FSU Names Neal Studd as Head Coach.
July 20, 2016
TALLAHASSEE, FL -- Neal Studd, a five-time Coastal Collegiate Swimming Association (CCSA) Coach of the Year at Florida Gulf Coast University (FGCU), has been named head coach of Florida State’s men’s and women’s swimming and diving program by Vice President and Director of Athletics Stan Wilcox today.
Studd, a native of Ipswich, United Kingdom, led FGCU’s women’s program to six CCSA Championships (2009-13, 15) and a 28-1 all-time conference record since beginning the program at the Ft. Myers, Fla., school in 2007.
“We are pleased to welcome coach Studd and his family to FSU,” said Wilcox. “Coach Studd has an outstanding reputation both within our state and nationally. He has a proven track record of success and we believe he will be a great fit to lead our highly-competitive program to the next level.”
Studd coached St. Lucia in the 2012 Olympic Games as well as his former FGCU swimmer Danielle Beaubrun. It marked his second international coaching stint with St. Lucia after serving as the country’s head coach at the World Championships in Shanghai, China in 2011.
“I am thrilled to be the new head coach at FSU,” said Studd. “It is an amazing opportunity for me professionally and for my family personally. To be in a position to lead the program at such a prestigious University that combines truly outstanding academics and athletics is really a dream come true for me.
“I cannot wait to meet and start working with the team and put my own brand and coaching style in place. When I look at the success of all the teams at FSU, I am so excited for what is possible with our swimming and diving teams. I know we can do great things here and do it the right way.”
Studd was selected to begin the women’s swimming and diving program at FGCU in 2006 after spending eight seasons with the swimming staff at his alma mater Florida Atlantic University (FAU).
An outstanding sprints swimmer at FAU from 1994-98, Studd set several varsity records, served as the men’s team captain and was a National Independent Conference (NIC) champion and two-time Olympic Trials qualifier.
Studd earned a B.S. in Finance from FAU in 1998 and his MBA from the school in 2002. He and his wife Leah have two children together, daughter Sophia (2) and
son Henry, born November 2013.

Florida State University swimming and diving has terminated their contract with their Head Coach, Frank Bradley, who had one year left in his contract with the Seminoles. After taking the job in 2013, Bradley has been the Head Coach of both the men’s and women’s team for the last 3 NCAA seasons.
Over the last 2 seasons, FSU has gone from a top 3 team in the ACC to sitting just inside the top 10. The women earned their highest rankings of the past 5 years with their 3rd place finishes at the ACC Championships in 2012 and 2014. In 2014-15, they fell to 7th before moving down to 9th at ACCs in the 2015-16 season. At the NCAA championships, they improved on their 30th place finish from 2014 with 24th overall in 2015. However, they were unable to place at the 2016 NCAA Championships, having no scoring swimmers or divers.
This season, the women were without NCAA All-American Chelsea Britt, who was a finalist at the 2015 NCAA Championships in both butterfly events. Britt took a red-shirt this year before announcing her intention to transfer out of the ACC. Along with Britt, Gracie Redding and Daniella van den Berg have also made the decision to transfer. Both Redding and van den Berg will make the move to FGCU.
The men’s team has followed a similar pattern, placing 6th at 2015 ACCs and 9th at the 2016 meet. They were consistently in the top 5 in the 3 years prior to that, earning 3rd place at ACCs in 2014. At NCAAs in 2014, they swam to 14th overall. Most recently, they tied with Hawaii for 31st at the 2016 NCAA Championships. Their only swimmer at that meet was Jason Coombs, who announced his retirement following his junior season.
Florida State Director of Athletics Stan Wilcox confirmed today that Frank Bradley will not return for a fourth season as the Seminoles’ Head Swimming Coach in 2016-17.
FSU finished ninth in the ACC in both men’s and women’s swimming and diving this past season. The men’s team went on to finish 31st at the NCAA Championships, while the women’s team did not score at the NCAA meet.
University policy on personnel decisions prevents further comment on the coaching change.
The Athletics Department will move
forward immediately with a national search to fill the position of Head Swimming Coach.

