Pourroy, Petrovic Earn All-ACC Honors for Men's Tennis. June 9, 2022 by Amanda Cover, Sports Information Intern TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - The Florida
State men's tennis program added two awards for the season as Loris Pourroy and Andreja Petrovic earned 2022 All-ACC honors. Pourroy was named All-ACC First Team and Petrovic was placed on the All-ACC
Third Team. This is the second All-ACC honor for Pourroy after he earned second-team honors in 2021. Pourroy is the 14th Seminole to win All-ACC honors in multiple seasons. Earlier this spring,
Pourroy was named ACC Player of the Week in back-to-back weeks. The sophomore from Gap, France, recently competed in the NCAA Singles Championship and finished as the 51st-ranked player in the
country. Pourroy also landed at 81st in the doubles rankings with Sebastian Arcila. Pourroy finished the season tied for the team lead in singles wins with 15, including five of those in conference
play. He defeated six ranked singles opponents this season highlighted by a win over 57th-ranked Axel Nefve from No. 35 Notre Dame to clinch the team victory over the Fighting Irish in the second
round of the ACC Tournament. In doubles, Pourroy played primarily with Petrovic, and the pair finished 7-3 overall with an undefeated 4-0 record in the ACC. Petrovic, a sophomore from Oslo,
Norway, claimed his first All-ACC honor this season while playing primarily on court two. He finished only one victory behind Pourroy for the team lead in singles wins with 14 and earned 12 doubles
wins. He beat 101st-ranked Robin Catry from No. 20 North Carolina State in straight sets for one of his five conference singles victories. Pourroy and Petrovic are the first FSU duo to earn
All-ACC honors since Alex Knaff and Lucas Poullain notched conference awards in 2019.

Men's Tennis Opens 2022 With Win Over UNF.
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - The 2022 spring season couldn't have started much better for the Seminole men's tennis team. The squad opened the campaign with a convincing 6-1 win over the University of North Florida. The victory moved FSU to 13-1 all-time versus the Osprey and 1-0 on the season.
"It was a good start to the season," said FSU Head Coach Dwayne Hultquist. "I think North Florida is going to be in contention to win the Atlantic Sun. They have a lot of good players.
"I was really pleased with our freshmen today. All three that played got their first wins. That's not always easy."
Newcomer Yucef Racine was first off in singles with a convincing 6-3, 6-2 victory, recording the first dual match win of his collegiate career. Loris Pourroy picked up right where he left off in 2021. Playing in the No. 1 spot, Pourroy cruised to a 6-3, 6-3 win to put FSU up 3-1. Moments after Pourroy's win, Sebastian Arcila clinched the first victory of the season for FSU with a 6-4, 6-2 win. The Seminoles' fifth point came courtesy of another newcomer as Joshua Dous Karpenschief won his first-ever dual match 6-4, 7-6 (7-3). The final win for FSU came via an Andreja Petrovic comeback. The Oslo, Norway native dropped a closely contested first set 6-7 before winning the second 6-1 and then the third set tiebreaker 10-5.
"Youcef won quickly, which is always a good thing. Joshua won in singles and in doubles. He and Maks won fast. I thought they were really sharp today. I was really pleased for Andy, coming back and winning. He was sick, had to travel from Australia and had hardly practiced so I was pleased with how he finished the match off. I thought that was great.
"Seb showed a lot of leadership in closing his match out as well as Loris. Loris faced a good opponent. He controlled the points and won it 6-3, 6-3."
FSU opened the scoring by taking the doubles point 2-0. Maks Silagy and Karpenschief were first off with a 6-1 win followed by Arcila and Pourroy who won 6-4 to secure the early lead.
"We are going to be one of the younger teams in the country this year," said Hultquist. "We are going to play as many as five freshmen at different times. This was a really good start and we look forward to playing again Sunday."

Men's Tennis Defeats GSU 7-0.
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - The Florida State men's tennis team completed a perfect opening weekend with a decisive 7-0 win over Georgia Southern Sunday. The Seminoles dropped just two sets and also won both tiebreakers, improving to 2-0 on the season. Four Seminoles moved to 2-0 on the year in singles play and FSU dropped just one match all weekend in doubles.
"It was a good weekend," said FSU Head Coach Dwayne Hultquist. "We won a couple of really tight tiebreakers, so it could have been 5-2 but instead, it's 7-0. We're off to a good start. We have a long way to go and we have to get a few guys healthy and get ready for three matches next weekend."
For the second consecutive match, the Seminoles were able to secure the doubles point. After Joshua Dous Karpenschif and Maks Silagy took the first match 6-2, GSU evened things up, leaving the point to the match-up on court one, which was tied at 5-5. Andreja Petrovic and Loris Pourroy were able to close out, taking the next two games for a 7-5 win and a Seminole lead.
"We showed good maturity at one doubles to comeback and close that doubles point out," said Hultquist. "Doubles is usually pretty important and I thought it was today. Once we got the doubles, we jumped out early on four of the six singles and were able to control the match from there."
Silagy put FSU up 2-0 cruising to a 6-2, 6-0 win on line six. Moments later, Dous Karpenschif brought the Seminoles one step closer to clinching the match with a 6-1, 6-2 win on court four. John Bernard clinched the match for FSU taking his match 6-2, 6-1 on line four.
"I was glad to see the freshmen dominate on 4, 5 and 6," said Hultquist. "Really good effort for those guys to win and get off the court. Those were the first career wins for John and Maks and I thought they handled it really well. Maks didn't even know he would play in until after the doubles. I was really pleased with how all the freshmen played."
"It felt good to be out there and get a win in my first match as a Seminole," said Bernard. "We are a young team and we are improving and everyone is going to get better throughout the season. Getting these wins early feels great."
The Seminoles picked up their fifth point of the day at line two where Petrovic won 6-2, 6-2, pushing the Florida State lead to 5-0. Loris Pourroy added to the point total fighting back after dropping the first set 2-6 to win the second 6-2 and then the tiebreaker 11-9. The highlight of the match was a marathon tiebreaker on the final court. Youcef Rihane dropped his first set 6-4 and then evened things up taking the second set 6-1 before a marathon tiebreaker which he won 19-17.
"That was quite the tiebreak at three," said Hultquist. "With all those match points, I thought that was a really great battle for Youcef. It was good for him. He struggled early in the match and then came back and won having to push himself. I think that will help him down the road."

