Women's Tennis Wins 4-3 Thriller Over Auburn.
TALLAHASSEE, FL - Florida State freshmen Suzanna Mansour and Ania Rynarzewska put on an incredible performance in the No. 3 doubles tiebreaker to cap off Florida State's thrilling 4-3 win over Auburn Monday at the Scott Speicher Tennis Center. Juniors Nicola Slater and Carolin Walter were also in on the dramatics as their win helped the Seminoles garner their much-needed doubles point.
"One of the things I was most excited about," said Florida State head coach Jennifer Hyde, "was to see our freshmen play with that pressure and see how they handled it. It was an unbelievable team effort tonight. I thought it was amazing to see Suzanna and Ania, as two freshmen, step it up. They just decided they were going to do it and were so committed. They had huge guts and that's why they won the match."
Due to the chance of showers in the area, officials decided to play singles first and a 3-3 tie entering doubles action provided a spectacular showdown between the two schools. At court 2, Auburn's Whitney Chappell and Tori Almagano took the first doubles match with an 8-4 win over sophomore Tapiwa Marobela and senior Alina Mihailescu. After tying it up 6-6 and 7-7, the Slater/Walters duo broke free and defeated Lee Tippins and Alex Haney 9-7 at doubles No. 1.
"At No. 1 doubles the players competed with a lot of heart," said Hyde, who is in her second season as the net boss at Florida State. "We decided to move more and we were more aggressive than they were. We believed in what we were doing and it paid off."
All eyes focused on court three as Mansour and Rynarzewska battled Ashley Cowart and Erin Gray for the win. The Seminole pair took a 7-5 lead before Auburn answered back and tied it up 8-8 to force a tiebreaker.
In the tiebreaker, Florida State jumped out to a quick 4-1 gain but the Tigers eventually evened it up at 5-all. However, Mansour and Rynarzewska showed their heroics and grabbed the final two points for the 7-5 win.
In singles play, No. 18 Walter needed just 40 minutes to roll over Cowart 6-1, 6-0 at court one for the first point. Mansour also won in straight sets for Florida State, defeating Tori Almagano 6-1, 6-0 at court five. The Seminoles earned their third point from Mihailescu as she upended Erin Gray 7-6(3), 6-3 at No. 6 singles.
FSU dropped matches at courts 2, 3, and 4. Rynarzewska fell in a 6-3, 6-3 battle to Chappell and Auburn's Dzeljan Memisis rallied for a three-set victory (6-2, 6-4, 6-2) over Slater. In a match that lasted almost three hours, Marobela stumbled in a three-set affair against Alex Haney by scores of 6-7(4), 7-5, and 6-4.
"We have a lot to work on with singles," commented Hyde. "We are not being aggressive enough in singles...we're not taking advantage of our deep balls or short balls that we can move up and be aggressive on. However, the good thing that I am seeing is that they are competing really hard. They are leaving everything out there. All in all, I thought it was a very exciting win tonight."

Women's Tennis Remains Undefeated With 6-1 Win Over Stetson.
TALLHASSEE, FL - The Florida State women's tennis, under the direction of head coach Jennifer Hyde, kept its perfect record intact Sunday with a 6-1 victory over Stetson at Scott Speicher Tennis Center. The Seminoles improved to 4-0 on the season while the Hatters dropped to 3-3.
Playing without their top-ranked player, No. 18 Carolin Walter, the Seminoles relied on young players at the top of the lineup. At No. 1 singles, sophomore Tapiwa Marobela defeated Mili Milovanovic 6-0, 6-2 and freshman Ania Rynarzewska upended Maja Miladinovic 6-1, 6-4 at the second position. FSU freshman Suzanna Mansour, one of two Seminoles who own an undefeated singles record, took care of Marina Levin by scores of 6-1, 6-2 at the No. 3 singles position.
The Seminoles garnered victories at the No. 4 and 6 positions, respectively. Junior Nicola Slater swept Anna Leonenko (6-0, 6-0) and junior Whitney Eber toppled Samantha Lange 6-0, 6-3. The Hatters earned their only win of the day at the No. 5 position when Catherine Canady defeated senior Alina Mihailescu 4-6, 6-3, 10-7.
For the third straight time this season, the Seminoles earned the doubles point. Without Walter in the lineup, Hyde was forced to mix the doubles teams so Slater and Maroblea paired up at No. 1 and took an 8-2 win over Milovanovic and Levin. Stetson answered back at the No. 2 doubles position when Canady/Leonenko upended the Seminoles' Mansour/Mihailescu duo, 8-6. At the third spot, Eber and Rynarzewska recorded an 8-1 victory against Lange and Mollman.

