasn't the only Seminole to add to their win totals versus Louisville Friday. Giulia Pairone (11-5) and Nandini Das (9-5) also recorded victories, as each won in straight sets. The Seminoles started the match strong by taking the doubles point 2-0.

No. 6 Women's Tennis Sweeps Past No. 47 Notre Dame 7-0.
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - In a season of win streaks, the sixth-ranked Seminoles are in the midst of yet another run. Florida State women's tennis beat No. 47 Notre Dame Sunday 7-0 to notch the team's fourth straight win. The victory moved the Noles to 13-3 on the season and 8-2 in ACC play.
"The outdoor conditions all weekend were very challenging, and our squad did a fantastic job managing the winds, the rains, and everything else that came along," said FSU head coach Jen Hyde. "A 7-0 sweep of any team in the ACC is not easy to pull off. I thought we did a good job of just staying the course, playing within ourselves, and playing very smart and committed to our strategies."
After a bit of a slow start where the Seminoles fell behind early in doubles, FSU was able to pull out the point and take an early lead. Andrea Garcia and Nandini Das evened the match at 1-1 with a 6-4 win. That left it up to FSU's No. 1 pair of Victoria Allen and Emmanuelle Salas who needed to upset the nation's 19th-ranked doubles team to secure the point and that's just what they did with a 6-4 win.
With a 1-0 lead heading into singles, Nandini Das was quick to extend that margin as she was the first off with a 6-2, 6-1 win. Allen put FSU in front 3-0 with a 6-2, 6-4 win on five and then Garcia once again recorded a win with her own straight set win, 6-2, 6-2, clinching the match. Salas recorded the fifth FSU point with a 10-4 win in a tiebreaker after splitting the first two sets 6-3, 5-7. Petra Hule recorded another point for the Noles winning 7-6, 6-3. That left just Giulia Pairone who was once again facing a ranked opponent. Versus the No. 109 player in the country, Pairone dropped the first set 2-6 before storming back in the second to win 6-2 and then taking the tiebreaker 10-8. That moved the redshirt-senior to 6-4 on the year versus ranked competition.
ACC play continues for the Seminoles in two weeks after a much-needed weekend off. First up is No. 15 Virginia, April 2. The Noles and Cavaliers will face-off Friday at 5:00 p.m. at the Scott Speicher Memorial Tennis Center. Virginia Tech will be in town Sunday, April 4 for a noon match at Speicher as well. Fans are welcome to attend with a capacity limit of 116 and masks are required.
"Now It's time to get a little reset, a couple days of physical and mental rest, and then switch gears later this week towards the final four home matches of the regular season that are in front of us," said Hyde.

No. 6 Women's Tennis Racks Up Top 10 ACC Win Versus No. 8 UVA.
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - The Top 10 showdown in Tallahassee featuring two of the ACC's top teams lived up to the hype. It started out with the Seminole Sound, moved to a thrilling doubles point, and then saw FSU jump out to a 3-0 lead before the match was tied up in a blink of an eye, only to see the Seminoles clinch the win just minutes later. The victory moved #6 FSU to 14-3 and 9-2 in the ACC as the Seminoles defeated their highest-ranked opponent this season.
"It was a great atmosphere at the start today, having Seminole Sound band members here for the National Anthem, War Chant and FSU Fight Song," said FSU head coach Jen Hyde. "We can't thank them enough for getting behind our program today!
"Today was just a great team win. We had some tough slow starts but we found a way to hang around and turn things in our favor. Every ACC match is such a battle, and getting to four points each time we go out there is a huge accomplishment. I can't say enough about the fight and persistence of this group."
The showdown couldn't have started in a more apt way with a highly contested doubles point. After Virginia jumped out to a 1-0 lead, Giulia Pairone and Petra Hule upset the nation's No. 52 doubles pair 6-2 to even it up at 1-1. The clincher came down to a ranked battle between FSU's No. 12 pair of Andrea Garcia and Nandini Das and the nation's No. 42 ranked doubles side for Virginia. The point hinged on a tiebreaker that Das and Garcia won 7-3 to stake the Noles to a 1-0 advantage.
As seems to be the case in most matches, Garcia was first off with another win. The senior is now at 198 career wins and just two shy of setting a new all-time record for FSU women's tennis. Hule put FSU up 3-0 with a straight set 7-5, 6-3 win but UVA took three straight following Hule's win to even it up at 3-3. That left it up to Victoria Allen who fell behind in each set but came back each time to win 7-6 (7-3), 6-3.
The Seminoles will complete the weekend Sunday as they welcome Virginia Tech to the Scott Speicher Memorial Tennis Center for a noon match.
"This was a great start to the weekend, and we will enjoy this win and turn our attention (tomorrow) to a tough Virginia Tech match on Sunday," said Hyde.

