Men's Tennis Opens Season With 2 Wins.
TALLAHASSEE, FL - It has been 10 months since the FSU men's tennis team was last out on the courts playing a match. With the cancellation of the spring 2020 season and the fall 2021 season, the men had a long wait to get back to competition, but it didn't look like they'd lost a step Sunday. FSU opened up their spring schedule with two impressive wins, downing UNF 5-0 to start the day and wrapping up with a 7-0 win over Mercer in the afternoon.
"I think this is the longest stretch I've ever coached without playing a match," said Seminole Head Coach Dwayne Hultquist. "It's been 10 months. I think for our guys, it was a bit hard for them since we didn't play any collegiate matches in the fall. It was good to be out here, good to be playing two matches. I thought you could tell some of our guys haven't played as much competition; therefore, it may be a little harder to stay focused and on task. I was pleased.
"I always like it when we don't drop any matches like we did today. We dropped the third doubles this afternoon but still got the point. Playing two matches allowed us to play several people because we have a bunch of guys injured. One of this team's strengths is we can play a lot of people, and they are all good. It is good to get off to a 2-0 start."
Loris Pourroy led the way for the Seminoles from the No. 1 spot going 3-0 in singles and doubles on the day. The redshirt freshman from France wasn't alone in starting the season undefeated. Senior Marcus Walters won all three of his matches as well.
"Loris played great all day, as did Marcus. I thought Marcus played really well," said Hultquist.
Sophomore Andreja Petrovic had an impressive Seminole debut. The Oslo, Norway native won both his singles matches and both clinched the victories. Petrovic won by scores of 6-2, 6-3 this morning playing on court four and then moved up to court three in the afternoon and won again without dropping a set 6-0, 6-3.
"Andy is a newcomer and to get two wins and two clinching points, is really good for him," said Hultquist.
The Seminoles will continue their 2021 season with two matches this week. The Noles will host USA Friday at 3:00 p.m. at Speicher and then go on the road for one of just two out of conference away match of the season versus Georgia.
"We have a busy weekend next week," said Hultquist. "We have South Alabama Friday, and then we travel to play a top team in Athens versus Georgia."

Men's Tennis Responds To Tough Challenge From USA With 4-2 Win.
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - After nearly a year off, the Seminoles needed a match like they had Friday night. The University of South Alabama came into Tallahassee and took the doubles point from the Seminoles and then jumped out to leads in numerous singles matches before the Noles came back. FSU was pushed but in the end, found a way to come back and secure a 4-2 win to move to 3-0 on the season.
"South Alabama played really well," said Seminole Head Coach Dwayne Hultquist. "They have some guys that really smack the ball and I thought playing indoors was actually a little to their advantage. They quickly took the lead in doubles, got up a break on two and three and were able to hold on and get the doubles after we kind of climbed back in it.
"They got up early in the first sets in singles. I think it took our guys a while to get used to the pace of their serves and their forehands. We went down 3-0 at one, 3-0 on two and were down an early break at three. It was a battle. They are a very good team. They are an NCAA team. With us being without Alex (Knaff) and Rana (Singh Bullar), I thought it was a great win for us."
The Jaguars started strong taking the doubles point 2-0. Then Loris Pourroy fell behind 3-0 on court one. Marcus Walters, who cruised to a 6-1 win in the first set, then was pushed to a third after falling 6-1 in the second.
While the Seminoles were fighting on one, two and three, Andreja Petrovic and Enzo Le Seguillon were boosting the Noles hopes on four and six. Le Seguillon was first off with a 6-4, 6-3 win and Petrovic ground out a 7-6 first set win and then closed out his match at 6-4. Pourroy staged a furious comeback from 0-3 down to a 6-4, 7-5 win in between those two points. With the Seminoles up 3-2, Walters clinched the win taking his third set 6-4.
"We put Enzo in and I thought he was good today. He was the first one off. He helped us create some momentum," said Hultquist. "Andy continues to impress us and did well with a tough straight set win. Loris is pretty much good every day. He got us a straight set win and then Marcus clinched it. Marcus came up pretty clutch in the third set comfortably serving it out at 5-4."

