Men lead after first day at TYR Classic.

MIAMI, Fla. - The men are in control of the TYR Classic, winning every event on Friday night and will take (276) a 31-point lead into Saturday's competition.
"The team came to the meet today ready to race," FSU assistant coach Steve Barnes said. "They did a great job of bringing energy to their races and they had a desire to win. We put together some great races that we can build off of for the second day of this meet."
The Seminoles started out with a four-second win in the 400 medley relay behind Mason Herbet, Jason Martindale, Adrian Aguilar, and Blake Moran behind a time of 3:19.82.
Peter Varjasi established a new meet record in the 200 free, touching with a time of 1:37.45. Varjasi set the old mark last season at 1:38.25.
Utku Kurtdere put up a dominating win in the 400 IM, winning by eight seconds with a time of 4:01.49.
Aguilar touched first in the 100 fly (48.88) and Moran was the winner in the 50 free (21.11).
Martindale cruised to win the 100 breast (54.80) and Herbet (47.84) was just off his meet record from 2021 (47.61) for the victory in the 100 back.
Varjasi, Moran, Aguilar, and Herbet won the 200 free relay to close out the session at 1:21.96.
The divers also put up a one-two punch, led by Jesco Helling in first, scoring 339.90 on 3-meter. Darwin Nolasco followed in second at 283.20.
"The divers also came ready to do what was needed to put FSU in a position to win the invite," Barnes added.
October 8, 2022 MIAMI, Fla. - For the second straight season, the Florida State men's swimming and diving team won the TYR Classic, which was hosted by FIU at the Biscayne Bay Aquatics Center.
After taking the title in 2021, the Noles won the two-day invite in 2022 with a score of 552 points ahead of FAU (475), Keiser (388), St. Thomas (354), FIT (341), and Lynn (315).
"It was great to get the victory today and start the season off with a win," FSU assistant coach Steve Barnes said. "We are laying a great foundation to build on. We have more room to grow and improve, but this weekend was a great kickstart to get us ready for the upcoming meets."
The Seminoles took a 31-point lead (276) into Saturday's meet and picked up right where they left off, winning the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:30.47 behind Mason Herbet, Jason Martindale, Adrian Aguilar and Blake Moran.
Yordan Yanchev and Utku Kurtdere turned in the top two times in the 500 free, with Yanchev winning the top heat at 4:28.87 and Kurtdere winning the ‘B' flight at 4:35.25.
Martindale finished third in the 200 breast (2:06.25) before Herbet won the 200 back (1:48.24).
Varjasi won the 100 free by two seconds, touching at 44.04 and Kurtdere added a win in the 200 fly at 1:50.97.
Herbet was the runner-up in the 200 IM (1:52.12), however, Varjasi turned in the top time at 1:49.92 while racing in the first heat.
Jesco Helling made it a perfect sweep of the springboards, winning 1-meter (295.95) after taking 3-meter on Friday (339.90). Darwin Nolasco followed in second place at 285.53.
"It's early in the year for us, but I'm happy these guys took care of business this weekend," FSU head diving coach John Proctor said. "They've been working hard and they've built a great base for this season."
FSU ended the meet by winning the 400 free relay behind Aguilar, Moran, Yanchev, and Varjasi with a time of 3:00.79.

Noles Dominate Quad Meet.
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - The No. 21/NR Florida State swimming and diving teams picked up four wins on Friday at the Morcom Aquatics Center.
The No. 21 men's team (1-0) defeated Florida Southern (192-69) and the women (3-0) were victorious over West Florida (224-73), North Florida (238.00) and FSC (232-59).
"We swam very well today," FSU head coach Neal Studd said. "We had quite a few highlights throughout the meet and we're very pleased with the effort and attention to detail. Tomorrow is going to be a big day for us. We haven't hosted a big opponent like Georgia at Morcom in a couple of years, so we'll have to bring our energy and create an awesome atmosphere and be ready."
The women won 14 events on the day, while the men picked up 12.
After a sweep of the 200 medley relay, Ella Dyjak posted a 10-second victory in the 1000 free, touching at 10:20.40.
Sophie Freeman added two wins, placing first in the 200 free (1:51.45) ahead of Edith Jernstedt (1:52.23). Freeman also won the 200 back (2:00.66) touching ahead of Jaden Herbet in second place (2:04.93).
Herbet led the way in the 100 back (56.52), finishing first ahead of Sydney Cole (58.74) in second and Natalie Peterson in third (59.37).
Rachel Moran (1:05.64) and Malaika Schneider (1:06.09) added a one-two showing in the 100 breast and Sarah Evans (23.54) and Alexandra Dicks (23.92) followed with another in the 50 free.
After the break, Evans added another victory in the 100 free (51.40) ahead of Brooke Arnold (51.89) in second and Phoebe Griffiths (52.03) in third.
The Noles added another sweep, as Sydney VanOvermeiren (2:21.36) outlasted Anna Metzler (2:21.86) for the win, ahead of Moran (2:22.29) in third.
Aryanna Fernandes was the winner in the 200 IM, touching with a time of 2:05.87 ahead of Julia Mansson (2:09.54) in second place.
The ladies closed out the meet with a win in the 200 free relay behind Dicks, Gloria Muzito, Freeman and Zsofia Kurdi with a time of 1:34.12.
Samantha Vear led the Noles in diving, winning both springboard events.
Vear started with a victory on 1-meter (301.88) finishing ahead of Izzy Gregersen in second (290.55) and Jessica Buntman (270.15) in third. On 3-meter, Vear turned in the top score of 336.90, ahead of Vivian Johnson (322.13) and Gregersen (319.50) for the sweep.
"For our first meet of the year I am very excited with how our women performed," FSU head diving coach John Proctor said. "I think this is a sign of good things to come."
The men also opened the meet with a sweep of the 200 medley relay.
Zach Smith posted an eight-second victory in the 1000 free, touching at 9:24.31.
Yordan Yanchev added two wins, first taking the 200 free (1:38.40) ahead of Jack Hall (1:40.12) in second and David Quirie (1:41.51) in third. Yanchev later added a victory in the 100 free (44.60), holding off Varis Monroe (44.72) in second and Aziz Ghaffari (45.29) in third.
Monroe's time was a career-best.
Max Wilson made his debut for the Noles, touching first in the 100 back at 48.84 behind a personal best, ahead of Arijus Pavlidi (49.05) in second.
Mason Herbet (55.50) out-touched Marcos Egri-Martin (55.84) for the win in the 100 breast and Smith added another victory, winning the 200 fly at 1:50.80.
The Noles were dominant in the 50 free, led by Peter Varjasi (19.82), Jokubas Keblys (20.73) in second and Blake Moran (20.76) in third.
FSU went one-two in the 200 back, led by Tyler Hanley (1:51.52) and Quirie (1:52.07).
Brennan Hammond (49.31) led the sweep of the 100 fly, ahead of Auben Nugent (50.13) and Carlos Vasquez (50.48).
Varjasi picked up his second win, touching at 1:48.25 in the 200 IM before the Noles swept the 200 free relay to close out the meet.

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - The No. 21/NR Florida State swimming and diving teams fell to No. 7/15 Georgia at the Morcom Aquatics Center on Saturday.
The men (1-1) dropped its contest 121-179 and the women (3-1) fell 123-176.
"We did some great things today," FSU head coach Neal Studd said. "We came up short, but Georgia is a very good team. We have a lot to be proud of and this will be something we can build on this season."
Edith Jernstedt lowered her own Morcom Aquatics Center pool record in the 200 fly, controlling the race for the win at 1:58.06. Jernstedt originally set the mark back in January (1:58.64). She later contributed a win in the 100 fly, touching at 53.79.
Peter Varjasi also bested his pool record in the 100 free, touching at 43.60, eclipsing his standard of 43.62 that was set back on Nov. 14, 2020.
The Seminoles got off to a quick start in the women's meet, winning the 200 medley relay behind Sarah Evans, Julia Mansson, Jernstedt, and Gloria Muzito at 1:40.84, just ahead of the top team from Georgia (1:40.94).
Georgia won the next four races, until Jernstedt took home the 200 fly. Sophie Freeman (2:02.28) followed in third place ahead of Aryanna Fernandes (2:03.68) in fourth.
Zsofia Kurdi led the way for the Noles in the 50 free, finishing in second at 23.56.
After the break, Muzito added a runner-up finish in the 100 free (50.34) and Mansson brought home the victory in the 200 breast, touching at 2:14.99, which was a season-best.
Once again, Samantha Vear led the Noles on the boards, dominating 1-meter with a score of 303.38. Jessica Buntman also added third-place points, tallying 251.40.
On 3-meter, Vear was the runner-up with a total of 301.65, just ahead of Vivian Johnson in third (281.78), Izzy Gregersen in fourth (271.95) and Buntman (251.40) in fifth.
The Seminoles also added two wins in the men's diving events as Darwin Nolasco was the winner on 1-meter (294.30) and Jesco Helling picked up the win on 3-meter (331.95) ahead of Nolasco in third (309.90).
"Sammy was great today," FSU head diving coach John Proctor said. "Darwin also had a nice day. It's early in the year, but we'll go back to work and learn from today and get better."
After the Noles started the day by placing second in the men's 200 medley relay, Yordan Yanchev won the 1000 free by five seconds, touching with a time of 9:11.56. He later placed second in the 500 free at 4:24.16.
Varjasi was the runner-up in the 200 free, touching at 1:36.06 and Mason Herbet followed with a win in the 100 back, touching at 46.90.
Tommaso Baravelli touched in second place in the 100 breast at 54.95 and Brennan Hammond followed with a runner-up finish in the 200 fly (1:48.14).
Ian Copper (20.04) and Varjasi (20.21) placed second and third in the 50 free before the break.
Arijus Pavlidi (1:46.23) was the runner-up in the 200 back and Baravelli out-touched Luca Orlando from Georgia (2:00.19) for the win in the 200 breast, posting a time of 2:00.17.
The Seminoles finished second, third and fourth in the 100 fly, led by Herbet (47.88), Adrian Aguilar (48.72), and Hammond (49.32). Herbet returned shortly in the 200 IM and finished second at 1:49.10.
The team of Yanchev, Pavlidi, Varis Monroe, and Aziz Ghaffari finished out the meet in second place in the 400 free relay, touching at 2:58.50.