Men Move To 3-0 With Win Over USA.
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - For the fourth time in the last five seasons, the FSU men's tennis team is off to a 3-0 start in spring play. The Seminoles did not drop a point for the second time in three matches as they swept South Alabama (2-1) 4-0 at the Indoor Tennis Facility. Florida State was led by Loris Pourroy and Joshua Dous-Karpenschif, who each won their singles matches in straight sets and both were part of a doubles win.
FSU secured the doubles point for the third straight match, winning 2-0. Playing at one doubles, Pourroy and Sebastian Arcila got the Seminoles off to a good start taking their match 6-2. Dous-Karpenschif and Maks Silagy secured the 1-0 lead taking their match on court three 6-3.
Dous-Karpenschif continued the stellar start to his Seminole career putting FSU up 2-0. The freshman improved to 3-0 on the season in singles as he won his match 6-3, 6-2 on court six. Pourroy continued his strong start to 2022 as well playing on court one as he improved to 3-0 coming off second with a 6-1, 7-5 win. The Seminole junior fought back from 1-4 in the second set to take the point.
The four remaining matches all went to third sets. Andreja Petrovic won his first set 6-4 and almost closed it out for FSU himself before falling 5-7 in set two before moving into a third. Richard Thongoana, Sebastian Arcila and Youcef Rihane all dropped their first set and came back to force third sets but it was Rihane who clinched for the Noles taking his match 4-6, 6-2, 6-2.

Men Complete Perfect Day With Win Over Samford.
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - The Florida State men's tennis team completed a perfect day on the courts with a 4-0 win over Samford Friday evening. FSU defeated South Alabama earlier in the day to improve to 4-0 on the year having dropped just one point in four matches.
"It was a good day overall," said FSU Head Coach Dwayne Hultquist. "We got challenged by South Alabama this morning and came right back and picked up another win tonight."
The Seminoles made quick work in doubles versus Samford Friday evening taking the point 2-0. Youcef Rihane and Bryn Nahrung were off first at 6-0. Josh Dous-Karpenschif and Maks Silagy followed shortly behind with a 6-1 win to give FSU the 1-0 lead.
"I thought we were good in doubles all day," said Hultquist. "We won both doubles points and were in position to win all our doubles matches. I was pleased how we came out to start in both matches."
With two matches moving indoors due to weather (FSU vs Samford and USA versus Stetson) and being played simultaneously, FSU started singles with John Bernard, Youcef Rihane and Loris Pourroy getting the first crack and sealing the win and they did just that. Rihane was the first off on line three with a 6-3, 6-2 victory. Pourroy remained unbeaten on the year with a 6-3, 6-2 victory and just moments later Bernard followed with a 6-4, 6-2 win to clinch the match.
"It was really pleased with John today getting in and dominating his match and clinching the victory versus Samford," said Hultquist. "It was a nice effort from Loris winning all his matches today. We had to rely on Loris and Youcef today. They played in every match and did great.
"Earlier today, I was really pleased with how Youcef came back and won a third set and clinched it. I was also pleased with how Seb came back after dropping the first set and was up convincingly in the third. Even though we had a match point to win the match with Andy at two, the other guys stayed focused and closed it out well."
NOTE: Positions 2, 4 and 6 did not start. FSU had clinched the match so it was not necessary for them to compete.

Men Take Down Stetson And Move To 5-0.
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - The Florida State men's tennis team, playing its third match in just over 24 hours, was challenged all afternoon by Stetson Saturday. The Seminoles fell behind 1-0 in doubles before taking that point and then started singles off 1-1 before pulling away from the Hatters (1-2) with three straight wins to move to 5-0 on the year.
"Stetson did a great job," said FSU Head Coach Dwayne Hultquist. "They played hard. Their guys really competed and battled the whole way through. There were three or four opportunities we had to extend leads and we didn't. They hung in the match because of that. As a young team, that is something we can really grow from. When you have opportunities to put a team away or set points, you have to take advantage of those. It was good we got a win while we learned that but it shows we got more work to go to get those to close them out."
For the first time in 2022, the Noles fell behind in doubles dropping the match on court three. On court two, Youcef Rihane and Andy Petrovic took the point 6-3 to even things at 1-1. The deciding match came down to Loris Pourroy and Sebastian Arcila on court one. The pair, who came into the match 2-0 on the season, took the match in a tiebreaker 7-5 to secure the point and move to 3-0.
With the indoor courts being split between four teams, FSU started with lines 4, 5 and 6 to begin singles. John Bernard staked FSU to a 2-0 lead with a 6-3, 6-4 win. After the Hatters cut the lead to 2-1, Richard Thongoana brought FSU within a point of the victory. The senior took his match 7-6, 6-2 for his first singles win of the season. Petrovic clinched the win for the Seminoles as he took the courts after the first group and proceeded to close it out with a 6-2, 6-3 win.
"Waiting for courts to clear before some guys can play is hard," said Hultquist. "We started our pregame seven hours before we wrapped. Our guys had to wait a long time and that's not easy. Loris and Andy got off to good starts. We were rolling pretty good and the Stetson player on line one battled back and took the second set.
"Andy did a really good job of finishing it out. He finished it with a break and didn't have to serve it out at 5-4. There's a lot to learn from and it was a long weekend and I know our guys are pretty tired too."