Men's Tennis Falls At No. 10 Georgia.
ATHENS, Ga. - Traveling to the home of the nation's No. 10 team less than 48 hours after a match Friday night was always going to be a test for the FSU men's tennis team. Despite numerous close matches, the Bulldogs (2-0) were able to take down the Noles 7-0 Sunday afternoon. The loss was the first of the season for FSU (3-1).
"I want to congratulate Georgia for playing very well today," said FSU Head Coach Dwayne Hultquist. "They started very well and forced us to play from behind. Disappointed we didn't get to finish off a few matches that were close. We're looking forward to a big home match next week against Florida."
In singles, Loris Pourroy and Richard Thongoana pushed their ranked opponents on courts one and three. Pourroy lost to the nation's No. 9 player 6-4, 7-6 (7-5). Thongoana stretched the 73rd-ranked player in the nation to three sets before falling 4-6, 7-5, 6-4. Sebastian Arcila (6-2, 6-3), Andreja Petrovic (6-2, 6-2), Marcus Walters (6-2, 6-4) and Chase Wood (6-2, 6-3) each lost in straight sets.
The Seminoles dropped the doubles point to open the match. Walters and Pourroy fell 6-1, Petrovic and Thongoana lost 6-4 and Alex Knaff and Arcila had a 5-4 lead over the nation's No. 8 doubles team before the point was decided.

Men's Tennis Sees 13-Game Home Win Streak Snapped By Auburn 4-2.
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - You have to go back to April 5, 2019, to find the last time the FSU men's tennis team lost at home. The 13-game home winning streak that included an 8-0 run last year, came to an end Friday night when FSU (3-2) fell to Auburn (3-3) at the Scott Speicher Memorial Tennis Center by a score of 4-2.
After a nearly three-week layoff, FSU lost a close doubles point and fell behind 2-0 and 3-1 before they closed to within a point at 3-2 with two matches left. The clinching point came in a tiebreaker on court two in the second set putting Auburn over the top.
"We've gone through a lot of adversity over the last few weeks but we battled today," said FSU Head Coach Dwayne Hultquist. "I think the doubles was really important. We lost a tight doubles match. There was a deuce point we lost it on and we were winning on line three. We were up an early break on line two. That gave them momentum.
"Auburn really battled hard and were able to snap our home win streak. I was proud of our guys battling back. I thought Rich (Thongoana), being down by two, came back to be up 6-5 and then lost a tiebreaker, it would have been easy to go down but he fought his way back in that. Chase (Wood) had a couple set points in the first that he wasn't able to convert. They did a good job of closing out at lines four and six."
The Seminoles points came at lines one and five. Pourroy continued his strong start to 2021 improving to 4-1 with a 7-6, 6-2 win. Marcus Walters moved to 4-1 as well winning his match 6-1, 7-6.
"Loris has been good every day," said Hultquist. "Marcus had a nice win. It's been three weeks since we played and we need to come back strong tomorrow and see if we can get a win."

Men's Tennis Drops Saturday Contest Versus Tulane.
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - Tulane, which boasts the No. 40 and No. 53 singles players in the nation, came into Tallahassee and downed a shorthanded FSU men's tennis team 4-0 Saturday in the Indoor tennis facility. Playing without its two ranked singles players, the Seminoles fell to 3-3 on the season while the Green Wave upped its record to 5-2.
Despite the score, the Seminoles showed well at lines one and two in singles play. With Loris Pourroy and Richard Thongoana playing up a line, both pushed their top 55 opponents. Pourroy cruised to a 6-1 opening set win versus the nation's 40th-ranked player before dropping the final two sets 1-6, 2-6. Thongoana, facing the 53rd-ranked player, had a match point and was moving into a tiebreaker (6-4, 6-6) when the game came to an end. Andreja Petrovic was also in the lead in the third set (1-6, 6-4, 3-2) but wasn't able to finish.
"We had especially good efforts from one and two," said FSU Head Coach Dwayne Hultquist. "Rich (Thongoana) had a match point on his racquet there and didn't get to finish. It was positive how Andy (Petrovic) bounced back at No. 4 and was up in the third set. Given how we are shorthanded I thought the effort was strong."
Florida State had an opportunity in doubles as well. After dropping the first match, Pourroy and Marcus Walters won their match 6-4. On court two, Chase Wood and Bryn Nahrung came from 4-1 down to force a tiebreaker before falling 6-7 (3-7).
"I thought No. 1 doubles played really well today," said Hultquist. "We competed really well at two doubles as well. Had we gotten the doubles point there was a path to get it done and we played pretty far from behind after that. A lot of good competitive play and I think we will be better for having played these matches. Heading into ACC play next week it is a positive."