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - The No. 21/NR Florida State swimming and diving teams won its first ACC dual meets of the season, defeating Georgia Tech on Friday at the Morcom Aquatics Center.
Both teams donned pink caps to 'Paint it Pink', as the 21st-ranked men (2-1, 1-0 ACC) defeated the Yellow Jackets 221-78 and the women (4-1, 1-0 ACC) won 235-65.
The Seminoles accounted for seven Morcom Aquatics Center pool records and 30 total event wins.
"Today was a great day for us," FSU head coach Neal Studd said. "We had a lot of pool records, had some best times and season bests. The team atmosphere was incredible. I am really proud of the work we did today."
Peter Varjasi swam two pool records, first setting a new mark in the 200 free, touching at 1:34.54, taking down Conor Dwyer's (Florida) standard of 1:34.70 that was set back on Nov. 23, 2010. Varjasi later lowered his own record in the 100 free, touching at 42.83 after establishing a new mark last week at 43.60.
Rookie Tommasso Baravelli also accounted for two records. The Italian first broke the 200 breast record touching at 1:55.42. He bested the 1:56.32 that was set by Rob Holderness back on Nov. 23, 2010.
Baravelli later clipped the mark set by Mason Herbet (1:47.35) in January in the 200 IM, touching at 1:46.96. His 200 breast is the fourth-fastest in FSU history, while his 200 IM time ties for 10th.
Arijus Pavlidi set a new pool record in the 200 back, touching at 1:43.37, erasing Ian Crum's (Georgia) mark of 1:44.71 that was established last week.
After lowering her own Morcom Aquatics Center Pool Record against No. 15 Georgia, Edith Jernstedt swam faster in the 200 fly, finishing first at 1:56.72.
Julia Mansson swam a personal best in the 200 breast, touching at 2:09.68 setting a new pool record. Mansson bested the mark of 2:12.58 that was set by Nina Kucheran on Oct. 15, 2021. Her swim is also the third-fastest in FSU history.
The women's team started off with a one-two finish in the 200 medley relay. The top team of Sarah Evans, Mansson, Jenny Halden, and Gloria Muztio touched at 1:38.88 for first ahead of Tania Quaglieri, Maddy Huggins, Aryanna Fernandes, and Zsofia Kurdi (1:39.40) in second.
Georgia Tech won the 1000 free, but the Seminoles answered by winning the next five races before the break, starting with a first and second place showing in the 200 free, led by Anna Metzler (1:49.13) in first and Muzito (1:49.76).
The Noles swept the 100 back as Maddie McDonald touched first at 54.24 followed by Quaglieri (54.35) and Evans (54.87). McDonald was later victorious in the 200 back leading the sweep, ahead of Metzler (1:59.96) and Sydney Cole (2:00.28).
Mansson (1:00.84) and Huggins (1:01.21) went one-two in the 100 breast behind season-best swims. Mansson's mark ties her for ninth all-time with FSU Hall of Fame member Emma Dutton.
Kurdi won the 50 free (22.98) followed by Alexandra Dicks (23.11) in second, and Fernandes (23.51) in third.
Following the break, Kurdi came back to win the 100 free (50.00) ahead of Muzito (50.36) in second and Brooke Arnold (50.77) in third.
Huggins paced the 200 breast with Mansson, touching in second at 2:10.31, which was her personal best by two seconds. She now holds the fourth-fastest time in school history.
Phoebe Griffiths led the sweep of the 500 free, clocking a 4:54.33 ahead of Ella Dyjak (4:57.01) and Julia Brzozowski (4:57.57).
Jernstedt added another win in the 100 fly (53.14) and Sophie Freeman (54.42) followed in second place. Following the second break, Jernstedt led the way in the 200 IM (1:59.44), just missing the pool record (1:59.31). Metzler followed in second (2:00.33) and Sydney VanOvermeiren (2:03.16) took third.
On the boards, Darwin Nolasco and Jesco Helling split the men's victories. Nolasco was the winner on 1-meter, scoring 315.83 ahead of Helling in second (310.80). Helling outscored his teammate by almost three points on 3-meter, winning with a score of 356.85 ahead of Nolasco at 353.63.
Samantha Vear stepped up and won both women's diving events, winning 1-meter with a score of 278.48 and 3-meter at 329.40. Izzy Gregersen turned in the second-highest score for the Noles in both events, tallying 256.20 for third on 1-meter and 283.80 for second on 3-meter.
"We had a good day today," FSU head diving coach John Proctor said. "Sammy dove a big list today and Darwin has been stepping up and has been diving really well."
The men swept the 200 medley relay to start the meet, as Herbet, Jaydon Cunningham, Domen Demsar, and Varjasi clocked a 1:25.97.
Herbet (46.25), Pavlidi (47.88) and Max Wilson (48.33) put together a sweep of the 100 back and Baravelli was the winner in the 100 breast at 53.79.
FSU swept the 200 fly, led by Brennan Hammond (1:46.73), followed by Carlos Vanquez (1:47.36) and Zach Smith (1:48.32).
Ian Cooper (20.14), Jokubas Keblys (20.24), Demsar (20.33) and Eli Butter (20.57) clocked the four-fastest times in the 50 free.
Yordan Yanchev won by almost four second in the 500 free (4:20.15) and Herbet picked up his third win of the day, touching first in the 100 fly (46.90) ahead of Adrian Aguilar (47.63) in second and Hammond (47.63) in third.
The Noles grabbed the win in the 400 free relay behind Varjasi, Yanchev, Pavlidi and Keblys at 2:54.40.

