Member of the FSU Hall of Fame |
Elected into the FSU Hall of Fame in 2013 |
Lakeland, Florida native Cindy Schofield became the first soccer player in Florida State history to be inducted into the Hall of Fame. Schofield starred for the Seminoles from 1999-2002 playing a
large role in elevating the program from its inception to the national power that it has become. Schofield, a forward from Jenkins High, was a four-year letterwinner and three-year starter for the Seminoles who earned the school's first-ever NCAA berth during her sophomore season (2000). She was named first team All-ACC as a junior and senior in the best collegiate soccer conference in the country, and FSU recorded its first win in an ACC tournament game during her career. Schofield scored 42 points on 17 goals and eight assists as a junior (2001) which was the second most points ever scored in a season by a Seminole when she was inducted in 2013. She is also second on the Florida State career records list for goals scored with 40 and points scored with 102. Cindy graduated
in 2003 and then completed her master's in sports administration at Florida State. She spent several years coaching girls soccer at state powerhouse Tampa Prep. Schofield was recently inducted into
the Polk County Sports Hall of Fame. Selected as a Champion Beyond the Game in 2008 Cindy Schofield came to Florida State from Lakeland as the all-time leading goal scorer in
Florida high school history for women's soccer. During her four year rein as forward for the Seminole Girls she became the most prolific offensive player in Florida State University's NCAA Tournament
history having achieved the all-time record for goals, points, assists, shots and game-winning goals. During her inaugural season Cindy led all freshmen in goals and points and tied for first among
freshman in game appearances with eighteen. Her determination and hard work continued and in 2001 Cindy was at the peak of her college career having scored 17 goals, racked up 42 points and achieved
records and awards that no other FSU player had ever done. Cindy accredited her success to the confidence she gained and to the supporting cast of the Seminole Women's Soccer Team. Cindy Schofield
became the single most recognized athlete in program history and put a face on a team that was in the middle of rising to national prominence. She was named a first-team All-ACC selection and was also
named an honorable mention All-American Athlete. After having received her Bachelor's degree in Sport Management in 2003 and her Master's degree in Sport Administration in 2004 Cindy graduated from
Florida State and continued her career in soccer as a coach. Cindy Schofield has continued to allocate her talent through coaching and training positions with the HC United Youth Soccer Club, youth
recreational programs and numerous soccer camps. In 2005 Cindy Schofield became a staff coach for the Olympic Development Program for the Florida Youth Soccer Association and is currently the
assistant Varsity Girls Soccer Coach for the Tampa Preparatory School which became the 2008 Florida High School 2A State Champions. |
