The duo of Gracia and freshman Chase Wood as well as seniors Terrance and Terrell Whitehurst both came out on top in the first round of doubles. Gracia and Wood dominated in their first match together as they took down the team of Grant Stuckey from Alabama and Chase Schupp of Tulane, 8-1.

The Whitehurst brothers fell behind 3-0 to Jochen Bertsch and Jake Van Emburgh of Oklahoma. The duo turned it around and came out on top, 8-5.
"It was good to see the Whitehurst twins storm back from a slow start to take a convincing win over a good Oklahoma team," said DeHeart.

"I thought it was some pretty tough conditions out there," said Wood. "It was really hot out there. The points were really long and I lost the first set 6-3. I had to battle back in the second to win 6-1. I threw open the changeover in the second and third set, but luckily I was able to regroup and finish strong."

He got a win over Daniel Kerznerman who beat us last year and followed it up with a tiebreaker in the third under really hot conditions. I thought as the match wore on he was the more physical player and really used his forehand to his advantage."

Men's Tennis Opens Season With A Shutout Victory Over Hawai'i.
Seminoles start the season 1-0 after defeating Hawai'i 7-0.
HONOLULU, HI - The No. 21 ranked Florida State men's tennis team (1-0) got their season started on the right note with a 7-0 domination of the University of Hawai'i (0-1).
"The season got started really quick," said head coach Dwayne Hultquist. "We did not have much time to practice and we started quicker than I would normally like. We got off to a 1-0 start and hopefully, we can build on that and get better."
It all got started on the doubles courts as the Seminoles swept the Warriors. Redshirt senior Guy Iradukunda and junior Aziz Dougaz earned the first doubles point for the Garnet and Gold as they earned a 6-4 victory over Blaz Seric and Lucas Labrunie of Hawai'i. Redshirt seniors Jose Gracia and Lucas Poullain clinched the doubles point as they took down Fabian Woehrl and Felix Albert 6-3. Senior twins, Terrance and Terrell Whitehurst capped off the doubles competition with the Seminoles third win, 6-3.
"It was nice to get all three of the doubles matches," said Hultquist. "I thought Hawai'i did a pretty good job of hanging in there. We ended up serving out all three of them. They were tight sets, 6-3, 6-3 and 6-4."
Florida State took their momentum from the doubles round and brought it into singles play as they swept the singles competition.
"We had a really good start in singles," said Hultquist. "Actually, won the first sets fairly handily. I thought Hawai'i did a nice job of staying in the match, winning two of the second sets and being up a break in the third one. I thought Hawai'i fought hard and has a good team. They clearly didn't go away, and it got harder in the second sets."
Poullain got things started as he ran through his opponent 6-2, 6-3. Iradukunda followed him up with a 6-4, 6-3 victory to give the Noles a 3-0 advantage over the Sandbows. Freshman Chase Wood earned his first match-clinching point as he took down Fabian Woehrl on court five.
The Garnet and Gold did not stop there as sophomore Rana-Roop Singh Bhullar earned a 6-4, 7-6 victory on court six. The Noles pulled ahead 6-0 when Dougaz fought to a three-set, 6-1, 6-7, 6-3 victory. Gracia capped off the sweep for the Garnet and Gold with a three-set victory of his own.
"I was pleased that we got all wins, but tomorrow is another day and we are going to have new match-ups," said Hultquist.