Gators Squeeze Past Noles.
TALLAHASSEE, FL – With alumni on hand, the Florida State swimming and diving teams fell to Florida in the Sunshine Showdown presented by Fresh from Florida, in tight hard-fought battle at the Morcom Aquatics Center on Thursday, 157-143 (women), 170-130 (men).
“We fell short but we really did some awesome things today,” FSU head coach Neal Studd said. “It was our first time competing, but there was a lot of grit. We got beat in some places where we swam great. This was about us getting better. This was an incredible first step and it was an incredible first meet for me.”
The women’s meet started with FSU winning the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:40.56 behind the team of juniors Ariel Barber, Natalie Pierce, senior Lydia Ware and junior Alexi Smith.
The Gators answered with a one-two punch in the 1000 free, however sophomore Michelle Turek picked up her first win as a Seminole, taking the 200 free with a time of 1:49.61.
Pierce won the 100 breast with a time of 1:02.35, while junior Christina Loh followed in second with a 1:03.07.
After surrendering a one-two finish in the 200 fly, the Seminoles picked up some momentum with a sweep in the 50 free as freshman Nika Blank took home the win with a time of 23.34. Smith followed in second (23.39) and Ware was third (23.44).
Following the break, the Seminoles stayed hot in the sprints, posting another sweep in the 100 free as junior Brenna Ruth swam a 51.24, for her first career dual meet win. Blank was second (51.51) and Turek touched in third (51.59).
Florida answered with a one-two finish in the 200 back.
Loh rallied to win 200 breast with a time of 2:16.93, while Pierce grabbed third with a time of 2:17.84.
The Gators went into the final break with a 10-point lead after sweeping the 500 free and winning the 100 fly. Ware was second with a career best time of 55.48 and sophomore Lelia Johnston was third at 56.11.
In diving, freshman Ayla Bonniwell was victorious in her first collegiate meet, scoring 296.40 on 3-meter, while the Seminoles placed second, third and fourth on 1-meter as junior Blaire Mulka led with a score of 274.35. Redshirt junior Alexia Gonzalez returned to the lineup placing third (271.28) and Bonniewell was fourth (253.50).
Florida State made a push in the 400 free relay, winning with the team of Ruth, Turek, Blank and Ware with a final time of 3:23.44, but the deficit too big overcome after the Gators swept the 200 IM.
“Winning relays is huge,” Studd said. “We won some great races, on both sides which was awesome. We had alumni here cheering us on today and they’re proud of what our teams did.”
The men produced five wins and eight second place showings in the 16 events, including a sweep in the 100 free and 3-meter diving.
Senior Jason McCormick won the 100 free with a time of 44.37, just ahead of sophomore Emir Muratovic in second (45.33) and sophomore Kanoa Kaleoaloha was third.
Junior Chad Mylin picked up the first win of the day for the Seminoles in the 50 free, touching with a time of 19.94 while McCormick followed in second at 20.13.
In diving, junior Tyler Roberge dominated both 1-meter and 3-meter, winning 1-meter with a score of 344.18, almost 40 points ahead of second place. Roberge led the 3-meter sweep with a score of 383.40, freshman Aiden Faminoff was second at 326.78 and senior Dylan Grisell placed third at 311.55.
“Somedays you’re a windshield and some days you’re a bug, today Tyler was absolutely the windshield,” FSU head diving coach John Proctor said. “He tweaked a few things over the summer and man it really showed out there. It’s early in our season but I thought our kids did well and competed hard.”
Junior Connor Kalisz won the 200 back leading from start to finish, touching with a time of 1:47.57.

History Made on First Day
December 02, 2016
ATHENS, GA – The Florida State swimming and diving teams made history on the first night of the Georgia Fall Invite at the Gabrielsen Natatorium on Friday. The men’s 200 free relay started the night by punching its ticket to the 2017 NCAA Championships with an automatic qualifying time of 1:17.33 before the women’s 400 medley relay set a new school record with a time of 3:33.43.
