Women’s Tennis Wraps up Day One of the Debbie Southern Fall Classic.
September 21, 2018
GREENVILLE, S.C. – The Florida State women’s tennis team got their fall season started on Friday with all eight student-athletes in competition at the Debbie Southern Fall Classic.
The day started with two rounds of doubles play, with four Seminole doubles pairs competing in three different draws.
“This event is probably stronger than most, if not all non-national events this fall, and that is exactly what we were hoping for this weekend,” said head coach Jennifer Hyde. “It’s so good to be back out in a competitive setting with this team and it was a good day of getting back into pressure situations and uncomfortable and challenging moments. These exact situations were experienced by everyone today. In the fall season, it’s all about the opportunity for getting better from those moments.”
In doubles flight one, the Florida State duo of Carla Touly and Emmanuelle Salas kicked off their fall season with an 8-7 (7-3) win over Meyer/Rosca of Vanderbilt. This was their first doubles win as a pair in the first fall competition as a Seminoles for both of them. The Duo lost in the second round 8-5 to Fukunda/Boulain of Ohio State and will take on the Texas Pair of Granix/Markovic tomorrow at 9 a.m. to finish up doubles play.
Sophomore Petra Hule teamed up with senior transfer Ana Oparenovic in doubles flight two. The pair lost 8-2 in the first round to Cline/Chinellato of Texas. The Seminole duo bounced back in the second round to take down Spasojeciv/Labrana of Texas, 8-4. They will play Furman’s Weymouth/Vines tomorrow at 9 a.m. to finish up their doubles play.
In doubles flight 3 senior Julia Mikulski and junior Andrea Garcia lost their first match 8-7 (7-5) to Smith/Campana of Vanderbilt, but they too bounced back to take their second match over Furman’s Walker/Adams 8-3. GREENVILLE, S.C. – The Florida State women’s tennis team continued competition at the Debbie Southern Fall Classic on Saturday, and was highlighted by a big doubles win that saw Carla Touly and Emmanuelle Salas defeat the No. 21 doubles pair in the country out of Texas and another big singles win by Salas over the No. 30 ranked singles player.
“We saw a lot of good tennis from the girls today,” said head coach Jennifer Hyde. “We set the tone with doubles. We won three of four doubles matches and had match point in the fourth. Carla and Emmanuelle had a big ranked win over the No. 21 ranked team in the country. Emmanuelle followed that up by beating a very seasoned player from Vanderbilt (No. 30 Christina Rosca), getting her first collegiate singles win. Ana had a great singles win as well and won a good doubles match with Petra.”
The day started with the final round of doubles play before the completion of the second of three singles rounds.
The Seminoles went 3-1 in doubles on the day and finished the tournament with an 8-4 doubles record. In doubles flight one, junior Carla Touly and sophomore Emmanuelle Salas earned third place after taking down the No. 21 ranked doubles pair in the country of Granic/Markovic of Texas.
In flight two, senior Ana Oparenovic and sophomore Petra Hule completed play with an 8-4 win over Furman’s Weymouth/Vines in the back draw final.
Doubles flight three saw another back draw champion wearing garnet and gold as senior Julia Mikulski and junior Andrea Garcia earned an 8-6 win over South Carolina’s Davies/Rohrabacher. On the other side of the bracket, senior Ariana Rahmanparast and junior Nandini Das were competing in the championship match of flight three. They came up just short losing in a tiebreaker 8-7 (3) to Georgia Tech’s Deminova/Flores.
Singles play saw the Noles earn four more wins. Salas and Oparenovic both earned their first singles wins in a Florida State uniform and will be competing in the consolation finals match tomorrow. Salas earned a big win over the No. 30 ranked singles player Christina Rosca of Vanderbilt. Mikulski earned her second singles win of the tournament with a 6-3, 6-1 over Tamara Racine of Mississippi State and will be competing in the flight five finals tomorrow. Rahmanparast finished up singles play for the Noles with a 6-3, 6-4 win over Alex Angyalosy of Clemson to advance to the singles flight 8 consolation finals.
“I felt like the energy was a lot better today and the execution was a lot better.
Tomorrow is our opportunity to compete and improve. What I am looking forward too is for us to be a third-day team and come out and leave this tournament knowing we competed hard.”

GREENVILLE, S.C. – The Debbie Southern Fall Classic got wrapped up on Sunday and the Florida State women’s tennis team earned five wins. Florida State earned two consolation finals victories to go along with a second and third place finish.
“I’m very pleased with the progress we made this weekend,” said head coach Jennifer Hyde. “We are returning back home a better team than we were when we left on Thursday, and that is always the goal during your first event of the fall.”
Senior Ana Oparenovic finished up her first tournament as a Seminole with a 6-1, 6-2 win over Tijana Spasojevic of Texas in the flight three consolation finals. Oparenivic finished the tournament 2-1 in singles and 2-1 in doubles.
“Ana had a challenging Friday, but since that day, has been in total domination mode,” said Hyde. “She grew a lot from Friday to Sunday.”
In flight four, sophomore Petra Hule earned her first singles win of the fall with a dominating performance. She took down Danni Vines of Furman 7-5, 6-0. Junior Andrea Garcia joined her in the win column with a 6-0, 6-4 win over Ally Miller of Clemson.
“Petra and Andrea both worked hard and found some solid footing after some adversity over the weekend,” said Hyde.
Senior Ariana Rahmanparast and junior Nandini Das finished off the winning for the Noles. Rahmanparast earned a consolation finals win in flight eight due to a default, while Das earned a third-place finish in flight six with a three-set win over Emma Kurtz of Vanderbilt (4-6, 7-5, 6-4).
“Nandini played some really solid tennis again today, and played another ‘complete’ mental and physical match,” said Hyde. “The level was very high, and in her third set, she fought off a 1-4 deficit to win five straight games to win. She went and took that match.”
In flight five, senior Julia Mikulski came up just short of a flight championship as she lost to Emily Smith of Vanderbilt 6-4, 6-3 in the flight championship.
“Julia played for her flight championship today after two very solid and steady days of competing,” said Hyde. “She came up just short today, but she had a heck of a weekend. She’s playing very well (in both singles and doubles), and the work she put in over the summer is showing through.”
Sophomore Emmanuelle Salas finished her weekend with a loss to No. 88 Eliza Omirou of Wake Forest. Salas lost the first set 6-1 before she retired.
“We had some pretty spectacular personal performances, both mentally and physically, in both singles and doubles, and everyone is walking away from this weekend with improvements and growth, on many levels,” said Hyde. “This is exactly what we needed as we head into another level of competition starting next weekend at the Riviera All American event in California.”