No. 21 Men's Tennis Extend Their Win Streak to Three.
Seminoles improve to 3-0 after defeating Texas Tech.
HONOLULU, HI - The No. 21 ranked Florida State men's tennis team (3-0) continued their hot start by defeating No. 24 Texas Tech (1-1) 6-1, to earn head coach Dwayne Hultquist his 33rd career victory against a Top-25.
"I thought this match was good early season win," said Hultquist. "For us to get a Top-25 before most people have even played is great. To get off to a 3-0 start is great as well."
The Seminoles earned their third doubles point of the season after taking the matches on courts one and three. Seniors, Terrance and Terrell Whitehurst got things started for the Noles in doubles as they swiftly took down their opponent 6-3. On court one redshirt seniors Jose Gracia and Lucas Poullain battled against Texas Tech's No. 29 ranked doubles team of Jackson Cobb and Alex Sendegeya. After being tied 2-2 Gracia and Poullain fell behind before tying it back up at five all. The Seminole duo pulled ahead and earned a 7-5 win on court one to clinch the doubles point.
Senior Guy Iradukunda earned the Noles first singles point after defeating Artem Kapshuk 7-5, 6-3 on court three. Poullain quickly followed as he made quick work of Connor Curry on court two, 6-3, 6-1.
In the third set on the last four courts, the Seminoles fought. Gracia fell in two sets, 7-6 (4), 6-4, leaving the Seminoles a 3-1 lead. Not too long after junior Aziz Dougaz clinched the match for the Garnet and Gold with a 4-6, 6-3, 6-1 victory on court one.
"It was a good day for us as a team," said Dougaz. "I didn't play my best tennis on this trip. We were able to fight has a team and give everything we had even on the bad days and that is the mentality of the team and what will allow us to go far this season. I think it is important to say even when we are not playing our best tennis we are mentally there and that is what is going to allow us to go far this season."
Sophomore Rana-Roop Singh Bhullar and freshman Chase Wood finished things up for the Noles giving them a 6-1 victory over the Red Raiders. Wood fought down a 5-3 deficit to win his match 7-5.
"I think the one thing that showed today was how much depth we have," said Hultquist. "We played without Alex Knaff and were able to get some good wins on courts five and six with Chase and Rana. We have a lot of depth up top without Top-3 guys being high ranked players. We got straight set wins from Lucas and Guy to put us in control and then Aziz did a nice job of clinching after dropping the first set."

Florida State Men’s Tennis Takes Down the Gators for the Second Straight Year.
The Seminoles defeated the Gators 4-3 for the second straight year
during College MatchDay.
LAKE NONA, FL – In front of a packed crowd of over 2,000 people, the Florida State men’s tennis team defeated the No. 8 Florida Gators for the second consecutive year during the USTA’s College MatchDay.
This was the first time under head coach Dwayne Hultquist the Noles have defeated the Gators in back-to-back matches, and his 17th win over a Top-15 team.
“This feels great,” said Hultquist. “It was an unbelievably tough match. It was just a battle.”
The men fell behind early in doubles after losing court one 6-2 but rebounded well. Senior Guy Iradukunda and sophomore Alex Knaff tied it up at one in their first doubles match of the spring together. The pair defeated the Gators No. 10 ranked doubles pair 6-4. With the doubles point up for grabs seniors Terrance and Terrell Whitehurst pulled out a huge victory on court three. They were up 5-4 against Florida’s No. 11 ranked doubles pair. The Gators tied it at five. The Noles once against took the lead this time 6-5, but once against Florida tied it up. In the tiebreaker, the Whitehurst twins grabbed an early lead and did not look back as they clinched the Noles eight doubles point of the season.
“It was a battle to win the doubles and I thought that was important for us to get,” said Hultquist. “We were able to beat two of their three teams that are all ranked Top-15 in the country.”
Florida State did not get off to a great start in singles and fell behind to the Gators 3-1 after losing on courts three, five and six. The Seminoles were able to turn the momentum back around to come back and stun Florida. It started on court four as Knaff turned his match around after a 6-1 first set loss. Knaff went on to win the final two sets 6-4, 6-2 to keep the Noles in the match.
“They really took it to us in the first part of the match,” said Hultquist. “They got four first sets and we were just holding on, on courts one and two and were fortunate enough to get the tiebreakers on those. We just battled, and I am really proud of Alex Knaff. He lost the first set 6-1 and has been hurt. He played lights out the last two sets and got us to 3-2.” It came down to courts one and two and Florida State showed their toughness and fight. Iradukunda battles in a 12-point first set tiebreaker and won the second set 6-3 against Florida’s No. 8 Johannes Ingildsen to tie the match at three. Lucas was in a fight of his own on court two. Poullain won the first set in a tiebreaker and while cramping in the second set did the same to earn his first match-clinching victory of the season.
“Guy did a great job of finishing it quick,” said Hultquist. “Lucas has such heart. He is such a winner.”
“It was an unbelievable feeling,” said Poullain. “That was the biggest match of the year and I was able to clinch it. I was so happy. All of the guys played hard and clinch it was such a great feeling and so special.”