Garcia Sets FSU Record With 200th Career Win.
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - Andrea Garcia has cemented her name in Seminole history. The senior from Asturias, Spain recorded her 199th and 200th career wins at FSU Sunday setting a new all-time career wins record for the program as No. 6 Florida State defeated Virginia Tech 6-1.
Garcia, who has recorded at least 27 wins every year in her career, broke the career wins record set by Lauren McCreless from 2007-10. Garcia is already the first Seminole to record 100 wins in doubles and is just one singles win away from joining just five other Seminoles with 100 career wins in singles as well.
"I have no words," said Garcia. "I had no idea that I was so close to this record. I could not have done this without all my teammates, coaches and support staff. I don't think there is a better way to complete my senior year. It is insane. This isn't just my record. It belongs to everyone I played with. Everyone that helped me."
"Getting to 200 wins is an insane number," said FSU head coach Jen Hyde. "I'm not sure that's ever going to happen again in this program. Dre has been a consistent force since she first got here along with this senior class. The fact that she is the all-time record-holder isn't that big of a surprise because she has been so good for so long. I am so glad she is a Seminole. I am so glad she is here. I am so glad she chose us. She has been a program-changer and I am so proud and happy for her. She has earned this. It's a big day for her and a big day for Florida State tennis."
The record-setting day started with an impressive performance in doubles. Emmanuelle Salas and Victoria Allen set the tone for the Seminoles. The nation's 42nd-ranked doubles pair came off first with a 6-2 win. Giulia Pairone and Petra Hule clinched the point with a 6-2 victory and Garcia and Nandini Das finished off doubles with a 6-3 victory. That win tied Garcia for the all-time record.
Hule made quick work of her opponent in singles with a 6-1, 6-1 win. Allen put the Seminoles on the verge of the win with her 6-2, 6-1 victory. Pairone clinched the win for FSU with her 6-1, 6-4 victory on court one but it was Garcia's match on six where everyone was focused. After Das closed out her win, the entire team and everyone in the stands focused on Garcia and she was able to celebrate the record with a 7-6 (7-3), 6-1 victory.
"The team did a fantastic job taking care of the work we needed to do to have another undefeated ACC weekend," said Hyde. "We are always going to get our opponent's best efforts and that was true today with Virginia Tech. They kept swinging and they kept coming for us. We did a good job of stopping things, putting our foot down and controlling the courts. We anticipate, expect and look forward to opponents swinging at us, that's a privilege and we talk about that all the time. I was proud of the way the girls stopped any momentum shifts and finished the job."

Noles Win 4-3 Senior Day Thriller over No. 22 Miami.
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - The No. 4 ranked Florida State women's tennis earns a thrilling 4-3 win over No. 22 Miami on senior day.
"What an unbelievable roller coaster of a win," said Head Coach Jennifer Hyde. "I thought we maybe played some of the best doubles that we've played so far this season, across-the-board. Miami came out very hot in singles, made a ton of balls, and jumped out to four first sets. But our girls showed some incredible determination and resiliency tonight and found ways to get three more points on the board. Petra was an absolute warrior to find her way back 6 match points down, down 2-5 in the 3rd set to clinch. College tennis...there's absolutely nothing like it."
The spotlight was on junior Petra Hule who fought seven overall match points from Miami's Florencia Urrutia in the decisive singles contest on court four. Urrutia took the first set with a 11-7 tiebreak win. Hule immediately bounced back taking the third set with a dominating 6-0 win.
With nearly the entire third set played after the other matches had ended, Hule and Urrutia headed to a tiebreak. The junior fought off every match point to take the tiebreak 7-2 and secure the win for the Seminoles over Miami.
The Seminoles Started off strong by taking the lead on all three courts in doubles. The No. 42-ranked pair of Victoria Allen and Emmanuelle Salas took down Miami's No.19-ranked Estela Perez-Somarriba and Isabella Pfenning, 6-4. Hule and Giulia Pairone secured the doubles point on court three by defeating Urrutia and Daevenia Achong, 6-3.
In singles, The Hurricanes evened the score with 6-2, 6-2 victory on six over Andrea Garcia. Moments later, Allen responded on court five with a 6-4, 6-1 over Diana Khodan of Miami.
The back and forth continued as Miami once again ties the match with another victory on court two 6-3, 6-4 over Salas.
Senior Nandini Das once again extended the lead to one for the Seminoles with a straight-set win on court three. She took the first set 6-2 and earned a senior day victory by taking the second set 6-4.
"The few fans that we were allowed to have to celebrate our seniors on Senior Day were absolutely amazing," said Hyde. "How epic for Senior Day and Rivalry Day to end in such dramatic fashion in our favor. I'm so proud of this team."