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The Florida State women’s tennis team finished off the Seminole All-Conference Showdown with four singles championships to add to their one singles championship earned a day ago. The Noles went 15-2 in singles and 7-2 in doubles throughout the weekend.
“I am very pleased with how we closed out the fall season,” said head coach Jennifer Hyde. “I am very happy to grab five flight championships this weekend and only lose four matches. Having a chance to play at home certainly gave us a chance to see why we have so much to be excited about come the spring when we have the whole team here. The fall has been great, developmentally, for each of the girls and that has to continue from now until after Christmas Break. So much work has been put in and I think the results of the fall showed that, but we still have so much work left to do to get to where we want to go. I am very proud of the girls and how they competed and represented at home.”
Senior Ariana Rahmanparast earned the Seminole’s first title with a Flight E Championship win over Raquel Amaro of East Tennessee State 6-3, 6-0. It was the second year in a row that Rahmanparast won her flight at the All-Conference Showdown.
The Garnet and Gold grabbed the Flight B Championship with a big win by senior Ana Oparenovic. She defeated Katty Weymouth of Furman 6-3, 6-4 in the championship match. She was joined by juniors Nandini Das and Andre Garcia. Das defeated Maryann Rompf of Wisconsin 6-2, 6-1 for the Flight D Championship. Garcia earned the Seminole’s fourth singles championship after defeating Valentina Mariotto (UNF) in Flight F.
Sophomore Emmanuelle Salas was the only Nole to fall in the championship match, losing 6-0, 4-6, 10-4 to Katarina Kozorov of Furman in the Flight A Championship.
This tournament was the last of the fall for the Seminoles. They will begin their spring season January 11th in Tallahassee. “I think some of the focus will switch to academics and finishing this semester off in the classroom on a high note,” said Hyde. “Very close in the back of their minds will be what are we going to do to get better for the spring. As long as that stays close in everyone’s mind we are staying on the right path.”

No. 15 Women’s Tennis Takes Down No. 20 UCF 5-2
by Bret Clein
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The 15th ranked Florida State women’s tennis team (3-0, 0-0) took down No. 20 UCF (2-1) 5-2 to remain unbeaten in the early 2019 season.
“That was very much like we expected it to be,” said head coach Jennifer Hyde. “That is a very good team that is not going to lose a lot of matches this year. They are very talented and very deep but so are we. We played big points well today. We were very poised and composed even when we were not quite firing like we usually do. I loved the poised and I loved the no back down attitude we had up and down the line.”
The Noles captured the first doubles win on court three as senior Ariana Rahmanparast and junior Nandini Das seized court 6-4. UCF tied it up on court one with a 6-4 win of their own. Court two was back and forth as the Noles took an early 2-1 lead. The Knights tied it up at 3-3 before junior Carla Touly and sophomore Petra Hule jumped out to a 5-3 lead before finishing off their opponent 7-5 to clinch the doubles point.
“It was very exciting doubles to start the match. We had some chances to end it early but at this point in the season you do not expect things to come easy and we had to work harder for that one.”
Rahmanparast gave the Garnet and Gold a quick 2-0 lead as she dominated her opponent on court five 6-2, 6-1. Sophomore Emmanuelle Salas gave the Seminoles an insurmountable lead as she took court three 6-4, 6-1.
UCF grabbed their first point on court four 6-1, 7-5, but Florida State bounced back to clinch the match as senior Ana Oparenovic won 6-3, 7-5 on court two.
With the match already clinched sophomore, Andrea Garcia earned a 6-4, 6-4 win on court six. The match ended with the Noles winning 5-2 after Touly fell on court one for her first loss of the season.
“Jumping out to five first set leads feeds confidence to the girls,” said Hyde. “Against a team like UCF that is very powerful to have that on your side. It was a good battle and what we expected. The outcome was exactly what we were hoping for. That was a hard-earned win for us. There is no doubt today we got better but we still have a long way to go.”

No. 15 Women’s Tennis Comes Up Short in a Hard Fought Battle to Tennessee, 4-3.
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The 15th ranked Florida State women’s tennis team (3-1) fell just short of taking down Tennessee (3-0) in the first round of the ITA Kick-Off Weekend.
“I have to give some credit to Tennessee, they came in and were ready to swing away at us from doubles until the last point was hit,” said head coach Jennifer Hyde. “I wish we could have helped ourselves a little more out of some tough situations.”
“We just did not play good enough up and down the line. We have to have every person show up every time we play and we didn’t today and it cost us. It cost us an opportunity to play LSU with a chance to compete at national indoors.”
The Seminoles battled in a hard fought match against the Volunteers that was tied 3-3 and came down to court two.
The Garnet and Gold started the match by capturing the doubles point in a tightly contested match. Florida State dominated court two, taking the match 6-1 before Tennessee tied it up with a 6-3 win on court one. With the doubles point coming down to court three the Seminole pairing of senior Ariana Rahmanparast and junior Nandini Das were down 5-3. They dominated the rest of the match, winning four straight games to take court three 7-5 and the doubles point.
“I was really proud of the fight after getting down at number three doubles, said Hyde. “We did a good job down 3-5 to find a way to get ourselves back into that set and step up our game.”
Tennessee bounced back in singles quickly taking court six to tie the match. Junior Carla Touly fired back to take the match on court one 6-3, 6-4. Once again, the Lady Vols retaliated tying the team score up at two with a win on court four. Tennessee then took their first lead with a win on court five.
“I am very proud of Carla at the top spot,” said Hyde. “She did a great job of holding on. It was a battle of service games and she was able to grab a break in each set against a very seasoned college player. She did a great job of keeping her head and sticking with her game plan and game style. It paid dividends for her today.”
The Seminoles were resilient and continued to fight as sophomore Emmanuelle Salas made a huge comeback to take court three and tie the match. Salas took the first set 6-4 but fell behind 5-1 in the second set. She flipped a switch and went on a run taking the next six games, the second set and the match.
“On court three, Manu won that first set and got behind 1-5 in the second set,” said Hyde. “As soon as she knew she needed to get her point she came roaring back to win six straight games and the match. That tells you a lot about her guts and that is a big positive we will take away from today.”
With the match all tied up at three is came down to reigning ACC Player of the Week, Ana Oparenovic. After losing in the first set in a tiebreak she too fell behind early, 4-1. She showed fight battling all the way back to force a tiebreaker. Trying to force a match-deciding third set, Oparenovic fell just short in the tiebreaker with a valiant effort 7-4.
“Ana did a great job fighting as well,” said Hyde. “7-6, 7-6 tells you the match was a difference of points and we just did not quite get them to fall our way.”
“We have to rebound really quickly heading into another big match-up tomorrow against Clemson. I am eager to see how we respond to this very difficult loss and see what we are made of.”

