The turnaround of the match was when we came out for singles and Loris (Pourroy), Rana (Roop-Singh Bhullar) and Sebastion (Arcila) all got up early and getting that lead put us back in the match. Courts one, two and three we were back and forth the whole match. Juni (Jalif) was down a set and a break so him fighting back and winning that second set was huge. I think the fight that we saw from the team to be down but come back was crucial and is why we won today. We proved a lot today and we also showed how important our depth is and every point is worth the same."
The Noles started off slow in doubles as Mississippi State took the doubles point to earn the first point of the day. The Bulldogs took court two 6-1 and later took court three 6-2.
Florida State came out hot in singles with courts four, five, and six getting early leads. Freshman Loris Pourroy earned the Seminoles first point with a win over Alberto Colas 6-1, 6-2 on court five. Arcila captured the lead for Florida State 2-1 with a 6-4, 6-1 win on court four. Bhullar followed up with a 6-3, 6-1 victory on court six to extend the lead to 3-1.
The match came down to three third set thrillers as courts one, two and three battled it out with hopes of leading Florida State to an upset victory. Court three was the first to fall as Mississippi State won 6-1, 4-6, 6-3. The match came down to Jalif on court two against MUS's Florian Broska. The third set went back and forth but Jalif came in clutch winning the match for Florida State 1-6, 7-5, 7-5.
"Juni (Jalif) was clutch and he has done that before for us," said Hultquist. "Seems that when the moment gets bigger, he raises to that level."
After clinching the match, Knaff continued the battle on court one eventually coming out on top 5-7, 7-6, 6-4.
"The crowd was great and it was standing room only at the start of the match," said Hultquist. "The crowd makes a difference and that's a reason why we have won so many great matches over the past few years."

No. 21 Men's Tennis Advances to Kick-Off Weekend Final with a 4-2 Win Over Vanderbilt.
AUSTIN, Texas - The No. 21 ranked Florida State men's tennis
team (6-0) advanced to the final of the ITA Kick-Off Weekend with a 4-2 win over Vanderbilt (2-1). The Seminoles will have an opportunity to advance to the National Indoors Championship tomorrow at 1
p.m. when they take on No. 1 Texas at the Texas Tennis Center.
"It was another good win over a very strong SEC team," said head coach Dwayne Hultquist. "I thought we really set the tone in doubles by getting out to early leads. Our energy level was good which was a great start to the match. Singles had very tight first sets, we were fortunate enough to take four first sets and then Vanderbilt made a little bit of a run on us. The keys to the match were Rana (Roop Singh Bhullar) getting off quick, Marcus (Walters) finishing off his second set and of course with Sabastian (Arcila) clinching the win. It was a windy day and we did an outstanding job handling that. It was a solid win and now we look forward to playing the No. 1 team in the country tomorrow on the Longhorn Network. It should be an exciting day for us and I think it will be a really great match."
The Noles started the match out with energy by taking the doubles point. Freshman Loris Pourroy and sophomore Juan Martin Jalif took down the Commodore's George Harwell and Max Freeman 6-3 on court two. The doubles point was clinched as senior Alex Knaff and junior Sebastian Arcila took court one 6-4.
Florida State jumped out to a quick lead in singles taking the first sets on courts two, three, four and six. Senior Rana-Roop Singh Bhullar dominated once again taking court Six, 6-1, 6-4. Vanderbilt would fight back to take court five.
Walters gained the momentum back for the Garnet and Gold on court four by taking down Vanderbilt's Marcus Ferreira 6-3, 7-6 (6-3). For the second time this season, Arcila secured the clinching point with a 6-1, 4-6, 6-1 victory over Max Freeman at No. 3 singles.