FSU Women's Tennis Drops First Match Of The Season To No. 2 Florida.
GAINESVILLE, FL - Playing without its top singles player and the 18th-ranked player in the country, Carolin Walter (Bingen, Germany), the Florida State women's tennis dropped a 7-0 decision to No. 2 Florida Wednesday evening at Linder Stadium at Ring Tennis Complex. The Seminoles fell to 4-1 on the season while the Gators improved to 5-0.
Without Walter, the Seminoles were forced to rearrange the doubles lineup and therefore suffered setbacks on all three courts. At court one, the Tapiwa Marobela (Gaborone, Botswana) and Nicola Slater (Ayr, Scotland) duo fell 8-5 to Whitney Benik and Alexis Gordon. At the second position, Whitney Eber (Naples, Fla.) and Alina Mihailescu (Constanta, Romania) came up short to Lolita Frangulyan and Diana Srebrovic, 8-4. At No. 3 doubles, Florida's Keri Robinson and Nina Suvak edged Suzanna Mansour (Greenacres, Fla.) and Ania Rynarzewska (Inowroclaw, Poland) 8-7 (7-4).
For the first time this season, the Seminoles dropped all six singles matches. The Gators' Benik provided the clinching dual match victory over Slater at the No. 3 position, as she posted a 6-0, 6-0 victory. At No. 1 singles, Marobela recorded her first loss at the top spot this season, falling 6-2, 6-0 to Gordon.
Mansour registered her first defeat of the season at court No. 4 with a 6-1, 6-2 loss to Suvak. UF's Srebrovic posted a 6-1, 6-2 victory over Rynarzewska at the No. 2 position. Srebrovic lost her serve to start the match, but settled down and won the next 10 games, serving out at love to take the match.
On court No. 6, Eber came up short 6-0, 6-4 to Liles. Liles found herself down a break at 3-1 in the second, but broke back in the sixth game and again in the eighth before breaking one final time in the last game to win the straight set decision.
After leading 3-0 and up two breaks at the start of the match, Mihailescu lost the next six games and dropped the first set 6-3 to Frangulyan at court No. 5. The pair traded serves to begin the second set, which was on-serve until Frangulyan broke in the seventh game and again in the final game to win 6-3.

Women's Tennis Improves To 6-1 With Ranked Victory Over Troy.
TALAHASSEE, FL - The Florida State women's tennis team recorded its biggest victory of the season Saturday afternoon as it edged No. 72 Troy (2-1), 4-3, at Scott Speicher Tennis Center. The win was the second victory of the day for the Seminoles as the team swept Georgia Southern (1-6) in the first match of a doubleheader. With the victory, FSU improved to 6-1 on the season.
"I am very pleased with the way we started in doubles," said Florida State head coach Jennifer Hyde. "We knew that Troy was a dangerous team and our girls really showed up for the match. They fought harder than I've seen them battle all season...it was a very competitive match. With a little more consistency and discipline in singles we came out on top."
The No. 56 Seminoles won the doubles point after clinching victories in the Nos. 2 and 3 doubles spots. At doubles No. 2, Alina Mihailescu and Whitney Eber downed Rawia Elsisi and Nicole Shaw, 8-3, and freshmen Seminoles Suzanna Mansour and Anna Rynarzewska toppled Shamiaa Elsisi and Annabelle Bares, 8-2, in the third slot.
Florida State claimed singles victories in the Nos. 4, 5, and 6 spots to win the match. At court five, Mansour was back to her winning ways as she beat Troy's Caroline Jouanin 6-2, 6-2 and the Seminoles took the early 2-0 lead. After dropping a match at court three (2-1), FSU clinched the win as Slater and Eber cruised to straight victories. Slater upended Bares 7-6, 6-1 and Eber overpowered Elsisi 6-3, 6-7, 7-2.
Against Georgia Southern, the Seminoles won the match 7-0 and freshman Lisa Nystrom Skold clinched her first dual singles victory at No. 6.