Men Move Into Winner's Bracket At ITA Kickoff Weekend Regional.
GAINESVILLE, Fla. - The Florida State men's tennis team moved into the winner's bracket at the ITA Kickoff Weekend regional hosted by the University of Florida with a 4-0 win over UNC Wilmington Saturday.
After dropping the first doubles match on line three, the Noles stormed back taking matches on lines one and two to secure the doubles point and a 1-0 lead. Andy Petrovic and Youcef Rihane evened things at 1-1 with a 6-3 win. Loris Pourroy and Sebastian Arcila then clinched the doubles point with a 6-3 win of their own.
Playing indoors, only three courts were available so Pourroy, Petrovic and Arcila looked to close out the match and that's just what they did. Arcila was the first off on three with a 6-3, 6-2 win. Petrovic followed putting FSU up 3-0 winning 6-2, 6-4 on line two. Pourroy wrapped it up for the Seminoles moving to 5-0 on the season with a 7-6 (7-5), 6-4 victory.

Men's Tennis Falls In Winner's Bracket At ITA Kickoff Weekend.
GAINESVILLE, Fla. - The Florida State men's tennis team saw its run in the ITA Kickoff Weekend come to an end Sunday at the regional in Gainesville. The Seminoles (6-1) fell 4-1 to No. 3 Florida.
"Really hard-fought match," said FSU Head Coach Dwayne Hultquist. "Despite the loss, It shows the growth we have made as a team. We will get another shot next week in a match that will be broadcast on TennisONE and played in front of the largest crowd in the country."
The Seminoles took a 1-0 lead following doubles. Andy Petrovic and Youcef Rihane took their match 6-2 and then Maks Silagy and Josh Dous-Karpenschif clinched it on line three with a 7-5 victory upsetting the nation's 55th-ranked doubles pair.
"I was really pleased how we came out and won the doubles," said Hultquist. "We beat a ranked team and I thought we were really sharp. I was pleased with how we started."
After taking the 1-0 lead, the Seminoles took three of the first six sets to put themselves in position to pull off the upset. The Gators turned the momentum in the second sets though and were able to close out before the third sets on lines one and three could be completed.
"We started out strong in singles with a young team in a big road match," said Hultquist. "We had a good start winning at one, two and three in the first sets. Florida fought back and won all the second sets and gained control of the match. We had some chances there but they ended up sweeping those sets."

Men's Tennis Falls At College Match Day Versus No. 3 Florida.
LAKE NONA, Fla. - For the second time in less than a week the Florida State men's tennis team took a lead on the defending national champions and pushed the No. 3 Gators but came up short. After taking the doubles point, FSU was in third sets on two courts but couldn't make those points come into play falling 4-1.
Just like they did in the first meeting six days ago, the Seminoles took the doubles point and the early lead versus the Gators. Loris Pourroy and Sebastian Arcila were off first with a 6-3 win. UF tied it up with a win on line two but before they could even enjoy it, Maks Silagy and Josh Dous Karpenschif closed out their match moments later 6-4 to take the point.
In singles, the Gators took points on lines one and two to make it 2-1. UF then won a second set tiebreaker to go up 3-1. FSU was already in third sets on courts five and six but was unable to convert a triple set point on court three to force another match to a third.
"It felt like the first match," said FSU Head Coach Dwayne Hultquist. "We got the doubles. It was a great effort at one doubles against one of the better teams in the country. I think one of the keys to the match was we had a triple set point to put three matches into the third set. Both Josh and Youcef (Rihane) were leading at one point in their third sets to make it really close down to the wire. I think we actually played his match a little closer but just weren't able to convert on one of those three set points.
"I thought some of our guys competed well when they were down. Andy (Petrovic) had the second set in a tiebreaker. Rich (Thongoana) was down and fought back to put himself in position to win that second set. Our freshmen played much better this time. They didn't finish but put themselves in a position to win."

Pourroy Records Top 50 Win Leading Men To 4-3 Victory Over UCF.
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - Florida State's Loris Pourroy recorded his biggest victory of the season Friday night and two freshmen came through in big spots for FSU. The Seminoles rallied to beat UCF 4-3 after trailing 1-0, 2-1 and 3-2 and moved to 7-2 on the season.
Coming into 2022, UCF was ranked No. 11 in the ITA Preseason Poll. Five of the Knights' first six matches this spring came against #3 Florida, #8 Georgia, #10 Wake Forest, #14 Stanford and #24 NC State so the Seminoles knew they were facing a team much better than its 1-6 record Friday night.
"Tonight was a really good building block for where we could go this season," said FSU Head Coach Dwayne Hultquist. "It came down to two freshmen and they really stepped it up in the third set. Both of them lost the first set and bounced back to win convincingly in the third, which was great. It was a great effort. We had a great crowd tonight and it was great for our tennis community. It really showcased our guy's abilities."
After falling behind early on all three doubles courts, the Seminoles fought back to get to 5-5 and 4-5 on courts one and three but were unable to complete the comeback dropping the doubles point 2-0.
In singles, Pourroy and Andreja Petrovic led the way with strong performances at one and three. Pourroy was first off with an impressive 6-3, 6-2 win over the ITA's No. 50 singles player. With the match tied at 1-1, UCF briefly jumped back in front before Petrovic finished off his match in straight sets 6-0, 6-4 to take line three and even things up at 2-2. UCF once again jumped into the lead with a win on court four while both five and six went into a third set. Youcef Rihane came back after dropping his first set to win 1-6, 6-3, 6-1 to once again tie the match leaving the result to court six. On six, Josh Dous-Karpenschif also dropped his first set but like Rihane he also rallied to take his match 2-6, 6-4, 6-0 giving the Seminoles the win.
"It was good to see us bounce back after doubles," said Hultquist. "It was the first time we lost doubles all season. We are 8-1 in doubles now. That has been an important point for us this year and to have lost it and come back and won the match is really good for our guys.
"I was really proud of Loris and Andy. They got off quick. Even though they won four first sets, I thought them getting off was really crucial. We won four of the six second sets and all the third sets. We got stronger as the match went on and we may gain some confidence off this win versus a team that was ranked No. 11 in the country in the preseason."