No. 21 Men's Tennis Falls to No. 1 Texas in ITA Kick-Off Weekend Championship.
AUSTIN, Texas - The No. 21 ranked Florida State men's tennis team (6-1) suffered their first loss of the season to No. 1 ranked Texas (4-0) on Sunday at the Texas Tennis Center. The Seminoles fell 4-0 in the ITA Kick-Off Weekend championship match.
"We got off to a slow start in doubles," said head coach Dwayne Hultquist. "I thought we came out strong in singles getting early breaks at one, two, three, and six. I was pleased with the effort of the seniors (Alex Knaff and Rana-Roop Singh Bhullar) who were both winning when Texas clinched the match."
The Garnet and Gold started the match down 1-0 after losing the doubles point to Texas. The Longhorns earned 6-1 victories on courts one and three. Knaff and junior Sebastian Arcila were the first to fall on court one and were soon followed by FSU's junior duo of Marcus Walters and Chase Wood losing 6-1 on court three.
The Longhorns continued their momentum from singles as they took four of the six first sets from the Noles. They took the 2-0 lead starting with court four, taking it 6-1, 6-4. Texas extended their lead with another straight-set win on court three, 6-3, 6-3.
The Seminoles were defeated on court five 6-4, 6-2 to close out the match. On courts one and two, seniors Knaff and Bhullar earned first set victories and were battling out in their second sets when the Longhorns clinched the match.
"I am disappointed Alex (Knaff) didn't get to finish his match against the No. 2 ranked singles player (Yuya Ito) as he was up a set and 4-1 in the second," said Hultquist. "Now we look forward to playing this weekend at Lake Nona against Florida on the Tennis Channel, which should be a very exciting match."

No. 21 Men's Tennis Falls to No. 2 Florida 4-1 During USTA'S College MatchDay.
LAKE NONA, Fla.- The No. 21 Florida State men's tennis team (6-2) sustained their second loss of the season 4-1 to No. 2 Florida as part of the USTA's College MatchDay series in Lake Nona, Fla.
"It was a great atmosphere out here today for College MatchDay," said head coach Dwayne Hultquist. "I am excited that college tennis is on the tennis channel and their commitment to being involved in the college game. We are disappointed that we lost but we love the fact that we were able play in a great environment. One of the keys in the doubles matches today was that we had 10 deuce points, but we only won two. I think if we won more of those deuce points than doubles would have been a little different. Florida did a good job of coming out in singles and I thought we fought hard to try and stay in the match."
In front of a sold out crowd, Florida State took on Florida at the USTA National Campus for the fourth year in a row. The Noles got off to a slow start in doubles losing on court three 6-3. At that time court one was tied 2-2 and court three was tied 3-3. The Seminoles fought hard but were unable to pull out the doubles win as Florida took court two 6-4.
In singles, Florida continued their momentum from earning the doubles point. The Garnet and Gold were able to earn two first set wins over the Gators, 6-3 on courts one and five. Florida extended their lead to three with two quick victories, a 6-2, 6-4 win on court six and later a 6-4, 6-3 win on court three.
Freshman Loris Pourroy kept Florida State in the match as he battled to an impressive 6-3, 7-6 (7-3) victory over UF's Josh Goodger on court five. Right after Pourroy was able to put Florida State on the scoreboard, Florida fought back and sealed the victory on court four 6-1, 6-4.

No. 22 Men's Tennis Takes Down Auburn 4-3.
AUBURN, Ala. - No. 22 Florida State men's tennis (7-2) defeats Auburn (6-2) 4-3 on the road at the Yarbough Tennis Center on Friday afternoon.
"It was a good road win," said head coach Dwayne Hultquist. "I am particularly pleased with the senior leadership from Rana who was down a set but came back and won the match. We went down 1-0 after doubles, but I think it was really key that the guys fought back in singles and took control at the end there. I thought the team played well together; it was a battle but I am pleased with getting the win out of it."
The Seminoles started the afternoon battling it out in doubles. Auburn struck first on court three with a 6-0 victory, but senior Alex Knaff and junior Sebastian Arcila quickly struck back with a 6-3 victory on court one. Court two went into a tie break but saw Florida State fall short, losing the doubles point 7-6 (7-3).
In singles, both teams continued to battle it out as the Garnet and Gold earned three first set wins on courts one, two, and five. Freshman Loris Pourroy earned the first point for the Noles with a 6-1, 6-2 win on court five. Junior Juan Martin Jalif followed closely behind with a 6-3, 6-1 win of his own on court two to give the Seminoles the 2-1 lead.
Auburn tied the match 2-2 with a 6-4, 6-4 victory on court four. Just like before, the Noles struck back as No. 56 ranked Knaff won on court one with a 7-6 (8-6), 6-4 decision. The match was yet again tied after AU took court three in a three-set battle 6-1, 4-6, 6-4.
All eyes were then on court six as No. 108 Rana-Roop Singh Bhullar battled it out against Spencer Gray of Auburn for the match. Bhullar split with Gray after the first two sets ended in tie breaks. He continued to fight in the third, gaining momentum by starting off the third 3-1. The senior never looked back as he dominated Auburn's Spencer in the third set 6-3 to clinch the win for Florida State.

