Basically everyone has won more matches than they lost. In particular with Jean Yves (Aubone) and Ytai (Abougzir) being in the semis they have come two different ways. Ytai has won every match difficult and Jean Yves has won solid every match. They have come though different ways but I'm pleased Ytai has come from behind and I think that is a real good sign for him. Jean Yves has been very focused and played very well and hopefully we will have one or both of those guys in the finals tomorrow."

Seminoles Remain Undefeated After Weekend Spring Invitational.
Florida State men's tennis finish the weekend with three victories and remain undefeated at 5-0.
TALLAHASSEE, FL - Florida State men's tennis continued to play strong Sunday morning with a victory over the Georgia State Panthers, improving the overall season record to 4-0. Doubles play took place on Saturday afternoon where the Seminoles won two straight doubles matches over the Panthers to clinch a first team point.
Overnight showers forced the singles competition to begin late at 11:00 a.m in order to dry the Scott Speicher Tennis Center courts. Senior Jonathas Sucupira (Sao Paulo, Brazil) was first to finish in an energetic defeat over GSU's Andres Arango 6-3, 6-4 while the only Georgia State victory occurred on center court as senior Ytai Abougzir fell to the Panther's Martin Stiegwardt 4-6, 6-7 (6). Freshman Bradley Mixson on court six had a quick victory over Georgia State's Augusta Alvarado 6-3, 6-1 while at the same time, court number five sealed the final decision as sophomore Chris Cloer came back in the third set to defeat the Panther's Anze Cevka 4-6, 6-0, 6-3. Unfinished matches included sophomore Maciek Sykut (Marathon, Fla.) in the number three position against Georgia State's Mattias Skold 4-6, 6-2, 3-0 and on court two freshman Jean-Yves Aubone (Miami, Fla.) split sets with the Panther's Nejc Podkrajsek 3-6, 7-5, 5-2.
"I think the team started slow this morning," head coach Dwayne Hultquist said. "I think part of it was the weather delay and part of it was playing doubles yesterday. Those were all things we had to adjust to so we got down but I like how we responded."
Later on Sunday, the Seminoles took on their final opponent of the weekend against Furman University under the leadership of former Seminole head coach Paul Scarpa. In doubles competition, the Seminoles took the first match on center court as rookie-veteran team Ytai Abougzir and Jean-Yves Aubone overcame Furman's Ryan Friend and Andy Subczyk 8-4. In court two, sophomore team Andrew Bailey and Maciek Sykut were quickly defeated by the Paladin's Bo Ladyman and Brian Crook 8-2 to tie the doubles score leaving court number three with the deciding match. Senior Jonathas Sucupira and freshman Bradley Mixson stepped up to the pressure to overcome Furman's Andy Juc and Scott Kahler 8-5. This sealed the deal for the Seminoles going in to singles play with a 1-0 lead.
"I thought Brad and Jonathas had really good chemistry playing together," coach Hultquist said. "They really never played together until Sam got hurt and they seem to have confidence in each other. I feel pretty good how they came around even though they could have closed it out earlier but I think they did a pretty good job."
First to complete singles competition came from court number two as Abougzir defeated Furman's Andy Sobczyk 6-1, 6-2 while Mixson defeated the Paladin's Mike Kociecki 6-1, 6-4 in the number six position. Victory came for the Seminoles on court three as Sucupira defeated Furman's Daniel Knause 6-1, 6-1 while one court over, Sykut defeated the Paladin's Jordan Walters 7-5, 6-1 in position four. Matches to go unfinished occurred on court number one with Aubone taking on Furman's Andy Juc 6-4, 2-1 and on court six Chris Cloer ended the match with the Paladin's Chris Gilli at 6-4, 2-2.
"My goal was to be 5-0 at this stage and I think our next stage is going to be a very difficult one," coach Hultquist said. "We play Notre Dame who's ranked 13 in the nation and Ohio State who's No. 3 and then follow up with Florida who's 17 and then Miami who's 11. That's a difficult stretch for us and we'll need to play real well."
Next week Florida State men's tennis hits the road taking on No. 13 Notre Dame on February 2 and No. 3 ranked Ohio State February 4.