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The 15th ranked Florida State women’s tennis team (4-1) bounced back from yesterday’s loss to dominate Clemson (4-2) 4-0 in the final match of the ITA Kick-Off Weekend.
“I am very proud of the girls for their effort today, less than 24 hours after a tough loss,” said head coach Jennifer Hyde. “The girls did a really good job taking care of their courts. It was great to get the doubles point. We played very solid on all three spots today. I was happy to see the effort today to bounce back from a heartbreaker last night. That is exactly what needed to happen today. I am very proud of their effort. We are going to take the next couple of days to reset things for the next part of the season.”

Women’s Tennis Sweeps Doubleheader.
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The 14/20th ranked Florida State women’s tennis team (6-1) swept their doubleheader on Saturday, defeating Florida Gulf Coast 4-0 in the morning and North Florida 4-0 in the afternoon. They have now shutout their opponent in five of seven matches this season.
“I am really proud of the girls,” said head coach Jennifer Hyde. “We did a good job today of getting good control of the matches, and everyone is implementing things in to their matches that we are focusing on in practices. That’s exactly how we will continue to improve.”
The day began with an early morning match against FGCU that saw the Seminole dominate. They got off to a hot start in doubles winning quickly on courts one and two. Senior Ariana Rahmanparast and junior Carla Touly were first off winning 6-2 on court two. Senior Julia Mikulski and junior Andrea Garcia followed that up to clinch the doubles point with a 6-2 win of their own on court one.
The Noles got off to a quick start in singles against FGCU as well, winning all six first sets. Rahmanparast won her fifth dual match this spring to give the Noles a 2-0 lead. She shutout her opponent in the first set winning 6-0 and went on to take the second set 6-2. Courts three was the next to finish as sophomore Petra Hule earned her second singles win of the spring with a 6-4, 6-4 win on court three. She was quickly followed up by senior Ana Oparenovic on court one who clinched the match. It was her second match-clinching win of the season.
“We adjusted well to the consistent winds that were a factor today and used the wind to our advantage,” said Hyde. “We played so much indoor tennis this last month and the girls made some great adjustments this week with that change from indoors to outdoors.”
The afternoon did not go much differently than the morning as the Noles ran through North Florida. Florida State swept the doubles point, winning it for their seventh time in as many matches. Rahmanparast and Touly earned the first doubles win with a 6-0 win on court two. Mikulski and Garcia clinched the doubles point with a 6-2 win on court one. The Garnet and Gold rounded out doubles play with a 6-3 win from Das and Oparenovic on court three.
Florida State flew through singles play winning in straight sets on courts one, four and five. Court four was first to finish as Rahmanparast earned a 6-3, 6-0 win. Just seconds after Mikulski clinched her first match of the season and improved to 3-0 in dual matches this spring with a 6-1, 6-3 win on court five.
“Everyone is stepping up, doing their job and taking care of their own courts and their own games,” said Hyde. “It is a great thing to have so much confidence in all eight bodies no matter who is competing in any spot. I am very proud of that total team effort, and we look to grow upon that in the coming months. I was also very happy with the energy we brought out today for both matches.”

Oparenovic was next, winning 6-3, 6-1 on court one. Just seconds after Mikulski clinched her first match of the season and improved to 3-0 in dual matches this spring with a 6-1, 6-3 win on court five.

State Champs: Noles Take Down Florida 4-1.
Florida State is 7-0 against teams from the state of Florida in 2019.
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The 12/20 ranked Florida State women’s tennis team (9-1) earned a statement win over No. 25 Florida Gators (2-3) for the third straight time and second straight time in Gainesville on Tuesday night. The Seminoles took it to Gators defeating them 4-1. The Noles are now 7-0 against teams in the state of Florida including wins over both Miami and Florida.
“First of all…Big congrats to this group of Seminoles who made history tonight as the first team to ever be State Champs,” said head coach Jennifer Hyde. “That is no easy feat to accomplish, but they set their sights on that goal, and just brought it home. I could not be more happy for or proud of this group in the history they just made.”
“We knew this match was going to run deep into the sets, and we did an amazing job closing out our leads. We grabbed five first sets again, which also gave us a big momentum swing. Even when UF pushed in the second sets, we pushed back harder and were a bit more stubborn, and that was a difference maker.”
The match started out hotly contested as both teams had an early lead on one court with the match all even on court one. The Noles started to take the momentum deep into doubles as they took a 4-2 lead on both courts one and three, while court two was all tied up at three. Senior Ariana Rahmanparast and junior Carla Touly got the Noles on the board in doubles with an easy 6-2 win on court three. It improved their doubles record to 4-0 as a pair this spring. Senior Ana Oparenovic and sophomore Emmanuelle Salas clinched the doubles point on court one with a 6-4 win, clinching it on a double fault by the Gators. Sophomore Petra Hule and junior Andrea Garcia were tied 5-5 but were not able to finish.
“It was great to get the momentum from grabbing that doubles point,” said Hyde. “It was a hard-fought doubles point, which against we expected. You could see that regardless of getting that doubles point the girls felt a sense of urgency to get a quick start in singles, and that is exactly what they did.”
Florida State took the momentum from doubles into singles and captured five of six first set. The Garnet and Gold quickly grabbed a 2-0 lead after a dominating performance on court two from Touly. She took it to 39th ranked McCartney Kessler grabbing the second point for the Noles 6-1, 6-1. Touly is now 5-1 in doubles matches and has beaten five ranked players this year.
The third point of the match was grabbed by junior Nandini Das on court four. She cruised through the first set 6-1 but was in a battle in the second set. Das was down 4-3 but continued to fight and force a tiebreaker. Das would go on to win the tiebreaker and take down No. 43 Victoria Emma and give the Noles a 3-0 lead.
Just seconds after Florida inched closer with a 7-5, 7-5 win on court one. This did not phase the Noles as Salas put the dagger in the match with a three-set win over Marlee Zein on court three.
“It was a really good day at the office for everyone across the board,” said Hyde. “We are continuing to take responsibility for our roles. We are continuing to do the right things and make adjustments quickly. That is imperative at this level. When things are going a little sideways we have got to hold on and switch gears. The girls are just finding ways to do that.”
“Every Seminole out there should be proud of what these young ladies are putting together. We will defiantly enjoy this one but there is no doubt that the focus is quickly shifting to Friday night and Duke, the number four team in the country.”