Pourroy Takes Down No. 20 Leading Tennis Over No. 18 MSU.
STARKVILLE, Miss. - For the second time in just over a week FSU's Loris Pourroy defeated a nationally ranked singles player helping to lead the Seminoles to yet another win, this time over No. 18 Mississippi State. The Seminoles (8-2) blew past the Bulldogs 5-2 to record the team's first ranked win of the season.
"It was a really great road win with such a young team," said FSU Head Coach Dwayne Hultquist. "We played four freshmen today and I was really proud of the guys. We got off to a great start with the doubles beating the No. 37 team in the country at number one. Loris and Sebastian had a nice start and played great. I thought it was really key our guys on court two fought back to tie it at 5-5.
"The key to the match was the beginning of the second sets. We got four first sets and got up breaks on all of those courts and finished it off. I was also really pleased with the way Sebastian fought to get into a third set. Overall, it was a great effort. Our guys really played together and were committed to getting a tough road win."
The Seminoles improved to 8-1 on the season in doubles in large part to the success at line one. Sebastian Arcila and Pourroy moved to 6-1 on court one upsetting the nation's 37th-ranked doubles team taking their match 6-4. After Mississippi State tied things up, the Bulldogs were unable to continue on court two, where things were knotted at 5-5, to give the Seminoles the point.
Pourroy not only came off first in singles but he did so in convincing fashion over the nation's 20th-ranked singles player. It was the second straight top 50 win for the Seminole junior and the reigning ACC co-Tennis Player of the Week. The Seminoles also got straight set win on lines three, four and five. Andreja Petrovic won 6-3, 6-3 on court three, Josh Dous-Karpenschif took his match 6-3, 6-2 on court four and Youcef Rihane cruised to a 6-3, 6-0 win on court five.

24th-Ranked Men's Tennis Takes Down Troy.
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - Fresh off a new Top 25 ranking and playing without their top line player, the 24th-ranked FSU men's tennis team pulled out a 4-3 win over Troy Friday night. The Seminoles won the doubles point for the 10th time in 11 tries and Andy Petrovic clinched the match for FSU, which improved to 9-2.
"Troy played a great match," said FSU Head Coach Dwayne Hultquist. "When non-ACC schools come in to play us we know we are going to get their best effort. We held out Loris today due to injury and we got the chance to play some younger guys."
Alex Bulte and Youcef Rihane got the Seminoles off to a fast start in doubles on court one with a 6-2 victory. With Loris Pourroy out for the match, Sebastian Arcila didn't miss a beat on line one partnering with Petrovic. With doubles tied 1-1, the pair secured the 1-0 lead for the Seminoles with a 6-3 victory.
Rihane staked FSU to a 2-0 lead as singles got underway. The first-year Seminole won 6-2, 6-1 on line four. Troy trimmed the lead to 2-1 with a win on line five and then evened things up with a win on court one. FSU jumped back out in front thanks to Richard Thongoana and his three set win on court three taking the match 5-7, 6-3, 6-1. Petrovic secured the fourth point and the win for the Seminoles as he won a three set match on court six. After falling 6-7 (0-7) in set one, the junior stormed back taking sets two and three 6-3, 6-3 to put the Noles in front 4-2.
"I was particularly impressed with Youcef today," said Hultquist. "He had a dominant performance. I love how he controlled the match and got off quick. This was Rich's best match. He came back strong after losing a close first set and dominated the second and third. Andy as well. He had a set point in the first and didn't get down not converting that. He came back and won by two breaks in the third. I thought he handled himself really well.
"We got an opportunity to play a full complement of guys, which was great. Our guys need that experience. I am glad we came out with a win and we will look forward to ACC play starting next week."

29th-Ranked Men's Tennis Downs No. 20 NC State.
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - The No. 29 FSU men's tennis team recorded a big ACC victory Friday night. The Seminoles took down No. 20 NC State 4-3 in a back-and-forth match that saw three singles matches go to a third set, of which FSU won two to clinch the win. Florida State is now 10-2 overall, 1-0 in the conference and a perfect 8-0 at home.
"That was a great college match," said FSU Head Coach Dwayne Hultquist. "It was three-and-a-half hours of back-and-forth. They are a really good team and they have a lot of really good players. They are strong all the way through the line. It was a really good win for us and a great start to the ACC season.
"We are a young team. Today we played three freshmen and two sophomores. I really like how we are improving. We are getting better. It's just the start of conference play but we are starting to compile wins."
The doubles point was a battle as the Seminoles faced two nationally ranked pairs. Josh Dous-Karpenschif and Maks Silagy got FSU off to a 1-0 lead on line three with a 6-3 win. The Wolfpack evened it up on court one as the nation's 51st-ranked pair got the win for NCST. On court two, Andy Petrovic and Youcef Rihane faced the nation's No. 34 pair and took them to a tiebreaker before falling 6-7 (5-7).
Singles ended up being just as tight as doubles. Moving up to line two didn't seem to faze Petrovic at all as he was the first off evening the match at 1-1 with a straight-set 6-4, 6-3 win over the ITA's No. 101 singles player. The Wolfpack retook the lead with a win on line six, but Loris Pourroy continued his impressive dual match campaign with a 7-5, 6-1 win over the nation's 84th-ranked singles player as he moved to 8-1 in duals evening the match at 2-2.
"I was really pleased with how our guys played at one and two," said Hultquist. "They were able to get off quickly."
The last three matches all went to a third set. The Wolfpack took the first of the three-set matches on court three to pull within one point of the victory at 3-2. It didn't take long for the Seminoles to drawback to even at 3-3. Richard Thongoana bounced back after dropping his first set 5-7 to win the next two 6-3, 6-4 leaving the match up to court five where Dous-Karpenschif cruised in the third to secure the FSU win. The freshman won 7-6 (7-2), 2-6, 6-2 to clinch the match.
"I am most pleased with Rich," said Hultquist. "He was down a set and playing against an opponent that was playing really well. He battled back in some tough games to close out. For him to get the break on a deuce point, he went for it on the 5-4, 30-40 point, and then he played a great point and finished it off. Then Josh being put in that position as a freshman with the match on the line, fortunately he had a little cushion, he had the lead but it was a great comeback for him after losing the second set. A lot of matches went back-and-forth. Sebastian battled really hard as well."