Seminoles Slip To LSU, 5-2.
TALLAHASSEE, FL - Despite giving a hard fight, the No. 57-ranked Florida State women's tennis team dropped a 5-2 decision to No. 43 Louisiana State Wednesday night at Scott Speicher Tennis Center. With the loss, the Seminoles fell to 6-2 on the season and the Tigers improved to 5-1 overall.
For just the second time all season, the Seminoles failed to clinch the doubles point after picking up just one victory at court No. 2. Florida State's Suzanna Mansour (Greenacres, Fla.) and Ania Rynarzewska (Inowroclaw, Poland) improved to an impressive 5-1 as a pair after beating Marina Chiarelli and Mykala Hedberg, 8-3. At the top court sophomore Tapiwa Marobela (Gaborone, Botswana) and junior Nicola Slater (Ayr, Scotland) slipped 8-5 to Lauren Seaman and Tiffany Tucker while the Tigers' Camila Caliari and Daysi Espinal beat junior Whitney Eber (Naples, Fla.) and senior Alina Mihailescu (Constanta, Romania), 8-3.
LSU built the lead to 2-0 with a victory on court one before Slater picked up a 7-5, 6-2 win in the fourth slot against Anastasiya Dubuva to put the Seminoles within one. However, the Tigers answered back at court six when Caliari defeated Eber 6-0, 7-5 for the 3-1 LSU lead.
Florida State gave a gutsy performance at courts 2, 3 and 5 and attempted a comeback. However, the Tigers' Tucker defeated Mansour in the fifth slot (6-4, 3-6, 6-3) for the Louisiana State victory. Mihailescu eventually fell to Chirelli at No. 3 (3-6, 6-2, 6-3) while Rynarzewska picked up a respectable 4-6, 7-6(5), 6-1 victory versus Seaman in the No. 2 position.

FSU Picks Up Its Seventh Win Of The Season Over UAB.
TALLAHASSEE, FL - Florida State head coach Jennifer Hyde was frustrated, to say the least, after doubles play on Friday against UAB. Her team had just dropped its second doubles point in as many matches so the second-year head coach relayed a simple message to her players: no more mediocrity.
The Seminoles (7-2) obviously got the message as the Tribe stormed on the courts Friday afternoon and walked away with a 5-2 victory against the Blazers (4-2) thanks to singles wins at Nos. 2-6.
"I made it very clear that how they started out in doubles was not acceptable," said Hyde, a former FSU tennis standout. "Even though some of the teams changed without Suzanna [Mansour] in the lineup...that doesn't mean the rules of the game change. I was frustrated because they strayed away from things we teach them in practice. Before they went back out and played singles I wanted every player to know that it's not okay to be mediocre."
For the second straight match, junior Nicola Slater led the singles charge at No. 4, beating Gulsah Esen by decisive 6-1, 6-2 scores. Junior Whitney Eber, competing in the fifth slot, followed suit and defeated the Blazers' Samrin Tanzeem 6-1, 6-1 as Florida State took the 2-1 lead. UAB evened the score when Ornisha Maier-Knapp overcame Seminole freshman Ania Rynarzewska (6-3, 6-3) at singles No. 1.
The pressure came down to courts 2, 3, and 6 as each contest went into extra sets. At the No. 6 position, freshman Lisa Nystrom Skold logged a 3-6, 6-1, 6-1 victory against Seden Soyalp and sophomore Tapiwa Marobela secured the Florida State win after outlasting Julia von Samson 6-4, 2-6, 7-6(4). Despite being down early in the third set, senior Alina Mihailescu rallied for a 7-6, 4-6, 7-6(4) victory versus Annemieke Elsholz as the Tribe pulled out its seventh victory of the season.
"I have said it over and over but our team plays with a lot of heart," commented Hyde. "No one wants to lose and they are all tough competitors...they almost want to win too much. It was good to see how Nicola and Whitney jumped right out of the locker room and got quick wins. This changed the momentum of the match.
"I am very proud of the way Lisa played...she is really settling into her game. I am also very pleased with the level of intensity our players exhibited when the matches got down to the wire. They battled and fought hard for the win."