The team of senior Jason McCormick, sophomore Kanoa Kaleoaloha, junior Chad Mylin and sophomore Will Pisani grabbed second in the event en route to securing a relay spot at the NCAA Championships for the first time since the 2013-14 season.
McCormick led off with a personal best time of 19.45 while Mylin’s split was the fastest in the field and of his career, clocking a blazing, 18.86.
Juniors Ariel Barber, Natalie Pierce and Tayla Lovemore along with senior Lydia Ware closed out the night by taking down the school record in the 400 medley relay that was set in 2014 by Bianca Spinazzola, Samantha Pochowski, Chelsea Britt and Kaitlyn Dressel at 3:34.02.
Barber led off with a career best time of 54.22 before Pierce (57.91), Lovemore (52.25) and Ware (49.05) followed with theirs. Together, they finished fifth.
“It was just an amazing day of racing,” FSU head coach Neal Studd said. “Today was about a bunch of student-athletes having fun and believing in themselves. I couldn’t be prouder of what they did today.”
In addition to the pair of relays, the Seminoles had 11 performances that made the all-time top 10 list.
Individually, the men started the night with junior Calvin Bryant competing in the top heat of the 500 free, moving up to seventh with a time of 4:23.56.
Sophomore Max Polianski made his debut in the Garnet and Gold, placing 12th in the 200 IM with a time of 1:46.09.
Three Seminoles competed in the championship final as Mylin finished third in the individual 50 free with a time of 19.54 while McCormick followed in fourth at 19.57. Kaleoaloha finished eighth with a final mark of 20.23.
In the B final, sophomore Emir Muratovic set a new career best with a time of 19.98, finishing 10th while Pisani was 12th at 20.08 which was his personal best.
Three of the FSU all-time top 10 performances came in the women’s 200 IM led by sophomore Meg Brown, who won the C final with the third fastest mark with a personal best of 1:58.96. Ware also turned in her best in prelims at 1:59.08, which ranks fifth all-time. She was 13th at finals with a time of 1:59.94.
In addition to Brown and Ware, Lovemore finished 19th, posting a time of 2:00.72, which was good enough for the 10th fastest swim all-time.
Lovemore came back and won the consolation heat of the 50 free, swimming a 22.10, just missing the school record by eight-one hundredths of a second.
“This is one of our best events,” Studd said. “With those times from Jason, Chad and Tayla, we’re optimistic they’ll earn the individual NCAA invite.”
Three Seminoles earned second swims in the 500 free as sophomore Michelle Turek placed 16th with a final time of 4:54.03 after turning in her personal best in prelims of 4:50.16.
Senior Katy Stringfield and Alex Wittman competed in the C final as Stringfield placed 21st with a personal best of 4:51.27 while Wittman finished 24th (4:55.21).
In the women’s 3-meter springboard, freshman Ayla Bonniewell placed seventh with a score of 280.50 while junior Blaire Mulka was 14th at 257.10.
Freshman Aidan Faminoff led the Seminoles on the boards with an eighth place finish on 1-meter with a score of 281.55 while junior Tyler Roberge (267.95) followed in 11th. Senior Dylan Grisell was 16th at 229.80.
“It was great to see this team back on top again,” Studd said. “This was an incredible day and we can’t wait for tomorrow.”
December 03, 2016
ATHENS, GA – The Florida State swimming and diving teams continued to make history on the second day of the Georgia Fall Invite at the Gabrielsen Natatorium.
“It was just another great day for us,” FSU head coach Neal Studd said. “We had some amazing swims across the board. We got a few more NCAA qualifiers and more school records. I couldn’t have asked for a better day.”
The Seminoles set three school records and earned three more NCAA automatic times standards on Saturday as junior Natalie Pierce smashed the school record in the 100 breaststroke preliminary round by over two seconds with a time of 58:37. This puts her second nationally, behind 2016 Olympic Champion Lilly King of Indiana. Pierce placed second in the finals with 59:16.
She broke Sami Pochowski’s mark of 1:00.49 that was set back in 2015.
“We’ve been working on a few things,” Studd said. “But I think the key for her is she’s enjoying herself while she’s competing and having fun.”