No. 12 Florida State Men's Tennis Defeat No. 8 Florida For The First Time In 10 Years.
Florida State men's tennis defeated the Florida Gators on Saturday with over 500 fans in attendance.
TALLAHASSEE, FL - It was an exciting day at the Scott Speicher Tennis Center as No. 12 Florida State men's tennis defeated No. 8 Florida 4-3 for the first time in 10 years. The Seminoles were joined by over 500 of their closest fans as they improved the overall season record to 6-2 and caused Florida their second loss of the dual match season. The last time Florida State men's tennis defeated Florida was in 1997 under the direction of head coach David Barron.
Kicking off doubles play to a strong start came from position two as junior Sam Chang (Young-Ming, Taiwan) and sophomore Maciek Sykut (Marathon, Fla.) defeated Nestor Briceno and Jordan Dolberg of Florida 8-5. Clinching the doubles point for the Seminoles took place on court number three as freshmen dream team Jean-Yves Aubone (Miami, Fla.) and Bradley Mixson (Miami, Fla.) overcame the Gator's Daniel Cash and Geoffrey Barton 8-6. Senior duo Ytai Abougzir (Boca Raton, Fla.) and Jonathas Sucupira (Sao Paulo, Brazil) ended the doubles match on center court unfinished in a tiebreaker against UF's Jesse Levine and Greg Ouellette 8-8.
"That was huge when we won the doubles," head coach Dwayne Hultquist said. "Their (Florida) number one doubles team beat the NCAA champs on Tuesday so it was great we actually hung in there and had a chance to win. I think it's sometimes important when you have three opportunities to win the doubles point instead of just the two. I felt like we were better at position two doubles and as it turns out, that's where we won. For our guys that won doubles, it came down to the wire. I felt confident that they had to just focus on their matches."
In singles competition, the Gators stormed back in position one as UF's Levine defeated Abougzir 1-6, 1-6 while Florida State stayed strong on court four as #76 Maciek Sykut dominated Florida's Dolberg 6-1, 6-2. Debuting his first home match of the season, Florida State's Sam Chang fell on court three to #60 Nestor Briceno 1-6, 0-6 leaving the overall match score tied at 2-2. High emotions continued in position six as sophomore Chris Cloer (Brevard, NC) overpowered UF's Barton 6-4, 6-1 giving the Seminoles a 3-2 lead. The deciding factor of the match came from court as Sucupira stormed back for a third set victory over the Gators Daniel Cash 3-6, 6-3, 6-3 to give Florida State the match victory.
"I was 5-3 in the last set and really focused on the match when I looked up and saw everyone in the crowd and realized I had to win this match," Sucupira said. "We definitely came in to this match confident because we knew Florida was good but that we were really good in the last three. We knew we had to win the doubles point and the last three (positions) and we did."
Court number two's match ended quickly after the victory as Florida's #16 Ouellette defeated Aubone 4-6, 6-2, 0-6 ending the overall match with Florida State 4, Florida 3.
"With Florida as our rival, traditionally they've been the better team and we've always been right there but not quite able to get over the hump," coach Hultquist said. "I told the team that one of the differences is I really believe that this year we're better. Before when we played them closely ranked, we weren't quite as good. I feel like we were better down low than they were and kind of thought we would win 4, 5 and 6."
With over 500 fans in attendance at today's match, Coach Hultquist and his team do not take for granted the importance of crowd support. With today's victory over Florida, the Seminoles have improved to a ten home match winning streak.
"To have that kind of crowd support is huge. Looking back, we've won nine in a row at home (now ten) and our home court advantage is going to continue to grow. I think the crowd is a huge part of the win and I think it definitely helped us get the doubles point."
On Saturday, February 24 at 1:00 p.m Florida State men's tennis takes on another in-state rival against the #26 Miami Hurricanes.

Seminoles Earn First ACC Victory Over Hurricanes 5-2.
Florida State men's tennis defeat Florida and Miami in the same season for the first time in 22 years.
TALLAHASSEE, FL - No. 10 Florida State men's tennis continued their home winning streak on Saturday after defeating No. 26 Miami 5-2 at the Scott Speicher Tennis Center. The last time Florida State defeated Florida and Miami in the same season came in 1985 with Hall of Fame inductee and later professional player Paul Haarhuis.
"When Paul Haarhuis played 22 years ago they beat both teams," head coach Dwayne Hultquist said. "I think what could happen is that we could likely play Miami again at the conference tournament or the NCAA tournament. We could also play Florida again, so I guess you have to wait til' the year is over to claim the state title."
The victory improves Florida State's overall season record to 7-2 and earns the first ACC victory of the season.
In doubles competition, freshmen dream team, Jean-Yves Aubone (Miami, Fla.) and Bradley Mixson (Miami, Fla.) dominated in the number three position over Miami's Barnabas Carrega and Hector Nieto 8-2. Clinching the doubles points for the Seminoles came in position two as sophomore Maciek Sykut (Marathon, Fla.) and junior Sam Chang (Young-Ming, Taiwan) defeated the Hurricane's #52 Vivek Subramanian and Daniel Vallverdu 8-5 while on center court, Seminole seniors Ytai Abougzir (Boca Raton, Fla.) and Jonathas Sucupira (Sao Paulo, Brazil) fell to #37 Luigi D'agord and Josh Cohen of Miami 8-6.
"I think it's especially good considering last year we went down there and got beat really bad," coach Hultquist said. "They went on to share the ACC title, so we knew that they were a really good team and I felt the doubles were key again this week and the match was really tight. Maciek and Sam were down a break and came back. I think that was the momentum we need going in to singles. I felt immediately after that we jumped out and won six first sets. So I felt the key to the match was Maciek and Sam coming from behind and winning doubles."
Singles play remained in favor of the Florida State as all first sets were captured by six Seminoles. Starting on court six as sophomore Chris Cloer (Brevard, NC) defeated Miami's JC Whitner 6-2, 6-2 while in position three Chang captured his first ranked win of the season over UM's #92 Josh Cohen 6-4, 6-4. Clinching the overall victory again for the second week in a row was Sucupira on court 5 as he defeated Miami's Hector Nieto 6-2, 6-4 as the Seminoles other captain fell in a tight third set tiebreak to UM's #52 Luigi D'Agord 6-1, 1-6, 6-7 (6). Rounding up the singles, #77 Aubone fought back to win another ranked victory on court two defeating #44 Daniel Vallverdu of Miami 6-4, 1-6, 6-4. The final bout to end occurred in position four as Sykut dropped the third set to UM's Vivek Subramanian 6-3, 6-7(2), 3-6.
The Seminoles' next four dual matches take place on the road beginning with Clemson on March 2 and later that weekend against Georgia Tech on March 4. Florida State next travels to the west coast to take on Stanford on March 7 and Pepperdine on March 9.
"Clemson is going to be a tough challenge and Georgia Tech as well are both really dangerous," coach Hultquist said. "The thing is in the ACC that all teams are very even and I think winning on the road is more difficult. We've done a very good job at winning all our matches at home but I think we're in for two battles this week."