Women’s Tennis Falls in Hard Fought Battle to No. 3 Duke.
Nandini Das wins her eighth straight match.
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The 12th ranked Florida State women’s tennis team (9-2, 1-1) fell to No. 3 Duke (8-1, 1-0) 5-2 on Friday night. “It was a really good match,” said head coach Jennifer Hyde. “We weren’t quite at our level in a couple of spots. The unforced errors by us caused a little bit of a challenge today. We fought hard but did not find the momentum that we needed to have and hold onto for the duration of the match. We gave our self some chances with a great job getting the doubles point. We needed to hold on and push back in the singles match. We came up short today and that is going to happen. I hope we get another opportunity to see them down the road.”
The Noles started the match off strong taking their 10th doubles point of the season. Florida State lost on court one to fall behind in doubles but bounced back to takes courts two and three. Senior Ariana Rahmanparast and junior Carla Touly won their fifth match in a row this spring on court two, 6-1 over Duke’s 56th ranked doubles pair, to tie the doubles point. Duke came out in singles to take four first sets. Duke tied it up with a straight-set win on court five. They then took their first lead of the match with a 6-2, 6-3 win on court one.
On court three sophomore, Emmanuelle Salas was in a battle in the first set. She was going back and forth against 26th ranked Kelly Chen before going into a tiebreak. Duke went on to win the tiebreak and court three to take a 3-1 lead.
Duke clinched the match with a three-set win on court one. Senior Ana Oparenovic won the first set 7-5 before falling in the next two sets.
Junior Nandini Das brought in the Noles first singles win on court four with a 7-5, 3-6, 6-4 win over No. 108 Kaitlyn McCarthy. It was her eighth straight win dating back to the fall and her second straight win over a ranked opponent.

Women’s Tennis Improves to 2-1 in ACC Play with 5-2 win over Virginia Tech.
BLACKSBURG, Va. – The 15th ranked Florida State women’s tennis team
(10-2, 2-1) earned their first ACC road win on Friday with a 5-2 win over Virginia Tech (5-6, 1-3) in Blacksburg.
“Today was a grind out there on court,” said head coach Jennifer Hyde. “We expect to be a little uncomfortable when we come up here to play indoors. The girls did a great job of keeping their minds even though things weren’t firing at our best level. Days like today really challenge the strength of what you have going on in between your ears, and that is what I am most proud of today. It was a hard-earned, gritty ACC road win by our squad.”
Like it has been all season the Seminoles jumped out of the gates with a 1-0 lead after taking the doubles point for the 11th time in 12 matches. On court one senior Ana Oparenovic and sophomore Emmanuelle Salas dominated. The Seminole duo jumped out to a 5-0 lead before winning 6-1. It was their fourth doubles win by not allowing more than one point.
With a 1-0 lead in doubles, the Seminoles were down on courts two and three. After falling behind 2-0 early junior Andrea Garcia and sophomore Petra Hule kept battling to tie the match up at four. After falling behind 5-4 the Noles won three straight games to take court three 7-5 and clinch the doubles point.
Virginia Tech tied the match up early in singles with a 6-4, 6-1 win on court one. The Noles quickly bounced back as senior Ariana Rahmnaparast gathered her fifth straight singles win and eighth of the spring to give the Noles a 2-1 lead. Junior Nandini Das expanded the Noles lead to 3-1 with her ninth straight win. She won on court four 6-4, 6-4.
The final three matches all went to three sets with the match on the line. Garcia came in clutch as usual and took court six in three sets. After losing the first set she took the second in a tiebreaker and the third set in dominant fashion, 6-1.
With the match already clinched, Virginia Tech earned their second point on court two with a three-set win. Salas finished off the match with a win in a tiebreaker. She lost the first set 3-6 before winning the second set 3-6. In the third, she jumped out to a 3-1 lead before her opponent tied things up at four. With things tied up at six-all, Salas dominated the tiebreaker, jumping out to a 5-0 lead before finishing off Virginia Tech 7-1. With that win, she remains tied with Rahmanparast at eight for the most singles wins this season.

Women’s Tennis Takes Down Pitt on the Road, 6-1.
PITTSBURGH, Pa. – The 15th ranked Florida State women’s tennis team (11-2, 3-1) finished their weekend road trip 2-0 with a 6-1 win over Pitt (4-8, 0-6).
“Overall, it was a very solid weekend of play for us,” said head coach Jennifer Hyde. “Anytime you can go on the road in the ACC and grab some road wins is good. You know it is going to be tough and our girls managed it really well. This was a brutal road trip with fighting some weather and some long drives and I am so impressed with how it was a non-issue when it came time to compete.”
As it has been all season the Seminoles took the doubles point. They have now taken 12 of 13 doubles points this year. Senior Ana Oparenovic and junior Nandini Das earned the first doubles win for the Noles with a dominant 6-1 win on court two. The pair is now 2-0 together this season. The doubles point was capped off with an easy win on court three. Junior Andrea Garcia and sophomore Petra Hule improved to 3-0 together after a 6-2 win over Pitt’s Lucas and Perez Noguera.
“We have continued to do a good job in doubles making adjustments and grabbing that doubles point,” said Hyde. “We had a couple of different partnerships in there today and they did a fantastic job of owning their courts.”
After cruising through doubles, the Seminoles put together a dominating performance in singles. Hule gave the Noles a 2-0 lead with a 6-2, 6-3 win on court six. Oparenovic quickly backed that up with a 6-3, 6-2 straight set win on court two.
Senior Julia Mikulski clinched her second match of the season on court four with a 6-2, 6-1 win. With the match already clinched, the Noles kept winning. Junior Carla Touly earned her sixth win over a ranked opponent on court one taking it 7-6, 6-1 over Pitt’s 99th ranked Claudia Bartolome. Das backed her up with another win to give the Noles 6-0 lead with her 10th straight win. She won the first set 6-3 before losing the second 6-3. With the match already clinched the third set was a tiebreaker and Das won that 10-4.
The match finished with Pitt earning their only point. Pitt’s Natsumi Okamoto defeated senior Ariana Rahmanparast 10-7 in a third set tiebreaker.
“It is really good to get a couple more ACC wins under our belt as we head to Austin, Texas to take on No. 9 Texas Friday afternoon. We are going to switch gears very quickly to get ready for that big opportunity.”