Men's Tennis Drops ACC Opener 4-3 To Clemson.
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - The Seminole men's tennis team opened ACC play on a frigid Friday night in Tallahassee. After dropping the doubles point and then falling behind 3-0, FSU fought back to tie the match at 3-3 before finally falling in the third set of the final match of the night. The loss dropped Florida State to 3-4 on the season.
"That was a tough loss," said FSU Head Coach Dwayne Hultquist. "Clemson played inspired tennis. I thought they played really well."
After a nearly three-hour battle, it was the opening 45 minutes that played heavily in the outcome. Chase Wood and Bryn Nahrung got FSU off to a 1-0 lead in doubles, which Clemson was able to even up. The Seminoles were unable to lock up the point though after falling 7-5 on court two.
"The doubles was pretty key," said Hultquist. "We were right there to get the doubles point. We won on three and lost on a deuce point that would have made it five all on one and then on two we were 5-5 and up 40-15 and ended up dropping the serve. I think that was the key to the match."
Loris Pourroy and Marcus Walters both continued their excellent starts to the season in singles as each improved to 5-2 with straight set wins. Richard Thongoana secured a point for FSU as well with his third win of the season, also in straight sets. Like doubles, the outcome came down to a winner-take-all in the final match of the night on court six. With the match even at 3-3, Andreja Petrovic fought back from a 3-6 loss in the first set by winning the second set 6-1. The sophomore couldn't come all the way back though falling 3-6 in the final set.
"We won three matches pretty comfortably in singles," said Hultquist. "Loris was excellent. After a slow start, he was dominant. Rich closed out in straight sets as did Marcus. It came down to Andy. I thought he competed well and fought back hard. The key point in the match was the deuce point that he lost at 2-3. He did a great job coming back after the first set and handled himself well but Clemson did a good job of finishing it off."

Men's Tennis Falls To Georgia Tech 4-3.
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - The Seminoles' path to victory Sunday afternoon came down to line two where Loris Pourroy was pursuing an upset of the nation's 59th-ranked singles player. Pourroy took Georgia Tech's Andres Martin to a tiebreaker in set three but came up just short as did the men's tennis team, falling 4-3 to the Yellow Jackets (6-3, 1-1).
"It was a great college match today," said FSU Head Coach Dwayne Hultquist. "Lots of momentum back-and-forth but ultimately it came down to a couple let cords and those went Georgia Tech's way. It was a really good battle at No. 2 singles to decide the match."
The Seminoles (3-5, 0-2) broke through in doubles to start the match. FSU took the point winning at both lines one and two, which included a huge upset by Alex Knaff and Sebastian Arcila. The pair took down the nation's 32nd-ranked doubles team 7-6 (7-2) to secure the point for the Noles.
"I thought we played better doubles than we had previously this year," said Hultquist. "We got the point there, which was a good start."
The Noles relied on their three most consistent players to try to get to four points and they almost came through yet again. Richard Thongoana won in straight sets 6-4, 7-6 (7-2) at line three and Marcus Walters came storming back at line five after dropping the first set to win his match 3-6, 6-4, 6-1. That left Pourroy, who has been playing as well as anyone on the roster, to pull the massive upset to secure the win. Pourroy won the first set 6-4, dropped the second 1-6 and then forced the third set tiebreaker before falling 6-7 (6-8) to No. 59 Martin.
"I thought Loris played really as did Martin from Georgia Tech," said Hultquist. "It was high-level tennis. Rich and Marcus continued their good play and they both went undefeated in singles this weekend. They continue to play well. We look forward to continuing to get healthier and I think we'll play better as the year goes on."