No. 31 Clemson Upset No. 10 Seminoles 4-3.
Florida State men's tennis fell short on Friday to ACC opponent Clemson and slip to 7-3 for the season.
CLEMSON, SC - Friday evening found the No. 10 Seminoles their first ACC loss of the season as they fell to No. 31 Clemson in a 4-3 decision. The Seminoles slip to a 7-3 overall season record and 1-1 in the ACC.
Florida State next travels south to Atlanta to take on No. 52 Georgia Tech on Sunday at 1:00 p.m. ET. The two teams last met in Tallahassee on March 12, 2006 where Florida State defeated the Yellow Jackets in a 7-0 decision.
"It's been kind of a rough week for us practice wise," Hultquist said. "We only practice two days and gave the guys off on Wednesday and we didn't get to practice yesterday because of the rain. We didn't get up there til ten o'clock so we'll probably practice harder than we would normally the day before a match because I think we have some things we have to work on and then we'll give it a go Sunday."

Seminoles Fall To Yellow Jackets 4-3.
No. 10 Florida State had their second loss of the weekend as they fell to No. 52 Georgia Tech.
ATLANTA, GA - After a very competitive six hour match, No. 10 Florida State men's tennis fell to No. 52 Georgia Tech 4-3 at the Bill Moore Tennis Center in Atlanta, Georgia. This is Florida State's second ACC loss of the weekend after falling to Clemson 4-3 on Friday evening. The Seminoles season record slips to 7-4 and 1-2 in the ACC.
Georgia Tech came out strong in doubles competition defeating Florida State in all three doubles matches to clinch the first point of the day. First match to finish came from court number two as GT's Scott Blackmon and Jose Mugurza defeated freshman duo Jean-Yves Aubone (Miami, Fla.) and Bradley Mixson (Miami, Fla.) 8-5. Doubles victory was clinched in position one as seniors Ytai Abougzir (Boca Raton, Fla.) and Jonathas Sucupira (Sao Paulo, Brazil) fell to GT's Eric Molnar and Luke Rassow-Kantor 8-5 while Georgia Tech won a third doubles match in court three with Jordan DeLass and George Gvelesiani defeating Florida State's sophomore team Andrew Bailey (Tallahassee, Fla.) and Maciek Sykut (Marathon, Fla.) 8-6.
"I think they played very good doubles," head coach Dwayne Hultquist said. "They played very well in doubles and played better than we did. I think we hurt a little bit with Sam being out. His arm was hurting from the match on Friday. It may be the new combination of teams playing higher than normal, but I would have to give them a lot of credit for how they played."
Singles competition was tight with every court splitting to a third set, beginning with #77 Aubone as he split sets with Georgia Tech's Jordan DeLass with a 6-2, 4-6, 6-2 decision as the Yellow Jacket's Jose Muguruza defeated Abougzir on center court 4-6, 7-5, 6-3. Next match to finish took place on court three with GT's Eric Monlar fighting back to defeat Chang 7-5, 6-4, 7-5 while the Jacket's captured the match victory in position five with Luke Rassow-Kantor defeating Florida State's Jonathas Sucupira 6-2, 3-6, 7-6.
"I felt like there was a fling there when Jean-Yves (Aubone) won to make it one all and then both matches were very tight and they that pivotal point where they won at number one and then follow up with winning at number three," Hultquist said. "We had a chance to win both those matches."
On court six sophomore Chris Cloer (Brevard, NC) fought back to defeat GT's Austin Roebuck 5-7, 6-4, 6-1 while Sykut captured a third and final victory for the Seminoles over the Yellow Jacket's Scott Blackmon 5-7, 7-6, 6-2.
"I thought Maciek played well," Hultquist said. "He had a break point at five all and was trying to serve for the match. I feel like we could have won that one (set) and we had other chances where we should have won. I think it was a good, hard fought match and both teams competed very well."
Florida State men's tennis (7-4, 1-2 ACC) next travel to Stanford, California this Wednesday, March 7 to take on the No. 27 Cardinals at the Taube Tennis Center. The Seminoles will finish their spring break road trip on Friday in Malibu, California as they take on the defending 2006 NCAA Division I national champions, No. 14 Pepperdine.
"We'll take tomorrow off and Tuesday we'll fly out to California and we'll play Wednesday against Stanford and Friday against Pepperdine," Hultquist said. "We still have a big week ahead of us, so we'll have to regroup and get ready for that."