No. 22 Men's Tennis Unable To Pull Off Upset Versus No. 6 Wake.
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - The No. 22 FSU men's tennis team pulled off one upset this weekend but they were unable to pull off a second. The Seminoles fell 7-0 to No. 6 Wake Forest on Sunday. Florida State is now 10-3 overall and 1-1 in conference play.
"Obviously Wake is one of the best teams in the country and probably the favorite to win the ACC," said FSU Head Coach Dwayne Hultquist. "I think we had a good opportunity in the doubles. We were winning at third doubles and didn't get a chance to finish it. At one point we were up a break at two and ended up losing a tight one. We lost a tight one at one as well. We got off a little bit behind. I think it would have been important to get that first point.
"We had lots of opportunities but Wake Forest really stepped up on the big points. We served at three and four for second sets and didn't hold. Those could have gone three sets. We had break points on one and two and then we did go three at five and six. There were a lot of matches that were tight but credit Wake because they won the big points today."
Wake got off to an early lead with a win on court one in doubles and finished off the point taking the match on court two. In singles, Wake's top two players, both ranked in the top 65 in the nation, were pushed in the first set by Loris Pourroy and Andy Petrovic. Wake took both first sets but not without a fight as both finished 7-5. On court two, Petrovic went to a tiebreaker in set two before falling as Wake clinched the win.
"We turn around and play two more ACC matches at home next week," said Hultquist. "We know it's Spring Break but we will be hoping to have a big crowd behind us."

Duke Edges 17th-Ranked Men's Tennis 4-3.
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - The 17th-ranked FSU men's tennis team dropped an epic college tennis match Friday night. The Seminoles fell 4-3 to No. 40 Duke in a seesaw battle that came down to a third set on the final court. The Seminoles (10-4, 1-2) fought back from 2-1 down to take the lead 3-2 but couldn't find one more point on the final two courts.
"I thought this was a great college match," said FSU Head Coach Dwayne Hultquist. "I thought we got off to a little bit of a slow start. I was pleased with the way some of our guys stepped it up in the second sets. Everyone is good in the ACC and we are going to have another battle Sunday against North Carolina."
The Seminoles fell down early after dropping the doubles point. Duke went up 1-0 with a win on line three. Maks Silagy and Josh Dous-Karpenschif evened things up on two with a 6-3 win. That left the decision to court one where the Blue Devils took the match and the point.
"Losing No. 1 doubles was crucial," said Hultquist. "We had a 4-1 lead and they came back and won it. I think that was a key point."
Youcef Rihane evened things up at 1-1 with a win on court five. Moments later Duke went right back in front closing out the point on line six then just as Duke went up FSU tied it again. Joshua Dous-Karpenschif won 6-1, 6-3 on line four bringing the match down to a best 2-out-of-3 on lines 1-3.
Loris Pourroy put FSU in front for the first time in the match. The junior, ranked 82nd in the most recent ITA rankings, improved to 9-2 on the year on line one with a 6-2, 6-4 victory. This time it was Duke's turn to even things up getting the point on line three leaving the deciding point to court two with the match tied 3-3. Andy Petrovic dropped his first set on two but fought back to push it to a third before falling 2-6, 6-1, 4-6.
"We kind of dominated one, four and five but we needed one more," said Hultquist. "I thought the level of effort was really high at two. I thought Andy did a great job getting it into a third set. He did a great job getting it to 4-4. He had a chance in that 4-4 game but his opponent played some good points to close it out."

No. 17 Men's Tennis Falls To No. 31 UNC.
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - For the fourth match in a row, the 17th-ranked FSU men's tennis team hosted a top 40 ACC opponent. On Sunday, the Seminoles fell behind early, pushed to narrow the gap but eventually fell to No. 31 North Carolina 4-2. This was the fifth top 40 opponent the Seminoles have faced in the last six matches and FSU now stands at 10-5 on the season.
"I thought we fought hard and we were close," said FSU Head Coach Dwayne Hultquist. "We had chances. We served for the second set on line six and got back to 5-5 at three. We really needed those matches to go three sets. We got the wins at four and five and we were battling at one and two but I felt that was the key to it. North Carolina plays really good doubles and they got us pretty good there. That is something we are going to have to work on and get better at.
"It was a hard-fought win for North Carolina and now we go on the road. We have played a lot of the better teams in the conference and now we go on the road and it will be important to play well on this first trip."
UNC took an early 1-0 lead with a win in doubles. FSU get an early win on court four as Josh Dous-Karpenschif won 6-3, 6-2 to move to 8-2 on the season. UNC moved back in front 2-1 with a win on line three. The Tar Heels moved one step closer to closing out the match with a win on court six. Youcef Rihane helped close the gap with his win on court five 6-4, 7-6 (7-3). With the Heels still leading 3-2, Loris Pourroy had just won a tiebreaker to push his match to a third set but before he got the opportunity UNC was able to close out court two in the third set for the win.
"Joshua and Yucef continued to have really good weekends beating really good players," said Hultquist. "They are both really improving and I am pleased with how they are playing.

No. 34 Men's Tennis Earns Crucial Win over No. 23 Notre Dame.
by Amanda Cover, FSU Sports Information Intern
SOUTH BEND, Ind. - The No. 34 Florida State men's tennis team (11-5, 2-3) earned a hard-fought 4-2 victory over No. 23 Notre Dame (12-6, 3-2) Friday in South Bend, Indiana. Redshirt freshman John Bernard won the clinching point for the Seminoles, the first of his career.
"It was a good team win," head coach Dwayne Hultquist said. "Playing at Notre Dame is always a tough place to play. JB really stepped it up to clinch it for us. I was really pleased with him being able to close it out."
The match began outdoors where the Noles won doubles on courts one and two. Maks Silagy and Joshua Karpenschif won in their first appearance on court one while a new pairing of Loris Pourroy and Andreja Petrovic claimed court two.
Rain forced the teams indoors where Notre Dame took control at the start, winning four first sets. FSU quickly responded with five wins in the second set.
Pourroy, on court one, and Youcef Rihane, on court five, each won in two sets to set up the Noles for victory.
"I was pleased with how the guys dug down in the second sets, and it gave us an opportunity for many different ways to win," Hultquist said. "Youcef did a great job of getting off quick, and Loris played one of the better ACC players, a guy who had beaten him last time, and got revenge today."
After dropping the first set, Bernard and Richard Thongoana both fought back to win the second set and advance to the third. Bernard clinched the fourth point for the Seminoles just as Thongoana was leading 40-30 tied 5-5 on court four.

