Leading the individual record-busting parade was junior left-fielder Billy Williamson of Palm Harbor. The powerful right handed
swinger hit eight homers, breaking the old mark by two. Williamson slammed out a record 56 hits. The outburst shattered Bob Clem's old mark by 12.
One mark of a power hitter that prevails many times is going down via the strikeout route and Williamson met that fate 29 times this season, another school mark. Carlee Hendrix in 1956 and Neil Martin
in '59 struck out 23 times.
All-America catcher Buddy Teagle set two records. The junior backstop from West Palm Beach slammed 11 doubles, breaking the old mark by two. Teagle also set a school mark of putouts, receiving credit
for 253 during the '62 campaign.
Sophomore shortstop Woody Woodward of Coral Gables set a mark for assists. The outstanding young Seminole had 141 assists for the year, shattering the old record of 90, set in 1955 by Pfil Hunt.
Woodward not only sparkled in the field but the lanky shortstop led the Tribe regulars at the plate with a season record of .365, one point above Williamson's .364 mark. Woody led the Seminoles in
runs (38), triples (5) and RBIs (33). Woodward and Williamson each had 94 total bases. Lefthander Ray McShane was the top winner for the mound staff. The senior co-captain had 6-3 record.
The Tribe smashed eight team records. They slammed out the most hits (388), including 66 doubles and 30 home runs, all school marks. The Seminoles drove in 199 runs for a school mark, and they stole
71 bases for another record.
Defensively the Seminoles broke a record by executing 36 double plays. On the dimmer side, the Tribe lost more games (14) than in any previous season and allowed their opponents more runs (221).

OMAHA, NE - Florida State's baseball team is continuing its upset binge in the College World Series and tonight goes against Ithaca, a team with giant-killing tendencies.
The Seminoles, who got past Florida and Wake Forest in their District 3 playoffs, dumped No. 1 ranked Santa Clara, 5-1, in last night's opening round.
Ithaca, smallest school in the NCAA tournament, upset Missouri 5-1, and ran its perfect record to 18-0.
Florida State had to beat Santa Clara's celebrated righthander, Bob Garibaldi, to gain a berth in the winners' bracket along with Ithaca, Michigan and Holy Cross.
Larry Hawkins and Tom Davis combined in a three-hitter to beat the California team, filled with sluggers.
They handled the sluggers without a hit - but Hawkins didn't get Garibaldi out until the Florida State hitters chased him out and to the showers in the seventh.
Garibaldi, a .162 batsman, got all three of Santa Clara's hits. His 360-foot homer in the fifth created a 1-1 tie that the Seminoles snapped with two runs in the fifth.
Hawkins walked seven and finally was yanked by Coach Danny Litwhiler in the eighth. He had escaped from a bases-loaded jam in the seventh and in the eighth he filled the bases again with one out on two walks and a hit batter.
But Davis came on and struck out a pinch hitter for the second out. Then he got out of the inning by retiring the next batter on a grounder.
Davis also had to work out of a jam in the ninth. He walked two men with one out.
But he got the next two batters on fly balls for Florida State's first victory in three NCAA championship games.
The Seminoles scored one in the fourth on successive singles by Al Beccaccio, Woody Woodward and Bill Williamson. All three were line drives and Beccaccio's was the first hit off Garibaldi, who struck out nine in his 6 1-3 innings.
Garibaldi's homer tied it in the fifth.
The Seminoles snapped the tie with two out in the sixth. Buddy Teagle singled and advanced to third on Hal Mangin's double. George Rountree scored Teagle on a high-bounding single to the second baseman.
Mangin and Rountree then attempted to execute a double steal. Mangin was caught at the plate, but dislodged the ball from catcher Ron Cook's glove for the run.
Florida State added two insurance tallies in the eighth. Mike Augustine doubled and Bob Madison scored him with a single. Madison promptly stole second and came around on two wild pitches by Garibaldi.
Then came the dramatics by Hawkins and finally Davis. The Florida State pitchers forced Santa Clara to leave eight runners stranded over the last three innings.