AUSTIN, Texas. – The 17th ranked Florida State women’s tennis team (11-3, 3-1) falls to No. 17 Texas (6-2) 4-1 on Friday Afternoon. “It was not the outcome we were hoping for out here in Texas,” said head coach Jennifer Hyde. “You have to give credit to Texas. They played very clean tennis today. They took advantage of opportunities and were a little more solid from the ground.”
“We misfired more than usual today on a few courts and played a bit too passive on others. We battled hard though and fought until the end. It was a battle but we came up short.”
The day got started as most matches have for the Noles this season, they earned the doubles point. Florida State jumped out to an early lead on courts two and three as court one was back and forth. Junior Andrea Garcia and sophomore Petra Hule picked up steam after Texas tied the match at two. The Seminole duo went on to win four of the next five games to take the match 6-3. Garcia and Hule are now 4-0 together this year.
After battling back and forth on court one senior Ana Oparenovic and sophomore Emmanuelle Salas took a 5-3 lead. Texas battled to narrow the lead to 5-4 before Florida State took court one 6-4 and the doubles point.
“We did an excellent job in doubles,” said Hyde. “We came out of the gate strong, with a lot of aggression and set the tone for the entire doubles point, all three courts. We are continuing to improve with that. I was really happy with how we started the day off.”
In singles, Texas jumped out to take four first sets and two early points. Court four was the first to finish as Texas’s 96th ranked Bojana Markovic defeated 109th ranked Nandini Das 6-2, 6-3. Texas then took their first lead of the match with a win on court five.
The Longhorns expanded their lead to 3-1 with a three-set win on court six and then clinched the match with another three-set win on court two.
“Four three-setters against one of the best teams in the country shows we are not too far off,” said Hyde. “Our best tennis is ahead of us, as I think everyone would agree that we weren’t quite at our best across the board.”
“We took our foot off the accelerator (in a few spots) heading into singles and we have to stay stronger and more aggressive at the start of singles. We did not play our best tennis today across the board today, but everyone knows we still have far to climb which keeps us excited looking ahead to another pair of ACC match-ups next week.”

Noles Take Down Georgia Tech, 4-3.
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The 22nd ranked Florida State women’s tennis team (12-3, 4-1) takes down No. 31 Georgia Tech (6-7, 3-3) 4-3 led behind the impressive play by sophomore Emmanuelle Salas.
“That was an absolute dogfight of a match today, which is pretty much expected every time we lace it up on gameday in the ACC,” said head coach Jennifer Hyde. “It took a complete team effort to leave Atlanta with the 4-3 win. It’s hard to put a price tag on the value of these types of wins, but I know for certain this team got a lot stronger today through their efforts and success in this match.”
For the 14th time in 15 matches, the Noles grabbed the doubles point. They took early 2-1 leads on all three courts before the Yellow Jackets started to fight back. Senior Ana Oparenovic along with Salas earned the first doubles win on court four, 6-4. They were quickly backed up by junior Andrea Garcia and sophomore Petra Hule on court two who won 6-4.
“Doubles was toe to toe on all three courts, and we did a great job of being more aggressive at the right times and in big points,” said Hyde. “The girls did a great job of playing smart and aggressive in doubles. That was the difference maker.”
Florida State quickly grabbed its second team point as Salas won 6-3, 6-0 on court two. Georgia Tech punched back on court six to make the team score 2-1.
“Manu getting our second point on the board so quickly was really important,” said Hyde. “Her opponent was serving underhanded the whole match, which can throw some people off mentally, but she was unfazed after the first couple looks at it and she took complete control of her match.”
Hule earned her fourth dual match win on court five to make it 3-1. She took an early 3-0 lead in the first set and turned that into a 6-4 set win. She then jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the second set before winning it 6-2.
“Pep had a really solid day of tennis all-around today, and did a stellar job of playing a complete match of very solid tennis,” said Hyde. “She and Dre continue to raise their level in doubles, and are making some solid adjustments in their matches that really makes them tough to play against.”
Georgia Tech grabbed court one to narrow the lead to 3-2 and then came back in the third set to grab court three to tie the team score at three.
With the match on the line, senior Julia Mikulski took the first set 6-2 before losing the second 7-5. In the third set, she jumped out to a 3-1 lead before Georgia Tech narrowed it to 5-4. Julia came away with a 6-4 win for her sixth win of the spring and the match.
“Jules got to be in the pressure cooker today, last match on, team score tied 3-3, in the third and final set, and all eyes on her court,” said Hyde. “She handled the moment with so much poise and stayed very much in control throughout, whether winning or losing points in that final set. That situation can be overwhelming if you let it, but every single player on this team wants to carry the weight of that moment on their shoulders for their sisters. I’m so thrilled for Jules to get her moment tonight, in such a big occasion, for this team.”

Women’s Tennis Takes Down No. 14 Wake Forest 5-2.
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The 20th ranked Florida State women’s tennis team (15-4, 7-2) upset No. 14 Wake Forest (17-4, 8-2) at the Scott Speicher Memorial Tennis Center 5-2 on Friday.
“We did another great job of getting the doubles point,” said head coach Jennifer Hyde. “We did what we needed to do but we still need to improve. We are playing with a lot of confidence and when we do that we play aggressive and that is what I like to see out of this team.” Once again the Noles started the day by taking the doubles point. This is the 17th time in 19 matches that they have done so and they are 13-4 when that happens. The Noles jumped out to an early lead on courts one and two and they kept them throughout the match. Senior Ana Oparenovic and sophomore Emmanuelle Salas were the first to win their doubles court as they won 6-2 on court one. Wake Forest tied up the doubles point with a 6-1 win on court three but the Noles clinched it with a 6-3 win on court two from senior Ariana Rahmanparast and junior Carla Touly.
“We got down early in a few spots in singles but did a fantastic job of hanging in it and finding our way back into them,” said Hyde. “You expect every match in the ACC to be a battle and that is what that was. I am proud of these girls for pulling off a top-15 win.”
Florida State took that momentum into singles winning three first sets and turning those into three straight-set wins. Rahmanparast jumped out to a 5-1 first set lead before finishing off her opponent 6-3. In the second set, she jumped out to a quick lead as well going up 3-1 before taking the set 6-2 to give FSU a 2-0 lead.
Oparenovic extended the lead to 3-0 with a straight-set win of her own on court two. Down 3-1 she stormed back to take five of the final six games on her way to a 6-4 first set win. In the second set she too took an early lead and kept it on her way to winning 6-3.
Junior Andrea Garcia clinched the match with a win on court six. Garcia came back from an early deficit to tie the match at five in the first set. Down 3-4 she went on to win four of the final six games to take the first set 7-5. She dominated the second set on her way to a 6-1 win.
With the match already clinched Wake Forest earned their first two team points with wins on courts three and four.
The match was capped off by a huge win by Touly. She went down 4-0 in the first set and came back to force a tiebreak that she lost. In the second set, she once again went down early, this time 3-1. She was able to come back to win the second set 6-4 over 32nd ranked Emma Davis. In the third set super-breaker, Touly jumped out to an 8-4 lead before finishing her opponent off 10-5 to secure the 5-2 Seminole win.
“It is difficult sometimes when the match is decided and you are still playing,” said Hyde. “You have to go from playing for your team to playing for your pride. She had to switch gears mentally and I like her in those situations. She did a fantastic job today and I am proud of her.”
“We certainly want to enjoy this match because we know these types of wins don’t come easy,” said Hyde. “We need to quickly turn our sights to another ACC match on Sunday against Clemson.”