Florida State Stumbles To FIU, 5-2
TALLAHASSEE, FL - In its final non-conference tune-up, the No. 57 Florida State women's tennis team suffered a setback Sunday afternoon, falling to No. 41 Florida International 5-2 at the Scott Speicher Tennis Center. With the win, FIU improved to 5-2 on the season while the Seminoles dropped to 7-3 overall.
FIU won the doubles point after securing wins in the No. 1 and No. 2 positions. The Golden Panthers' Paula Zabala and Nikkita Fountain defeated Ania Rynarzewska and Nicola Slater at center court, 8-4, but the Seminoles' Tapiwa Marobela and Suzanna Mansour answered back with an 8-4 victory over Bruna Discordia and Courtney Jonson in the third slot. After tying it up 6-all at No. 2, FIU's Shilla D'Armas and Egle Petrauskaite edged junior Whitney Eber and senior Alina Mihailescu (8-6) as the Golden Panthers took the first point.
The Seminoles put their first team points on the board as Slater quickly beat Petrauskaite 6-4, 6-0, in the third position. However, that would be the only win of the day for the home team as the Golden Panthers recorded four straight victories at Nos. 2, 4, 5 and 6 to clinch the team victory.
Although FIU earned the team victory, Rynarzewska refused to give up at the No. 1 slot, giving the Golden Panthers' Zabala a showdown until the end. Zabala took the first set 7-6 and raced ahead 5-1 in the second set. However, in probably the gutsiest performance of the season, Rynarzewska battled back and won six straight games, defeating Zabala in the second set 7-5. The pair went into the tiebreaker and despite battling for over three hours, the competitors displayed extreme discipline by participating in long volleys. Rynarzewska eventually pulled out with the impressive 10-4 win.

Women's Netters Upset BC In First Ever Meeting Between Schools.
CAMBRIDGE, MA - In the first ever women's tennis match between Florida State and
Boston College, the No. 68-ranked Seminoles upset the Eagles, 4-3, Friday afternoon at the Murr Center. FSU improved to 8-4 on the season and 1-1 in Atlantic Coast Conference action, while BC dropped
to 5-4 overall and 0-2 in league play.
"Our players put forth a lot of effort today," second-year head coach Jennifer Hyde said. "The girls really competed hard throughout the entire match. I am proud of the way our players pulled together as a team and took the high road even though there were a couple of distractions and instances that occurred during the match. We were very classy and competed hard for the love of the game. I hope we can take the momentum from the win with us to Maryland because that will be another highly-competitive affair. It should be another big battle for us."
In singles, the teams split the six matches. Florida State claimed victories at Nos. 4, 5, and 6.
Slater topped Sullivan 6-4, 4-6, 6-3 at No. 4 while the Seminoles' Suzanna Mansour beat Sarah Svoboda, 6-1, 6-1, at No. 5. Whitney Eber wasted no time defeating the Eagles' Gia Nafarrete, 6-2, 6-1, in the sixth slot.
Florida State senior Alina Mihailescu neared an upset over Boston College's Lana Krasnopolsky (ranked No. 73 in the country). However, Knrasnopolsky eventually edged her 6-0, 5-7, 6-4.
The two schools agreed to play doubles last and Florida State picked up wins at Nos. 2 and 3 for the doubles point and team win. The Eber/Slater pair topped Szilvia Szegedi and Alina Sullivan, 8-5, at No. 2 and Tapiwa Marobela and Mihailescu beat Sarah Svoboda and Nafarette, 8-3.
"We are trying different things in doubles and moving people around," Hyde commented. "We had new doubles pairings at No. 2 and we are slowly but surely finding things that will work. For right now it's working and it's only a matter of time before it all comes together."