ATHENS, Ga. - The No. 19/24 Florida State swimming and diving teams opened competition at the Georgia Invite on Thursday at the Gabrielsen Natatorium.
"I thought we had a good first day," FSU head coach Neal Studd said. "We had season and career-best swims across the board. We were much better at night, so tomorrow we'll look to adjust and get it done in the morning."
Peter Varjasi paced the 19th-ranked Noles, swimming in five races. Varjasi won silver in the 200 IM behind a four-second drop, touching at 1:43.17 (NCAA B), which was under the 2022 NCAA invited time. Varjasi qualified third for the final at 1:44.80 in prelims.
His swim was the second fastest in FSU history behind Pavel Sankovich's school record (1:41.92) which was set back in 2014.
Varjasi started the night by leading off the 200 free relay, splitting 19.43 and helping FSU finish sixth with a team of Mason Herbet, Blake Moran, and Ian Cooper at 1:17.84.
The Seminoles were also sixth in the 400 medley relay to close out the session behind Arijus Pavlidi, Tommaso Baravelli, Herbet, and Varjasi at 3:08.71.
In prelims, Varjasi qualified eighth in the 50 free for the final at 19.65 in prelims but scratched to focus on relays and the 200 IM.
Yordan Yanchev swam a season-best in the 500 free, touching at 4:15.02 for fourth place. His time was an NCAA B standard and was just shy of the 2022 NCAA Invite time (4:14.96).
The Noles showed their depth in the 200 IM and in addition to Varjasi, three others swam in the other final heats. Herbet won the consolation final with a time of 1:44.03 (NCAA B), which was just under his personal best. Baravelli followed in 13th behind his best at 1:45.58 (NCAA B).
Max Wilson swam in the bonus heat, touching at 1:47.18 after posting his best at 1:46.98 in prelims.
FSU had three swimmers in the consolation heat of the 50 free, led by Cooper in 13th (19.97), Moran in 15th (20.12), and Keblys (20.54) in 16th.
The No. 24 women's team came out and started finals off by placing fourth in the 200 free relay (1:30.74) behind Zsofia Kurdi, Gloria Muzito, Maddie McDonald, and Tania Quaglieri.
Edith Jernstedt swam a career-best in the 200 IM, leading the Noles with a seventh-place finish at 1:59.01 (NCAA B). The swim ranks sixth in school history.
Anna Metzler tied for 12th swimming in the B final, touching at 2:00.63. Aryanna Fernandes placed 22nd competing in the bonus heat, touching at 2:01.81.
Muzito won the consolation heat of the 50 free (22.73), contributing a personal best, just ahead of Kurdi (22.75) in 10th. McDonald followed in 14th (23.14), which was her best.
On short rest, McDonald led off the 400 medley relay with a split of 53.62 in the 100 back, helping FSU place fourth at 3:34.51 with Maddy Huggins, Jernstedt, and Kurdi.
Samantha Vear continued to shine for the Noles on the boards, finishing second on 3-meter with a score of 326.30. Izzy Gregersen followed in the seventh at285.05 and Vivian Johnson placed 10th at 264.15.
Tazman Abramowicz returned to the lineup and led FSU in the men's 1-meter event, placing 11th with a score of 273.50 after posting a score of 296.80 in prelims.
Jesco Helling placed 13th (266.10) and Darwin Nolasco was 16th (244.65).
"The ladies were fantastic today," FSU head diving coach John Proctor said. "Sammy has been at the top of her game this year and she had another great day today.
The guys didn't have their best day, but it was great to see Tazman get back in the swing of things."

The 19th-ranked men saw a pair of podium performances from Tazman Abramowicz and Adrian Aguilar.
Abramowicz turned in a score of 356.25 for third placeon 3-meter and Aguilar also won bronze in the 100 fly at 46.54, which was a personal best. The swim ties as the seventh-fastest in school history.
Utku Kurtdere led off the men's meet with a NCAA provisional swim in the 400 IM, touching at 3:51.30 for 14th.
The Noles were led by three in the consolation heat of the 200 free as Peter Varjasi turned in the top time at 1:34.23, which was good for 10th place. Yordan Yanchev followed at 1:35.43 for 13th and David Quiire placed 16th at 1:36.87 after posting his season best at 1:35.26.
Rookie Tommaso Baravelli swam the fourth-fastest 100 breast in school history in prelims at 53.30 (NCAA B). At finals, Baravelli was slightly off that time, touching at 53.37 for eighth.
Mason Herbet and Max Wilson swam in the top heat of the 100 back, led by Herbet in fourth (45.80) and Wilson (47.24) in eighth. Wilson also swam the sixth-fastest time in school history in prelims, touching at 46.40, which was his best.
In addition to Abramowicz on the boards, Jesco Helling finished eight at 339.70.
The 24th-ranked women's team started the night off by winning bronze in the 200 medley relay behind Maddie McDonald, Maddy Huggins, Jenny Halden, and Gloria Muzito at 1:37.63.
Anna Metzler turned in an NCAA provisional standard in the 400 IM, touching at 4:10.18 for fourth place, which is the third-fastest time in school history. Sydney VanOvermeiren touched in 10th place at 4:17.15 after turning in her season-best of 4:16.88 (NCAA B) in prelims. Sydney Cole contributed 15th place points at 4:26.95.
The Noles had two in the top heat of the 100 fly, led by Edith Jernstedt in fourth place at 53.12, followed by Jenny Halden, who placed eighth at 54.04 after swimming a time of 53.76 in prelims.
Phoebe Griffiths turned in the top time for the Noles in the 200 free, posting a 1:48.00 for 18th place.
Maddy Huggins followed in the championship heat of the 100 breast, touching at 1:01.13 for fifth place after swimming a mark of 1:00.80 in prelims.
The Seminoles showed their depth in the 100 back, placing four in the top 16, led by Maddie McDonald, who placed eighth at 53.94. Jaden Herbet led the way in the consolation heat, finishing in 10th at 54.09, which was her career best.
Tania Quaglieri followed in 11th (54.22) and Sarah Evans placed 13th (54.25).
The Noles had two divers in the final of 1-meter, led again by Samantha Vear who placed fifth with a score of 283.95. Jessica Buntman followed in 10th place at 245.90.
"We had a better day today," FSU head diving coach John Proctor said. "Tazman and Jesco did a great job and Jessica was awesome today. She made the final and moved up two spots, so that was a bright spot. She's been focusing on tower and it was great to see her do well on springboard. Sammy was right there again with the leaders."

Maddie McDonald started the night off by leading the way for the Noles in the 200 back, touching at 1:56.67 for 10th. Jaden Herbet followed in 14th (1:58.60) after posting her personal best in prelims at 1:58.27. Anna Metzler (1:58.70) and Natalie Peterson (1:59.93) also competed in the consolation heat, finishing in 15th and 16th respectively.
FSU had two in the top heat of the 100 free, led by Gloria Muzito in sixth at 49.56 and Zsofia Kurdi followed in seventh at 49.63. Muzito turned in her personal best.
Maddy Huggins also contributed her best in the 200 breast, placing fourth at 2:10.35. Edith Jernstedt picked up bronze in the 200 fly (1:56.58) and Sophie Freeman won the consolation heat, touching at 1:59.15, which was her best.
The divers competed on platform with Noles securing NCAA Zone B qualifying scores, led by Izzy Gregersen in sixth place at 251.25. Jessica Buntman took eighth (231.15) and Vivian Johnson followed in 11th (212.80).
Florida State closed out the meet by placing fourth in the 400 free relay behind Kurdi, Muzito, Jernstedt and Aryanna Fernandes at 3:17.45.
Earlier in the day, Julia Brzozowski led FSU in the 1650 free, placing 15th with a time of 16:45.72 ahead of Phoebe Griffiths (16:59.12) in 20th and Ella Dyjak (17:10.42) in 21st.
Arijus Pavlidi (1:42.42) raced in the top heat of the 200 back, placing eighth. However, Mason Herbet was the winner in the bonus heat, contributing his best time at 1:43.58. Tyler Hanley (1:46.57), Max Wilson (1:47.01) and Conner Lowery (1:48.59) also competed in the C final, with Hanley posting his best. Wilson also saw a personal best in prelims at 1:46.64.
Peter Varjasi swam his career best in the 100 free at 42.35 for fourth place, but Varjasi led off the 400 free relay with a faster time of 42.32. The swim is the third-fastest in school history.
Rookie Tommaso Baravelli turned in FSU's top time in the 200 breast (1:56.71) for seventh place, and Brennan Hammond placed eighth in the 200 fly at 1:46.18, which was his best.
Darwin Nolasco was the lone Seminole competing in the men's platform event, placing seventh at 331.95.
"We had a solid day," FSU head diving coach John Proctor said. "We got some zone scores and I'm very happy with that."
FSU finished the meet with a fourth-place finish in the 400 free relay with Varjasi, Adrian Aguilar, and Pavlidi at 2:51.60.
David Quirie (15:24.44), Cam Taddonio (15:26.38), and Yordan Yanchev (15:27.54) finished in 18th, 19th, and 20th place respectively in the 1650 free.
Both squads finished the team race in fourth place. The No. 24 women tallied 615 points, while the No. 19 men had 456.5.