OMAHA, NE - Florida State is the upset king of college baseball.
First the Seminoles toppled first-ranked Florida en route to the College World Series. Then they knocked off Santa Clara, new occupants of the No. 1 ranking, in the first round of the collegiate classic and last night in the second round, Florida State upended Ithaca - the only team that made it to the NCAA championships with a perfect record - by a narrow 5-4 count.
The Seminoles shook off a grandslam home run in the eighth inning that wiped out their 4-0 lead by scoring the winning run in the ninth on Mike Augustine's sacrifice fly.
Tonight Florida State faces another giant-killing task in a game against Michigan. The Seminoles and Wolverines are the only unbeaten teams left in the double-elimination tournament.
Gritty Tom Davis, shaken by the grandslammer by Don Fazio, picked up the victory that ended Ithaca's winning streak at 18 games.
He relieved Allen Thomas in the eighth after Ithaca got two runners on base on walks. Davis walked the bases full before Fazio touched him with his liner that just cleared the left field wall. A single followed, but Davis got the final two outs in the eighth and then retired Ithaca in order in the ninth.
It was Davis' second clutch relief performance in the World Series. Monday he saved the 5-1 victory over Santa Clara.
Hal Mangin led Florida State's attack, getting two of the Seminoles six hits and scoring three of their runs. He drove in another run with a triple. Bill Williamson also had two hits.
Florida State went ahead 2-0 in the third. Mangin led off with a single and got around to third on an infield out and an error. He scored on another error. AL Beccaccio drove in the second run with a single.
The Seminoles added two runs in the third. Williamson led off with a double to left and scored on a tremendous triple by Mangin that rolled to the wall in left center. He scored on a passed ball.
Thomas, meanwhile, appeared invincible after he allowed two singles in the first. The tall righthander didn't give up another hit until the seventh. At one stage he retired 15 straight batters.
He eased out of a jam in the seventh. But when he walked two batters in the eighth and got one ball on the next batter, coach Danny Litwhiler brought in Davis.
Davis completed the walk that filled the bases and Fazio struck his homer.
In the ninth, Mangin led off with a walk and George Rountree also walked. Davis bunted and the throw to third attempting to catch Mangin was late. Augustine then lofted a soft fly to medium left field near the foul line and Mangin scooted in after the catch with the run that continued Florida State's amazing surge.

OMAHA, NE - Florida State's upset spree ran out in the College World Series last night but the Seminoles still can become national collegiate baseball champions.
Danny Litwhiler's game team led Michigan 4-0 and 7-3 before losing their first tournament game 10-7 last night.
Tonight in the double-elimination championship, the Seminoles meet Santa Clara, the No. 1-ranked team nationally and the club they beat 5-1 Monday in the opening round.
Michigan now is the only team without a loss in the tourney.
All the others - Florida State, Texas and Santa Clara - have 2-1 records and can win if Michigan's dramatic club falters.
Florida State looked in the first few innings as if it was going to make easy work of Michigan and continue its string of upsets of the nations's high-ranked teams. The Wolverines were rated behind Santa Clara in the collegiate poll.
But five error proved fatal. The Seminoles had made only two bobbles in their two previous games here. Though there were some bright plays - including the nabbing of three Michigan runners at the plate - they were not enough to offset the errors, which included some unlisted mental ones.
The Seminoles cracked out six hits - it would have been seven straight if Bill Williamson hadn't failed to touch second base on Buddy Teagle's liner to left - at the start of the second.
Woody Woodward, Williamson, Hal Mangin, George Rountree, Ray McShane and Mike Augustine contributed in the barrage that gave the Seminoles the seemingly healthy four-run bulge.
Even in the fourth when Michigan got three runs on pitcher Dave Roebuck's homer, the Seminoles didn't fold.
They got the three runs right back in the bottom of the inning, collecting consecutive hits by Rountree, McShane, Augustine and Bob Madison.
But thereafter Florida State could get only two more hits.