Starting off finals, junior Ariel Barber, Pierce, junior Tayla Lovermore, and senior Lydia Ware continued their strong showing from Friday night by setting a new school record in the 200 medley relay. The team swam a mark of 1:36:58, which automatically qualifies them to the 2017 NCAA Championships.
The women’s 200 free relay team of freshman Nika Blank, Ware, Lovemore and junior Alexi Smith were just under the NCAA A standard in the morning time trial, touching with a time of 1:28.97 for another FSU record.
Sophomore Meg Brown swam in the top heat of the 400 IM, placing fifth with a time of 4:11.37 while senior Caroline Neil took 11th at 4:18.87.
Lovemore came back, posting her personal best in the 100 fly, touching with a time of 52.02, which is the second fastest all-time. Ware also scored a career best in prelims of 53.56, but touched in 13th place at finals with a mark of 54.01. Sophomore Leila Johnston followed in 15th (54.58).
Sophomore Michelle Turek was the lone Seminole competing in finals of the 200 free. She placed 18th with a final time of 1:47.74.
In addition to Pierce, junior Christina Loh followed in third with a time of 1:00.47. Loh’s new personal record was also under the previous school record by Pochowski and now ranks her second all-time.
Barber added a win in the B final of the 100 back beating her personal best by over a second swimming a 53.95.
The men’s team started the night off with a runner-up finish in the 200 medley relay behind the team of seniors Stefan Stojmenovic, Jason Coombs, freshman Nate Samson, and junior Chad Mylin finished second at 1:25:63.
Sophomore Max Polinski continued to improve in his first collegiate outing by posting a time of 3:49.48, which is good enough for fourth on FSU’s all-time top 10.
Stojmenovic placed 15th in his first of two individual races on the night, touching with a time of 47.83 in the 100 fly.
Four earned second swims in the 200 free, including sophomores Kanoa Kaleoaloha, Emir Muratovic, senior Jemal Le Grand, and junior Calvin Bryant. Kaleoaloha led the way, tying for 13th at 1:37.48 after swimming a personal best time in prelims of 1:36.88.
Coombs was back to his ways, by swimming a 52.71 finishing fourth in the A heat of the 100 breast. Senior Jason McCormick (54.18), junior Rafa Van Leeuwarde (55.13), and freshman Matt Ankerholz (55.75) finishing 11th, 15th and 16th respectively.
In diving, junior Tyler Roberge led for the men, placing second on 3-meter with a final score of 347.90. Senior Dylan Grisell followed in fifth place (339.50) while freshman Aidan Faminoff was 10th at 319.20.
The women competed on 1-meter, as Ayla Bonniwell led the way with a score of 272.85 for fifth place. Sophomore Cassidy Gebhart placed seventh with
a total of 261.15.
December 04, 2016
ATHENS, GA – The 2016 Georgia Fall Invite came to a close on Sunday night at the Gabrielsen Natatorium, but not before the Florida State swimming and diving teams could write a little more history.
“We’re just very happy with a great weekend of racing,” FSU head coach Neal Studd said. “I couldn’t have asked for a better first semester out of this team. I appreciate their effort and commitment to everything we’ve thrown at them. This weekend was a huge step forward.”
After junior Natalie Pierce set a new school record in the 100 breast on Saturday night, her classmate Christina Loh etched her name on the FSU record books by taking down the oldest swimming mark. Loh first swam a time of 2:12.16 in prelims to erase Emma Dutton’s 2:12.76 that was set in 2004.
However at final, Loh had her work cut out for her as she stood behind the blocks at finals and watched Pierce lower the mark to 2:11.20 after winning the B final.
Swimming in the top heat, she came back even faster touching with a time of 2:10.55, claiming back the record.
“Breaking the 200 breast school record three times today was fun between those two,” Studd added.
Sophomore Meg Brown swam in a pair of two consolation finals on Sunday, winning the 200 back for ninth place with a time of 1:56.31, which was a new personal best. She followed that performance with 10th place showing in the 200 fly, clocking 1:59.03.
In addition to Brown, junior Ariel Barber (2:00.04) and sophomore Fabiana Ingram (2:06.79) swam in the B heat, touching in 15th and 16th respectively.