Noles Split Tigers on Saturday.
BATON ROUGE, La. - The No. 16/RV Florida State swimming and diving teams split duals on Saturday against NR/No. 25 LSU at the LSU Natatorium.
The 16th-ranked men (3-1, 1-0 ACC) defeated the Tigers 180-120, while the women (5-2, 2-0 ACC) fell 119.5-180.5.
"We had some really great performances today," FSU head coach Neal Studd said. "I am very proud of how we competed. We had some illnesses and injuries that we were managing, so we're even happier with how we did. It was a really bright start to the new year and championship semester."
The men won 11 of the 16 events, which included sweeps in the 200 IM and 100 fly. Yordan Yanchev, Tommaso Baravelli, and Mason Herbet all contributed two individual wins each.
The Seminoles started the meet by winning the 200 medley relay behind Herbet, Baravelli, Adrian Aguilar, and Peter Varjasi with a time of 1:27.15, edging LSU's top team (1:27.38).
Yanchev then held on to win the 1000 free (9:16.46), and David Quire added a second place showing in the 200 free (1:37.91), just shy of the win (1:37.88).
Herbet won the 100 back (46.72) by two seconds and Baravelli led a one-three-four charge in the 100 breast with a time of 54.18, ahead of Jaydon Cunningham in third (55.77) and Marcos Egri-Martin in fourth (56.37).
The Seminoles grabbed first, third and fourth in the 200 fly, led by Carlos Vasquez, who touched first at 1:49.84, just one one-hundredth of a second ahead of LSU's top swimmer. Utku Kurtdere followed just behind in third (1:49.94) and Auben Nugent (1:50.35) took fourth.
LSU won the 50 and 100 free, but the Noles got back on track with a win from Arijus Pavlidi in the 200 back with a time of 1:46.18. Baravelli added his second victory of the day, winning the 200 breast at 1:58.29.
Yanchev went wire-to-wire in the 500 free, winning with a time of 4:25.18.
Herbet led the sweep of the 100 fly, touching at 47.47 ahead of Aguilar (48.76) in second and Vasquez (49.12) in third.
Out of the break, Varjasi cruised to victory in the 200 IM (1:48.51) ahead of Baravelli (1:51.06) in second and Max Wilson (1:51.20) in third.
On the boards, Tazman Abramowicz bounced back after finishing sixth on 1-meter to win 3-meter with a score of 367.43 ahead of David Vargas in third (355.70), Darwin Nolasco in fourth (342.90), and Jesco Helling (340.85) in fifth.
Nolasco turned in the top score for the Noles on 1-meter, finishing third at 322.50. Vargas was fourth (322.28) and Helling placed fifth (317.63).
FSU closed out the meet by finishing second in the 400 free relay behind Aguilar, Herbet, Eli Butters, and Pavlidi at 2:56.99.
FSU started the women's meet with a second-place finish in the 200 medley relay behind Tania Quaglieri, Maddy Huggins, Aryanna Fernandes, and Alexandra Dicks (1:41.34).
Julia Brzozowski (10:08. 47) placed second in the 1000 free, but the Tigers swept the 200 free.
The Noles placed second, third and fourth in the 100 back, led by Maddie McDonald (55.41), followed by Jaden Herbet in third (56.36), and Sarah Evans (56.44).
Huggins (1:02.44) and Julia Mansson (1:02.98) added a one-two showing in the 100 breast and Sophie Freeman contributed a win in the 200 fly with a time of 1:59.93.
Gloria Muzito (23.41), Zsofia Kurdi (23.62), and Dicks (23.66) finished second, third and fourth, in the 50 free.
Out of the break, Muzito tied for first place with a time of 50.79 in the 100 free.
Freeman placed second in the 200 back (2:00.65) ahead of Sydney Cole (2:01.21) in third and McDonald (2:01.80) in fourth.
FSU swept the 200 breast, led by Mansson, who won with a time of 2:15.77 ahead of Huggins (2:16.74) in second and Sydney VanOvermeiren (2:19.48) in third. Rachel Moran was also fourth at 2:19.61.
LSU would answer with a sweep of its own in the 500 free and Freeman added another silver in the 100 fly at 54.03.
VanOvermeiren was the top Nole in the 200 IM, touching third at 2:05.23.
After finishing fourth on 3-meter (299.33), Samantha Vear came back to win 1-meter with a score of 307.73.
FSU closed out the meet by taking second in the 400 free relay behind Muzito, Brooke Arnold, Freeman and Kurdi (3:23.58).

OCALA, Fla. - The No.16/NR Florida State swimming and diving teams fell to No.3/7 Florida, at the Florida Aquatics Swimming and Training Facility on Friday.
The 16th-ranked men (3-2, 1-0 ACC) fell 118-179 and the women (5-3, 2-0 ACC) dropped its contest 103-191.
"We had a good team performance today," FSU head coach Neal Studd said. "We had some people really step up. We fell to a very good team but overall, I think we learned a lot as we fine-tune for championship season."
The men started the meet off by finishing second in the 200 medley relay behind Mason Herbet, Tommaso Baravelli, Adrian Aguilar, and Peter Varjasi with a time of 1:27.31.
Uktu Kurtdere turned in the top time for the Noles in a close 200 free race where five swimmers finished within seven-tenths of a second of each other. Kurtdere was third at 1:37.53, which was his personal best, followed by Aziz Ghaffari in fifth (1:37.64).
Herbet led the way in the 100 back, touching first with a time of 47.39. Arijus Pavlidi (48.82) and Conner Lowery (49.74) placed third and fourth.
In the 100 breast, the Seminoles claimed second and third place, led by Marcon Egri-Marti at 54.52, followed by Jaydon Cunningham, who contributed his personal best at 54.65.
Jaka Pusnik was the runner-up in the 200 fly, touching at 1:47.50, followed by Carlos Vasquez (1:47.54) in third.
FSU placed third, fourth, and fifth in the 50 free behind Jokubas Keblys (20.22), Blake Moran (20.31) and Ian Cooper (20.33).
After the first break, Varjasi took silver in the 100 free at 44.45 with Moran (45.17) following in fourth and Eli Butters (45.38) in fifth.
The Noles added a one-two finish in the 200 back, led by Pavlidi in first place at 1:46.15. Nick Mason followed in second (1:48.52) and Lowery also scored (1:50.56) touching fifth.
Herbet (47.68) and Vasquez (48.25) were second and third in the 100 fly and Kurtdere was second in the 400 IM, touching at 3:53.68.
FSU took second place in the 200 free relay with a time of 1:19.57 behind Varjasi, Cooper, Keblys and Herbet to close the meet.
The women finished second, third and fourth in the 200 medley relay, led by Tania Quaglieri, Julia Mansson, Jenny Halden, and Gloria Muzito with a time of 1:41.68.
Quaglieri turned in the top time in the 100 back for FSU, touching at 55.75 for third place ahead of Maddie McDonald (56.54) in fifth and Sarah Evans (56.57) in sixth.
Edith Jernstedt led the way for the Noles in the 200 fly (2:00.71), finishing third, ahead of Jenny Bird in fourth at 2:01.79, which was just off her personal best (2:01.51). Mabry Bishop also scored, touching fifth at 2:02.25.
Alexandra Dicks (23.09) and Gabrianna Banks (23.36) finished third and fourth in 50 free. Banks posted her season best and was just off her career-best (23.31).
Maddy Huggins (2:16.67) added a second-place finish in the 200 breast and Julia Mansson (2:18.95) touched fourth.
Sophie Freeman finished first in the 100 fly with a time of 53.97, which was her personal best.
Dicks, Muzito, Aryanna Fernandes and Evans finished second in the 200 free relay at 1:33.26.
In Gainesville, the divers competed in both springboard events.
Tazman Abramowicz finished fourth in men's 1-meter, scoring 335.33 points. On 3-meter, Jesco Helling turned in the top score for the Noles at 344.85 for third, followed by Darwin Nolasco in fourth (342.15) and David Vargas (328.95) in fifth.
Samantha Vear was the leader for the Noles, taking fourth place in 3-meter (278.63). Vear grabbed silver on 1-meter, scoring 302.25 and Isabel Gregersen finished fifth at 258.90.

Noles End Regular Season with Victory Over Tampa on Senior Day.
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - The No.16/NR Florida State swimming and diving teams brought home two wins against Tampa at the Morcom Aquatics Center on Friday.
The 16th-ranked men (4-2, 1-0 ACC) defeated Tampa 152.5-71.5, and the women (6-3, 2-0 ACC) won, 163-61.
Prior to the meet, 18 seniors were recognized for their achievements as student-athletes.
"Today was about the seniors," FSU head coach Neal Studd said. "We had a lot of fun competing against Tampa and we stepped up and swam well. I like where we are as we shift our focus towards championship season."
The Seminoles saw two Morcom Aquatics Center pool records on Friday. Yordan Yanchev lowered his mark in the 500 free, touching with a time of 4:16.84. Yanchev originally set the record one year ago at 4:18.87.
Yanchev also placed first in the men's 200 free with a time of 1:36.79 ahead of his teammate Utku Kurtdere (1:39.33) in second.
Tommaso Baravelli set the standard in the 200 IM, touching at 1:46.95, which erased Mason Herbet's 1:47.35 that was also set against the Spartans last season.
The women started the meet off by finishing in first and second place in the 200 medley relay, led by Sarah Evans, Julia Mansson, Jenny Halden and Gloria Muzito at 1:39.51.
Julia Brzozowski (10:14.61) and Ella Dyjak (10:22.69) placed first and second in the 1000 free and Tania Quaglieri dominated the 200 free, winning with a time of 1:49.45.
Muzito and Malika Schneider touched first and second in the 50 free with times of 23.06 and 23.77 respectively.
The Seminoles then swept the 100 IM, led by Aryanna Fernandes (57.71) in first, Edith Jernstedt (57.77) in second, Anna Metzler (58.19) in third and Sophie Freeman in fourth (58.21).
Freeman added a win later in the meet, taking the 500 free with a time of 4:59.77 ahead of Dyjak (5:03.10) in second and Brzozowski (5:03.10) in third.
Phoebe Griffiths was the winner in the 100 free (52.27) and Maddie McDonald touched first in the 100 back (54.47).
FSU added a one-two finish in the 100 breast, led by Mansson (1:01.53) in first and Zsofia Kurdi (1:02.40) in second.
Maddy Huggins (2:01.75) and Jernstedt (2:03.90) finished in first and second place as Huggins turned in her personal best.
Muzito, Fernandes, McDonald and Kurdi ended the meet with a victory in the 200 free relay, touching at 1:32.06.
In the men's meet, Herbet, Baravelli, Adrian Aguilar, and Peter Varjasi took first in the men's 200 medley relay to start the meet with a time of 1:27.60.
Blake Moran added two individual wins, taking the 50 free (20.40) ahead of Arijus Pavlidi (20.56) in second. He also won the 100 free, touching at 44.54.
Varjasi (49.19) and Domen Demsar (50.26) finished first and second in the 100 IM and Aguilar (48.55) and Brennan Hammond (49.21) followed in first and second place in the 100 fly.
The Noles added the sweep of the 100 back, led by Herbet (47.42), followed by Max Wilson (49.14) and Demsar (49.28).
Herbet, Pavlidi, Jokubas Keblys and Varjais won the 200 free relay to finish the meet, touching at 1:20.81.

