Track and Field News Names Cunningham National Athlete of the Year. June 18, 2022 by Tim Hofmann TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - Trey Cunningham added
another award to his bio Friday evening, as he was named the Men's Outdoor National Athlete of the Year by Track and Field News. Cunningham is the third Seminole to win the award joining Ngoni Makusha
(2011) and Walter Dix (2007). Cunningham won all 10 of his races this outdoor season, running 13.22 or faster in nine of those races, the first athlete in NCAA history to do so. Cunningham clocked
the second-fastest time in NCAA history (13.00) at the NCAA Outdoor Championships on his way to a national title. Cunningham was also named the USTFCCCA South Region Athlete of the Year on
Thursday. June 23, 2022 by Tim Hofmann TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - Three Seminoles took home ACC awards Thursday afternoon. Head
Coach Bob Braman was named the ACC Men's Coach of the Year. Trey Cunningham was named ACC Men's Track Performer of the Year, and Sean Watkins Jr. was named ACC Co-Freshmen of the Year. The Noles led
all teams with three winners. Coach Braman picked up his 14th ACC coaching accolade across the cross country, indoor track and field and outdoor track and field seasons. Braman just completed his
19th season with the Seminoles and picked up his 32nd ACC title, the most among active coaches. Braman led the men to one of the most dominant performances in ACC Championship history this past
season. The Noles scored 149 points and won by 56 points, the most since league expansion. The Noles also finished fourth at the NCAA Outdoor Championships, its highest finish since 2012.
Cunningham added another award to his resume. The Bowerman semifinalist became the first Nole to be named ACC Men's Track Performer of the Year since Andre Ewers in 2019. Cunningham won the 110m
hurdles national title and put together one of the greatest hurdle seasons in NCAA history. Cunningham ran 13.22 or faster nine times in his 10 races, the first athlete to accomplish that feat.
Watkins Jr. made a splash in his first season with the Seminoles. The Opa Locka, Fla., native, finished third in the 400m dash at the ACC Outdoor Championships and helped the 4x400m relay team to a
second-place finish at the ACC Outdoor Championships and helped them qualify for the NCAA Outdoor Championships. Watkins Jr. became the ninth Seminole to win the award. December 15, 2022 by Tim Hofmann AURORA, Colo. - Trey Cunningham had already solidified himself as one of the top hurdlers in collegiate history, but his
name will forever be sketched into collegiate track and field history as he was named The Bowerman winner Thursday night. Cunningham is the second Seminole to win The Bowerman joining Ngoni Makusha
who won the award in 2011. Florida State is now one of three schools to have multiple male Bowerman winners. "I thought about what I was going to say tonight and it all boiling down to two words,
'What if?'" Cunningham said. "What if I didn't go to Florida State? I had no idea what I was getting myself into when I decided to come to Tallahassee. I truly found myself there and was able to push
my bounds athletically, academically and socially. This University has provided every opportunity I needed to succeed and has made me feel at home. "I'm just glad it's been a fun ride so far and I
can't wait to see where it takes me next. Thank you all for coming tonight, and thank you all for voting me as your Bowerman Award winner." Cunningham put together one of the greatest hurdle
seasons in collegiate history. Cunningham won national titles in both the 60m hurdles indoors and 110m hurdles outdoors. Cunningham clocked the second-fastest time in collegiate history in the 60m
hurdles (7.38) in the national championship race. Cunningham also tied for the second-fastest time in collegiate history in the 110m hurdles national championship race with a blistering time of
13.00. Cunningham's success was recognized in the awards season. Cunningham was named the ACC Track Performer of the Year for both the indoor and outdoor seasons. He was also named the USTFCCCA
South Region Track Athlete of the Year for both the indoor and outdoor seasons. Track and Field News named Cunningham their National Athlete of the Year. Cunningham holds the FSU and ACC records in
both the 60m hurdles and 110m hurdles. Following his collegiate season, Cunningham made his name known in the professional ranks, earning silver at both the USATF Championships and the World
Championships. Cunningham was also phenomenal off the track as he was named the National Indoor Scholar-Athlete of the Year to go along with his ACC Indoor and Outdoor Scholar-Athlete of the Year
awards. Cunningham was also a USTFCCCA All-Academic honoree. Cunningham is pursuing a Master's degree in sport management at Florida State. Cunningham will continue to train in Tallahassee under
Associate Head Coach Matt Kane.