Men's Tennis Sweeps Tennessee Tech.
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - The FSU men's tennis team got a break from ACC play on Friday and the Seminoles took advantage of their return to non-conference play. Florida State faced Tennessee Tech in a doubleheader Friday and took both matches by scores of 4-3 and 6-1. The wins moved FSU to 5-5 on the season.
As has been the case so far in 2021, Loris Pourroy and Marcus Walters paced the Noles. Each won both their singles matches and as a doubles pair, they went 2-0 on the day as well. With four wins on Friday, Walters moved to 13-6 on the season while Pourroy is now 12-7 combined in singles and doubles.
"I thought we saw some important things in both matches," said FSU Head Coach Dwayne Hultquist. "It was good to get the doubles point in both matches today and get the wins."
Pourroy and Walters got the Seminoles to the verge of clinching with straight-set wins in the opener but the match came down to the final court where Alex Knaff continues to work his way back from early-season injuries. The 77th-ranked singles player clinched the win for FSU on one with a 7-5, 4-6, 6-2 win, his first of the season.
"The first match came down to Alex," said Hultquist. "It was 3-3 and I thought he did a really good job of getting out of a service game down 15-40 and then winning three points. He then ran away with the third set. With Alex coming back from injury, I thought he held in there and did a good job today."
While the first match of the day came down to the final point, the second wasn't as close. After taking the doubles point, Andreja Petrovic, Pourroy and Sebastian Arcila each secured singles points to get the Noles to four. Walters and Richard Thongoana closed out the doubleheader with three-set wins to give FSU the 6-1 victory.
"I thought we played better in the second match," said Hultquist. "I was really pleased to get a 6-1 win over a good Tennessee Tech team. We had solid performances from Loris and Andy to get off to a 3-0 lead. Then it was great to see Sebastian clinch the victory by pulling out the third set 6-4. Marcus and Rich rallied to win the last two.
"Our guys need matches and it was good for us to get a doubleheader in today. Now we look forward to getting back into ACC play with a road trip next week."

Men's Tennis Falls At No. 15 NC State.
RALEIGH, N.C. - The Seminoles' long road trip through ACC country continued for the men's tennis team Friday with a stop in Raleigh, NC. Facing their third straight ranked opponent, the Seminole men dropped their match to the 15th-ranked Wolfpack 4-0.
Facing two doubles teams ranked in the top 25 nationally, NCST was able to take the opening point with wins on both lines one and two as the nation's No. 9 and No. 23 pairs secured the point for NC State.
The Seminoles had a chance to pull two upsets in singles play. While they couldn't knockoff the nation's No. 7 player, Loris Pourroy was leading the nation's No. 95 player 7-5, 5-3 before NCST clinched and the match went unfinished. Both Sebastian Arcila and Andreja Petrovic took their first sets. Arcila was up 3-1 in the second and Petrovic was heading to a third when the match concluded.
"The boys started off with a lot of energy in doubles and got off to a good start," said FSU Head Coach Dwayne Hultquist. "We were right there in doubles, which would have caused a whole different result. I am pleased with how Sebastian fought back in the first set to put himself in the position to succeed. Loris has been doing great and had the match before it was cut short. Small adjustments on deuce points made a big difference today."

Pourroy Records Upset; Tennis Falls At No. 11 Wake Forest 5-2.
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - It will feel good to get home. The Seminole men's tennis team has spent a week on the road and faced four straight ranked opponents. On Saturday, it was No. 11 Wake Forest in Winston-Salem, NC. FSU pushed the Demon Deacons in doubles and singles but couldn't pull off the upset falling 5-2.
Yesterday, Loris Pourroy was on the verge of a Top 100 singles win when the match was clinched and he didn't get to complete the upset. Today, Pourroy was able to complete his match and secured a win over a ranked opponent that he wasn't able to finish Friday. The Seminole redshirt-freshman took down the nation's 107th-ranked singles player 6-4, 3-6, 7-6. Richard Thongoana also secured a point for the Noles. After dropping the first set 2-6, he won the second 7-6 and then secured the victory with a 13-11 win to settle the match.
The doubles point was once again within reach for the Seminoles. The point came down to line one after Chase Wood and Andreja Petrovic evened things up at 1-1 with a 6-4 win. Alex Knaff and Sebastian Arcila gave the nation's 18th-ranked doubles team everything they could handle before falling 6-4.