Vear Picks Up Two Wins in Atlanta.

ATLANTA, Ga. - The divers took to the boards in Atlanta, Ga., on Friday against Georgia Tech, Miami and Auburn at the McAuley Aquatics Center.
Samantha Vear picked up two wins in the springboard events. Vear took first on 3-meter with a score of 315.45. On 1-meter, Vear was the winner by less than one point, scoring 286.80.
On 3-meter, Izzy Gregersen (254.10) was fifth, Cassidy Carder (227.40) placed sixth, and Jessica Buntman (219.40) finished seventh. On 1-meter, Gregersen (235.80) added a sixth-place finish ahead of Buntman (233.20) in seventh and Carder (207.85) in ninth.
In the men's events, Darwin Nolasco turned in the top score on 1-meter, finishing second at 344.80, which was a career-high score.
David Vargas followed in seventh (311.55) ahead of Jesco Helling (302.40) in ninth. Helling (334.60) was sixth on 3-meter, followed by Vargas (303.90) in ninth and Nolasco (298.75) in 11th."

Halden, Relays Win Gold at Auburn Invite.

AUBURN, Ala. - The No.16/NR Florida State swimming and diving teams opened competition at the Auburn Invite on Friday.
The Seminoles won five relays and Jenny Halden captured gold in the 100 fly behind a season-best of 52.65.
"Today was a fun day," FSU head coach Neal Studd said. "We had some good swims and a great team vibe. We're looking forward to another opportunity tomorrow."
The women's team finished first behind Brooke Arnold, Ariana Ottavianelli, Ashley Zettle and Des Lewis at 1:35.44 in the 200 free relay to start the meet.
Arnold turned in her season best in the 500 free, finishing in fifth place with a time of 4:55.46. Ashley Zettle placed ninth at 5:09.51.
Sydney Cole followed with a personal best in the 200 IM, touching at 2:03.50 for fourth place ahead of Syndey Boals in eighth at 2:04.34.
In the 50 free, Gabrianna Banks led the way, touching seventh with a time of 23.40. Des Lewis was ninth at 23.55, which was her career best. Lewis also added another best, leading off the FSU's second 400 medley relay team with a time of 56.86 in the 100 back.
The team of Natalie Peterson, Rachel Moran, Jenny Bird, and Arnold finished in first place in the 400 medley relay with a time of 3:44.83.
The men also finished first in the 200 free relay to start the meet, led by Sam Bork, Eli Butters, Blake Moran, and Ian Lauritzen at 1:20.41.
Jack Hall turned in the top time for the Noles in the men's 500 free, touching at 4:31.11, which was his fastest of the season.
Brennan Hammond posted a time of 1:48.42 in the 200 IM, which was his personal best, for eighth place.
Blake Moran tied for ninth place in the 50 free, swimming the fastest time for the Noles at 20.02.
Conner Lowery, Jaydon Cunningham, Butters and Moran closed out the session by winning the 400 medley relay with a time of 3:13.17.
The women started the evening session off by winning bronze in the 200 medley relay behind Lewis, Malaika Schneider, Mabry Bishop and Banks with a time of 1:42.90.
Cole added a season-best in the 400 IM, touching at 4:18.83 for silver ahead of Boals in fourth at 4:24.63.
Arnold finished eighth in the 200 free (1:49.08) and Schneider followed with her best in the 100 breast at 1:03.35.
Bird led the way for the Noles in the 100 back, touching fourth at 56.27.
The men picked up a win in the 200 medley relay, led by Lowery, Jaydon Cunningham, Butters, and Moran at 1:27.83.
Hammond turned in the top time for the Noles in the 100 fly (48.74) for tenth place.
Cunningham tied for seventh (55.01) and Groenewold put up a season-best at 55.41, tying for ninth.
Lowery added a
seventh-place finish in the 100 back (48.46). Lowery led off the 400 medley relay with a mark of 47.60, which was just off his best (47.29).

Brooke Arnold added her best time in the 100 free, touching at 50.59, finishing in ninth.
The Seminoles had two in the women's 200 breast, led by Rachel Moran (2:19.62) in 11th and Sydney Boals (2:23.25) in 14th.
Mabry Bishop led the way for the Noles in the 200 fly, touching fourth at 2:01.55, just off her best time (2:01.43). Jenny Bird followed in eighth at 2:05.10.
Conner Lowery got the session started off by placing seventh in the men's 200 back at 1:47.83.
In the 100 free, Blake Moran led the way, finishing 10th at 44.17 ahead of Ian Lauritzen in 17th at 44.84, which was a season-best, just off his personal best (44.76).
Calvin Groenewold touched ninth in the 200 breast (2:00.98) and Brennan Hammond took sixth in the 200 fly with a time of 1:46.52 ahead of Auben Nugent in eighth (1:48.32).
Jack Hall closed out the meet by racing the mile, touching with a time of 15:53.57 for 10th place.

Vear Leads Noles on Opening Night of ACCs.

GREENSBORO, N.C. - The 2023 ACC Swimming and Diving Championships opened on Tuesday night at the Greensboro Aquatic Center with Florida State diver Samantha Vear finishing in sixth place in the women's 3-meter springboard with a total of 320.70.
After qualifying eighth out of prelims, Vear was first in the dive order for every round.
Vear got out to a hot start climbing to third place after the second round, scoring 65.10 on her toughest dive behind marks of 7.0, which was a front 3 1/2 somersault pike. In prelims, the dive was her lone miss of the round.
After missing her third-round dive, Vear quickly bounced back by scoring 57 points in the fourth round, putting her back in the mix in seventh. The Conroe, Texas, native, added 58.50 on her inward 2 1/2 somersault pike in the fifth round, but still sat in seventh.
In the sixth and final round, Vear
moved up one spot behind a 54-point scoring twister, scoring 320.70 for sixth place in her first appearance at the ACC Championships.

