Jazzy Francik Throws No-Hitter on Opening Night in 2-0 Win Over Samford.

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - Jazzy Francik threw her second career no-hitter, a pair of third inning RBI singles powered the No. 7 Florida State softball team (1-0) to a 2-0 win over Samford (1-1) at JoAnne Graf Field in its Thursday night season opener.

Franick was dialed in all night long as she recorded seven strikeouts on 98 pitches, 65 of which were thrown for strikes. Francik's no-hitter is just the second time an FSU player has thrown a no-hitter on opening night as Julie Larsen did it in 1986 against West Florida.

The Seminoles challenged the Bulldogs early with doubles by Marin Heller in the first inning and Hayley Griggs in the second inning. Jaysoni Beachum opened the third inning with a single, and plated the Seminoles' first run off of a single by Ashtyn Danley. On the following at-bat, Anna Hinde notched her first career RBI, driving in Shelby McKenzie with a single to bring the score to 2-0. The hits by FSU freshmen Heller, Griggs, and Hinde were all career firsts.

Jazzy Francik earned the win for the night, pitching her second career no-hitter in her fourth career complete game. With 98 total pitches on the night, Francik struck out seven Samford batters in her season debut.

Shelby McKenzie Hits a Walk-Off Grand Slam; No. 7 Softball Takes Down Iowa in Five Innings.

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - The relentless offense of the No. 7 Florida State softball team (2-0) led to a 12-3 run-rule victory over Iowa (1-1) in five innings on Friday night at JoAnne Graf Field.

Marin Heller got on base on a walk in the first inning, and she advanced to third on a single by Jaysoni Beachum. A sacrifice fly by Shelby McKenzie brought Heller home for the first FSU run.

The Seminoles got into scoring position again in the second inning, after Makenna Sturgis reached first on a fielder's choice and advanced to second on a deep single by Isa Torres. A sharp grounder by Heller forced a misplay on the Iowa defense, and Sturgis plated the Noles' second run. Beachum cleared the bases with a three-run homer to center field, expanding the lead to 5-0.

Six Noles reached base in the third inning, and three scored. Bella Ruggiero, pinch-running for Anna Hinde who reached on a deep left field double, scored after Sturgis put the ball in play for another fielder's choice. A hard-hit ball to center field by Torres produced another error from the Iowa defense, and Hayley Griggs and Angelee Bueno crossed home to bring the score to 8-0.

Makenna Reid entered the circle in relief of Ashtyn Danley to start the fourth inning, and the Hawkeyes plated three runs on two doubles to get on the scoreboard. Reid then pitched a hitless fifth inning to keep the Hawkeye offense in check.

The Noles offense picked up again in the fifth with a Sturgis double. Heller was hit by a pitch and Beachum was walked to load the bases, and McKenzie activated a run rule victory with a walk-off grand slam, the first of her career.

Danley pitched three innings in her first start of the season, with four strikeouts and one hit to earn the win. Reid pitched two innings to close the game, allowing three hits.

No. 7 Softball Sweeps Marshall in Doubleheader.

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - The No. 7 Florida State softball team (4-0) continued its impressive start to the 2026 with a couple of wins over Marshall (2-2) on Saturday at JoAnne Graf Field. FSU won game one 6-2 and game two 10-2 in five innings. This is FSU's first 4-0 start since the 2022 season.

Game One

The Noles wasted no time putting pressure on the Thundering Herd in game one as Isa Torres led off the bottom of the first with a leadoff triple and immediately scored on a wild pitch to give FSU a 1-0 lead after one inning.

Jazzy Francik was phenomenal once again in the circle as the sophomore threw five scoreless innings, allowing just three hits and striking out eight. The only threat Marshall posed was in the fourth inning as a single, a walk and an error loaded the bases with one out, but Francik struck out the following batter and forced a line drive that was juggled and caught by Marin Heller to end the inning.