No. 31 Florida State Shuts Out No. 36 Stanford 7-0.
The men's team increased their record to 8-4 while Stanford fell to 3-7.
STANFORD, CA - The No. 31 Florida State men's tennis team traveled to the west coast and defeated No. 36 Stanford 7-0. The Seminoles won two of the three doubles matches to win the doubles point and won all of singles matches to clinch the win at the Taube Tennis Center. The Seminoles are now 8-4 and 1-1 in the ACC.
In doubles play, freshman duo Jean-Yves Aubone (Miami, Florida) and Bradley Mixson (Miami, Florida) defeated Eric McKean and Jeff Zeller 8-5. Senior Jonathas Sucupira (Sao Paulo, Brazil) and junior Sam Chang (Young-Ming, Taiwan) defeated Paul Morrisey and Richard Wire in a close match 9-7 to clinch the doubles point. Sucupira injured himself when the score was 6-7, but pulled himself though the rest of the match to win 9-7. Using the momentum from the doubles match, the team headed to singles play.
"I thought one of the key things for the match was the doubles," stated head coach Dwayne Hultquist. "I thought that really gave us a lot of momentum going into singles. We won the five sets pretty quickly. I really give Jonathas (Sucupira) a lot of credit playing hurt and winning that match. He kind of gutted it out with a quad strain and he just hung in there and Sam played really well."
The Seminoles used that momentum to win all six matches and to finish the sweep over Stanford. Senior Ytai Abougzir (Boca Raton, Florida) upset No. 66 Wire 4-6, 6-1, 7-5 in the one position while Aubone defeated Blake Muller 6-1, 7-6. Sophomore Maciek Sykut (Marathon, Florida), while playing in the three spot, won 6-3, 4-6, 10-3 against Eric McKean.
Winning 6-1, 6-4 was Chang against Kevin Kaiser in the four position. Sophomore Chris Cloer (Brevard, North Carolina), filling in for the injured Sucupira, continued the winning with a 6-3, 6-2 victory over Morrissey in the five position. Mixson won 6-1, 6-4 in the six position against Zeller.
"It was a tough weekend losing those two matches (against Georgia Tech and Clemson), we lost them both 4-3," continued Hultquist. "I think one of the things the guys did was really working hard out here yesterday and having a good practice. I thought we had a really positive attitude going into this match. Stanford's program over the last 30 years is the best program in the nation. They have produced a lot of great players. I feel very honored we beat them today and to beat them is a great statement for our program."
The Seminoles play Pepperdine on Friday, March 9 at 1:30 PT.

Florida State Drops 4-3 Decision To Pepperdine.
No. 31 Florida State fell short on Friday to No. 24 Pepperdine 4-3.
MALIBU, CA - The No. 31 Seminoles ended their spring break trip with a loss Friday afternoon to defending national champions No. 24 Pepperdine at the Ralph-Straus Tennis Center in Malibu, California. Pepperdine improve their record to 9-6 while Florida State slips to 8-5 for the season and 1-2 in the ACC.
Florida State fell short of a doubles point as Beidas and Lemke of Pepperdine overcame junior Sam Chang (Young-Ming, Taiwan) and sophomore Chris Cloer (Brevard, NC) on court three 8-2 . Earning the only doubles victory were senior Ytai Abougzir (Boca Raton, Fla.) and sophomore Maciek Sykut (Marathon, Fla.) on court one defeated the Waves' Begemann and Kamel 8-6 while Pepperdine clinched the doubles victory in position two with freshmen duo Bradley Mixson (Miami, Fla.) and Jean-Yves Aubone (Miami, Fla.) fell in a tight match to No. 47 Johnson and Altmann (Pep) 9-8 (6).
"I think we kind of have to improve our doubles up," head coach Dwayne Hultquist said. "I was real pleased with Maciek (Sykut) and Ytai (Abougzir) winning at number one doubles and they beat a really good team at Pepperdine. So you know I want to get to the point where we're winning 70 percent of doubles matches. You know we were hurting a little bit today because Jonathas (Sucupira) did not play because of the injured quad but Brad played very well he went in there and you know in many ways you could kind of consider us really having seven starters."
Singles competition continued in Pepperdine's favor as position three's Lemke defeated Sykut 6-3, 6-3 while Mixson came back to win a third set victory over the Waves' Kamel 7-6, 1-6, 6-2. On court five Cloer fell short to Pepperdine's Altman 2-6, 7-5, 6-4 as Aubone captured a win defeating Beidas (Pep) 6-4, 4-6, 6-3. Clinching the match victory for Pepperdine was Johnson in position four as he downed Chang 7-6, 3-6, 6-3 as court one finished Abougzir winning a ranked win over No. 24 Begemann (Pep) 7-5, 4-6, 6-2.
"I thought all of our guys played pretty hard. I thought it was a very evenly played match," coach Hultquist said. "Ytai won in the third which is a good win for him over the number twenty-four guy in the country. I thought the California trip was really good for Ytai. He won over two ranked players and he also won his doubles today so I think that overall this trip has been good for him with some good wins."
Out of the past four matches, Friday's match is the third close loss the Seminoles have encountered.
"I thought it was very similar to Georgia Tech, you know very close and could have gone either way," coach Hultquist continued. "I think there are some things we have to do a little bit better and that's kind of what we'll work on when we get back."