No. 16 Men's Tennis Takes Down Miami 4-0 in Lake Nona.
Florida State is 2-0 at the USTA National Campus with wins over No. 8 Florida (4-3) and
Miami (4-0).
LAKE NONA, FL - The No. 16 Florida State men's tennis team (16-1) defeated Miami (6-5) 4-0 at the USTA National Campus to earn the crown as State Camps after defeating Florida a few weeks earlier on the same courts.
"Beating both of our rivals here is always good," said head coach Dwayne Hultquist. "Miami has a bunch of younger guys and they are going to have a great program. Their coach is going to do a good job there."
The Seminoles got off to a fast start in doubles winning on courts two and three 6-2. Court one was leading 4-3 when the doubles point was clinched. On court three seniors Terrance and Terrell Whitehurst were tied 2-2 before they went on a four-game run to clinch the doubles point. Redshirt seniors Jose Gracia and Lucas Poullain led the whole match.
Florida State took their momentum from the doubles point into singles as they ran through the Hurricanes. The Seminoles won five of the six first sets and were led by Gracia who swept his opponent 6-0 in the first. Not only did he sweep him in the first, he did not allow his opponent to win a game the whole match. Poullain and sophomore Alex Knaff were in a race to see who would give the Noles a 3-0 lead. Poullain finished first as he won on court three 6-3, 6-2. Knaff quickly followed as he clinched the match and secured the Garnet and Gold's 4-0 victory with a 6-2, 6-4 win on court five. Florida State was leading on two of the other three courts when the match was clinched.
"I was pleased with Lucas today," said Hultquist. "He lost to that guy in the fall and came back to win 6-3, 6-2. Jose was very sharp today. It is unusual that in a men's match you win 6-0, 6-0, but he did. He was sharp in doubles as well. We had other matches that we would have had the opportunity to close out as well."
"It was a good win and a good start in the ACC. Nothing comes easy in the ACC so I am glad we got off to a good start."

"It was nice to see Aziz get a quick win on court one," said Hultquist. "Sebastian being able to come in and get a good win on court six was nice to see. It shows the depth that we have that he was the ninth different person to clinch a match for us this season."

No. 11 Men's Tennis Improves to 18-1 with Win Over Drake.
The Seminoles will be back on court Sunday to take on Georgia Tech.
TALLAHASSEE, FL - The No. 11 Florida State men's tennis team (18-1) defeated Drake (12-10) 6-1 at the Scott Speicher Tennis Center for the 10th home win of the season.
The Noles got out to a slow start, losing only their third doubles point of the season. Redshirt seniors Lucas Poullain and Jose Gracia were the first Noles to go down as they lost on court one 6-2. The newly put together pair of junior Aziz Dougaz and sophomore Alex Knaff tied doubles up with their first win as a pair on court two, 6-4. It came down to court three as seniors Terrance and Terrell Whitehurst were tied 5-5. The twins could not hold on as Drake captured the doubles point and a 1-0 lead.
"I thought drake played really good doubles today," said head coach Dwayne Hultquist. "They had very good fundamentals. We had a hard time breaking their serves. We only broke them once at one and we didn't break them at all at three. They served and volleyed and pushed towards the next very well. You can tell they are coached well in doing that."
That point turned out to be the Bulldog's only point as Florida State went on to sweep singles, losing only two sets. Freshman Chase Wood made quick work of his opponent on court six, 6-2, 6-2, to tie it up at one. Gracia gave the Noles their first lead of the match with a 6-4, 6-2 win on court four to improve to 6-2 this spring.
Poullain and Knaff were the next two to finish. Lucas took the first set with ease 6-2 but battled back in the second down 6-5 to force a tiebreak. Poullain turned it on in the tiebreaker taking it 7-1 and giving the Noles a 3-1 advantage. Almost simultaneously Knaff was finishing on the court to the left. After losing the first set 6-1 he turned his game around to take the next two sets 6-3 each to clinch his second match of the season.
With the match already clinched, Dougaz and Senior Guy Iradukunda continued to battle on courts one and two. Dougaz had to fight on court one as he won both his sets in tiebreakers. Guy fought to take the first set in a tiebreaker, but could not take the second as he went on to win in three sets.
"A key part of this match was that we won three first sets, and two firsts went to tiebreakers," said Hultquist. "By Aziz and Guy winning the first set tiebreakers, I thought that swung the match in our favor. Drake played very hard. We only gave up two sets, but a lot of the sets were close. We won four tiebreakers and they only won one. Winning those was really the difference in the match."