GREENSBORO, N.C. - Florida State men's swimmer Yordan Yanchev brought home the bronze medal in the 500 free on the second night of the 2023 ACC Swimming and Diving Championships at the Greensboro Aquatic Center.
In addition to Yanchev, Peter Varjasi finished fourth in the 200 IM and Samantha Vear was also fourth in the women's 1-meter diving event.
"It was a great evening," FSU head coach Neal Studd said. "They really stepped up in the pool and supported each other. It was one of the most fun evenings I have been a part of. I am so proud of them."
Yanchev was just off his season best in the 500 free in prelims (4:15.02), qualifying fifth at 4:16.79.
Working from lane two, Yanchev began to pace the field around the halfway mark. As the top-seeded swimmers made their move, Yanchev turned for home in the final 50 yards, slightly in third place.
Yanchev surged to the finish for bronze, touching at 4:12.97, lowering his own FSU record he set last season (4:14.16).
The Sandankski, Bulgaria, native became the first medalist in the race since Mateo DeAngulo won gold back in 2012, before the ACC expanded to host Louisville, Notre Dame, and Pitt.
"I couldn't be happier for Yordan," Studd added. "He's such a great kid and he works so hard."
Varjasi swam a time of 1:43.97 in the 200 IM, qualifying for finals in sixth out of the heats.
At night, Varjasi capitalized on his strong back half, claiming fourth place with a time of 1:43.37. The Erlangen, Germany, native, became the first championship finalist in the race since 2018.
Vear never fell out of the top eight during 1-meter prelims, qualifying sixth for finals with a score of 277.60.
In finals, Vear started strong, sitting in fourth place at the halfway point. Vear slipped to sixth following her toughest dive. In the fifth round, Vear bounced back, scoring 7.5's on her inward 1 1/2 somersault pike for 54 points, leaving five divers in a close competition for spots third through seventh.
On her last dive, Vear scored 7.5's on her front 1 1/2 somersault 2 free twist, bringing her total to 296.95 for fourth place.
The 18th-ranked men's team opened the night with a fifth-place finish in the 200 free relay behind Mason Herbet, Arijus Pavlidi, Jokubas Keblys, and Varjasi at 1:16.82, which was an NCAA provisional time.
David Quirie competed in the bonus heat of the 500 free, touching for 21st place at 4:20.50.
Max Wilson saw a big drop in prelims in the 200 IM, touching at 1:44.97, which is the fifth-fastest time in FSU history. Swimming in the consolation heat, Wilson tied for 14th, at 1:45.16.
Baravelli survived a potential disqualification in prelims, qualifying for the bonus final of the 200 IM at 1:45.99. He went on to win the heat, placing 17th overall at 1:44.80. His time is now fifth in school history, while Wilson's prelim swim is now sixth.
Keblys competed in the consolation heat of the 50 free where he placed 16th at 19.90 after posting a 19.72 in prelims. Ian Cooper finished 18th (19.66) and Pavlidi placed 23rd (19.97) after swimming his best in prelims at 19.77.
The women's 200 free relay led off the night by taking eighth behind Zsofia Kurdi, Jernstedt, Gloria Muzito, and Maddie McDonald at 1:29.59.
Maddy Huggins, Anna Metzler, and Edith Jernstedt all earned second swims in the 200 IM.
Jernstedt emerged as the winner of the heat, touching with a personal best of 1:57.64, which is the second-fastest time in FSU history.
Metzler in 20th (1:59.29) and Huggins in 21st (1:59.30). Metzler contributed her best at finals, while Huggins swam her best in prelims at 1:59.09, which is the ninth-fastest time in school history.

In addition to Vear, Izzy Gregersen added 18th place point from women's 1-meter,
scoring a tally of 238.90.

GREENSBORO, N.C. - Florida State men's diver Tazman Abramowicz finished the 3-meter final in fifth place on Thursday at the 2023 ACC Swimming and Diving Championships at the Greensboro Aquatic Center.
As the first diver in the order in prelims, Abramowicz turned in a solid round, scoring 362.65 for fourth place.
The Calgary, Alberta, native, scored four dives with 60 points or higher, contributing his best in the fourth round, which was a 63-point scoring back 2 1/2 somersault pike.
Teetering between fourth and fifth place, Abramowicz went into finals changing his final dive to include a higher degree of difficulty.
Abramowicz tallied 56.10 on his inward 3 1/2 tuck, finishing his first ACC Championship Final in fifth place with a score of 363.90. In finals all six of his dives received marks between 5.5 and 7.0.
"Today was a big day for Taz," FSU head diving coach John Proctor said. "He's really been working hard on a lot of stuff between the ears and it showed today. He's come a long way since a pretty rough injury and for him to get back to this point, we're really happy for him."
In addition to Abramowicz, Jesco Helling also scored 13 place points, tallying 333.90. Darwin Nolasco was just outside of the scorers, placing 28th at 277.60.
"Jesco did a great job today as well," Proctor added. "He only had one miss and a solid list. He has really trained well this year and is maturing as a good competitor. Darwin has been super steady all year for us. Today he was spot on except for two dives. He will be ready for platform."
Anna Metzler and Sydney Van Overmeiren competed in the consolation heat of the 400 IM.
Metzler won the heat, touching ninth with a time of 4:10.41, which was just off her season best of 4:10.12. VanOvermeiren swam her season best in prelims (4:15.15) and finished 15th with a time of 4:16.54.
The Seminoles had four swimmers earn second swims in the 100 fly, led by Jenny Halden and Edith Jernstedt in the consolation heat.
Jernstedt led the way touching 12th with a time of 52.54, just ahead of Halden in 13th at 52.62.
Aryanna Fernandes (52.35) Sophie Freeman (53.32) swam in the C final. Freeman swam her personal best, which now ranks 10th in school history.
Phoebe Griffiths (1:47.01) was just off her split in the 800 free relay (1:46.88) in prelims, taking 16th at 1:47.41 in the women's 200 free.
Utku Kurtdere took the final spot in the bonus heat out of prelims of the 400 IM. At night, Kurtdere dropped two seconds, moving up to take 22nd with a time of 3:50.24, which was a personal best. The swim ranks as the sixth-fastest in FSU history.
Aguilar swam his career best in the swim-off of the 100 fly, touching at 46.43 after he tied for 16 in prelims (46.56). Herbet also added his best in the morning heats at 46.59. In the bonus heat, Aguilar tied for 18th, touching at 46.44, while Herbet placed 20th at 46.52, which was his best.
Aguilar (46.43) and Herbet (46.52) now hold the sixth and seventh fastest times in FSU history in the race.
David Quirie swam his personal best in the 200 free to lead FSU out of prelims in the 12th place at 1:34.57, ahead of Yordan Yanchev in 14th at 1:35.15.
Fresh off his record-setting 500 free, Yanchev swam his best in finals, touching at 1:33.92 for 13th place, just ahead of Quirie in 14th behind another best at 1:34.11.
Yanchev's swim is now the third-best in FSU history, while Quirie ranks fourth.
Peter Varjasi dug deep a won the bonus heat of the men's 200 free, touching at 1:34.61 for 17th place.

GREENSBORO, N.C. - The No.18/NR Florida State swimming and diving teams had three student-athletes compete in championship heats on Friday at the 2023 ACC Swimming and Diving Championships at the Greensboro Aquatic Center.
Edith Jernstedt swam in the women's 200 fly ‘A' final, Mason Herbet competed in the men's 100 back top heat, while Isabel Gregersen dove in her first women's platform final. Additionally, seven Noles contributed performances that rank within the top 10 in FSU history.
"We had a great evening session," FSU head coach Neal Studd said. "We moved up several spots in almost every race. I am so proud of how they competed tonight."
Jernstedt was just off her season best (1:56.58) in prelims, touching at 1:56.65 for fifth place. At night, Jernstedt swam her career best at 1:55.78, which is the second-fastest time in FSU history.
Herbet turned in the seventh-fastest time out of prelims at 46.07 in the 100 back. In finals, Herbet moved up to place sixth at 45.93.
Gregersen hit four of her five platform dives in prelims for above 50 points, finishing sixth with a score of 261.70. At night, Gregersen scored 216.25 for eighth place.
Sophie Freeman swam her personal best in prelims at 1:57.86 in the women's 200 fly, qualifying for the consolation heat. At night, Freeman went faster, touching at 1:57.47, moving up to place 11th. Her swim ranks seventh in FSU history.
The Seminoles had three women score in the bonus heat of the 100 back, led by Tania Quaglieri (53.32), who placed 18th. Sarah Evans followed behind in 19th (53.53) after swimming her career best in prelims at 53.40. Maddie McDonald touched 20th at 53.55.
Evans now ranks eighth in the race in school history.
Maddy Huggins led the way for the Noles in the 100 breast, swimming her best time at 1:00.34 for 14th place. Prior to the consolation heat, Julia Mansson won the bonus final with a time of 1:00.70.
Behind career-best swims, Huggins ranks fifth in school history, while Mansson is now ninth.
In addition to Gregersen, Jessica Buntman and Samantha Vear also contribute points. Buntman finished 12th with a score of 224.80, while Vear was 23rd at 200.05.
"Our women did a great job today," FSU head diving coach John Proctor said. "Sammy scored in an event she doesn't do. Jessica was one dive away from the final and Izzy made her first ACC final. These women have been over, through, and under so many hurdles in the last 24 months. They know very well what they've overcome and I am very proud of them."
The women closed out the night by taking fifth place in the 400 medley relay behind Quaglieri, Huggins, Jernstedt, and Gloria Muzito at 3:34.02. Quaglieri led off with a season-best in the 100 back, splitting 53.15.
Jaka Pusnik scored his first points at ACCs, placing 20th at 1:45.70 in the men's 200 fly, breaking into the FSU All-Time Top 10 in eighth place.
Arijus Pavlidi and Max Wilson also earned seconds swims in the men's 100 back.
With both swimming in the consolation heat, Pavlidi led the way in 13th at 46.44, ahead of Wilson in 14th at 46.59 after posting a time of 46.54 in prelims.
Tommaso Baravelli swam his career-best in prelims of the 100 breast, touching at 53.21, advancing to the consolation heat. Baravelli lowered his best at night, taking 11th at 53.16. His time is now tied with Brendon Dedekind for the third-fastest in FSU history.
Marcos Ergi-Martin qualified for the last spot in finals in 24th at 54.36. He also swam fastest in finals, moving up to place 20th at 54.00.
FSU finished eighth in the 400 medley relay to close out the night, touching at 3:08.08 behind Herbet, Baravelli, Adrian Aguilar, and Peter Varjasi.

