From the Tallahassee Democrat, September 8, 1967, page 14.

Dr. Don Veller was today named golf coach at Florida State.

Veller, who previously served as the Seminole golf coach (1953-58), will replace Keith Pitchford, who served as interim coach last year. Pitchford had taken the post when Hugh Durham succeeded the late Bud Kennedy as basketball coach.

"We feel very lucky to have a person of Don Veller's capabilities back with us," said Athletic Director Vaughn Mancha. "His success with the team in the past (43 wins and eight losses) is the best indication of his ability."

Since leaving the coaching ranks, Veller has been primarily concerned with setting up the first undergraduate coaching curriculum in the United States, and was recently given the Distinguished Service Award by the Florida High School Coaches Association.

He came to Florida State in 1948 and served as the Seminoles second modern-day football coach, from 1948-52. His teams won 30 of 42 games in that span.

"Getting back into the coaching ranks again is going to be an exciting challenge," said Veller, who is a four-handicapper himself.