No. 3 North Carolina Defeats Florida State, 6-1.
TALLAHASSEE, FL - The No. 61 Florida State women's tennis dropped a 6-1 decision to No. 3 North Carolina Wednesday afternoon at the Scott Speicher Tennis. Florida State freshman Suzanna Mansour picked up the lone point for the Seminoles as she recorded a 6-4, 7-5 victory at No. 5 singles.
FSU fell to 8-6 on the season and 1-3 in Atlantic Coast Conference action. The Tar Heels improved to 17-2 and 2-0 in league play.
"We came out really slow in doubles," Florida State head coach Jennifer Hyde, in her second season, said. "We picked it up at the end of doubles and won a couple of games. As for singles play, I thought Suzi competed really hard and came out strong. Nicola [Slater] went into three sets against a ranked player and nearly had the upset before losing the tiebreaker. Once again, our players fought hard...it's only a matter of time before everything will come together for us."
North Carolina jumped off to a 1-0 lead over Florida State winning all three doubles matches. The No. 7-ranked duo of Sara Anundsen and Jenna Long gained its 24th victory of the season with an 8-4 win over Mansour and freshman Ania Rynarzewska at center court.
In singles play, the Seminoles dropped matches at Nos. 1, 2, 3, 4 and 6. Mansour defeated Laura Reichart 6-4, 7-5 in the fifth position for the only FSU victory. No. 25 Jenna Long improved her singles record to 23-7 with a 6-4, 6-1 win over Rynarzewska at No.1. At the two seed, No. 64 Caitlin Collins cruised past Alina Mihailescu, 6-4, 6-3.
"I think Alina is playing the best tennis of her career," Hyde commented. "She is competing at No. 2 singles for us now because she is that type of player who rises to another level when she faces tougher competition. I think Alina has the ability to win some crucial matches this season."
No. 97 Sara Anundsen downed Slater in the third set, 6-1, 3-6, 7-6 (3) at No. 4 and the Tar Heels' Austin Smith and Meg Fanjoy gained wins sophomore Tapiwa Marobela and freshman Lisa Nystom-Skold at the No. 4 and 6 spots, respectively. Marobela fell 6-4, 6-3 and Nystrom-Skold dropped a 6-2, 6-1 decision.

Women's Tennis Drops 4-3 Heartbreaker To No. 24 Clemson.
TALLAHASSEE, FL - Florida State head coach Jennifer Hyde stressed to her team all season long about the importance of doubles play and that very lesson likely cost the Seminoles' an upset bid over No. 24 Clemson Friday afternoon. FSU and Clemson split at courts 2 and 3 in doubles before the No. 1 pair of Whitney Eber and Nicola Slater dropped a 9-8(1) heartbreaker at the top position as the Tigers eventually won the overall match 4-3.
Florida State fell to 8-9 on the season and 1-6 in ACC play; Clemson improved to 12-4 and 5-1 in league action. The Tigers logged their eighth straight win today.
"Once again, this match proved how important doubles are," said Hyde, who is leading a fledgling Seminole squad in the hardest women's tennis conference in the country. "It's frustrating at times for our players because they are so close to a break through. I have said it time and time again but I love the heart and fight of our team. Nicola Slater and Suzanna Mansour are playing great tennis and Lisa Nystrom Skold had a solid day. As a team, we have to find a way to win."
Slater continued to play strong in singles, upsetting No. 113 Maria Brito 6-3, 6-3 at the third position. Mansour picked up a 6-3, 6-0 win against Kathi Gerber at No. 5 and Nystrom Skold logged a 6-2, 6-4 win over Marie Scriba in the sixth position.
In doubles action, the Mansour and Ania Rynarzewska pair garnered an 8-5 win against the Brito/Scriba team at No. 2.