No. 11 Men's Tennis Take Down Georgia Tech 5-2; Improve to 11-0 at Home.
Freshman Chase Wood earns team leading fourth match clinching win.
TALLAHASSEE, FL - The No. 11 Florida State men's tennis team (19-1) defeated Georgia Tech (5-8) 5-2 at the Scott Speicher Tennis Center for the 11th home win of the season and 10th win in a row.
"We got swarmed by the Yellow Jackets in doubles and got down 1-0, but I was really pleased that we came out early in the first sets and won five of the six of them with several of them being fairly convincing," said head coach Dwayne Hultquist.
The Seminoles lost their second doubles point in a row to start the day. There was a bright spot in the doubles point though. With redshirt seniors Jose Gracia and Lucas Poullain's win on court two, Gracia moved into 10th all-time in doubles wins as an individual at Florida State.
After falling behind 1-0, the Noles took it to the Yellow Jackets in singles, winning five of the six first sets. Senior Guy Iradukunda tied it up for the Garnet and Gold with his 13th win of the season after a 6-1, 6-3 win on court two. Junior Aziz Dougaz gave the Noles their first lead with his 13th win of the season as well. He took down Georgia Tech's only ranked singles player No. 53 Carlos Divar 6-2, 6-1. Gracia then extended the lead to 3-1 with a 6-1, 6-4 win on court four. He was down 4-1 before he won five straight games to take the second set.
The Yellow Jackets shortened the lead as they defeated sophomore Alex Knaff on court five. Florida State was able to clinch the match 4-2 with a 6-3, 6-3 win by freshman Chase Wood. It was his team-leading fourth match clincher of the season. After the match was clinched Poullain finished off Georgia Tech with a three-set win on court three to secure a 5-2 Seminole win.
"There was one stretch in which I thought Georgia Tech was making a run at us when Jose was down 4-1, but he came back to take the second set," said Hultquist. "That was key to get us to three points. It was a tough match today. Georgia Tech is a good team and certainly, any match in the ACC is going to be a challenge. Getting off to a 3-0 start in the ACC is great. We now have a huge week in front of us."

Florida State takes on No. 1 Wake Forest Sunday.
TALLAHASSEE, FL – The No. 9 Florida State men’s tennis team (20-1, 4-0 ACC) made routine work of NC State (11-4, 1-3 ACC) as they defeated them 4-0 at the Scott Speicher Tennis Center. It was the 12th home win of the season and helped the Seminoles reach the 20-win mark for the fifth time under head coach Dwayne Hultquist.
“It was a good match for us,” said Hultquist. “It was against a top-25 team. They have really done a good job of turning their program around this year. I liked the fact that we were in on every match on every court. We are getting good efforts from everyone all the way through the lineup.”
The day got started as the Noles captured the doubles point for the 16th time this season. Redshirt senior Jose Gracia and sophomore Alex Knaff gave the Garnet and Gold a 1-0 lead in doubles with a quick 6-2 win on court two. The Wolfpack tied it up winning on court three but the Seminole duo of senior Guy Iradukunda and junior Aziz did what they needed to and defeated NC State’s No. 23 ranked doubles pair of Michael Ogden and Alexis Galarneau 6-4 on court one.
Heading into singles play up 1-0, the Seminoles never looked back. Redshirt senior Lucas Poullain earned his 15th win of the season with a 6-1, 6-3 win on court three. He was followed by Knaff on court five who won 6-2, 6-2 for his sixth win of the spring. Dougaz then clinched his third match of the season with a big win over No. 25 Alexis Galarneau on court one 7-5, 6-2. Gracia was in match point as the match was clinched and was not able to finish.
The Seminole will be back on the court Sunday as they host Wake Forest on the ACC Network.
“It is not often that you get the number one team in the country,” said Hultquist. “A couple of years ago we played No. 1 North Carolina here and beat them. It is exciting. We have played as the favorite almost the entire year. We are not going to be favored but this is a great opportunity for us on Sunday.”