Florida State Fries Rice 5-2.
No. 31 Florida State men's tennis fought back on Friday to defeat No. 17 Rice 5-2.
TALLAHASSEE, FL - After a doubles point loss and a brief rain delay, Florida State men's tennis fought back in singles to defeat the No. 17 Rice Owls 5-2 on Friday improving the team's overall season record to 9-5. This is the Seminoles eleventh straight win at the Scott Speicher Tennis Center after charging back to win five out of six singles matches.
Doubles competition began strong for the Seminoles on court two as senior Jonathas Sucupira (Sao Paulo, Brazil) and junior Sam Chang (Young-Ming, Taiwan) overcame the Owl's Jason Mok and Christoph Muller 8-3. Momentum changed on court number three as Florida State's freshmen duo Jean-Yves Aubone (Miami, Fla.) and Bradley Mixson (Miami, Fla.) fell to Rice's Ben Harknett and Filip Paroci 8-5 while doubles victory was clinched for the Owl's on center court as Toby Scheil and Ralph Knupfer of Rice defeated senior Ytai Abougzir (Boca Raton, Fla.) and Maciek Sykut (Marathon, Fla.) 8-3.
"I was disappointed actually and kind of got on the team a little bit after the doubles because I didn't feel like we played, well we played really good doubles yesterday in practice and we had worked hard on some things and we were actually in pretty good position," head coach Dwayne Hultquist said. "Jon and Sam have played together for a long time and they've actually been winning. This is the first time Brad and Jean-Yves have lost at three. They've lost a couple at two but I think we can get better and I think we can keep working on it."
Momentum changed going in to singles competition as sophomore Chris Cloer (Brevard, NC) had a dominating win on court six over Rice's Toby Scheil 6-2, 6-1 while Sykut followed shortly after with a victory in position three over Filip Paroci 6-0, 6-2. Next to finish was court five as Sucupira fought to win a tight ranked match over #97 Jason Mok 6-4, 7-5 while Florida State's Sam Chang fell in position number four to Rice's Christopher Muller 5-7, 4-6. Capturing the match victory for the Seminoles came from #58 Aubone in spot two where he defeated the Owls' #116 Ralph Knupfer 2-6, 6-3, 6-4. Ended the match was Abougzir on center court winning his third ranked win in a row over Rice's Ben Harknett 6-1, 4-6, 6-4.
"This is kind of what I'd expect of them. We've lost a couple matches 4-3 then we lost doubles but I kind of expect to win at least four. I think we have to keep plugging away and I think as the year goes on we'll play better," coach Hultquist said. "I think we should be better than we are in doubles right now but I think one thing that was really positive today was we won five singles after the doubles and we hadn't done that yet."
Florida State men's tennis (9-5, 1-2 ACC) remain in Tallahassee next week as they take on two ACC challengers at the Scott Speicher Tennis Center. First Wednesday, March 21 at 5:00 p.m. against Maryland (9-2, 1-1 ACC) and later on Friday, March 23 at 5:00 p.m. the Seminoles take on Boston College (3-6, 0-1 ACC).

Florida State Men's Tennis Tops Maryland 6-1.
Florida State men's tennis defeated ACC rival Maryland 6-1 on Wednesday evening.
TALLAHASSEE, FL - No. 29 Florida State men's tennis captured their second ACC win of the season on Wednesday evening after defeating No. 45 Maryland 6-1 at the Scott Speicher Tennis Center. Florida State improves their overall season record to 10-5 and 2-2 in the ACC while Maryland slips to 10-3 and 2-2 in the ACC.
Florida State dominated in doubles competition as they defeated the Terrapins in all three match-ups to clinch the first point of the day. Florida State's senior Jonathas Sucupira (Sao Paulo, Brazil) and junior Sam Chang (Young-Ming, Taiwan) downed Maryland's Andrew Orban and Trey Taylor in position two 8-5 while senior Ytai Abougzir (Boca Raton, Fla.) and sophomore Maciek Sykut (Marathon, Fla.) clinched the Seminole doubles point on center court by defeating David Kwon and Boris Fetbroyt of Maryland 8-4. Last match to finish took place in position number three with freshmen team Jean-Yves Aubone (Miami, Fla.) and Bradley Mixson (Miami, Fla.) as they overcame the Terps' Nicolas Frayssinoux and Nickolai Nielson 8-6.
"We lost a couple (doubles points) in a row and I thought that we played better today in doubles," head coach Dwayne Hultquist said. "They're 10-2 in the doubles points so we kinda knew that would be an important one to win. I thought a couple of our match-ups were tough and those matches ended up being close matches, but I thought are guys did a good job of being aggressive today."
Singles play remained in Florida State's favor as #119 Aubone dominated position two over Maryland's Kwon 6-1, 6-0 while fellow freshman Mixson defeated Maryland's Louis Lavallee on court six 6-3, 6-0. Finishing immediately after to clinch the Seminoles victory was Chang on court four over the Terps' Nielsen 6-2, 6-1 as sophomore Chris Cloer (Brevard, NC) defeated Maryland's Fetbroyt in position five 6-0, 6-4. On center court #82 Abougzir played a tight match to defeat Maryland's Frayssinoux 7-6 (3), 6-4 while Sykut fought back to split only to fall in a third set tiebreak to Andrew Orban 5-7, 6-4, 10-3.
"I think we've got a lot of good singles players, I think we've got a lot of depth," coach Hultquist explained. "Jon (Sucupira) was a little hurt today and Brad (Mixson) is doing well, I think he's 9-1 in singles. I think our doubles will get better, we just have to continue working on it."