On the boards, freshman Ayla Bonniwell led the Seminoles once again, scoring 221.70, placing fifth. Junior Blaire Mulka finished in ninth place with a total of 208.50.
Sunday’s finals started with the 1650 free and junior Alex Wittman placed 10th with a time of 16:49.15. Senior Katy Stringfield followed in 13th at 16:58.60 while rookie Manuella Ribas Andrade was 14th (16:59.16). Sophomore Daniella Van den Berg was just behind in 15th with a time of 17:03.26.
The Seminoles closed out the night by posting a time of 3:20.88 in the 400 free relay as senior Lydia Ware led off with a mark of 49.60 after she set a new personal best by winning the C final of the individual at 49.38.
The men’s team was fueled by a big performance from junior Connor Kalisz, who finished third in the 200 back with a new best time of 1:41.73, which was just off the school record of 1:41.11 set by Andy Hodgson back in 2009.
With that time, Kalisz will expect to earn his first-career bid to the NCAA Championships in March.
“Connor’s swim was huge,” Studd said. “It was a big highlight and that should be able to make it to the NCAA meet.”
In addition, senior Jason Coombs also stood out, placing second in the 200 breast with a time of 1:55.27.
Freshman Max Polianski posted another top eight finish, placing seventh in the 200 fly with a time of 1:45.03.
Senior Dylan Grisell took to his specialty, winning platform with a score of 371.35. Junior Tyler Roberge finished third at 337.65 while freshman Aidan Faminoff contributed seventh place points with a score of 273.35.
The Seminoles finished the meet with the 400 free relay, senior Jason McCormick, junior Joseph Plechy along with sophomore Kanoa Kaleoaloha and Emir Muratovic placing fourth at 2:53.46.
Prior to the relay, McCormick was sixth in the 100 free (43.40), while Muratovic finished eighth (43.88) after he swam his career best in prelims of 43.72. Kaleoaloha placed 10th also breaking the 44-second barrier at 43.79 and Plechy clocked a 44.03 after turning in his best performance in prelims at 43.91.
Both teams finished the meet in fifth place, as the women scored a tally of 403 points, while the men amassed 539.5.

the Georgia Invite. “Our mid-year additions have been huge,” Studd said. “They’re swimming fast and I can’t wait to work with them more.” With scores factored in from men’s 3-meter diving that
included both senior Dylan Grisell and junior Tyler Roberge in the final, the Seminoles are in third place through three events with a total of 146.

Junior Chad Mylin first won bronze in the 50 free with a personal best time of 19.39 before splitting 18.66 on the 200 free relay to help the Seminoles take silver.
“I am so proud of these guys,” FSU head coach Neal Studd said. “We swam very well today and it was great to see Chad and the relay breakthrough and get on that podium.”
As a walk-on, Mylin moves up to third on FSU’s all-time list behind Paul Murray (19.07) and Brendon Dedekind (19.17). In addition to Mylin, senior Jason McCormick swam in his third-career ACC Championship final, touching fifth at his best of 19.41, which keeps him fourth all-time.

“These guys work really hard,” Studd said. “I’m just really happy for them because they deserve this honor.”
With silver, the Seminoles end a two-year drought without an ACC relay medal as the last relay to make the podium was in 2014.

“The ACC has had some deep swims in both the men’s and women’s meets,” Studd said. “If you slip up a tenth or two, you’re out. We’ve got to get it done in the
morning and I’m excited to see what we can do tomorrow.”

Carlson Punches Ticket to NCAA Championships.
Freshman Molly Carlson earned a bid to the NCAA Championships on Monday after placing fifth on
3-meters
March 06, 2017
AUBURN, AL – Florida State freshman diver Molly Carlson punched her ticket to the NCAA Championships by ways of a fifth place finish in a very tight 3-meter battle at the Zone B Qualifier on Monday at Auburn.
Carlson picked up right where she left off as the ACC Diving Meet MVP, showing her consistency by scoring over 50 points on nine of her 12 dives.