GREENSBORO, N.C. - Florida State men's swimmer Arijus Pavlidi set the school record in the 200 back on the final day of the 2023 ACC Swimming and Diving Championships and the Greensboro Aquatic Center on Saturday.
"It was a great last day for us," FSU head coach Neal Studd said. "It was a big fight and fantastic effort all the way until the end. I'm really happy for AJ and his new school record. What a swim. We also had some good relays to finish strong."
Pavlidi qualified for the consolation heat of the race in 11th place with a time of 1:42.32 in prelims, which was just off his career-best (1:42.23). At night, Pavlidi controlled the heat, touching with a time of 1:40.37 for the heat win to place ninth overall.
Pavlidi took down the oldest swimming record on the books which was set by Andy Hodgson back in 2009 at 1:41.11. His swim was also under the time that was invited to the NCAA Championships in 2022.
Prior to Pavlidi's record, Yordan Yanchev swam in the early heats of the 1650 free. His time of 15:08.13 was fast enough for eighth place. His swim was a personal best by 19 seconds and now ranks eighth in school history.
Additionally, David Quirie finished 13th with a season-best of 15:16.07 and Zach Smith followed in 15th at 15:18.54, which was also his fastest of the season.
Peter Varjasi tied his best time of 42.32 in the 100 free, finishing in 10th place.
In the 200 breast, Tommaso Baravelli led the way for the Noles, touching with a time of 1:55.87 for 14th place ahead of Jason Martindale in 20th at 1:56.87, which was his career best. His swim still ranks eighth in FSU history.
All three divers scored points towards the team total in the men's platform, led by Tazman Abramowicz in 11th place at 306.15. Jesco Helling followed in 14th at 295.15 and Darwin Nolasco placed 18th at 270.15.
"It was great that all three guys scored," FSU head diving coach John Proctor said. "All three of our guys had dives today that were spot on, but they also had some mistakes and at this level, those kept us out of the final. But we saw some great things from our guys today and we'll get recharged for Zones."
Maddie McDonald capped off her career by finishing 12th in the 200 back with a time of 1:55.86 after she swam her season-best in prelims at 1:55.56. Sarah Evans also competed in the consolation heat, touching in 16th (1:59.00) after she swam a career best in prelims at 1:56.70. Evans now owns the eight-fastest mark in FSU history.
In the 100 free, Gloria Muzito added her best time at 49.08 for 21st place ahead of Zsofia Kurdi, who placed 24th (50.34) after posting a 49.59 in prelims. Muzito broke in to the FSU all-time top 10, where she now ranks fourth.
Maddy Huggins was the winner of the consolation heat of the 200 breast, contributing her best time of 2:10.01, just ahead of Julia Mansson in 11th at 2:10.74. Huggins' swim still ranks fourth in school history.
Prior to the start of finals, Julia Brzozowski posted a time of 16:39.18 in the 1650 free for 17th place.
Florida State closed out the meet by placing seventh in the 400 free relay behind Muzito, Edith Jernstedt, Sophie Freeman and Tania Quaglieri with a time of 3:17.34.
The 18th-ranked men finished in sixth place with a score of 661 points and the women took seventh at 586.

February 25, 2023 ATHENS, Ga. - Members of the No.18/NR Florida State swimming and diving teams competed at the Bulldog Last Chance Invite on Saturday at the Gabrielsen Natatorium.
"We had some good races today," FSU head coach Neal Studd said. "We saw some best times today, which was great. We are hoping for just a little more tomorrow."
Utku Kurtdere, Jaka Pusnik, and Alexandra Dicks highlighted the day by contributing personal best times. Kurtdere swam his best in the 200 IM at 1:47.17 for fifth place, while Pusnik touched seventh at 1:38.06. Dicks led off the women's 200 free relay with her career-best in the 50 free at 22.68.
The Seminoles touched third in the women's 200 free relay behind Dicks, Jernstedt, Quaglieri and Muzito at 1:29.86.
Jenny Halden grabbed bronze in the 100 fly with a time of 53.11 after posting a 52.95 in prelims.
FSU won the 200 medley relay behind Quaglieri, Julia Mansson, Halden and Dicks at 1:36.84.
Mason Herbet, Arijus Pavlidi, Jokubas Keblys, and Peter Varjasi finished first in the men's 200 free relay with a time of 1:17.74.
Varjasi took sixth in the 50 free at 19.87 ahead of Keblys in seventh at 19.97.
FSU added another win in the 200 free relay behind Herbet, Tommaso Baravelli, Adrian Aguilar and Varjasi
at 1:25.34.

ATHENS, Ga. - The Bulldog Last Chance Invite came to a close on Sunday night at the Gabrielsen Natatorium with members of the No.18/NR Florida State swimming and diving team contributing more best times.
"We had a really great day," FSU head coach Neal Studd said. "Now we wait to see where everyone stands for NCAA's."
Gloria Muzito was the winner in the women's 100 free, touching with a time of 49.24.
Sophie Freeman contributed her best in prelims of the 200 fly, touching at 1:57.18, which is now the fourth-fastest time in FSU history. Freeman took fourth place in finals at 1:58.83.
Maddy Huggins added her career-best in the 200 breast, winning the race with a time of 2:09.55. Her swim now ranks third in FSU history.
Tania Quaglieri contributed her season-best in the 100 back in prelims, touching at 52.91. She placed sixth overall in finals at 53.31. Sarah Evans was the winner of the consolation heat, touching at 53.43.
The team of Quaglieri, Julia Mansson, Jenny Halden, and Alexandra Dicks contributed their season-best in the 200 medley relay, touching at 1:36.37.
In the 200 fly, Utku Kurtdere swam his personal best, touching at 1:46.84 for fifth place. Jaka Pusnik followed in sixth at 1:47.10.
Tommaso Baravelli placed fourth at 1:55.87 in the 200 breast before Mason Herbet won the 100 back at 45.88.

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. - Florida State divers opened competition at the 2023 NCAA Zone B Diving Championships at the Allan Jones Aquatic Center on Sunday.
Tazman Abramowicz, David Vargas, and Darwin Nolasco competed in the final of the men's 1-meter competition.
Abramowicz led the Noles out of prelims in 11th place at 335.45 after a steady round, scoring all of his six dives at 5.0 or higher. With scores carrying over to finals, Abramowicz ended up taking 14th place with a total of 657.50.
Nolasco (312.70) and Vargas (312.60) advanced to finals in 17th and 18th, taking the last two spots.
Vargas maneuvered up to 12th place after his fourth-round dive. After slipping four spots in the fifth round, Vargas switched his last round dive from prelims from a front 3 1/2 somersault tuck, to a pike. He received marks from 7.0-7.5, scoring 72.60 points, bringing his tally to 656.05 for 15th.
Nolasco finished prelims in 17th place after his final three dives received marks between 6.0-6.5, scoring 312.70 for the round. In finals, Nolasco scored just above his prelim total at 319.30 for a score of 632.00 for 16th.
Jesco Helling also dove in the event, placing 24th with a score of 288.45.
"We were right there today," FSU head diving coach John Proctor said.
"But, we've got to find that extra gear and get the job done."