No. 34 Men's Tennis Drops Close Match at Louisville.
by Amanda Cover, FSU Sports Information Intern
LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The No. 34 Florida State men's tennis team (11-6, 2-4) fell 4-3 at No. 47 Louisville (13-5, 5-1) on Sunday in a close conference match. FSU split the results on the weekend against two top-50 opponents.
"I thought it was a great college match," head coach Dwayne Hultquist said. "I thought we competed hard. I think we had some opportunities to win, and Louisville stepped it up at the end."
The Noles won the doubles point for the second time this weekend with decisive wins on court one by Maks Silagy and Joshua Karpenschif and court three by Alex Bulte and Youcef Rihane. Silagy and Karpenschif are now 17-7 this season, including four wins in ACC play.
After dropping two quick singles points to the Cardinals, Loris Pourroy and Andreja Petrovic leveled the score with wins on court one and court two, respectively. Pourroy, ranked No. 82 nationally, beat No. 92 Etienne Donnet in three sets for his fifth win this spring over ranked singles opponents.
"I thought Loris Pourroy did great today, really great match over a good player," said Hultquist. "He came up clutch in the third."
John Bernard battled to the end in a three-set match ending in a tiebreak win for Louisville on court six. Karpenschif played a solid first set but fell in the end on court three to close out the match.
"They fought back at one and three to go three sets, so we did three three-setters and whoever won two was going to win the match," said Hultquist. "You have to hand it to Louisville in the last two matches, 7-5 in the third and 6-4 in the third; they played well to get there."

No. 26 Men's Tennis Beats Tennessee Tech 6-1.
by Amanda Cover, Sports Information Intern
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - No. 26 Florida State men's tennis (12-6) downed Tennessee Tech (1-8) 6-1 on Saturday at Scott Speicher Memorial Tennis Center. FSU won the doubles point for the third straight match and earned five singles points.
"I thought it was a good day for us, a 6-1 win," said head coach Dwayne Hultquist. "They had a little adversity in that they only had five healthy players."
With the Eagles unable to field a full team, the Seminoles only needed to win one court to clinch doubles. Alex Bulte and Youcef Rihane won court two 6-2 to claim the doubles point.
"I thought we were really good at two doubles today, Alex and Youcef, ran away with that set," added Hultquist. "I liked how active Alex Bulte was at the net putting balls away."
FSU entered singles play already leading 2-0 due to Tennessee Tech's depleted roster. The Noles won the first set on all five courts.
"Once we got those first sets, it felt like we were in control of the match," shared Hultquist. "I would highlight Rich's effort, down 4-1 and coming back and winning 6-4."
John Bernard got off to a dominant start on court five and finished quickly in two sets to claim a singles point for the Noles. Rihane finished soon after on court four to clinch the win.
"I felt like it was a good overall day for us, and it gives us a bit of rest before we play on the road at Miami and Boston College," Hultquist said. "It's a hard road trip from the southern-most school to the northern-most school in this next week, so it's important for us to get rested and ready to go."

No. 30 Men's Tennis Falls at No. 36 Miami.
by Amanda Cover, Sports Information Intern
MIAMI, Fla. - The No. 30 Florida State men's tennis team (12-7, 2-5) dropped an away match 4-0 at No. 36 Miami (13-6, 2-5) on Wednesday afternoon.
"I thought we had a little bit of a slow start at doubles," head coach Dwayne Hultquist said. "We were in the position to win doubles up breaks at both one and two and had a couple match points to win the doubles, and I thought that really swung the momentum their way."
In a tight doubles match, Andreja Petrovic and Loris Pourroy earned the win on court two, but the Noles were unable to claim the doubles point as a team. No. 77 duo Maks Silagy and Josh Karpenschif dropped a close match 7-5 on court one while Alex Bulte and Youcef Rihane fell on court three against the Hurricanes' top two singles players.
Karpenschif and Pourroy both won the first set in singles play, and Karpenschif was one game away from winning on court four. Rihane lost set one in a tiebreak and was even with Miami when the match concluded.
After a tough score line in set one, John Bernard fought back in the second set to force a tiebreak but was unable to close it out to keep the Noles playing.
"I thought we were going to make a run back, but they were able to come back and close it out at number six," Hultquist said. "I think we're still playing with a bunch of young guys, and we're going to have to become more consistent in our effort each and every day."

by Amanda Cover, Sports Information Intern
WEYMOUTH, Mass. - The No. 30 Florida State men's tennis team (13-7, 3-5) earned an away victory 4-1 at Boston College (4-12, 0-8) on Saturday evening.
"I thought our guys did a great job bouncing back after losing the doubles point," head coach Dwayne Hultquist said. "It was very tight in doubles."
Despite Alex Bulte and Youcef Rihane winning on court three quickly, the Noles were unable to earn the doubles point after losing on courts one and two. No. 77 Maks Silagy and Josh Karpenschif dropped a close matchup on court one, 7-5.
FSU won the first set on all six courts in singles en route to beating the Eagles.
"I thought it was good that we got all six first sets," Hultquist shared. "We took control of the match from there."
Andreja Petrovic claimed the first point for the Noles on court two after surrendering only three games in two sets. Richard Thongoana finished quickly after on court three where he only gave up two games in his win.
"We got a couple quick wins from Andy and from Richard that put us in position to clinch it and finish it off," Hultquist added.
Freshmen Rihane and John Bernard secured the win with victories on courts five and six, respectively. Rihane earned the clinching point for his 12th singles win of the spring.