Florida State Men's Tennis Fall At Home To Cavaliers 4-3.
No. 25 Seminoles fell in ACC play to No. 3 Virginia 4-3. Florida State slips to 12-8 and 4-5 in the ACC.
TALLAHASSEE, FL - It was an emotional match on Easter Sunday as the No. 25 Seminoles fell in a tight battle to the No. 3 Virginia Cavaliers 4-3. Florida State men's tennis team captured the doubles point but was unable to clinch three singles victories to claim the match. This is the fifth 4-3 match the Seminoles have dropped this season and the first time in 14 matches the team has lost at the Scott Speicher Tennis Center. Florida State slips to 12-8 and 4-5 in the ACC while Cavaliers remain undefeated 9-0 in ACC play and 21-3 for the season.
"I think one of the things that has been difficult for us is that other than Virginia and Miami we've played the lower teams in the conference at home, and the tougher teams on the road," head coach Dwayne Hulquist explained. "Virginia is the favored team to win in the conference and we almost beat them. It shows that we're at the same level as the top couple teams in the conference."
There was high intensity from both teams during doubles action as Virginia's #2 Somdev Devvarman and Treat Huey broke the seven match winning streak of senior Jonathas Sucupira (Sao Paulo, Brazil) and junior Sam Chang (Young-Ming, Taiwan) 8-3 on center court. Florida State answered back with a win in position three as freshman Jean-Yves Aubone (Miami, Fla.) and sophomore Maciek Sykut (Marathon, Fla.) defeated the Cavaliers' Teddy Angelinos and Lee Singer 8-5. Doubles point decision was left up to court two as senior Ytai Abougzir (Boca, Raton, Fla.) and freshman Bradley Mixson (Miami, Fla.) overpowered UVA's #47 Houston Barrick and Dom Inglot 9-7 to give Florida State the doubles victory.
"We won the doubles point and I think this is the first time we haven't won the match when we've won the doubles point all year," Hultquist said.
In his final match at Scott Speicher Tennis Center, senior Sucupira captured the first FSU singles victory over Virginia's Barrick 6-4, 6-1. Sophomore Chris Cloer (Brevard, NC) was next to finish as he defeated the Cavalier's Lee Singer 6-2, 7-5. Virginia captured their first point of the day on center court as #2 Somdev Devvarman defeated Florida State's #99 Abougzir 6-2, 7-6 (2) while Sykut dropped a three set decision in position three to UVA's Inglot 5-7, 6-3, 6-4. Virginia received the next point as #22 Huey defeated #94 Aubone on court two in three sets 6-3, 5-7, 6-4.
Court four held the deciding match with Florida State's Chang capturing the first set 7-6 (4) and later splitting as Virginia's Marko Miklo won the second 7-6 (2). Due to leg cramping, Chang fell in the third set giving Virginia and Miklo the overall match victory with a 6-7 (4), 7-6 (2), 6-0 decision.
"We won four first sets and we were in really good position," Hultquist said. "Jon (Sucupira) and Chris (Cloer) won their matches in straight sets, then Virginia came back at court three, then at one, then on two and Sam cramping was kind of a tough break for us. Sam's first two sets went to tiebreakers plus it was a four hour match and I think he could have won that second if he hadn't cramped. That shows the level of how hard the points were in the first two sets. I was kind of disappointed we couldn't close it, but I thought we still played very well."
With only two matches remaining in the regular season, Florida State men's tennis (12-8, 4-5 ACC) travels to North Carolina for another weekend of ACC match-ups against NC State on Friday, April 13 and Wake Forest on Sunday, April 15. Florida State will compete in the Atlantic Coast Conference Championship on April 19.

Florida State Men's Tennis Advance To Semifinals After Upset Over Duke 4-2.
Florida State men's tennis will take on No. 2 Seed North Carolina tomorrow at 1:00 p.m.
CARY, NC - No. 6 seed Florida State men's tennis clinched a huge upset on Friday afternoon after defeating No. 3 Seed Duke 4-2 at the Cary Tennis Center. The Seminoles fell to Duke earlier in regular season in Durham, N.C. Florida State will now advance to the semifinals to take on No. 2 seed North Carolina on Saturday, April 21 at 1:00 p.m. also at the Cary Tennis Center. The winner will advance to the finals to take on either No. 1 seed Virginia or No. 4 seed Wake Forest on Sunday at 11:00 a.m.
Doubles competition held match-deciding breaks on all three courts. In position one, senior Jonathas Sucupira (Sao Paulo, Brazil) and juniors Sam Chang (Young-Ming, Taiwan) fought back to break Duke's Joey Atas and David Goulet twice to win 8-5. Senior Ytai Abougzir (Boca Raton, Fla.) and freshman Bradley Mixson (Miami, Fla.) dominated on court two to lose their serve at 7-5. The very next game, the Seminoles came charging back to break the Blue Devils' Dylan Arnould and Ned Samuelson 8-6.
"I think this win has to rank up there with one of our biggest wins of the year, right there with the Florida match and maybe on the road beating Wake Forest," head coach Dwayne Hultquist said.
"I thought the doubles were exceptional," Hultquist said. "Our position one doubles played really well against a top ten team in the country. To get the doubles point for us was very important and moved the momentum forward for us to win four first sets."
The Blue Devils answered back to Florida State's double performance downing sophomore Chris Cloer (Brevard, N.C.) in position five 6-3, 6-1 while Sucupira took charge on court two as he defeated Atas 6-4, 6-3. Chang followed doubles partner with a win on court four as he dominated Duke's Arnould 6-4, 6-1 while the Blue Devil's Alex Stone overcame Mixson in the six position 7-5, 6-3.
The match clincher came down to a battle on court one as Abougzir defeated Kiri Dimitrov 6-4, 6-2. Abougzir fell to Dimitrov when the two battled during regular season in Durham, N.C.
"I think one of the signs of a real good team is when different people win on different days," Hultquist explained. "I thought Ytai (Abougzir) really stepped up to beat a guy he had lost to earlier in the year and I thought that was the key singles match. Jon and Sam just killed their guys. We played a great team and the match was only two hours and forty-five minutes which is relatively short for two teams that are top twenty."
No. 6 seed Florida State now advances to the semifinals to take on the No. 2 seed North Carolina Tar Heels. The last time the two teams met was April 1, 2007 at Chapel Hill, N.C. where the Tar Heels defeated Florida State 4-3. Semifinals will begin on Saturday, April 21 at 1:00 p.m. at the Cary Tennis Center.