Women’s Tennis Takes Down Clemson 5-2.
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The 20th ranked Florida State women’s tennis team (16-4, 8-2) finished off the weekend with a 5-2 win over Clemson (8-12, 2-8) at home.
“I am never going to underestimate a good ACC win and another check in the W box,” said head coach Jennifer Hyde. “Everyone is doing a good job but we made things a little more difficult than was necessary in a few spots but also did a good job of hanging in even when not feeling completely comfortable in moments.”
Just like it has been all season the Seminoles earned the doubles point. They have now taken a 1-0 lead in 18 of 20 doubles matches. Senior Ariana Rahmanparast and junior Carla Touly earned the first doubles win of the day with a 6-2 win on court two. They are now 9-2 together including winning their last four. Junior Andrea Garcia and sophomore Petra Hule finished off the Tigers in doubles win a 7-5 win on court three. They are now 9-1 together. Senior Ana Oparenovic and sophomore Emmanuelle Salas were up 5-4 against the No. 4 doubles team in the country but the match was unfinished.
“Another doubles point is always good to see,” said Hyde. “The girls are also implementing some things in doubles that we are talking about on the practice court. As they keep doing that, our doubles play will only continue to improve. Everyone is doing a good job, and the momentum continues to grow.’
Singles was a battle as the Noles took four first sets. They turned that into five second sets and three team points. Salas was first to finish as she won the first set 6-4. The second set was a fight as Salas and her opponent went back and forth. Down 6-5 Salas tied it up and took a 5-1 lead in the tiebreaker. She went on to win the tiebreaker 7-5 and give FSU a 2-0 lead.
Rahmanparast was next as she took court five. She claimed the first set 6-4 and the second set 6-3 on her way to her 11th dual match win of the spring. Oparenovic clinched the match with, win on court two. She cruised through the first set 6-0 and took a 3-0 lead in the second before her opponent tied it at four and then took a 5-4 lead. Ana took the last three games and clinched the match.
With the match already in the bag, Hule extended the team score lead to 5-0. After losing the first set 6-4, she came back to take the final two sets. She won the second set 6-3 and dominated the third 6-1 en route to her sixth dual match win this spring.
Clemson then grabbed their only two team points on courts one and six. 125th ranked Marie Leduc lost the first set to Touly 6-3 on court one before coming back to grab the final two sets 6-2, 6-3. Clemson then finished off the match with a three-set win on court six.
“Walking out of the weekend with two ACC wins was our exact goal and the girls executed it,” said Hyde. “We will enjoy these wins, and will discuss and learn exactly where we can continue to grow and improve. Then get back out to the practice court to prepare for another road trip next weekend with two huge ACC opportunities in front of us.”

Women’s Tennis Upsets No. 10 NC State.
RALEIGH, N.C. – The 13th ranked Florida State women’s tennis team (17-5, 9-2) upset No. 10 NC State (20-4, 10-2) in Raleigh 4-3 on Sunday. Sophomore Emmanuelle Salas proved to be too much for the Wolfpack as she clinched the match in a tiebreaker on court three.
“What an impressive turn around by our group. To lose the doubles point and then jump out to take five first sets at the start of singles,” said head coach Jennifer Hyde. “We often talk about the importance of having a short memory in tennis, and that mentality was very well executed today. That was a tremendous effort to take four singles matches from a top-10 team. Moving forward, that fact gives us so much more confidence in our singles potential.”
For just the third time this season the Seminoles fell behind 1-0 after losing the doubles point. NC State took courts one and three as junior Carla Touly and senior Ariana Rahmanparast won on court two 6-4.
The Noles jumped out to take four first sets, and that was all that they need to get the job done. Junior Nandini Das dominated all day on her way to a 6-1, 6-1 win on court four to tie the match at one. Fellow junior Andrea Garcia followed it up with a dominating win of her own on court six, 6-3, 6-1.
“For Das to come out of gates so fast like she did to put that first point on the board and even things at 1-1 was critical for our momentum,” said Hyde. “Then just after, Dre followed up with her own big effort and made quick work at court six. Those two were lights out for us today.”
With a 2-1 lead, NC State won two straight with wins on court one and five to take a 3-2 lead. Down, but not out, the Noles went on to win the final two courts. Senior Ana Oparenovic tied the match at three with a three-set win on court three. She took the first set 6-3 before losing the second set in a tiebreaker. Oparenovic dominated the final set jumping out to a 5-0 lead before clinching the match 6-2.
With the match on the line, it all came down to Salas. She took the first set 7-5 before losing the second set in a tiebreaker. The final set went to a tiebreaker as well as Salas came away victorious with a win in the breaker.
“We had some chances in the second sets of both Ana and Manu’s matches to finish the job earlier, but credit to NC State for pushing us to third sets in those spots,” said Hyde. “In the end, we hung around well and gave ourselves the chances we needed to seal it up down the stretch. We expect to be pushed to our limits in this conference, and I’m so pleased with how we responded to that push today.”
“Not to be cliché, but our team demonstrated the complete meaning of perseverance today. That wins big moments, that grows belief, and this team gained so much through their perseverance over the span of this entire weekend. We are improving, we are getting there, and today was another positive step in the direction we want to go. I could not be more proud of this team. They earned every bit of what they got.”