Men's Tennis Nearly Knocks Off #21 UCF Falling 4-3.
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - Another day, another ranked opponent for the FSU men's tennis team. The Seminoles faced their fifth-straight ranked team Friday night and were tied with No. 21 UCF 3-3 with the match coming down to line one. Alex Knaff, ranked 77th in the ITA, went three sets with the nation's 16th-ranked singles player before falling 7-6, 1-6, 6-1 in the deciding match.
"That was a really good college match," said FSU head coach Dwayne Hultquist. "UCF has a great team. It's probably the best team they've ever had. It was a hard-fought 4-3 loss."
After dropping an extremely tight doubles point 2-1 and falling behind 1-0 in singles, Richard Thongoana pulled a massive upset to breathe life back into the Noles. The redshirt sophomore's 6-3, 6-2 win over the nation's 52nd-ranked player kick-started the Noles but it was Loris Pourroy and Sebastian Arcila that brought the squad back to life. With the Seminoles trailing 3-1 and needing to win all three of the remaining matches, Pourroy once again came through with a straight set win taking the tiebreaker 7-5 in the second set to win 6-4, 7-6. Arcila was next off as he fought back after dropping the first set 4-6 by winning the next two sets 6-3, 6-1.
"I think the doubles point was key," said Hultquist. "We had a 4-1 lead at No. 2 doubles and end up losing that. We lost a bunch of deuce points at one and two doubles. We did get the win at No. 3 but we lost some key points. We dropped a deuce point at No. 1 at 4-4 on our serve and multiple deuce points at two doubles. That was the difference in the match.
"I thought we had some great efforts tonight in singles. Rich got off very quickly. I am pleased with how he did. I felt Sebastian had his best win of the year. A great win over a player that won the Big Fall Tournament down in central Florida. That was a really good win for him. He was very strong tonight. He has been working great in practice and it showed. Also, we have been getting lots of good wins from Loris. He continued that tonight. Some of our guys that lost also fought really hard. Andy (Petrovic) fought back from a bunch of match points. Alex (Knaff) came back and won the second set convincingly and Marcus (Walters) really battled in his second set."

Men's Tennis Drops Road Match At Florida.
GAINESVILLE, Fla. - Facing its sixth-ranked opponent in 14 days, the FSU men's tennis team faced the toughest task yet on the road Sunday at No. 2 Florida. The weather forced the match indoors after a 30-minute delay and it was UF that came away with the 7-0 win.
The Seminoles put up a serious challenge in doubles. Loris Pourroy and Marcus Walters pulled off a big upset taking down the nation's 45th-ranked doubles team 6-3 and Andreja Petrovic and Chase Wood nearly secured the point for FSU before falling 5-7.
In singles, the Seminoles faced five players ranked in the ITA top 100. On five of the six singles courts, FSU was facing a player ranked higher than his opponent. Pourroy took the #8 player to three sets (6-3, 0-6, 2-6) and Richard Thongoana also went three sets with the ITA's No. 85 (6-4, 5-7, 1-6) player but neither could pull off the upset.