Short-Handed Women's Tennis Falls 4-3 To No. 18 UCF.
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - Playing without two of its top singles players, the fourth-ranked FSU women's tennis team went into a decisive final match on court one with 18th-ranked UCF. With the match tied 3-3, Emmanuelle Salas took the nation's 28th-ranked singles player to three sets but was unable to pull off the upset. The loss was the first of the season at home for the Seminoles and completes the squad's regular season slate with a 16-4 record.
"Today was a tough one but I am really proud of the huge fight shown by every member of our team under some tough circumstances," said FSU Head Coach Jen Hyde. "The fight in this team is for real and we couldn't be more excited to reset our focus on the next task which is to compete for an ACC Championship."
FSU had to adjust its doubles lineup Friday with one-half of the nation's 45th-ranked pair unavailable. Despite the change, the Seminoles still secured the point. FSU's fifth-ranked doubles team of Nandini Das and Andrea Garcia took care of business 6-3 and the 19th-ranked pair of Salas and Victoria Allen did the same with a 6-4 win.
With FSU's top-ranked singles player unable to go and its line four-player out as well, Hyde had to move players up the lineup and also rely on the entire roster versus a top-20 opponent. Victoria Allen, playing on court four, and Anna Arkadianou, playing on five, each secured points for the Seminoles but FSU was unable to upset either the No. 22 or No. 28 singles players in the nation, in what turned out to be pivotal points in the match.
The Seminoles will now head into the ACC Championships next week in Rome, GA as one of the top seeds in the tournament. The full bracket and seedings will be released Sunday.
"It will be great for our girls to wrap up their finals and take care of their business in the classroom and then they can have a narrow focus on competition," said FSU Head Coach Jen Hyde. "We are going to move full steam ahead into next weekend."

Women's Tennis Drops ACC Tournament Match Versus No. 24 UM.
ROME, Ga. - After a three-hour weather delay and a change of venue, the fourth-ranked FSU women's tennis team faced No. 24 Miami for the second time in the last two weeks. After defeating the Hurricanes 4-3 on senior night, UM got a measure of revenge Friday. The Hurricanes flipped the doubles point from the first meeting and then went on to a 4-1 victory. The loss eliminates FSU from the ACC Championships and the team will now turn its attention to the NCAA Tournament beginning in two weeks.
"Obviously, today's result is a tough one to swallow," said FSU Head Coach Jen Hyde. "But credit to Miami for coming out hot today after we beat them two weeks ago back in Tallahassee. I've said all semester that the depth of our conference is by far the best in the nation, evidenced by two of the top three seeds falling in quarterfinal action today. Anything can happen on any given day in this conference and such a small separation between which team is a little better on the day and able to grab four points first. Today wasn't our day, but we will reset and be back preparing for our next opportunity to compete again in the NCAA Tournament."
Miami surprised the Seminole with upsets on court one and two in doubles. In a battle between FSU's 20th-ranked doubles pair of Emmanuelle Salas and Victoria Allen and the 25th-ranked team from Miami, the Hurricanes took the match 3-6. On court two, the eighth-ranked tandem of Nandini Das and Andrea Garcia fell 1-6 to the No. 24 pair from UM, clinching the point for the Canes.
Trailing 1-0, the Seminoles most likely needed to upset one of the Hurricane's two top 15 players to pull out the victory. No. 40 Salas wasn't able to take down her 14th-ranked opponent and with Petra Hule's straight set 6-2, 6-2 win, FSU was facing a 3-1 deficit and needing to win all three final matches that went to three sets. Giulia Pairone, ranked 10th in the nation, was facing the defending NCAA singles champion and the nation's fourth-ranked player. Pairone cruised to a 6-3 first set win but couldn't hold on against one of the nation's top players as Miami clinched the win.