Noles Take Down No. 1 Wake Forest
Florida State earns their second win over a No. 1 ranked team in three years
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - The No. 9 Florida State men's tennis team (21-1, 5-0 ACC) earned their second ever win over a No. 1 ranked team in three years with a huge 4-3 win over Wake Forest (14-1, 3-1 ACC). This win makes it the fourth time the Seminoles have earned 21 wins in a season under head coach Dwayne Hultquist.
"The biggest thing is that we never gave up," said Hultquist. "We were very competitive the whole way through the match. We could have won the doubles but lost in a tiebreaker. Aziz could have won the first set but didn't. We could have won the first set at Chase's court but didn't. It was a match where we never gave up. For Guy and Chase to be down a set and a break and come back and win showed a lot of heart and that we will never give up."
The Seminoles lost the doubles point for just the sixth time this season in a close one. The Demon Deacons took court three 6-3 but the Garnet and Gold quickly bounced back to take court two with a 7-5 win by redshirt senior Jose Gracia and sophomore Alex Knaff. Wake Forest clinched the double point in a tiebreaker on court one.
In singles, Wake Forest took a 2-0 lead with a 7-5, 6-1 win on court two. The Seminoles quickly bounced back with a 7-5, 6-3 win on court five by Knaff. Wake Forest extended their lead to 3-1 with a win on court four. Gracia took the first set 6-3 but could not hold on as the Demon Deacons took the next two sets 6-1, 6-2.
Down 3-1, Florida State flipped a switch and went on a roll. Courts one and six had both lost the first set and had taken the second, while on court three redshirt senior Lucas Poullain pulled off a 6-4 first set win but could not pull it off in the second set.
Down 5-3 in the second set on court one, senior Guy Iradukunda made the comeback of the season to force a tiebreak against No. 29 Bona Gojo. Iradukunda went on to win the tiebreaker 7-3 and took that momentum into the third set to take the match and narrow the Wake Forest lead to one.
"I was down but I knew the team was fighting," said Iradukunda. "I could hear my teammates screaming that they won sets and that helped me because I knew I needed to keep fighting for them because I knew we still had a chance to win. The crowd behind me helped me come back and play well. The guy was also getting tired which helped me a lot."
Down 3-2, both Poullain and freshman Chase Wood were battling on their respective courts. After losing the second set Poullain turned his match around and got off to a quick 4-1 lead in the third, before finishing off No. 30 Skander Mansouri 6-3 in the third to tie the match at three.
"I knew Chase was close to winning," said Poullain. "I was just focusing on my court. It was tough at the end because I was tired and cramping. I saw him cramping too so I just told myself to stay calm and try to make him miss and fight to the end. It worked pretty well."
Wood showed veteran poise as a freshman with the match against the No. 1 team in the country on the line. He was up 3-1 in the first set before falling in a tiebreak but he did not let that phase him. In set two, he went down 2-0 early but fought his way back to tie it at three before taking a 4-3 lead. Wood never lost the lead after that as he won the second set 6-4, forcing a deciding third set. Wood went up 4-1 over Wake's Julian Zlobinzky. Zlobinzky brought it within one, 5-4 before he went down cramping. Wood won the first point and was awarded another as his opponent had to take injury time. With the match on the line, Wood clinched his team-leading fifth match of the season and helped take down No. 1 Wake Forest.
"It was an unbelievable team win," said Wood. "We were down 3-1 and we all stuck together and just fought. It was a great match and it is always great to take out the No. 1 team in the country. We kept fighting and it paid off."
"My match was a battle. The first set was really tight and I thought I had a chance with a set point in the first. In the second I was down a break but just kept fight and was able to get the second set. Towards the end, I got a little fortunate that he started cramping."

This win put us in position to host for the first time in a few years and we are excited about that."