No. 6 Seed Seminoles Fall Short In Heartbreaker To No. 2 Seed North Carolina 4-3.
Florida State men's tennis fall short to the Tar Heels 4-3.
CARY, N.C. - After a four hour battle against No. 2 seed North Carolina, Florida State men's tennis fell short 4-3 to the Heels at the Cary Tennis Center in Cary, N.C. The Seminoles dropped two straight matches to give UNC the doubles point. Florida State then charged back to win three singles victories but unable to clinch the fourth.
The No. 2 seed Tar Heels took charge in doubles competition defeating the Seminoles in two straight pro sets. First match to complete was on court one where UNC's Lenny Cullan and David Stone overpowered senior Jonathas Sucupira (Sao Paulo, Brazil) and junior Sam Chang (Young-Ming, Taiwan) to win 8-5. Clinching the doubles point for North Carolina was position two's Sebastian Guejman and Stefan Hardy where the broke at 7-6 to defeat senior Ytai Abougzir (Boca Raton, Fla.) and freshman Bradley Mixson (Miami, Fla.) 8-6.
Florida State was quick to answer back to the doubles loss as Abougzir dominated over UNC's Ben Carlotti 6-3, 6-1 while sophomore Chris Cloer (Brevard, N.C.) fought in position five to defeat North Carolina's Guejman 6-3, 7-5. The Heels next took position six as Will Plyler defeated Mixson 6-4, 6-3 as Chang won two straight tiebreaks to overcome UNC's Taylor Fogleman 7-6 (4), 7-6 (5). With the Seminoles leading 3-2, FSU's sophomore Maciek Sykut (Marathon, Fla.) split sets to fall to the Heels' Hardy 4-6, 6-3, 7-5.
With the score now tied at 3-3, position two would be the deciding factor for the semifinals match. FSU's Sucupira won the first set in a heated tiebreaker 7-6 (10) while North Carolina's Chris Kearney fought back to win 7-5 in the second. Sucupira was then forced to take a medical timeout due to both of his legs cramping and ended up losing the third set 6-0. With the final singles victory on court two, No. 2 seed UNC clinched the overall match with a 4-3 decision over the No. 6 seed Florida State.
"Jon (Sucupira) is playing as good as anyone on our team," Hultquist said. "He's really played well and hasn't lost in a long time. I think if he hadn't cramped, he would've had a great chance to win the third set."
"I thought we battled really hard and I'm really proud of how we competed," head coach Dwayne Hultquist said. "I feel like we had a lot of things going against us with the guys being hurt and sick. I thought we did a great job at competing and put ourselves in position to win. It was a tough loss but I think if we can get the guys healthy we can still look for big things to come in the season."
Seminoles men's tennis team now head back to Tallahassee, Fla. to take a week off and prepare for final exams at Florida State. NCAA Regional host selection will take place on Tuesday, May 1 on ESPN News at 2:30 p.m. With two victories in the ACC Championships, Florida State looks to earn a regional hosting position.
"I would hope the win over Duke yesterday is enough for us to host," Hultquist said. "We've beaten Wake Forest, Duke and Florida who are all going to be top 16 seeds or in the running for it. I feel like we are in the range to be a top 16 team, whether it's 14, 15 or 16 and we should host."

No. 16 Florida State Men's Tennis Downs Manhattan 4-0 In Round One of NCAA Championships.
Florida State men's tennis team will compete in round two against either No. 46 Georgia Tech or No. 19 Florida at 1:00 on Saturday.
TALLAHASSEE, FL - Florida State men's tennis team opened their 2007 NCAA Championships today with a quick win over Manhattan 4-0. The Seminoles clinched the doubles victory due to a swift win on court three and an injury from Manhattan's Peter Czink on court number two. Florida State later continued dominating on home turf as they won three straight singles matches to advance the team to round two of the NCAA Regionals. The second match of the day features No. 19 Florida versus No. 46 Georgia Tech where the winning will take on Florida State on Saturday, May 12 at the Scott Speicher Tennis Center.
"When we finished the match I looked at the time, it took us two hours," said head coach Dwayne Hultquist. "I think that's good for us because we haven't played for about three weeks since the ACC seminfinals. The quick match will keep us healthy for tomorrow's match.
In doubles competition, Florida State was quick to take charge on court number three as freshman Jean-Yves Aubone (Miami, Fla.) and sophomore Maciek Sykut (Marathon, Fla.) downed Manhattan's Bogdan Borta and Mihai Nichifor 8-1. Senior and co-captain Ytai Abougzir (Boca Raton, Fla.) and freshman Bradley Mixson (Miami, Fla.) next clinched the doubles point after Manhattan's Peter Czink and Zoltan Bus defaulted on court two due to injury. Florida State's senior and co-captain Jonathas Sucupira (Sao Paulo, Brazil) and junior Sam Chang (Young-Ming, Taiwan) ended their match unfinished with the Jaspers' David Alvarado and Diego Alvarado at 6-3 on center court.
"It was unfortunate for the Manhattan player (Czink), their doubles team was pretty good on court two," Hultquist said. "The racquet slipped out of his hand and bounced up and busted open his chin. He would have definitely added to their singles lineup."
Florida State continued the victories in singles play as Sucupira dominated on court three with a bagel-bagel win over the Jaspers' Diego Alvarado 6-0, 6-0. Sykut was next to take charge in position five as he defeated Manhattan's David Alvarado 6-1, 6-0 while Chang clinched the match for the Seminoles winning two straight sets over Zoltan Bus of Manhattan 6-2, 6-2.
"I thought Jon was pretty sharp with a 6-0, 6-0 win," Hultquist said. "He was definitely running around hard and finishing points. I thought Jean-Yves did a pretty good job too coming back from an injury and was only a couple games away from winning his match."
Florida State men's tennis team (17-9, 8-6 ACC) now patiently awaits the results of the second Round One match with No. 19 Florida versus No. 46 Manhattan at 1:00 p.m today. Florida State will play the winner of match number two on Saturday, May 12 at 1:00 p.m. again at the Scott Speicher Tennis Center.