Women's Tennis Advances At NCAA Tallahassee Regional.
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - It took over two years for the FSU women's tennis team to get back to NCAA Tournament play and just under 90 minutes to advance to the second round. Florida State dropped just eight total games in singles and doubles en route to a 4-0 win over Alabama State and a berth in the second round of the NCAA Tennis Tallahassee Regional.
"Before the match, we talked about being efficient and I think that was the way we performed today," said FSU Head Coach Jen Hyde. "We are excited to get the win and advance in the National Championship tournament."
Florida State, featuring three ranked doubles teams, secured the doubles point to take the early lead. The nation's eighth-ranked pair of Nandini Das and Andrea Garcia were first off. The seniors improved to 18-4 on the season with a 6-1 win. Giulia Pairone and Vic Allen clinched the doubles point for FSU. The nation's 89th-ranked pair won their match on court three 6-3.
The strength of the Seminoles in 2021 has been the team's depth and that was the case, again on Friday. FSU secured the match thanks to courts 4, 5 and 6. Allen was the first off on court 5 as she rolled to a 6-0, 6-0 win. Petra Hule was next on the board as she won 6-1, 6-1 on court 4 to put FSU in front 3-0. Then the program's all-time wins leader closed it out as Andrea Garcia won her 20th match of the season 6-0, 6-2 to once again clinch a victory for the Seminoles.

Sweet 16 Bound!
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - For the third time under head coach Jen Hyde and the second time in the last three NCAA Tournaments, the FSU Women's Tennis team is headed to the Round of 16. Florida State started strong and then had to fend off a late push by No. 19 Auburn before taking the match 4-1 to move on to Lake Nona with a trip to the quarterfinals up next.
"That was an absolute battle, which is what we expected," said Hyde. "It didn't disappoint. I think today we got tougher and we were forced to get tougher by Auburn. They did a fantastic job. They fought so hard but at the end of the day, we fought a little harder at a couple of spots and were able to hang in there a little bit longer in some of the matches. We came up big in a couple different tiebreakers and in doubles. We overcame some deficits and fought our way back in.
"Getting to the Sweet 16, I've been doing this a long time, and it is tough. Everybody is good at this point. Being at home, hosting was a tremendous help. It's not easy and this team absolutely battled today. I think our maturity came through today and the composure the team showed in a really stressful situation. They handled it like rock stars. You have to have those chops and those guts and when we get down to Orlando we are going to have to bring that every single time we step on the court. We got better today for being pushed like that."
FSU got off to a strong start with a 2-0 win in doubles. Petra Hule and Giulia Pairone, the nation's 89th-ranked doubles team, came off first with a 6-3 victory on three. FSU's No. 30 doubles pair of Emmanuelle Salas and Victoria Allen clinched the point for the Seminoles on court one with a 6-2 win over Auburn's 69th-ranked pair.
The Seminoles got off to a similarly strong start in singles. Victoria Allen, Nandini Das, Allen and Hule all took their first sets. Allen closed out her opponent first with a 6-1, 6-1 win to put FSU in front 2-0. As the match moved into second sets, Auburn started to take the momentum back. Winning on court one and court four and looking like they were going to do the same on three and six as well. FSU's two longest-tenured seniors, Das and Andrea Garcia, were both forced into tiebreakers in set two. Das looking to secure another point for FSU and not be forced into a third set. Garcia, looking to keep Auburn off the board and to push her match into a third. Both seniors were up 5-4 in the respective tiebreakers and both found a way to win. For Das, it put FSU up 3-1 and just minutes later Hule took her third set to clinch the match.
"I think Dini did a great job fighting back in that second set," said Hyde. "It is kind of funny that both our 'super seniors' were in tiebreakers at the same time in pretty pivotal moments in the match. They both came through and that speaks to their experience and the times they've had to step up this entire semester. I was so proud of them for not succumbing to the moment but rather stepping up and facing that challenge head-on."
Florida State will move on to face Texas A&M in the Round of 16 in Lake Nona, FL. The Aggies (21-7) are the 10th-seed in the NCAA Tournament and advanced with a 4-2 win over No. 21 Northwestern earlier today. The teams will meet Sunday, May 16 with a chance to advance to the national quarterfinals.
"I am so proud of this team," said Hyde. "The effort they put forth to get to this point. I just can't emphasize enough how difficult it is. We have now made the Final 16 in two of our last three tournament appearances and I think we are better now than we were two days ago. We are excited to get down to Orlando and continue this journey."