Men's Tennis Upsets #33 Notre Dame.
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - Facing its seventh-straight ranked opponent, the FSU men's tennis team put together one of its most complete performances of the season beating No. 33 Notre Dame 6-1. From winning the doubles point to taking commanding early leads on three of the singles courts, and coming from behind on three other courts, the Seminoles (6-11, 1-6) never allowed the Fighting Irish to find any traction in the match, leading to the biggest win of the season for the Noles.
"We enjoyed playing in the great weather and in front of a nice crowd even though we are at limited capacity," said FSU head coach Dwayne Hultquist. "It was a fun evening to play.
"We play an incredibly tough schedule in the ACC and in non-conference as well. We played better last week than we had the previous week. We have had a lot of injuries and illnesses to overcome. Clearly, we are playing better every week. I think that will continue as the season goes on if we can continue to build on what we did tonight."
Florida State got off to a quick start taking the doubles point 2-0 in just over 30 minutes. Marcus Walters and Loris Pourroy, currently ranked No. 62 in doubles, cruised to a 6-2 win. Chase Wood and Andreja Petrovic were next off securing the point for FSU with a 6-1 victory.
"It was important to get the doubles point," said Hultquist. "I thought we played well all the way through in doubles."
The Seminoles moved in front 2-0 thanks to a straight set victory by Sebastian Arcila (6-1, 6-1) at line four. Petrovic added to the lead taking his match in straight sets (6-3, 7-5). With FSU in front 3-0, Walters didn't make the Speicher crowd wait long to celebrate the win. Just moments after Petrovic won, Walters closed out his match with a 6-0, 4-6, 6-0 victory to clinch for FSU. Richard Thongoana added to the Seminoles' point total winning in three sets 3-6, 6-3, 6-4 and Loris Pourroy was last off and the last point for FSU as well as the redshirt-freshman came back after dropping the first set to win 4-6, 7-5, 6-3.
"We got early leads and held on to those," said Hultquist. "I think one of the keys to the match was how well we played in second sets today. Alex (Knaff) lost the first and won the second. Rich lost the first and won the second and Loris lost the first, was down 4-0, and came back to win the second. That took the steam out of their ability to come back."

Men's Tennis Falls To Louisville.
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - Florida State got out to a strong start Sunday afternoon in doubles but couldn't carry the momentum into singles falling to Louisville 4-1. The Seminoles had opportunities on the day taking three of the singles matches into a third set but were unable to secure any of those victories.
For the second time this weekend, the Seminoles got out to the lead by taking the doubles point. Andreja Petrovic and Chase Wood came off first with a 6-4 win. After the Cardinals evened things up at 1-1, Loris Pourroy and Marcus Walters clinched the point with a 7-5 victory.
Louisville vaulted into the lead securing the first two points in singles in straight sets. Pourroy and Petrovic both had chances to put the Seminoles back on the board but each fell in the third set of their match. Sebastian Arcila was looking to point as well as he was tied 1-1 in the third set when the match was clinched and Richard Thongoana was in-line to take the nation's No. 63 singles player into a third set as well.

Wood's Clutch Performance Clinches Men's Tennis' Victory Over FAU.
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - With nearly the entire third set played after all the other matches had ended, the spotlight was on redshirt-junior Chase Wood in a rare start Friday. The Knoxville, TN native was on court six in a 3-3 match and moving into the deciding set. Wood fought off two breaks to take his match 7-5, 4-6, 6-4 and secure the win for the Seminoles over FAU.
"That was a really good victory," said FSU head coach Dwayne Hultquist. "FAU has a very good team. There's a pretty good chance they are an NCAA Tournament team. They have had some good wins this year and I thought they did a good job of battling back in singles.
"It came down to number six and Chase has been in that position a lot and come through a lot. He clinched versus No. 1 Wake Forest a few years ago. He clinched against Cal-Berkley his sophomore year. Chase has risen to the occasion when he has been put in that position. I am really pleased for him to have a really big win like this."
Florida State took the early lead securing the doubles point in just 30 minutes. The nation's No. 73 doubles pair of Loris Pourroy and Marcus Walters came off first with a convincing 6-1 win. Richard Thongoana and Sebastian Arcila weren't far behind securing the win with a 6-2 victory.
"Doubles was excellent," said Hultquist. "We got off to early leads and picked up the point rather easily. We have been growing and getting better in doubles the last few weeks."
Pourroy, playing on line one, made quick work of his opponent in singles putting FSU in front 2-0 with a 6-2, 6-2 win. Arcila quickly secured the third point for the Seminoles with his straight set 6-2, 6-4 win. After FAU tied the match up at 3-3, it came down to line six and Wood. The redshirt-junior, who had played in just six singles matches in 2021 prior to Friday, came through and clinched the victory.
"Loris got us off to a great start to get us to two," said Hultquist. "Sebastian was sharp today to get us the third point."