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. - Florida State divers Samantha Vear and Tazman Abramowicz punched their tickets to the NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships on Monday at the Zone B Diving Championships at the Allan Jones Aquatic Center.
Vear placed seventh in the women's 1-meter competition, while Abramowicz finished eighth in the men's 3-meter event.
Vear advances to her first NCAAs and will join teammates Julia Mansson, Edith Jernstedt, Maddy Huggins, Anna Metzler along with the 200 medley relay next week back in Knoxville. Abramowicz qualified for the fifth time in his career and is the first Seminole to earn a spot in the men's meet, which will take place March 22-25 in Minneapolis, Minn.
"It was a great day today," FSU head diving coach John Proctor said. "Sammy loves to compete. She's in her element at these meets and it showed today. It was fun to watch her work. Tazman has now made NCAAs representing three different schools. He had a bad injury earlier this year and he clawed his way back to this. The field in this zone is brutal. It's so talented and after just missing qualifying yesterday, he kept his head together and made it today."
Vear put together a solid prelim round, scoring all her dives between 5.0-7.0 for a total of 292.05 for seventh place.
In finals, Vear improved her first two dives and jumped to sixth place after the third round, however, a mishap in the fourth dropped her to eighth. Despite the miss, Vear was still in control of a qualifying spot.
The Conroe, Texas native, got back on track and finished strong, scoring above 50 points on her final two dives to take seventh at 578.80.
Over the course of 12 dives, Abramowicz stayed consistent and didn't register a miss. All of his dives received marks of 5.5 or higher.
Out of prelims, Abramowicz tied for seventh place with a score of 370.40. In finals, Abramowicz received marks between 6.5-7.5, improving his score by 23 points for a total of 763.95. Abramowicz beat out the ninth-place diver by just under 10 points for the final qualifying spot.
His final round score of 393.55 was a season-best and was his highest since the Zone D Championships in 2022 (394.95).
David Vargas also qualified for the final in 10th place out of prelims at 356.90, which was also his best of the season. In finals, Vargas had five dives that scored 55 points or higher, which kept him in the hunt for a qualifying spot. Vargas finished 14th with a score of 705.85.
"David has been battling injuries all year," Proctor added. "He didn't go to ACCs and he just showed up here with no misses. He just has some work with the little things, but he belongs at this level. All of these guys will be ready for tower tomorrow."
Jessica Buntman also competed in the women's 1-meter event, finishing 33rd with a score of 236.35.
"Jessica did a good job today," Proctor said. "She's really developed a lot over the last two years and she made her way to this meet. I'm proud of her."
Jesco Helling and Darwin Nolasco
also dove in a tough men's 3-meter field. Helling placed 21st (330.45) and Nolasco finished 27th (302.10).

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. - Samantha Vear and Tazman Abramowicz qualified for the NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships in an additional event on Tuesday at the NCAA Zone B Championships.
Vear finished sixth in the women's 3-meter competition and will dive both springboard events at the NCAA Women's Swimming and Diving Championships from March 15-18 back at the Allan Jones Aquatic Center. Abramowicz finished fifth in men's platform and will add that to his list in Minneapolis, Minn., from March 22-25.
After qualifying for the NCAA Championships on 1-meter on Monday, Vear advanced to the women's 3-meter final after scoring 325.00 in prelims for fifth place.
Needing only to finish within the top 12 to add 3-meter to her NCAA list, Vear added 327.95 to her tally in finals, scoring 652.95 for sixth place.
Despite performing all 12 of his dives from the 5-meter or 7.5-meter platforms, Abramowicz received marks of 6.0 or higher on every dive. Needing to finish only in 12th after an eighth-place finish on 3-meter on Monday, he led Seminoles out of prelims with a score of 362.35 in fifth.
In finals, he held his place, finishing with a total of 709.55.
"It was great to see Sammy and Taz add to their NCAA list," FSU head diving coach John Proctor said. "Sammy was on her game and was in control the entire time. It's been really fun watching her compete. Taz was just awesome. He didn't really have a miss. Our zone is loaded with talent and he went out there and had another great day."
In addition to Abramowicz, Jesco Helling, David Vargas, and Darwin Nolasco all competed in the men's platform final.
Helling scored 10 dives at 5.5 or higher, including his reverse 2 1/2 somersault tuck from 7-meter that scored marks of 8.0-8.5. Helling made it out of prelims in 12th place at 336.80 and added 348.90 in finals, holding on to 12th place.
Vargas got off to a strong start in prelims, scoring 354.10 as five of his six dives received marks of 5.5 or higher. Vargas finished in 13th place, scoring 670.90.
Nolasco scored 11 of his 12 dives at 5.0 or higher. He finished 15th in prelims, scoring 319.65, and held on to that spot in finals at 655.15 after adding 335.50 for the round.
"It was great getting four guys into that final," Proctor said. "Jesco had some great dives and he really fought for it today. For David, I think this was one of the best meets he put together. He does such a tough list and he was in the mix today after battling injuries all year. Darwin also had a solid day. I think each of these guys has something they can take away from this meet."
Vivian Johnson returned to the lineup and finished in 25th place in the women's 3-meter, scoring 267.35 ahead of Isabel Gregersen in 35th at 241.15.
"It was
great to see Vivian get back out there," Proctor added. "She had some really great dives today. For Izzy, she is focused on tower. Today for her was just about getting an event under her belt and
tomorrow, she will be ready to go."

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. - The 2023 NCAA Zone B Diving Championships came to a close at the Allan Jones Aquatic Center on Wednesday afternoon. Isabel Gregersen and Jessica Buntman competed in the women's platform final.
In prelims, Gregersen jumped four spots on the last dive, scoring 56.70 total points on her front 3 1/2 tuck to finish in 17th at 230.05. In finals, she held her place after adding a total of 245.80 to finish at 475.85.
Buntman stayed consistent over her 12 dives, scoring marks of 5.0 or higher on every dive. She made her first Zone final in 18th place at 226.80. In finals, Buntman contributed her best scoring round of 244.50, which kept her in 18th.
"The ladies gave it their all today," FSU head diving coach John Proctor said. "It was a good meet for us and we're excited to move on to NCAAs in the next few weeks."

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. - The No.22 Florida State men's swimming and diving team opened competition at the 2023 NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships on Thursday at the Jean K. Freeman Aquatic Center.
"We had a good morning with some bright spots," FSU head coach Neal Studd said. "But we're ready for a big day tomorrow."
Swimming the 200 IM for the first time at NCAAs, Peter Varjasi was just off his career-best, touching with a time of 1:43.44 (1:43.17), finishing 30th. Varjasi will race in the 200 free on Friday.
Yordan Yanchev competed in the 500 free, touching with a time of 4:23.30. Yanchev will join Varjasi in the heats of the 200 free on Friday.
Arijus Pavlidi made
his NCAA debut, racing in the 50 free. He clocked a time of 20.07 just off his best (19.77). Pavlidi will swim the 100 back on Friday.

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. - All four student-athlete representing the No. 22 Florida State men's swimming and diving team were in action at the 2023 NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships on Friday.
"We had another good day," FSU head coach Neal Studd said. "We're looking to close out the season strong tomorrow."
Peter Varjasi and Yordan Yanchev competed in the 200 free, while Arijus Pavlidi swam the 100 back. Tazman Abramowicz made his fifth appearance at the NCAA Championships, competing in the men's 3-meter springboard.
Varjasi clocked a season-best in the 200 free, touching at 1:34.16 and Yanchev followed at 1:34.88. Varjasi is scheduled to compete in the 100 free, while Yanchev is entered in the 1650 free.
Pavlidi swam a time of 46.91 in the 100 back, touching for 39th place. Pavlidi is set to swim his specialty, the 200 back on Saturday.
Abramowicz received marks between 5.0-7.0 on each of his six dives to score 336.60 for 30th place. He will compete in platform on Saturday to close out his collegiate career.
"Tazman started off strong and gave himself a chance," FSU head diving coach John Proctor said. "He fought a really hard
fight just to get here. He was prepared and ready to go. He was a just little bit off and that was the difference."

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. - The No.22 Florida State men's swimming and diving closed out the 2023 NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships on Saturday at the Jean K. Freeman Aquatic Center.
Yordan Yanchev turned in the highlight of the day, clocking a new personal best by almost 12 seconds in the 1650 free at 14:56.18. Yanchev swam down Alex Zettle of Texas in the final 100 yards to claim the heat one win by just under two-tenths of a second. He finished 25th overall.
Yanchev secured the third-fastest time in FSU history, after swimming the eighth at the ACC Championships (15:08.13) this season.
"That was a big swim by Yordan," FSU head coach Neal Studd said. "Nearly dropping 12 seconds after he swam his best mile just about a month ago was a big highlight of the meet. I am very proud of our guys. I thought we had a good meet overall."
Arijus Pavlidi led off prelims by clocking 1:42.70 in the 200 back, finishing 33rd.
Peter Varjasi was just off his career best in the 100 free (42.32), touching with a time of 42.47 for 29th place, moving up in seed.
Tazman Abramowicz closed out his collegiate career by competing in the men's 10-meter platform. Abramowicz performed four dives from the 10-meter platform despite being unable to train or compete at the distance since the start of the season.
Abramowicz received marks between 6.5-7.0 on two of those 10-meter dives, finishing 33rd with a total of 309.20.
"This is the part of this job, the end part, when you watch their last dive, I will never get used to," FSU head diving coach John Proctor said. "It's sad and beautiful at the same time. I am so proud of Taz for what he's managed to pull through. There is a lot behind the scenes, but he's a mountain climber. I'm blessed to have had the opportunity to get to know such an amazing young man.
"Fortunately, this isn't goodbye since he's been accepted to the sports psych master's program," Proctor added. "I'm truly grateful for everything he did this year for our team."