No. 18 Men's Tennis Remains Undefeated at Home.
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - The No. 18 Florida State men's tennis team (9-2) defeated Tennessee Tech (1-4) on Saturday Morning, 5-2, and carried that momentum to the afternoon to pick up a 6-1 victory over Buffalo (2-4) to extend their home record to 7-0 at the Scott Speicher Memorial Tennis Center.
"I think it's great to have an undefeated weekend and to continue our undefeated record at home," said senior captain Alex Knaff. "Obviously having a crowd here helps us a lot and gets us pumped. We are comfortable on these courts and being undefeated at home up to this point helps us going into conference play because it gives us a lot of confidence going up against any ACC team we will face at home."
Florida State began the doubleheader against Tennessee Tech early Saturday afternoon. Knaff and Pourroy got the ball rolling in doubles early with a 6-0 victory on court one, but the Golden Eagles soon matched with a win on court two. On court three, senior Rana-Roop Singh Bhullar and sophomore Richard Thongoana felt no pressure as they clinched the doubles point with a 6-4 win.
In singles, No. 104 ranked Bhullar earned the first singles win for FSU 6-1, 6-3 on court four to extend the lead to two. Tennessee Tech responded with a win on court three, but junior Chase Wood quickly responded on court six 6-2, 6-4 to give the Noles the 3-1 lead. No. 82 Knaff clinched the match for Florida State with a 4-6, 6-0, 6-2 comeback victory on court one.
Although the Seminoles already earned the win, courts two and five continued to play out their matches. The Golden eagles earned their second point on court two and junior Enzo Le Seguillon put the finishing touches on the first match by taking court five, 6-4, 4-6, 3-2 (11-9).

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - Looking to continue the home success, Florida State was set to take on Buffalo in the back half of the doubleheader.
In doubles, Bhullar and Thongoana got the Noles started with a quick 6-2 victory on court three. The Bulls would take a win on court two, 6-4, forcing court one to come out victorious. Knaff and Pourroy did exactly that, after being down 2-5 the pair battled pack to win five straight points to clinch the doubles point.
"I think having doubleheaders and playing a lot of matches is always tough, but I think we showed a lot of grit especially in the Buffalo doubles match," said Knaff. "Loris (Pourroy) did a great job today, especially with today being our first time playing together, we kept fighting and were able to win the tough points."
The Garnet and Gold headed into singles as Wood got off the courts first as he swept his opponent 6-0, 6-0. Shortly after, the Bulls earned their only point of the match on court two as the Noles would then go on to win four straight matches.
Bhullar got the wins started on court three as he continued his successful day earning a 6-3, 6-0 win. Le Seguillon followed suit with a 6-2, 6-3 win of his own to clinch the match. Court one and court four continued to play out their matches with Thongoana finishing his match on court four, 6-4, 6-2. Knaff closed out the day the only way he knows how, with a win on court one 7-5, 6-1.
"I really felt like the key of the match against Buffalo was Alex (Knaff) and Loris (Pourroy) being down 5-2 and battling back to win the doubles point, that gained us a lot of momentum," said head coach Dwayne Hultquist. " A bunch of the guys got off to good early starts and put us in a good position to win both matches today. Now we look forward to our match at Lake Nona and then we start conference play next weekend."