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - The Florida State men's tennis team fell to No. 46 Miami Thursday night, 4-2.
The Seminoles fell behind early after losing the doubles point to Miami. The Hurricanes took court one 6-3 from Marcus Walters and Loris Pourroy. UM clinched the doubles point with a 6-4 win on court three over Chase Wood and Andreja Petrovic.
"I felt like we got off to a good start in the doubles," said head coach Dwayne Hultquist. "We were up breaks on two courts but they swung it and that really changed the momentum of the match. If we got the doubles point we had some chances because we won a bunch of first sets."
Miami expanded their lead to two after a 6-1, 7-5 win on court two over Alex Knaff. The Seminoles narrowed the lead to one after Chase Wood took care of business on court six, 6-3, 6-3.
"Chase has played really well late into the season," said Hultquist. "I am proud of him and Sebastian as well."
Miami took a 3-1 lead with a three-set win on court one over Pourroy. Loris lost the first set 4-6 before forcing a third set with a 6-2 win in the second set. He would go on to lose the third set 6-2.

Tennis Stages Epic Comeback To Down No. 34 Notre Dame.
ROME, Ga. - The Seminole Men's Tennis extended its stay at the ACC Championships in dramatic fashion Thursday afternoon after an epic battle with No. 34 Notre Dame. Three of the singles matches went to three sets and there were six tiebreakers in total but in the end, FSU secured points on courts 3-6, coming from 3-1 behind to take the match 4-3. Florida State fell behind 1-0, then 2-0 and then 3-1 but went 4-1 in singles tiebreakers and won two of the three matches that went to three sets.
"What a great college match," said FSU Head Coach Dwayne Hultquist. "Going down 3-1 we had to dig deep to get the win. This team has continued to play better every week as the year has gone on."
Florida State dropped a razor-thin doubles point. Alex Knaff and Sebastian Arcila got the Seminoles off to a lead with a 6-4 win on line two. The nation's 37th-ranked doubles team from Notre Dame evened it up by narrowly defeating FSU's 43rd-ranked team of Loris Pourroy and Marcus Walters 5-7. That left it up to Andreja Petrovic and Chase Wood on court three. The match came down to a tiebreaker where Notre Dame secured the point 6-7 (2-7).
With the match tipping towards the Fighting Irish in singles, both Walters and Chase Wood almost simultaneously turned things around. Each won tiebreakers in the first set to start to swing things in the Seminoles' favor. Petrovic won 6-4, 6-2 to cut the FSU deficit to 2-1. After falling behind the Irish 3-1, Walters won a second tiebreaker to secure another point for the Seminoles with a 7-6 (8-6), 7-6 (7-5) win. With the lead once again cut, Arcila was down 2-5 in the third set on court three before fighting back to surge in front 6-5. The junior then won the fourth tiebreaker of the day for FSU to even things at 3-3. That left it up to Wood on court six. After splitting the first two sets, Wood fell behind 1-3 in the third but closed out the win by taking five of the next six games for a 6-4 win.
"Chase has been great his entire career with the match on the line," said Hultquist. "He has won numerous times when he has been in that position including securing a win over No. 1 Wake Forest a few years ago. What a great senior moment for him.
"Seb was unbelievable as well. He was down 5-2 in the third and down in every service game. A really clutch performance."

Men's Tennis Falls In ACC Quarterfinals.
ROME, Ga. - After winning on Wednesday and Thursday, the FSU men's tennis team was trying to pull off another upset to advance at the ACC Championships. The Seminoles took down No. 34 Notre Dame yesterday but were unable to move to the semifinals falling to No. 25 NC State 4-1.
Florida State dropped the doubles point falling on lines one and two. In singles, Sebastian Arcila pointed for FSU with a 6-4, 6-4 win. Andreja Petrovic was in a third set and Alex Knaff in a tiebreaker in the second leading 1-0 before the match was clinched by the Wolfpack.
"The guys battled hard today," said FSU Head Coach Dwayne Hultquist. "I thought we were a little slow to start the match and they jumped on us in doubles. We battled back in singles and had an opportunity to win four first sets but lost a tight one on line three. Loris did a great job of battling back to take the second set against one of the best players in the country."