Women’s Tennis Comes From Behind to Take Down No. 19 Virginia 4-3.
The Seminoles have clinched a top four seed in the ACC Tournament for the first
time in program history.
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The 12th ranked Florida State women’s tennis team (18-5, 10-3) repeated what they accomplished on Sunday as they took down No. 19 Virginia (17-5, 9-4) in dramatic fashion. With the win, the Noles have guaranteed themselves a double bye in the ACC Tournament and have all but guaranteed themselves a national seed in the NCAA Tournament.
“That was not short of excitement,” said head coach Jennifer Hyde. “The doubles point got away from us again today and we got down four first sets. For a little bit of time there, it looked a little hairy. The girls did a fantastic job of fighting themselves back into that match. It was a good team effort tonight. Getting four singles wins against a top-20 opponent is tough.”
“We have solidified a top-four seed and a double bye in the ACC Tournament and that is a program first. We have been a five seed a number of times. This was a goal that the girls set back in the fall as well as hosting NCAAs. They have solidified that tonight. I am so proud of them and so happy for them.”
For the third match in a row, the Seminoles fall behind 1-0 after losing the doubles point. Virginia struck first with a 6-4 win from their number three pair but the Noles punched back with a 6-3 win on court two by senior Ariana Rahmanparast and junior Carla Touly. The doubles point came down to court one. Senior Ana Oparenovic and sophomore Emmanuelle Salas fell behind 2-0 before evening it up at two. The Seminole duo took a 4-3 lead but lost three games in a row to sacrifice the doubles point.
The Garnet and Gold tied things up in singles with a quick win on court two. After clinching the match against NC State last Sunday, Salas got an easy win. She fell behind 3-1 early in the first set but came back to win five of the final six games to take the set 6-4. In the second set, she dominated, sweeping her opponent 6-0.
Virginia struck back quickly with a 6-2, 6-1 win on court one. UVA extended their lead to 3-1 with a 6-3, 6-0 win on court four by 116th ranked Chloe Gullickson.
Florida State was not fazed as they came back to take the final three courts. It all started with junior Andrea Garcia on court six. She jumped out to a 5-2 lead in the first set but allowed her opponent back in the match as she was taken to a tiebreaker. Garcia took the tiebreaker 9-7 and the second set 6-3 to narrow Virginia’s lead to 3-2.
Oparenovic was next tying the match up at three with a three-set win on court three. She lost the first set 6-4 to 90th ranked Amber O’Dell but came back with vengeance, taking the final two sets 6-0, 6-1.
With the match all tied up, it came down to Rahmanparast on court five. She had lost the first set 6-4. She knew she needed to force a third set for the team to have a chance and she did just that. She took the second set 7-5. The final set for the match was a battle that eventually headed into a tiebreaker. Rahmanparast fell behind 3-1 but she would not let her opponent score another point as she won six points in a row to seal the match.
“Nothing comes easy,” said coach Hyde. “It would have been nice to walk out of here with a 7-0 sweep this time of the year but that is just not how things go down in this conference, ever. I am glad that we have the guts and are challenging ourselves. I am most proud of these girls.”

Women’s Tennis Dominates Louisville On Senior Day.
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The 12th ranked Florida State women’s tennis team (19-5, 11-3) dominated Louisville (10-14, 2-12) 7-0 on Senior Day. With 11 ACC wins, the Noles have captured more ACC wins in a season than any team in program history.
“Senior day is always going to be emotional for those who have given so much to the program over the years,” said head coach Jennifer Hyde. “Being able to celebrate what they have been a part of over the last couple of years of their career always brings out the emotions and we managed it well.”
“It was an excellent job sweeping our final home match and final match of the season. Being able to achieve more ACC wins than any team in the history of this program speaks volumes on what these girls have set their sights on.”
After the pre-match festivities came to an end the Garnet and Gold took all three doubles courts from the Cardinals. Florida State fell behind early on courts two and three but that did not matter as they took all three courts. Senior Ana Oparenovic and sophomore Emmanuelle Salas were first off with a 6-2 win on court one. The two are now 12-6 this spring. Senior Ariana Rahmanparast and junior Carla Touly clinched the doubles point with a 6-2 win of their own on court two. Junior Andrea Garcia and sophomore Petra Hule wrapped up doubles play with a 6-4 win on court three.
The Noles dominated singles play as well. Hule was the first to finish with a 6-2, 6-1 win on court four and she was followed up shortly after by Oparenovic on court three who won 6-1, 6-2.
Rahmanparast clinched the match with the 152nd win of her career. She won 6-0, 6-4 on court six. Salas gave the Noles a 5-0 lead with the fourth straight-set singles win for the Noles. She took the first set 6-4 and followed that up with a 6-4 win in the second set on court two.
Touly made it 6-0 with a dominant win on court one. She took the first set 6-3 and followed that up with a 6-2 win in the second set. Senior Julia Mikulski capped off the sweep with a three-set win on court five. She lost the first set 6-4 before coming back to take the second set 6-2. In the final super-breaker, Mikulski was down 4-2 before coming back to win 10-7.
“We are going to wrap this one up with a nice bow and the new season will begin on Sunday, the championship season,” said Hyde. “All of this will be behind us and the trajectory we need to be on right now is exactly where it needs to be heading into the biggest time of the year.”
The Seminoles begin ACC Tournament play on Friday after a double bye.

Women’s Tennis Advances to ACC Semifinals With 4-0 Win Over Wake Forest.
The Seminoles will play at 2 pm tomorrow against the winner of Virginia
and Duke
DURHAM, N.C. – After a change of venues, the Florida State women’s tennis team took care of business, defeating Wake Forest 4-0 to advance to the ACC Semifinals.
“Today has been a very long day with the tornado warnings, the delay in play and playing until 9:20 at night,” said head coach Jennifer Hyde. “The girls did an amazing job being emotionally flexible on days like this. They did a fantastic job of not making any excuses when it was time to go. We got better today, we got better as a team, not just because we won but how we won. Every single spot got better today and at this time in the season, you really want to see that and see people improving. This is where you need to hit that next level and we did that today. It makes me really excited heading into tomorrow’s match.”
Florida State took care of the Demon Deacons in doubles taking a 1-0 advantage, as they had so often this season. Junior Andrea Garcia and sophomore Petra Hule were off first as they dominated court three winning 6-2. Senior Ana Oparenovic and sophomore Emmanuelle Salas were next clinching the doubles point with a 6-3, 6-3 win on court one.
The Garnet and gold got off to a quick start in singles taking all six first sets. They turned that into three-second sets and the match. Oparenovic cruised to a win on court three taking the first set 6-4 and the second set 6-2 to give FSU a 2-0 lead.
Junior Carla Touly was next as she dominated 34th ranked Emma Davis on court one. Down 3-2, Touly won the next four games to take the first set 6-3. She jumped out to a 3-2 lead in the second set and turned that into another 6-3 win, giving FSU an insurmountable 3-0 lead.
Salas finished off Wake Forest on court two. She won the first set 6-4 but fell behind 4-2 in the second set. She battled back to take five of the final six games and the set 7-5.