In the first set, he was down 3-4 but turned it around to win the final three games and the set 6-4. In the second he got out to an early 3-0 lead before finishing off his opponent 6-3.
"I was really pleased with Chase getting the clinching point, said Hultquist."
"We are going to look forward to the ACC tournament and have an opportunity to compete and get some more good wins."

Third Seeded Seminoles Advance to ACC Semifinals.
CARY, NC - The third-seeded Florida State men's tennis team (27-3) earned their second win over Duke (16-13) in five days with a 4-1 win.
"I thought it was really great to come from behind to win after losing the doubles point," said head coach Dwayne Hultquist. "Duke played great in the doubles and really stepped it up to get the point. I think one of the keys to the match was how several of the guys got to some big early leads. Lucas was on fire. He went three sets with the same guy the other day and was not able to finish. He was able to win 6-0, 6-0 and Alex was almost able to do the same. They quickly turned the match from being behind to us being ahead. Aziz beat a top-20 guy two times in a row which is really tough to do. He really dominated the second set."
After taking the doubles point from the Blue Devils a week ago the Seminoles could not hold on today. They got out to a quick 3-1 lead on court three and turned that into their first doubles win as redshirt senior Jose Gracia and senior Terrell Whitehurst won 6-2. On court one senior Guy Iradukunda and sophomore Alex Knaff fell behind 4-1. The pair fought back to narrow it to 5-4 but it was not enough as they lost 6-4. Redshirt senior Lucas Poullain and junior Aziz Dougaz were in a tough battle as they were going back and forth tied 5-5 Duke went on to win the final two games and clinch the doubles point with a 7-5 win on court two.
Poullain tied things up for Florida State on court three. He did not surrender a singles game as he dominated Duke's 116th ranked Nick Stachowiak, 6-0, 6-0.
"It feels great to win like that," said Poullain. "I just wanted to beat that guy once since I played him twice and lost once and could not finish last weekend in a third set. I just wanted to win, and I played really well. Tomorrow is a great opportunity for revenge and I think we have a shot."
Knaff tried to match his teammate as he went on to take his set 6-0 on court five. In the second set, he got out to a 5-0 lead but could not finish it as he surrendered a game. Knaff finished off Duke's Spencer Furman 6-1 in the second set to give the Noles their first lead of the match.
"I played the same guy I did last week and last week was a tough match," said Knaff. "I knew how to play him and played my game and it worked really well. I am really happy about the win and the team's win. We were really dominating and tomorrow we have a chance to win and we will give our best and hope we can win and keep advancing."
Dougaz gave the Noles a 3-1 lead with another huge win on court one. For the second time in a week, he took down No. 17 Nicolas Alvarez. Dougaz went back and forth in the first set. Down 5-6 he forced a tiebreaker and went on to win it. In the second set, Dougaz ran right through Alvarez on his way to a 6-1 win.
"I think it is a good win for me and a good win for the team," said Dougaz. "We know our goal for this tournament and we know we can beat everyone. This win is already in the past and we are thinking about tomorrow."
Gracia clinched his second match of the season with a big win on court four. Gracia was down 4-5 in the first and was able to tie it up at five. The set then went into a tiebreaker which saw Jose come out on top. In the second set, Gracia jumped out to an early 2-1 lead. He was up 5-2 before Duke came back to tie it up at five all. Gracia went on to win the next two games and clinch the match.
"It is a good win," said Gracia. "Even though we lost the doubles point we got two really quick wins and got a good one on court one from Aziz. I was up a break and the second and he came back and battled but I was able to come away with the win. It is always a good opportunity to play UNC again, a top-5 program, and we are ready to battle tomorrow."
"We are doing the North Carolina, Duke combination two weeks in a row and we have a great opportunity tomorrow and we need to go for it," said Hultquist. "We have a good opportunity to reverse last Friday night."