FSU was scoreless in the second and third inning, but Makenna Sturgis woke the bats up in the fourth inning with her first career home run to straightaway center field to give the Noles a 3-0 lead. Torres followed Sturgis with a single up the middle, and Heller added with another single. Torres raced to third and an errant throw allowed Torres to score to make it 4-0 Noles.

The Noles used some two-out magic in the bottom of the fifth as Bella Rugiero picked up her first career hit with a double. Sturgis picked up her second hit of the game with a single up the middle, and a Marshall error allowed the Noles to tack on two more runs.

Bella Dimitrijevic came in to relieve Francik in the sixth inning. Marshall got two runners in scoring position, but she picked up a strikeout to end the inning. The Thundering Herd hit a two-run homer in the seventh, but Dimitrijevic ended the game with a strikeout to give the Noles the win.

Game Two

Freshman Marlee Gaskell got the start in the circle for the Noles in game two and found her way out of some trouble in the first as Marshall had two runners in scoring position with two outs, but Gaskell picked up her second strikeout of the inning to prevent any damage. Gaskell put up another zero in the second inning.

The Noles got on the board in the bottom of the second as Hayley Griggs tattooed her first career home run of the light pole in center field to give the Noles the early 1-0 lead. The Noles continued the scoring in the inning as Madi Frey and Isa Torres picked up back-to-back walks, and freshman Marin Heller singled to left field to bring home Frey to extend the lead to 2-0.

Marshall got on the board in the third inning with back-to-back singles and a double, but Ashtyn Danley limited the damage with back-to-back strikeouts and a groundout to end the inning.

Anna Hinde and Makenna Sturgis got the FSU offense going with a couple of singles in the third inning. The Noles were able to take advantage as an error brought a run home, and Torres singled to left field to bring two more runs across to make it 6-1.

The Thundering Herd were threatening again in the fifth inning. Makenna Reid entered with runners on first and second with one out, but Reid recorded a pop up and a strikeout on just six pitches to end the inning.

The Noles got back to work in the bottom of the fifth as Griggs drew a leadoff walk, and Frey roped a double down the left field line. Torres and Heller hit back-to-back doubles to make the score 9-2, and for the second night in a row, Shelby McKenzie sent the fans home early with a infield single to complete the run-rule.

Offense Leads No. 6 Softball Past No. 7 UCLA.

CLEARWATER, Fla. - The No. 6 Florida State softball team (8-1) put up 11 runs in three innings and held on for a 11-7 win over No. 7 UCLA (6-3) on Saturday night at the Shriners Children's Clearwater Invitational.

UCLA got on the board in the top of the first inning with a solo home run, but the Noles responded in a huge way. The first four FSU batters all recorded a hit to start the game, and in a flash, FSU took the lead 3-1. Isa Torres and Marin Heller each singled, and Jaysoni Beachum drove in Torres to tie the game at one. Ashtyn Danley doubled up the middle to score both Beachum and Heller.

Bella Dimitrijevic retired the side in order in the second, and the Noles went right back to work on offense. Angelee Bueno hit a one-out triple, and Torres took the first pitch she saw deep over the right field wall to put the Noles up 5-0. Heller took the first pitch down the right field line for a double, and Beachum hit her second home run of the season to left field to put the Noles up 7-1.

After UCLA got one back in the third, the Bruins looked to be cruising through the inning, but Bueno was hit by a pitch with two outs to get a runner aboard. Torres picked up her third hit of the evening on an infield single, and Heller doubled to shallow left field to score Bueno. Beachum took the first pitch she saw high and deep over the left field wall to put the Noles up 11-2.

UCLA scored four runs in the fourth inning to put some pressure on FSU, but Jazzy Francik came in and pitched four innings and hung onto the lead for her fifth win of the season.

No. 7 Softball Run Rules Louisiana.

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - The No. 7 Florida State softball team shut out Louisiana in five innings by a final score of 8-0 on Tuesday night at the Seminole Softball Complex.

The Seminoles (9-2) improved to 13-9 all-time over the Ragin' Cajuns (6-4), including a 5-2 edge in Tallahassee. Florida State has run-ruled Louisiana in each of their past three meetings.