“Molly is such a gamer,” FSU head diving coach John Proctor said. “She’s used to those big meets and she stepped up and did what she needed to do today. I am very proud of her.”
In prelims, Carlson posted a score of 296.05 for eighth place. The Thunder Bay, Ont. native made adjustments on her misses, improving her second round score to 311.45 for a total of 607.50.
Her score placed her in the middle of the pack of NCAA qualifiers, as just 41.90 total points separated the nine divers.
“She thrives on the competition,” Proctor said. “This is a very competitive field and she loves that stage.”
Carlson will join juniors Natalie Pierce, Christina Loh and Tayla Lovemore along with three FSU relays at the NCAA Championships in Indianapolis, Ind. that will run from March 15-18.
In addition to Carlson, junior Blaire Mulka also dove in the finals of 3-meter, posting a tally of 559.90 for 13th place, just ahead of sophomore Cassidy Gebhart who was 15th at 550.10.
The men competed on 1-meter on Monday as junior Tyler Roberge and senior Dylan Grisell finished ninth and 10th respectively, just outside of the NCAA qualifying mark. However, if Roberge or Grisell should advance in 1-meter or platform, they will be allowed to dive 1-meter at NCAA’s due to finishing in the top 12 of the Zone meet.
“It’s not total heartbreak city for those guys,” Proctor said. “They both are better at events that are still to come, but it’s competitive and we’ll have to be better and put our foot on the gas and go.”
Roberge opened with a prelim round score of 326.05, sitting in seventh place. However, Roberge would have to work out of a hole after missing his first two dives in finals. Refusing to quit, Roberge rallied, scoring 54.60 on his forward 2 ½ somersault pike in the third round.
The Edmonton, Alb. native added 55.90 on his forward 2 ½ somersault 2 free twists before closing out the round with a pair of 60.0’s for a total of 640.15, just over six one-hundredths of a point away from the eighth place, NCAA qualifying diver.
Grisell tallied 311.20 in his opening prelim round for ninth place.
In finals, Grisell scored above 50 points on five of his six dives, improving his second round score by 10 points to 321.00 for a total of 632.20 – just over eight points shy from an NCAA bid.
Freshman Aidan Faminoff also advance to his first
career Zone B final, finishing 17th with a score of 576.75 after scoring 301.00 in prelims.
March 07, 2017
AUBURN, AL – Three more Florida State divers earned bids to the NCAA Championships on Tuesday at the Zone B Qualifier, which is hosted by Auburn.
Junior Tyler Roberge and senior Dylan Grisell will return to the NCAA meet after finishing eighth and ninth respectively in men’s 3-meter and freshman Ayla Bonniwell punched her ticket following a sixth place showing on 1-meter.
“Some days you’re a windshield and some days you’re a bug,” FSU head diving coach John Proctor said. “Today we had three kids qualify for NCAA’s, so we were definitely the windshield.”
Bonniwell started the day off by scoring 270.95 in prelims, advancing to finals in 10th place.
Needing to hold her spot in order to qualify for NCAA’s, Bonniwell improved her score in finals by over 20 points, to 291.1, performing three dives over 50 points including her highest total of 51.25 on her finishing back 1½ somersault 1 ½ twist for a total of 562.05.
Roberge and Grisell battled through 12 dives as places six through 11 were separated by 26 points heading into the final two rounds, with only the top 10 advancing to NCAA’s.
Throughout his 12 dives, Roberge scored seven above 60 points, including his final two when he need it most, posting 63 points on his forward 2 ½ somersault 1 twist pike before finishing on a forward 2 ½ somersault 2 twist pike that scored 69.70. His total of 718.10 placed him eighth, advancing him to his second-career NCAA Championships.
Grisell opened with a round of 352.20 in prelims for ninth place, just behind Roberge.
After three rounds of finals, Grisell moved up to eighth, but after a slight miss on his fourth dive, he dropped back to ninth. With little room for error, Grisell closed out his round with tallies of 58.50 on his reverse 2 ½ somersault pike and 67.50 on his forward 2 ½ somersault 1 twist pike, which was his highest scoring dive of the day.