Third Seeded Seminoles Fall in Semifinal 4-0 to UNC.
CARY, NC - The third-seeded Florida State men's tennis team (27-4) got eliminated from the semifinals of the ACC Tournament after a 4-0 loss to North Carolina (22-4).
"North Carolina was the better team today," said Hultquist. "I thought they played really good doubles. They handled us pretty solidly. Clearly, they get off to a pretty good start. There are no easy points in their lineup just like there are no easy ones in ours. We had some shots where we were up. Alex got off to a good start and Guy and Jose got off to an early break. We had an opportunity and we ended up losing those sets and that was the difference."
For the second time this tournament the Noles fell behind 1-0 after losing the doubles point. Carolina jumped ahead 2-0 early on all three courts. On court three Florida State came back to take the lead 3-2 but that was not enough as the Tar Heels won on courts one and two.
Singles was a battle today. Florida State came out winning two of six first sets including a 6-4 win by junior Aziz Dougaz over UNC's third ranked William Blumberg.
Freshman Chase Wood was the first Seminole to go down as he lost 6-2, 6-1 on court one. The Tar Heels extended their lead to 3-0 after taking court four from redshirt senior Jose Gracia, 7-5, 6-2.
Down 3-0, the Noles had a glimmer of hope to come back. Dougaz was in a third set up 2-0 and senior Guy Iradukunda forced a third set and was tied 2-2. On court five sophomore Alex Knaff was leading his third set 3-2, while redshirt senior Lucas Poullain was in a tiebreaker trying to force a third set.
Knaff extended his lead to 5-2 while Iradukunda was tied 3-3 in his third set and Poullain was still fighting in a tiebreaker.
It was not enough as Dougaz could not maintain against the third best player in the country. Down 2-0 Carolina's Blumberg went on to win six straight games and clinched it 4-0 for the Tar Heels.

Men's Tennis Falls in the Round of 32 to Alabama.
Dougaz, Iradukunda and Poullain will all play in the NCAA Singles Championship.
TALLAHASSEE, FL - The Florida State men's tennis team's (28-5) record breaking season came to an end Saturday night as they lost to Alabama (20-12) in the second round of the 2018 NCAA Team Championships.
"I thought it was a great college tennis match," said head coach Dwayne Hultquist. "I thought Alabama did a great job of competing. We had a lot of things go against us. I think we grabbed the momentum when it began to rain. We were about to finish off two matches and turn a couple others our way. I do think the rain delay helped them. It got the heat out of the air and turned it into a cool night."
For the 11th time this season, the Noles started out in a hole as they lost the doubles point.-fAlabama's 26th ranked pair of Edison Ortiz and Mazen Osam took court three from redshirt senior Jose Gracia and senior Terrance Whitehurst 6-3. Courts one and two were battling, but the Crimson Tide took court two 6-4 over senior Guy Iradukunda and sophomore Alex Knaff. Court one was tied 5-5 and was not able to finish as the doubles point was clinched.
Singles play began as both teams split first sets. The top of the Seminoles lineup led the Noles with the three singles wins, while the bottom three of the lineup fell behind early.
In the second set, Florida State began to turn things around as they were leading or tied on all six courts, then the rain began causing a delay that lasted a little over an hour.
Coming out of the break Alabama began to turn the tide.
The Crimson Tide extended their lead to 2-0 with 6-3, 7-5 straight set win on court four. Florida State narrowed the Alabama lead to 2-1 within seconds as Iradukunda clinched his match 6-0, 7-6.
The Seminoles then tied up the match with a 6-3, 6-4 win on court three by redshirt senior Lucas Poullain. It was his 24th win of the spring and 29th of the season.
With the match tied up, Alabama took back the lead with a 6-2, 6-4 win on court five, bringing the match down to courts one and six.
On court six, sophomore Rana-Roop Singh Bhullar fell quickly in the first set as he lost 6-0. He quickly flipped the script taking set two 6-1. In the third set he went down 3-0 but fought back to tie it up three. He could not hold on as he fell 6-3.
Junior Aziz Dougaz was not able to finish his match as he was in a third set against the No. 10 player in the nation.
"Today is going to sting for a while," said Hultquist. "We had been 16-1 on our home courts. We just didn't get it done on our home courts and that is disappointing. It has been a great year as we beat Wake Forest when they were No. 1 and beating Florida in front of the largest crowd in college tennis."
Dougaz, Iradukunda and Poullain will continue their season as they compete in the NCAA Individual Championship starting on May 24th.