Women's Tennis Moves Into NCAA Quarterfinals For Second Time In Four Years.
ORLANDO, Fla. - In 2018 the FSU women's tennis team advanced to the NCAA Quarterfinals for the first time in program history. Three years later, they are back. The seventh-seeded Seminoles defeated 10th-seeded Texas A&M 4-2 in the Round of 16 Sunday afternoon to move into the final eight teams still in the hunt for the 2021 National Championship.
"It was intense, we knew it was going to be an absolute battle and I think when you've got 7 vs. 10 and anybody in this tournament every match is going to be a battle," said FSU Head Coach Jen Hyde. "I'm just really proud of the girls we hung in there when we could've very easily checked out of it a little bit mentally. Did a fantastic job in doubles, we had some deficits in doubles, and did a good job at digging out of that. It was a pretty rowdy Texas A&M bunch and their men's team did a good job cheering for their team but we were composed, we stuck with it and we knew it was going to be a long haul and that's exactly what it ended up being."
"I think losing in the first round of the ACC Tournament, I think we had something to prove and something more to accomplish," said senior Nandini Das. "I never would like to go out without having wins like this. This is just how I want to finish my career here and I am very excited to be in the final eight again."
FSU struck first taking the doubles point. It is the 10th time in the last 11 matches that the Seminoles have gone in front by winning doubles. Petra Hule and Giulia Pairone moved through their match quickly, securing the first win on line three with a 6-2 victory. The other two matches were much more closely contested. The Seminoles' top two pairs, Andrea Garcia and Nandini Das and Emmanuelle Salas and Giulia Pairone, both were tied at 5-5 in their matches. Both won the next game to move to 6-5 in front and then FSU closed it out on court one as Salas and Allen secured the point for the Seminoles with a 7-5 win, upsetting the nation's No. 20 doubles pair.
Texas A&M advanced to the Round of 16 last week after dropping the doubles point and winning 4-1 and was looking for a repeat performance versus the Seminoles. The Aggies did draw first blood in singles, evening the match at 1-1. Allen quickly moved FSU back into the lead as she improved her win streak to eight matches to make it a 2-1 FSU edge but Texas A&M once again evened it up with a win on court one.
The match came down to a best 2-of-3 in three, third set matches on courts 3, 4 and 6. Das took the first of the final three matches to put the Seminoles on the brink of the quarterfinals. The senior won 6-4, 4-6, 6-1 to move to 2-0 in the 2021 NCAA Tournament and put FSU up 3-2. Hule then finished the win off as she stretched her win streak to nine matches with a 6-7 (5-7), 6-2, 6-1 clinching victory.
"I think it's a difference-maker," said Das of her critical win. "If you are a fifth-year, all eyes are on you. I've been in that position many times before. Sometimes I have won. I have lost the clincher beforeā¦There's nothing more to lose. Every match you play can be the last. I would never want to do anything but give it my all in the last match I play... I win that match it gives (Petra) a lot of confidence to take that third set."
"I think it's a big separator," said Hyde of her team's maturity. "That maturity piece as the season has weathered on I think has been a great value. We have been so battle-tested throughout the entire semester that stepping into this setting and obviously the NCAA stage it's a little different, a little more intense but we are battle-tested nonetheless."
FSU will face No. 2 Texas Wednesday with a trip to the semifinals at stake.
"No thoughts on that just yet, but it's going to be a little bit of the same song and dance," said Hyde upon learning they will face Texas. "We are going to have to battle, battle, battle, and have to give our best effort that day. I'm grateful we have a couple days to recover. Physically it was tough today, it was really hot out there and I think that will take its toll on every team out here in the heat but we are excited about the opportunity to keep it dancing in this tournament and we got the first check in the box out of the way and we are going to enjoy this one for sure.
"It's not easy to get to eight, it's not easy to get to 16 and even 32 or 64, especially in a year that has been such a strange COVID year they have done an unbelievable job at not having any bumps in the road outside of the things that are out of our control and we are looking forward to continue doing so."