Seminoles Fall In Tough Battle to Florida 4-3 In Round Two of NCAA Championships.
Florida State men's tennis team ends its 2007 season with a 16-10 overall record.
TALLAHASSEE, FL - It was a roller coaster of emotions on Saturday as Florida State men's tennis team fell to their in state rivals Florida 4-3 in round two of the NCAA Championships. Florida State pulled ahead early winning the doubles points and quickly thereafter two singles victories. The Gators then charged back to win four straight singles matches to end Florida State's hopes of entering the sweet sixteen in Athens, Ga.
"I think they were more fit than we were," head coach Dwayne Hultquist said. "Other than Georgia, they are probably the best team at positions one through three. They really stepped up today and Dolberg (in position five) really played great."
Doubles competition began in favor of Florida as #3 Jesse Levine and Greg Ouellette charged ahead of FSU's #20 senior Jonathas Sucupira (Sao Paulo, Brazil) and junior Sam Chang (Young-Ming, Taiwan) to win center court 8-5. Florida State's senior Ytai Abougzir (Boca Raton, Fla.) and freshman Bradley Mixson (Miami, Fla.) answered back with an 8-5 decision over the Gators' Nestor Briceno and Geoff Barton. Florida State next clinched the doubles point in position three as sophomore Maciek Sykut (Marathon, Fla.) and freshman Jean-Yves Aubone (Miami, Fla.) defeated Florida's Jordan Dolberg and Daniel Cash 8-3.
"I think Jon and Sam played really well today even with the loss," Hultquist said. "Ouellete and Levine are a great doubles team but I think our guys have a really good chance at winning the NCAA doubles competition."
In singles action, the Seminoles took charge on courts four and six as Chang downed UF's Billy Mulligan 6-2, 6-1 and sophomore Chris Cloer (Brevard, NC) dominated Florida's Cash 6-1, 6-2. In position two Florida's #21 Ouellete fought back to defeat #123 Aubone 6-4, 6-2 while #3 Levine of UF overpowered Florida State's #78 Abougzir 6-2, 7-5.
On court three Sucupira began to suffer from leg cramps after a tough first set. Florida's Briceno overcame the injured senior to win in two sets 7-6 (3), 6-2 to tie the overall match score to Florida State 3, Florida 3. Position number five was the deciding factor as Florida State's Sykut split to a third set. Florida's Dolberg fought back to win 4-6, 6-3, 6-2.
"I think that conditioning definitely played a factor," Hultquist said. "I think our team was little tired physically and mentally.
Florida State men's tennis team ends their season at round two of the NCAA Champions with an overall season record of 16-10 and 8-6 in the Atlantic Coast Conference. Coach Hultquist seemed disappointed with the end result but had positive feelings about the overall season.
"I think we have always played good tennis down the stretch," Hultquist explained. "We have a trend of playing well late in the year. It happened last year and it happened the year before. We had a tough draw playing Florida again and I think when two teams play again, I think the opponent is inspired to really play."

The Seminoles will now advance to the Round of 32 to take on Illinois' No. 8 Kevin Anderson and Ryan Rowe tomorrow (May 25) not before 3:00 p.m. at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex.
"Tomorrow will definitely be a challenge," Hultquist explain. "We're looking forward to a good match against Illinois."
No. 20 Jonathas Sucupira and Sam Chang end their 2007 doubles career with a 11-4 dual-match record.
ATHENS, GA - After splitting to three sets in round two of the NCAA Doubles Championship, No. 20 senior Jonathas Sucupira (Sao Paulo, Brazil) and junior Sam Chang (Young-Ming, Taiwan) dropped a tight battle to defending national champions No. 8 Kevin Anderson and Ryan Rowe of Illinois 6-2, 5-7, 6-3 in Athens, Ga.
"We played the defending national champions and played a really tight match and put ourselves in a really close position to winning," head coach Dwayne Hultquist said. "I'm really happy with the way we played the match. Illinois guy's serves are huge. Anderson actually won his first eleven serves then we finally broke him after that. The difference I think today was just that they served really well."
"We were down 6-2, 3-1 in the second set and we fought back," Hultquist explain. "The guys fought back and fought really hard to win the second set. We made Illinois play really hard to beat us in the third set."
The Florida State duo ends their 2007 doubles career with an 11-4 record and season high ranking of twenty in the nation. Coach Hultquist is proud of everything Sucupira and Chang as well as the team have accomplished in the 2006-07 season.
"We did a lot of good things this year," Hultquist explained. "Sam and Jon coming in to this tournament really did great winning the first round. Jon had a great senior year and beating Florida and Miami earlier in the year and having the highest ranking in the program's history was definitely a highlight. We have a lot of good guys coming back next year and continue building from the last three years where we've finished in the top twenty each year."