No. 33 Florida State Men's Tennis Falls 4-2 Against No. 8 Virginia.
by Amanda Cover, Sports Information Intern
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - No. 33 Florida State men's tennis (13-8, 3-6) earned two points against No. 8 Virginia (16-5, 9-0) on Friday night but was unable to claim a win in one of the toughest matches of the season, finishing 4-2 at Scott Speicher Memorial Tennis Center. The Noles faced two nationally ranked doubles pairs and four nationally ranked singles players from the Cavaliers.
"I thought it was a really good college tennis match," head coach Dwayne Hultquist said. "Obviously Virginia is a very good team; they're leading the ACC. I thought we were right there with them."
FSU handed Virginia only its second ACC doubles loss this season with wins on court three and court one. Alex Bulte and Youcef Rihane swept court three before Maks Silagy and Josh Karpenschif beat the 59th-ranked pair from Virginia to clinch the point.
"That was probably as good as we've played doubles all year," Hultquist added. "Winning 6-0 at three and 6-2 at one doubles was a really good start."
Rihane followed up his doubles performance with a singles win on court five in two sets. Both Andreja Petrovic and Richard Thongoana fought back after dropping the first set in singles to win the second and force a third against ranked opponents.
"I was pleased for Youcef to get the straight-set win over a very experienced and good player," Hultquist shared. "I would applaud Andy and Rich digging down, getting the second sets to put us in a position to win."
Petrovic fell just short in the third set against the No. 19 singles player in the country to finish the match. Thongoana was leading his match 6-5 in the final set against the No. 28 singles player when the Cavaliers clinched.
"Overall, it was a high-quality match between two good teams," Hultquist said. "We played five freshmen today and battled right with a top-10 team, and it's showing that we're getting better."

No. 33 Men's Tennis Downs Virginia Tech on Senior Day.
by Amanda Cover, Sports Information Intern
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - No. 33 Florida State men's tennis (14-8, 4-6) beat Virginia Tech (6-15, 2-8) 4-1 on Sunday at Scott Speicher Memorial Tennis Center as the Noles celebrated their seniors at the final home match of the season.
"I loved how we came out and took care of business in doubles again," head coach Dwayne Hultquist said. "We dominated both at two and three and got the early start. I think when we get a good start, we play well and play from ahead."
Both courts two and three claimed 6-1 wins in doubles to give the Noles a 1-0 lead. It was Alex Bulte and Youcef Rihane's third straight doubles win on court three while Andreja Petrovic and Loris Pourroy improved to 4-0 this spring.
Florida State won four first sets to open singles play, including senior Richard Thongoana on court three with a comeback win 7-5. He closed it out with a dominant win in the second set 6-1 to extend the Noles' lead.
Maks Silagy, in only his third singles appearance this season, notched a win on court six while Petrovic clinched the win on court two, both in straight sets.
"I thought the determining part of the match was the end of the first sets, and there were a bunch of tight matches going on," Hultquist added. "Maks got a first set, and very quickly we got four first sets when it could have been just two. Once we got to four, we controlled the match, got up in the second sets and finished it off."

No. 31 Men's Tennis Drops Match at Clemson 4-3.
by Amanda Cover, Sports Information Intern
CLEMSON, S.C. - No. 31 Florida State men's tennis (14-9, 4-7) fell 4-3 in a close match against No. 67 Clemson (11-12, 2-9) on Thursday evening in South Carolina.
"I was disappointed we lost doubles," head coach Dwayne Hultquist said. "We played very good doubles last weekend, and we had opportunities today but didn't convert on those in doubles."
FSU dropped a tight doubles point to the Tigers that was decided on court one. Andreja Petrovic and Loris Pourroy earned a win on court two, but Josh Karpenschif and Maks Silagy were unable to clinch on court one after trading games back and forth with Clemson.
The Noles claimed five first sets to open singles play including tiebreak wins for Petrovic and Silagy. Youcef Rihane won the first point for the Seminoles with a straight-set victory on court four.
After sweeping the first set, Karpenschif finished off his match in the third set to double the Seminoles' lead. Petrovic finished soon after on court two to set up the Noles to clinch. Unfortunately, Pourroy and Silagy both lost in three sets to fall just short of the win.
"I thought we did a good job coming back," Hultquist shared. "We won five first sets and put ourselves in position to win the match, and I think the key thing is that we didn't win enough second sets."

Karpenschif & Silagy Lead No. 31 Men's Tennis to 4-1 Win at Georgia Tech.
by Amanda Cover, Sports Information Intern
ATLANTA, Ga. - No. 31 Florida State men's tennis (15-9, 5-7) closed out the regular season with a 4-1 win at No. 58 Georgia Tech (8-13, 3-9) on Saturday afternoon.
"It was a great win for us today given we had a disappointing loss on Thursday night," head coach Dwayne Hultquist said. "We really bounced back well. There's a lot of people that deserve a lot of credit."
The Noles had an excellent start in doubles, featuring a win on court one by Maks Silagy and Josh Karpenschif over the No. 6 doubles pair in the nation. The win was Silagy and Karpenschif's third victory of the season over a ranked doubles pair.
Loris Pourroy and Bryn Nahrung clinched the doubles point on court two while Alex Bulte and Youcef Rihane were only one game away from also earning a win.
"Bryn stepped in at two doubles and played great with Loris and clinched it after Maks and Josh got the win at one," Hultquist added. "I thought we played really good doubles today, and we were in position to win the third doubles as well."
Rihane doubled the lead for FSU with a straight-set win on court four for his second singles win of the weekend.
On court one, No. 44 Pourroy fought hard to extend his match against No. 64 Andres Martin by winning a tiebreak in the second set. Sebastian Arcila was in a tiebreak on court three when the match concluded.
"I thought Loris and Sebastian extending their matches was really important and really gained us momentum," Hultquist shared.
After dropping the first set, Silagy battled back to win 6-2 in the second and third sets to set up the Noles to clinch. Karpenschif clinched the win on court five with a dominating third set, finishing 6-1.
"Josh and Maks really stepped it up after losing the first sets," Hultquist said. "They really played convincingly in the last little bit to get the win."