Freshman right-hander Bella Dimitrijevic (1-0) made her fourth career start, earning her first career win in the Garnet and Gold. In a new career-high of 3.2 innings, she gave up three hits while striking out two and allowed no runs. Louisiana's Lexie Delbrey (1-1) took her first loss.

The Seminole offense put up five hits and drew six walks in the win. Junior shortstop Isa Torres continued her dominance at the plate, reaching base in all three of the appearances. She went 2-for-2 with a single and a double and drew a walk.

The bats came alive in the bottom of the second inning. With the bases loaded, a hard-struck ball by freshman second baseman Marin Heller forced an error out of the Louisiana infield, allowing junior first baseman Angelee Bueno to score from third. Junior third baseman Jaysoni Beachum drew a walk in the next at-bat, advancing redshirt-freshman Bella Ruggiero home.

Junior utility Ashtyn Danley sent the ball up the middle, reaching on the fielder's choice and allowing Torres to take home, making it 3-0. Freshman catcher Anna Hinde then powered a single into left field, scoring Heller from third and Danley from second.

The Seminoles loaded the basepath once more in the bottom of the fifth inning. A wild pitch gave Danley space to steal home, and sophomore utility Shelby McKenzie plated another run on a sacrifice fly by Bueno. Ruggiero's second hit of the season couldn't have come at a better time as she ripped a single through the middle infield to score freshman outfielder Makenna Sturgis.

Danley entered the circle in relief in the fourth inning, throwing 1.1 innings. She allowed one hit while striking out one.

SCORING SUMMARY:

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - The No. 7 Florida State softball team (10-3) defeated Dartmouth (0-2), 10-2, in six innings and lost to No. 9 Alabama (11-0), 8-0, in its Friday doubleheader in the Dugout Club Classic at JoAnne Graf Field.

The Noles took no time getting on the scoreboard in the first inning against the Big Green. Marin Heller doubled to left field, and she scored on another left field double off the bat of Ashtyn Danley shortly after. Danley scored the Noles' second run on a single by Anna Hinde.

The trend of FSU doubles continued in the second inning, with Shelby McKenzie doubling to open the inning and scoring on a double by Isa Torres. In the third inning, Danley nailed a triple to right field and plated her second run of the night on a sacrifice fly by Hinde to bring the score to 4-0.

Danley pitched three hitless innings to start the game, before the Big Green recorded two hits and plated two runs in the fourth inning. Danley left the game after 3.2 innings, with two strikeouts and 54 pitches in her seventh appearance of the season. Makenna Reid relieved Danley in the circle to close the fourth with a strikeout.

Both runners scored on a triple down the right field line by Torres. On the following play, Torres scored on a single by Heller to bring the score to 7-2.

To begin the fifth inning, Hinde singled and then stole second, marking her first career stolen base. Hinde then scored on a throwing error after Kennedy Harp put the ball in play and reached on a fielder's choice. Hayley Griggs entered the game as a pinch runner for Harp, and she scored on a sacrifice fly by Sturgis for a 9-2 Noles lead.

Torres ended the game on a run rule at the beginning of the sixth inning, with a center field bomb for an inside the park home run. In total, Torres had three hits on four plate appearances.

Jazzy Francik got the start and threw three scoreless innings and got out of trouble in both the second and third innings. The Dolphins got two runners in scoring position in the second and loaded the bases in the third inning, but Francik recorded inning-ending strikeouts both times.

The Dolphins got one run back in the top of the fifth, but Ashtyn Danley limited the damage with a strikeout to strand runners at second and third.

The Noles responded with more offense in the bottom of the inning as Anna Hinde walked and Marin Heller singled to set the stage for Ruggiero who hit her first career triple to clear the bases and put the Noles up 6-1. Makenna Sturgis hit a blooper to right field to score Ruggiero and give the Noles another run.

Makenna Reid entered the circle in for the final two innings and allowed just two hits while striking out four to shut the door.