Both came in the sixth with none out. They were third-straight singles by McShane and Augustine. But when Madison drilled a hot grounder toward right field, second baseman Joe Jones darted to his left and turned the apparent single into a force out. The play kept Florida State from adding to its lead.
After Roebuck's homer off McShane, Michigan did nothing until the sixth. The the Wolverines scored twice, cutting Florida State's lead to 7-5.
Michigan loaded the bases on two singles and a walk with none out in the seventh and Florida State cut down two runners at the plate. But the next batter, Harvey Chapman, slashed a single to center for two runs, tying the score, 7-7.
Tommy Davis, with a victory and a save already in the series, got the Wolverines out. But in the eighth, the Wolverines scored one run after Ron Tate doubled for his third hit and moved to third as Jim Steckley reached first on a fielder's choice.
Steckley broke for second as Davis, who suffers from a severe knee ailment, started his windup. The pitcher backed off the mound in the middle of his windup for a balk, scoring Tate.
Michigan eased out of a Florida State threat in the eighth by catching a runner at third with two on and one out on a bunt. The Wolverines then got two insurance tallies off Butch Ferrar in the ninth.

OMAHA, NE - Florida State's defense sprung a huge leak - and that more than anything knocked the Seminoles out of the College World Series.
Eight errors in last night's 11-6 elimination loss to Santa Clara, following five miscues in the 10-7 first tourney defeat by Michigan, were just too much for Florida State to overcome.
The Seminoles fell apart in the second inning against Santa Clara and they never could get back in the game despite a gritty four-run rally in the seventh.
They committed four errors in the fatal second and Santa Clara cashed them in for five runs.
Two more runs came in on two more errors in the fourth as Santa Clara upped its lead to 7-2. Another unearned run was scored on an error in the fifth.
All told, Santa Clara scored eight unearned runs.
Santa Clara got 11 hits, only one more than the Seminoles. But those errors were killers.
By the time the Seminoles got started, they trailed 11-2. It was much too late.
They scored once in the first before Santa Clara could get an out. Mike Augustine led off with a single and Bob Madison drove him in with a ringing triple, first of three runs batted in.
After Santa Clara got its five gift runs in the second, Woody Woodward cracked the first Florida State home run of its four-game series. The lanky shortstop, dropped to eighth in the batting order due to a sore left shoulder, whacked the ball on the line 350 feet over the left field fence.
But that was the last Florida State hit till the sixth when Al Beccaccio singled for the first of his three straight hits. But Beccaccio didn't score.
The Seminoles made their last gasp bid - and it was far short - in the seventh. They drove out starter Mark Amrien and reliever Dan Korbel. Four runs were in before Santa Clara called on ace Bob Garibaldi to turn back the comeback.
Garibaldi came in with the bases loaded and two outs. He got George Rountree on an infield out and pitched one hit ball over the final two innings.
Coach Danny Litwhiler sent six pitchers into the game with the loss going to starter Jack Ross, who pitched 1 1-3 innings. Butch Ferrar, Tom Davis, Frank Echols, Larry Hawkins and finally second baseman Beccaccio followed Ross to the mound.
Rountree started off the four-run seventh with a single and Woodward followed with a walk. Amrien got the next two batters. But then Madison drove in the two runners with his double off the left field fence.
Beccaccio tripled over the center fielder's head, scoring Madison, and came in himself when Korbel, pitching to his first batter, uncorked a wild pitch.
Bill Williamson and Buddy Teagle singled and Korbel was lifted after his first three pitches to Hal Mangin were balls. Garibaldi came in and completed the walk and Florida State had the bases loaded.
But Rountree, 10th batter in the inning, slapped a sharp shot back at Garibaldi. The pitcher deflected it to second base and Rountree was tossed out.
Woodward walked to lead off the eighth, but never got past first.
Beccaccio's single opened the ninth. But Williamson struck out and Garibaldi forced Teagle to bounce into a game-ending double play.
Teagle, named earlier in the day to the All-American team at Catcher, made three throwing errors.