No. 15 Men's Tennis Battles Hard But Comes Up Short Against Oklahoma, 4-3.
LAKE NONA, Fla. - The No. 15 Florida State men's tennis team (9-3, 0-0) dropped a hard-fought battle 4-3 to Oklahoma (7-4, 0-0) on Friday at the USTA National Campus in Lake Nona, FL.
"It was a great college tennis match, unfortunately, we came out on the short end," said head coach Dwayne Hultquist. "Oklahoma's guy at six really came up big at the end to clinch the match. We had other opportunities, I thought our guys fought hard and came back very well after losing doubles to win one, two and three in straight sets and to go three sets in all the other matches. It's unfortunate we couldn't sneak one of those out. I do think Oklahoma played very well in the deuce points late in the sets and I thought that was the difference in the match."
The Seminoles started off the match losing their fifth doubles point of the season. Oklahoma earned their first doubles win on court one, 6-2. Not long after, the Sooners clinched the doubles point on court two, 6-4.
Freshman Loris Pourroy struck first in singles to earn the Noles their first point of the match on three 6-4, 6-2. No. 82 ranked senior Alex Knaff followed suit with another straight-set win on court one against Oklahoma's No. 107 ranked Jake Ban Emburgh 6-2, 6-3. Junior Sebastian Arcila extended the FSU lead 3-1 after dominating to a 6-4, 6-2 win on court two against OU's No. 100 Mason Beiler. This would be FSU's last point of the match as Oklahoma then went on to win three consecutive singles points.
The Sooners first fought back on four as No. 104 senior Rana-Roop Singh Bhullar forced a third set with Alex Martinez of OU. The third set was back and forth but Oklahoma took the match 6-3, 3-1, 6-4. Court five and six were also heading into third sets as the Sooners would soon take five 6-4, 3-6, 6-3. Oklahoma clinched the match on six winning 6-4, 1-6, 6-4.

Noles Open ACC Tennis Play With A Win Over Georgia Tech.
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - The No. 15 Florida State men's tennis team (10-3, 1-0) earned their first ACC win of the season with a thrilling 4-1 win over Georgia Tech (7-5, 1-2) at the Scott Speicher Memorial Tennis Center.
"It was a good win today over a very good hard-fought team," said head coach Dwayne Hultquist. "Georgia Tech came out and got the doubles point on us, but I thought we responded well in singles getting all six first sets to gain control of the match. They fought back and won three-second sets, but we gave ourselves a lead in those third sets. The key was we fought on all three courts and gave ourselves three options. Rana (Roop Singh Bhullar) got it done in a pretty physical match and I am pleased with how our guys came through at the end."
The Seminoles fell behind early after losing their sixth doubles point of the season. Senior Alex Knaff and freshman Loris Pourroy teamed up for their second time this season to earn the only doubles win 6-1. The Yellow Jackets not long after took court two 6-3 before capturing court three 6-4 to take the doubles point.
The whole match changed once singles started as Florida State jumped out to take all six first sets and earned three consecutive points. Junior Sebastian Arcila earned the first Seminole point on court two with a dominant 6-2, 6-2 win. Pourroy followed him up with an easy 6-4, 6-3 on court three. Junior Chase Wood finished off the streak with a quick win of his own 6-2, 6-4 on court six.
Up 3-1 the Garnet and Gold gave up three-second sets on courts one, four and five as they all headed into the third sets. No. 104 ranked Bhullar won the first set swiftly 6-3 but Georgia Tech's Brandon Freestone fought back to take the second set 6-4. The third set was back and forth but the Bhullar eventually came out on top 7-5 to clinch the Seminole win 4-1.

"I was pleased to get off to a quick start in doubles," said head coach Dwayne Hultquist. "We got up early breaks on courts two and three then later on court one to close out doubles and gain momentum. Freshman Loris Pourroy put on an impressive performance taking court three in straight-sets 6-0, 6-0. Junior Enzo Le Seguillon followed him up with an easy 6-1, 6-2 victory on court five. Bhullar finished off the Tigers with a quick win of his own 6-2, 6-3 to clinch his second consecutive match for Florida State.
"It's kind of becoming a habit for Rana to clinch the wins for us as he got the win, 4-0," said Hultquist. "I think when you play on the road it's nice to get a strong effort like that and get out with a win and not have to extend ourselves deep into the match like we had to last weekend."