Pourroy Clinches ACC Tournament Win 4-3 Against Notre Dame.
by Amanda Cover, Sports Information Intern
ROME, Ga. - No. 32 Florida State men's tennis (16-9) beat No. 35 Notre Dame (16-12) 4-3 in the second round of the ACC Tournament behind a stellar three-set effort from Loris Pourroy to clinch the win.
"It was a great college match," head coach Dwayne Hultquist said. "I was really pleased with our resiliency after losing the doubles point. I thought our guys did a great job battling back."
The 89th-ranked doubles pair, Joshua Dous-Karpenschif and Maks Silagy, won on court one, but the Noles dropped the doubles point as a team.
Sebastian Arcila claimed the first point for the Noles in singles with a solid 6-3, 6-2 win on court four. Dous-Karpenschif fought back from an early deficit to win a tiebreak in the first set and finish out a straight-set win. Andreja Petrovic also earned a comfortable win on court two versus No. 119 Aditya Vashistha for the Fighting Irish.
"I loved how Joshua put his guy away quickly in the second," Hultquist shared. "I thought we had a great effort from Sebastian Arcila today. Andy got us the third point, and I felt like he really controlled the match."
The match was decided on court one between familiar foes No. 58 Loris Pourroy and No. 57 Axel Nefve. Pourroy won the first set but fell in the second. He battled back to win the third and claim the knockout win for the Seminoles.
"It came down to one, and I thought Loris, down a break 3-2, really stepped up his game," Hultquist said. "Those guys have played several times, and it's always a battle. Their guy is a great player, and Loris came through with the break at 5-4 in the third."

ATHENS, Ga. - No. 28 Florida State men's tennis (18-10) beat No. 11 Georgia (18-8) 4-3 in the second round of the NCAA Tournament Saturday at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex in Athens, Georgia.
"It was a great comeback, a great win for Florida State and for our program," head coach Dwayne Hultquist said. "Georgia is a tough place to play. They always have a great team, and this year was no exception to that, so it was a great win."
Florida State advances to the Round of 16 in the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2009 after earning the program's first NCAA Tournament victory over Georgia.
FSU earned the doubles point through a relentless effort by Maks Silagy and Joshua Dous-Karpenschif on court one. The duo battled back from behind to win a tiebreak and clinch the doubles point for the Noles. Loris Pourroy and Andreja Petrovic also won on court two.
"The doubles was great," Hulquist shared. "Maks and Joshua clinched it, and we had a great effort from Andy and Loris today to get us one point. We had two freshmen out there who beat two really experienced and really good doubles players."
Dous-Karpenschif extended his singles winning streak to five matches with a straight-set victory on court five. Silagy tied the score between the two teams with a win in three sets.
"At one point it didn't really look that good for us," Hultquist said. "We kept battling back. Josh finished it off, and Maks really stepped it up to get us to three all."
Sebastian Arcila fought back after losing the first set 7-5 to claim the second set 6-4. In thrilling fashion, Arcila won 7-5 in the third to clinch the upset for the Noles over Georgia.
"Sebastian played a great match against a really good player," Hultquist added. "He overcame an overrule, overcame a match point and finished it off with an ace. I'm really proud of him. He really stepped it up at the biggest time, and I'm sure this is something he'll always remember."

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. - No. 28 Florida State men's tennis (18-11) fell to No. 6 Tennessee (25-7) in the third round of the NCAA Tournament at Barksdale Stadium in Knoxville, Tennessee.
"It was a really good season for a young team," head coach Dwayne Hultquist said. "As the year went on, we improved. I'm really proud of them."
The Noles played a tight doubles round but were unable to earn the point. Alex Bulte and Youcef Rihane were on-serve on court three when the doubles finished.
"I thought Tennessee played really good doubles," Hultquist shared. "We had an early break at two doubles, but they really served well. At three doubles, I thought we played really well, but we couldn't get a break."
Joshua Dous-Karpenschif won the first set on court five and was only one game away from claiming a point for Florida State.
"I thought at the end we battled," Hultquist said. "We had opportunities at every position to get ourselves back. We were just a few points away from giving ourselves a chance to win the third sets."
Multiple Seminoles fought back after losing the first set to reach a tiebreak in the second set. Andreja Petrovic on court two and Rihane on court four each led their tiebreak when the match concluded.
"We've had a lot of outstanding wins, and guys have gotten better" Hultquist added. "Different guys came through all year long; each match it was a different guy. We had great chemistry from our guys. We worked hard to be a team which isn't always easy in an individual sport. I look forward to next year. The future is very bright."

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. - Loris Pourroy, the nation's No. 51-ranked singles player, competed in the NCAA Men's Tennis Singles Championship on Monday at the Khan Outdoor Tennis Complex in Champaign, Illinois. He dropped a 6-2, 4-6, 7-5 decision in three sets to No. 11 Hamish Stewart from the University of Georgia.
"Loris played a guy that he's played a couple times and battled hard today," head coach Dwayne Hultquist said. "It's a tough loss, but Loris has had a great year and has a lot to be proud of playing court one on the team, making the NCAA Tournament and lots of accolades and more to come."
It was a rematch of the second round of the team NCAA Tournament when Pourroy and Stewart competed on court one for their respective schools.
Pourroy dropped the first set Monday but battled back to win the second. He and Stewart were on-serve for the first nine games, placing Pourroy in the lead 5-4. He earned a break to claim the second set and force a deciding third set.
The third set was also even as the two were tied 5-5, but Stewart won the next two games to advance to the second round.
This was Pourroy's first appearance in the NCAA Singles Championship. The sophomore has been ranked since February 23, reaching as high as No. 44. Pourroy led the Seminoles in singles wins this season with 15, including six wins over ranked singles opponents.