Marobela, Mihailescu Log Upsets; FSU Falls To No. 14 Tech, 5-2.
TALLAHASSEE, FL - It took four years, but Florida State senior Alina Mihailescu finally earned her much-deserved shining moment.
The 5-foot-5 native of Constanta, Romania, upset the first ranked player of her career, No. 105 Tarryn Rudman, at the third slot and FSU sophomore Tapiwa Marobela also logged an upset over No. 76 Kelly Anderson as the Seminoles fell 5-2 to No. 14 Georgia Tech Sunday afternoon at Scott Speicher Tennis Center.
Marobela, a native of Gaborone, Botswana, competed at singles No. 5 and raced away with a 6-3, 6-3 decision over Anderson. Mihailescu won 6-3, 4-6, 1-0(8).
Florida State dropped to 8-10 overall and 1-7 in Atlantic Coast Conference play, while Tech improved to 16-3 on the season and a perfect 7-0 in league action.
"It was the first time I was really able to focus and not choke," an always humble Mihailescu said. "I wanted this win so bad because I knew Rudman was ranked and a very tough competitor. For the last four matches I lost to ranked players in close matches. It's frustrating to be right there and not be able to win, but luckily things went in my favor today and hopefully I hit a turning point in my career."
Actually, unbeknownst to Mihailescu, today marked the seventh straight match she has played a nationally ranked player in singles.
"The higher in the lineup that she is playing, the harder she competes," FSU head coach Jennifer Hyde said. "She showed a ton of heart and a ton of fight today. She got down 6-8 in the time breaker and displayed a lot of guts to come back and win. We are very happy for her. Both she and Taps committed to believing that they could win. The victory was a big hurdle for those two players for sure."
The Yellow Jackets got on the board first with doubles victories at Nos. 1 and 3. The Seminoles' Suzanna Mansour and Ania Rynarzewska claimed their third straight doubles win with an 8-3 victory over Anderson and Whitney McCray, 8-3, at the second slot.
In singles action, the top-ranked player in the country, Kristi Miller, defeated Ania Rynarzewska (6-1, 6-2) at No. 1 and No. 51 Lyndsay Shosho came from behind to win 6-0, 4-6, 1-0(8) against Nicola Slater at the second position. No. 61 Alison Silverio upended Suzanna Mansour 6-1, 6-1 at No. 4 and Christy Striplin beat Whitney Eber 6-2, 6-3 at No. 6 singles.
"The team meetings after the matches have been the same every time," Hyde said. "Everyone knows we are so close. It's just a matter of everyone playing well. Right now we have a couple of people playing well one day and the next day they don't. I think everyone believes we are going to pull an upset once everything connects. It's just a matter of when. We still have three regular season matches to go and I truly believe our team can get a big win."

Freshman Suzi Mansour Leads FSU To Upset Bid Over Virginia Tech.
BLACKSBURG, VA - Florida State head coach Jennifer Hyde called freshman Suzanna Mansour's performance on Sunday against Virginia Tech gutsy, intense, courageous and exciting.
It makes sense considering the native of Greenacres, Fla., recorded a triumphant victory at No. 5 singles that ultimately allowed FSU to upset No. 62 Virginia Tech, 4-3, at the Burrows-Burleson Tennis Center.
The Seminoles snapped a seven-match skid and improved to 9-11 on the season and 2-8 in ACC action. The Hokies dropped to 11-11 overall and 0-9 in the conference.
"Suzanna was absolutely incredible today," said Hyde, who will lead her team to a regular season finale at home against Duke on Friday. "She had the match on her shoulders because she was the last person left on the court with the score tied 3-3. She played with heart, grind and was really aggressive. Suzi did an awesome job and we are just so proud of her."
While Mansour's singles performance caused great jubilation, it didn't overshadow the fact that the Seminoles' No. 1 doubles team of freshman Ania Rynarzewska and Mansour also recorded an upset in doubles. The pair defeated No. 47 J.J. Larson and Anat Elazari, 8-5. The Seminoles added another win at No. 2 doubles as juniors Nicola Slater and Whitney Eber earned a hard-fought 8-6 win over Inga Beerman and Jessica Long.
Thanks to the two wins, FSU captured the doubles point and took an early 1-0 lead heading into singles action.
The Tribe extended its lead to 3-0 with wins at Nos. 3 and 6. Slater dominated Larson 6-3, 6-0 and freshman Lisa Nystrom Skold registered a 6-3, 6-2 victory over Tech's Abbey Walker. As the Seminoles took a healthy lead, the Hokies answered back with victories at Nos. 1, 4 and 2 singles. First, No. 58-ranked Inga Beerman toppled Rynarzewska 6-0, 6-2 at center court. Tech's Ashley James defeated sophomore Tapiwa Marobela 6-4, 6-3 at No. 4 and Elazari upended senior Alina Mihailescu 6-0, 6-3 at No. 2.
With the score tied at 3-all, Mansour and Jessica Long battled it out in a three-set marathon but Mansour eventually prevailed 4-6, 7-5, 6-2.
"I'm just really proud of our entire team," commented Hyde. "They played with a ton of heart and passion. This wasn't our best overall match, but it goes to show you that we capable of beating some strong teams if we put forth more effort. This win will give us momentum going into the Duke match."