Women's Tennis Falls In Elite Eight.
ORLANDO, Fla. - One of the most successful seasons in FSU women's tennis program history came to a close Wednesday afternoon. The seventh-seeded Seminoles dropped their NCAA quarterfinal match 4-0 to No. 2 Texas to end the squad's run at the NCAA Tournament. For FSU, the Elite Eight appearance was the second in the last three tournaments and equaled the best finish in school history.
"I am just so proud of this group and the season they created for themselves and for our program during some of the most troubling times in our history," said FSU Head Coach Jen Hyde. "It was through sheer commitment to this program, to one another, to this team, to wanting to take advantage of being a part of this great group, knowing we could succeed. I am grateful for their maturity and how they led this program.
"Today is a rough day but there are so many things to be so proud of. To put ourselves on this stage, as we have consistently the last few years, Florida State tennis is a program to be reckoned with."
For just the second time in the last 12 matches, FSU was unable to secure the doubles point. Petra Hule and Giulia Pairone got the Seminoles off to the start they were seeking on court three with a 6-3 win but Texas closed out on both courts one and two to take the 1-0 lead.
"Doubles was critical," said Hyde. "There were a couple of big points, if we can snag those, there were two deuce points that would have made a significant difference in that match. We came out on the other side of it today sometimes that happens. We were close."
Facing four players all ranked in the top 76 in singles on the first four lines, Florida State knew it would have its work cut out to take points on four courts. After dropping the first set on all six courts, the Seminoles showed their maturity and fight to force third sets on three of four remaining courts after falling behind 3-0 but in the end, FSU was unable to pull out of the early hole.
"We ran out of time a little bit," said Hyde. "We had a pretty good push there in the second sets with 3, 4, 5 and 6. There is all fight and no fold in this team. They knew for us to win today it was probably going to be a full three sets across the board. Credit to Texas. They did a really good job jumping out to those early leads and it is tough playing from behind in the Elite Eight.
"We hung in there and we fought. We talked about leaving it all out there and there is no question in my mind this team left it out there today as they did all season up to the last ball that was struck. I couldn't have asked any more of these young ladies."

Record Number Of Seminoles Wrap Up NCAA Championship Individual Play.
ORLANDO, Fla. - Florida State sent four student-athletes to the NCAA Individual Championships, the most in program history, and also set the program record for the number of All-America honors secured with three. Giulia Pairone was seeded in the NCAA Tournament Singes Championship and joined in singles competition by Emmanuelle Salas. Nandini Das and Andrea Garcia competed in the NCAA Doubles Championships.
Garcia and Das advanced to the quarterfinals as one of eight doubles pairs remaining in title contention equaling the furthest any FSU doubles team has advanced in the NCAA Tournament in program history. The only other pair of Seminoles to advance to the NCAA Quarterfinals previously were Audra Brannon and Laura Randmaa in 1993.
Das and Garcia started the tournament with a straight sets win upsetting the nation's sixth-ranked doubles pair of Ariana Arsenault and Katrina Jokic of Georgia. They then recorded another straight set victory over Wake Forest's Carolyn Campana and Eliza Omirou, the 27th-ranked doubles team. In the quarterfinal round, Das and Garcia faced the No. 19 team of Kylie Collins and Lulu Sun of the National Champion Texas Longhorns. The Seminoles dropped the first set and then fought off a match point to take the second but ultimately fell in the tiebreaker after fighting off another three match points.
Pairone and Salas each faced a top 45 opponent in their opening matches in the NCAA Singles Championships. Pairone dropped her match versus No. 33 Emma Antonaki of Mississippi State and Salas fell to No. 43 Christina Rosca of Vanderbilt. Antonaki would eventually advance to the round of 16 and Rosca to the quarterfinals.