Wildschutt Takes Fourth; Two Noles Final on Day One of NCAA Championships.

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Adriaan Wildschutt led the way on a successful day one of the NCAA Indoor Championships at the Birmingham CrossPlex in Birmingham, Ala.
Wildschutt continued his stellar career as he earned a podium finish in the 5000m run for the second straight year. Wildschutt finished fourth in the race with a time of 13:21.23. Wildschutt is the only Nole in school history to record back-to-back top five finishes in the indoor 5000m run.
"A real gutsy race from Adriaan," Head Coach Bob Braman said. "He gave everything he had and made every move to give himself a chance to win."
Trey Cunningham continued his quest for a national title after a 7.50 time in the 60m hurdle preliminary race. Cunningham's time was a full 0.13 seconds faster than the next fastest qualifying time.
In his first race since Jan. 15, Don'dre Swint punched his ticket to the finals in the 60m dash, clocking in at 6.60. Swint's had the eighth-fastest qualifying time but his season best time of 6.53 ranks second among the finalists.
Ahmed Muhumed battled back in the 5000m run after being tripped up near the halfway mark of the race. Muhumed finished 15th with a time of 13:58.91.
Senior Isaac Grimes was slated to
compete for a national title in the long jump, but he did not compete due to an injury suffered in warmups.

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - One of the greatest hurdlers in world history finally got his title.
Senior Trey Cunningham got the monkey off his back Saturday night winning the 60m hurdles national title in front of several teammates, coaches, family members and friends at the Birmingham CrossPlex in Birmingham, Ala.
Cunningham left no doubt in the championship race clocking in a staggering 7.38, bettering his previous personal best time of 7.40. Cunningham's time is the 11th-fastest time in the history of the sport and was just 0.03 seconds off the collegiate record. Cunningham became the first Nole to win an indoor national title since Dentarious Locke in 2014. Cunningham is also just the second Nole to win a title in the 60m hurdles, joining Drew Bunson who won the title in 2008.
"I'm so happy for Trey to finally win the NCAA title. Until today, he was probably the greatest collegiate track athlete ever to not win a national title," Head Coach Bob Braman said. "He's No. 2 all-time indoors, and he has a chance to be the best ever in outdoors."
Don'dre Swint was the only other male athlete to compete for the Noles on the final day of competition. After the starting block sensors malfunctioned, officials elected to rerun the race with all but two athletes already completing the full 60m race. In the second go around, Swint finished seventh with a time of 6.68. The men ended the meet with 17 points and tied for the 13th.
"I'm really pleased with our men. They've fought through adversity all year, and the crew here in Birmingham ran to their utmost abilities," Braman said.
Lauren Ryan capped off a phenomenal indoor season with another solid race in the 3000m run. Ryan finished fourth with a time of 9:01.37 in her first-ever NCAA Indoor Championships to earn first team All-America honors.
"I'm really pleased for Lauren. With this being her first NCAA Indoor Championship, she handled herself well and ran a tactical race. I'm really excited for her to chase a national title in the outdoor season," Braman said.

EUGENE, Ore. - Sara Zabarino led the way for the Noles earning First-Team All-America honors in the javelin on the second day of the NCAA Outdoor Championships at Hayward Field in Eugene, Ore.
"I thought we competed really well today. We had a school record in the 4x100m relay and two No. 2 FSU all-time performances with Blessing and Sara. We have the opportunity to put it together and maybe get to top 10 or top 15 team performance on Saturday," Head Coach Bob Braman said.
Zabarino shined under the bright lights of Hayward Field Thursday night. Zabarino threw 55.61m on her third throw of the day to finish fifth. Zabarino now holds the top two marks in school history as she broke the school record at the ACC Outdoor Championships with a mark of 55.66m. This is the first time Zabarino has earned First-Team All-America honors after she earned honorable mention last season in the event. EUGENE, Ore. - Trey Cunningham left his stamp on Florida State history Friday night securing his first 110m hurdle national title with the second-fastest time in NCAA history. The Noles posted their best finish since 2012 with 33 points to finish in on the podium in fourth place.
"We got a lot better throughout the year, and we finally got back to the podium for the first time in a long time. We left some points out there, but I'm very proud of our group," Head Coach Bob Braman.
Cunningham put his mark on the record books again with a 13.00 on his way to a national title. Cunningham battled LSU's Eric Edwards Jr. through eight hurdles but he pulled away to become FSU's first national champion in the 110m hurdles.