Women’s Tennis Comes Up Short Against No. 3 Duke 4-3.
CARY, N.C. – The Florida State women’s tennis team (20-6) battled until the end but fell just short to third-ranked Duke (23-2) 4-3 in the ACC Tournament semifinals.
“I am really proud of the girls today,” said head coach Jennifer Hyde. “They put up a great fight. Carla really battled and took out one of the top players in the country and Manu did the same getting a great win on her birthday. I am really happy of her. Petra took on a seasoned vet and played a complete match fighting off a 4-2 deficit to clinch that point. I am really proud of her as well. We had some opportunities with second set tiebreakers. We just didn’t get it done but I think we will learn from them and move forward heading into the NCAA Championships.”
For just the sixth time all year, the Seminoles faced a 1-0 deficit after doubles. Duke swept the doubles point with 6-3 wins on all three courts.
The Seminoles battled in singles. They won just two first sets but it was much closer than that. Sophomore Petra Hule tied the match at one with a win on court four. She jumped out to a quick 4-1 lead in the first set before Duke’s Kaitlyn McCarthy made a run to bring it to 4-3. Hule took the final two games of the set to win it 6-3. In the second, she went down 5-4 before winning the final three games to take the second set and the match.
Junior Carla Touly then gave the Seminoles their first lead of the match with a huge win on court one over 12th ranked Maria Mateas. Touly jumped out to a 4-2 lead in the first set before taking the set 6-4. She went up 4-2 once again in the second set on her way to taking the set 6-3 and the match to give FSU a 2-1 lead.
Duke tied it up once again with a win on court three. Senior Ana Oparenovic was up against 27th ranked Kelly Chen. She lost the first set 6-3 and battled in the second set before losing 10-8 in a tiebreaker. The Blue Devils then retook the lead with a 6-2, 7-6(4) win on court six over junior Andrea Garcia.
The Garnet and Gold tied the match up again with another top-25 win, this time on court two. Sophomore Emmanuelle Salas defeated 25th ranked Meible Chi in three sets. She lost the first 6-2 but came back to take the final two sets. She took the second set 7-5 and cruised to a 6-2 win in the final set.
With the match on the line, it came down to junior Nandini Das on court five. Das lost the first set 6-3 and was down 2-1 in the second set. She came back to take a 4-3 lead but Duke’s Ellyse Hamlin took the next two games and a 5-4 lead. Das tied it back up to force a tiebreaker in the second set but fell just short losing it 7-4.
“We needed to get through those tiebreakers but we just did not have enough time,” said Hyde. “Looking ahead to NCAAs is very exciting because we are playing better tennis and they are fighting so hard on court for each other. This one stings but we just went toe to toe with one of the best teams in the country and the separation was points.”

No. 11 FSU Women’s Tennis Opens NCAA Tournament Play With A 4-0 Win.
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – It had been eight years since the FSU women hosted an NCAA tennis regional in Tallahassee and the 11th-ranked Seminoles looked like a team deserving of the role. In a match that took just over 90 minutes, FSU swept fourth-seeded South Alabama (22-5).
“It is really good to have the first match of the championships behind us,” said head coach Jenn Hyde. “We just want to continue to build more momentum.”
The Seminoles did not drop a set Friday afternoon as junior Carla Touly set the tone. The 31st-ranked player staked the Seminoles to a 2-0 lead with a swift 6-0, 6-1 win after FSU secured the doubles point earlier. Petra Hule and Andrea Garcia followed soon after with straight set wins to secure the match.
“It was important that we were efficient today. We did a great job at every spot of just taking care of the work, not a lot of wasted energy,” said Hyde. “We stayed focused on the task. It was exactly what it needed to be.”
The 4-0 win was much needed as FSU’s next opponent UCF rolled to a 4-0 win as well. The Golden Knights (23-3) upset No.2 seed Alabama to set up a rematch from a January meeting between the two schools. The Seminoles won that match 5-2 but UCF has won 21 of its last 23 matches since that meeting.
“We had a great battle with UCF earlier this season,” said Hyde. “This is a new season, a new time, a new match and a new lineup. Everything right now is a clean slate. It’s important tomorrow we come out swinging, playing confidently and continue to do what we’ve been doing well the last four months.”

Women’s Tennis Season Comes to an End in NCAA Second Round.
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The season came to an end for the Florida State women’s tennis team (21-7) on Saturday in Tallahassee after a 4-1 loss to No. 24 UCF (24-3).
“I love these girls. It is an incredible group of young ladies,” said head coached Jennifer Hyde. “They’ve done amazing things this year. They’ll be stamped in the history books to be the best team ever to come through this program. They have a lot to be proud of and a lot of reasons to hold their heads high.”
The Seminoles had an impressive season earning 21 wins for the fourth time in program history and the second time in the last two season. The Noles also earned their most ACC wins in a season with 11, earning them a three seed in the ACC Tournament. Florida State also earned a program-high team ranking when they were ranked 10th earlier in the season.
After an over four-hour delay, the Noles and Knights got off to a battle in doubles. Florida State grabbed court three as junior Andrea Garcia and sophomore Petra Hule won 6-4. UCF tied the doubles point up with a 6-4 win of their own on court two. Senior Ana Oparenovic and sophomore Emmanuelle Salas took an early 5-1 lead on court one before they would go on to lose the final six games and lose court one and the doubles point.
“The delay is what it is,” said Hyde. “Both sides had to deal with the same circumstance. It’s not a reason or an excuse. Bottom line is UCF did a great job. They just punched us in the throat. When they were down they punched us in the throat…when they were up and they came in here on a mission. They were better than us today, hands down. Big credit to them. They were not going to be denied today. We didn’t quite go for it when we needed to go for it today. We played a little to protect instead of to prove…credit to UCF they earned it for sure.”
Florida State came out in singles and took three first sets. Salas got the Noles on the board as she tied the match at one dominating 82nd ranked Ksenia Kuznetsova 6-1, 6-1 on court two.
UCF then took back the lead with a 6-2, 6-4 win on court four. They expanded their lead to 3-1 with a 6-2, 6-4 win on court six and then clinched the match with a 6-3, 6-4 win on court one.

Poullain jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the second set after a break and a held
serve. Sandkaulen broke back to tie the match at two before the two swapped points to keep the match tied at three. Sandkaulen took a 6-5 lead before breaking Poullain to take the second set 7-5 and

LAKE NONA, Fla. – Senior Ana Oparenovic and sophomore Emmanuelle Salas lost in the first round of the NCAA Singles Championship to South Carolina’s third-ranked doubles pair of Ingrid Gamarra Martins and Mia Horvit.
Salas and Oparenovic swapped service games with Martins and Horvit to begin the first set. That was the only point the Noles would see in the first set as they would go on to lose 6-1.
In the second set, Florida State exchanged points with South Carolina until they broke the Gamecock duo to take a 3-2 lead that they turned into 4-2. Martins and Horvit broke back to tie the match up at four and took a 5-4 lead after holding on serve. South Carolina broke Florida State to take the final game of the match and the second set 6-4.
