Terry Carlisle was the head coach for the Men's Swimming and Diving team
from 1974 to 1977. Obituary for Terrell Lee Carlisle Published by the Sun-Sentinel on Feb. 6, 2022. Beloved husband, father, grandfather, Terry (Terrell Lee) Carlisle passed away on January 21, 2022 at his home in Sonoma, CA of complications following a stroke. He was 87 years old. Born in Indianapolis to Dorothy Hook and Russell Clift, he grew up in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida after his mother's marriage to his adoptive father Malcolm Carlisle. He was grandson of Florence and John A. Hook, founder of Hook Drugs of Indiana. Terry graduated from Yale University in 1955 and the University of Tennessee, Knoxville in 1973 with a master's degree. He was an Eagle Scout and held many swimming records. As a coach, Terry had high school state championships in Florida, many national level swimmers, U.S. champions and two Olympians. He was faculty member and coach at Ft. Lauderdale High School, St. Andrews School, Boca Raton, Florida, The Bolles School, Jacksonville, Florida; head swimming coach at University of Cinicinnati, Florida State University and the University of Tennessee, women's swimming. Terry is survived by his wife of 55 years, Susan; daughters Kimberly, Shelley and Tylla; grandchildren Kianna, Reed Hallee, Ben, Josh and Axel: sister, Sandy Jinks; and his beloved dog, Stella.
Terry was predeceased by his parents Dorothy and Malcolm, and brothers Jack
and Rusty. |