Women's Tennis Wraps Up Regular Season With 4-1 Loss To No. 7 Duke.
TALLAHASSEE, FL - In its last regular season match, the No. 65 Florida State women's tennis team fell at the hands to No. 7 Duke 4-1 Friday afternoon on Senior Day at the Scott Speicher Tennis Center. The Seminoles will enter the ACC Championship next week with a No. 10 seed and a 9-12 regular season record and a 2-9 ACC mark.
The Blue Devils improved to 16-5 on the season and 9-1 in the league. "I have said it week after week but our team plays with more emotion and heart than I have ever seen," Florida State head coach Jennifer Hyde said. "After all the major injuries we've had this season, our players could have gave up a long time ago ... but they didn't.
Day in and day out they come to practice and matches with the attitude that they are playing for the national championship. I am so thankful for the heart, discipline, and optimistic attitude our players display on a daily basis."
In doubles action, Florida State had the opportunity to win at two courts but eventually dropped matches at all three spots. At No. 1, Daniela Barcek and Jenny Zika defeated the Seminoles' Nicola Slater and Whitney Eber, 8-5. The Melissa Mang and Jackie Carlton team from Duke overpowered freshmen Suzanna Mansour and Ania Rynarzewska, 8-4, at No. 2. For the sweep, Tara Iyer and Jessie Robinson took care of FSU's Alina Mihailescu and Tapiwa Marobela, 9-7.
"We have been in every match this season with the exception of one," Hyde said. "In doubles today, we had the opportunity to win at a few positions. We were up 7-4 at No. 3 and at No. 1 we were down 6-1 and fought back to make it 6-all. As I have communicated to the players all season, we are so close and it's time to pull out some of these matches. I think overall we are playing our best tennis right now and peaking at the right time."
In singles action, freshman Lisa Nystrom Skold picked up a huge win at No. 5 singles after defeating Jessie Robinson 7-5, 6-3. The win was the lone point for the Seminoles on the day. The Blue Devils picked up wins at Nos. 1, 2 and 6 before play was suspended at Nos. 3 and 4.
"I am really proud of Lisa's effort today," said Hyde. "She had a game plan and stuck to it so her hard work paid off. Lisa's energy is contagious and she is having a lot of fun out there on the court. She has worked really hard for us this season and I'm thrilled Lisa got a good win under her belt."

FSU Women Put Up A Strong Fight, But Fall 4-1 To Wake Forest.
CARY, NC - The No. 10-seeded Florida State women's tennis team saw its ACC Title hopes come to an end Thursday as the Seminoles fell 4-1 to seventh-seeded Wake Forest in the opening round of the 2006 ACC Women's Tennis Championship at the Cary Tennis Center. The Seminoles dropped to 9-13 overall while the Demon Deacons improved to 13-8.
FSU came out strong and captured the doubles point with victories at Nos. 2 and 3. First the freshmen pair of Ania Rynarzewska and Suzanna Mansour overpowered Ashlee Davis and Ana Jerman, 8-3, and the Tapiwa Marobela-Alina Mihailescu duo followed suit with a 9-7 win at No. 3.
"This was our best doubles performances of the year at Nos. 2 and 3," FSU head coach Jennifer Hyde said. "It was great for Alina [Mihailescu] to finish up her career really strong. This has been the best I have seen her play in doubles since I started coaching here."
Wake Forest stormed back in singles and recorded victories at Nos. 1, 3, 4 and 5. First, the Deacons' Jerman upended junior Nicola Slater 6-0, 6-3 in the third slot and Wake's Christian Tara upended Marobela by scores of 6-1, 6-1 at No. 4. Wake Forest grabbed its final two wins at courts one and five as Alex Hirsch defeated Rynarzewska 6-3, 6-4, and Sierra Poske registered a 6-4, 6-2 victory over Mansour in the fifth position for the team win.
"It's been a long season with the injuries and other things we couldn't control," Hyde said. "But I cannot say enough about the character and heart of this team. Everyone competed hard all season long and I can honestly say we had a blast together this season and that shows a lot about their character. When we got knocked down, they'd get right back up. I am extremely proud of our team and I just adore each and every one of them. As a coach, you couldn't ask for more. We have the intangibles intact and next year we'll have the numbers. Again, I cannot express and describe what a joy it has been to work with these girls this season."