Both Roberge and Grisell also finished within the top 12 of Monday’s 1-meter competition, therefore will be able to compete in both springboard events at the NCAA Championships that run from March 22-25 in Indianapolis, Ind.
In addition to Bonniwell, rookie Molly Carlson finished 12th on 1-meter with a score of 541.60 after qualifying for the NCAA Championships on 3-meter on Monday. By placing in the top 12, Carlson can add 1-meter to her list.
Bonniwell joins Carlson along with juniors Natalie Pierce, Christina Loh and Tayla Lovemore and three FSU relays at the NCAA Championships that will be held in Indianapolis, Ind. from March 15-18.
Junior Blaire Mulka also advanced to finals of 1-meter, finishing just ahead of Carlson in 11th place with a final score of

From the start Faminoff was on fire, holding in second place for most of prelims, posting a season best score of 384.70.
Faminoff continued his strong showing in finals, scoring over 50 points on four dives, including his best for a total of 70.40 on his inward 3 ½ somersault tuck on his final dive.

Grisell gained momentum after prelims solidifying himself near the top of the leaderboard and stayed there, finishing with a total of 707.30 for fourth place just behind Faminoff.
Roberge used the 5-meter and 7.5 meter platform throughout the day, but was ninth out of prelims with a total of 322.05.
In finals, Roberge was able to match his best score from prelims on his back 2 ½ somersault pike from 7.5 meter, scoring 70.50 in both rounds. He climbed up the ranks, finishing fifth, scoring 685.85.

“This is a tough Zone but our team is really strong,” Proctor said. “Zones its always kind of like getting a Wax – it’s stressful and painful, but when it’s all said and done you’ve worked through the hard part and you show up to NCAA’s feeling silky smooth.”

He also joins Robert Weber, Curt Genders, Phil Boggs, Paul Spray, Terry Horner and Landon Marzullo to score in consecutive NCAAs in any diving event dating back to 1958.
“Anytime you can make history that’s really something special,” FSU head diving coach John Proctor said. “He had an awesome final round and a great career.”
Grisell advanced to the consolation round after scoring a total of 359.45 in prelims. He bounced back from his second round dive (43.50) by scoring each of his remaining four above 50 points, including 73.50 on his final dive – a back 2 ½ somersault 1 ½ twist pike for 12th place.
Minutes later, Grisell stayed hot in finals, opening with a 75-point forward 3 ½ somersault pike, taking over the early lead.
Grisell continued to lead through rounds two and three, however he put down his best dive of the day in the fourth round, scoring 75.90 on his armstand back 3 somersault tuck.
After his fifth dive, which was a back 3 ½ somersault tuck that tallied 62.70, the Toronto, Ont. native extended his lead to 49.50. He added 41.60 on his last dive, for the consolation final win at 389.00.
In addition to Grisell, freshman Aidan Faminoff made his NCAA debut by placing 25th with a score of 309.65 while junior Tyler Roberge followed in 27th at 287.00.
In morning prelims, senior Jason McCormick also put forth his career best time in the 100 free, touching at 43.00 for 27th place in the individual event.
He followed that effort by going faster in the lead off leg of the 400 free relay, splitting 42.98 to end his career as the third fastest Seminole in history.
“I felt like it was a day for the seniors,” FSU head coach Neal Studd said. “Jason was able to break 43 in his last swim ever for FSU. That was awesome. I was excited about Dylan’s performance too.”
Junior Connor Kalisz placed 27th in the 200 back with a mark of 1:42.21 while senior Chad Mylin finished 39th at 44.47 in the 100 free.
Senior Jason Coombs closed out his career by placing 34th at 1:57.07 in the 200 breast.
The team of McCormick, sophomore Kanoa Kaleoaloha, junior Joe Plechy and sophomore Will Pisani swam the fastest time of the season in the 400 free relay, touching with a mark of 2:52.12 for 21st place. It was one-tenth off the school record that was set back in 2009.
“Last year that time placed 11th,” Studd said. “Everyone was much faster this year. Our guys swam lights out on that relay and it was a great way to cap it all off.”
