Oct 13, 2007, page 23. Richard "Dick" Lee Whitmire, 66, died Friday,
October 12, 2007, in Tallahassee, Florida.
He was born September 29,
1941, in Spartanburg, S.C., and moved to Tallahassee in 1954. He attended
Florida State University, where he was on the golf team and graduated in
1963. He worked for the State of Florida in various departments until
finally retiring from the Department of Transportation after 30 years of
service in 1999. Dick was a proficient golfer who played for many years at
Capital City Country Club. He was a zealous FSU fan, having held season
tickets for both football and basketball for many years. He served as
president of the FSU Quarterback Club from 1982-1983.
He is survived by
his loving wife, Mary Cline Whitmire, and son, Lee Whitmire. Other
survivors include brothers William K. Whitmire (wife Merrilee) of Ocoee,
Fla., and James Ronald Whitmire of Havana, Fla.; sister, Vicki Brand
(husband David) of Tallahassee; nephews, Ronnie Whitmire of Tallahassee and
Billy Whitmire of Ocoee, Fla.; niece, Amber Floyd (husband Lyle) of
Tallahassee; stepchildren, Odis "Scooter" Kendrick (wife Tricia) of
Houston, Texas, and Kit Castaldo (husband Scott) of Atlanta, Ga.; and
grandchildren, Jade, Noah, Logan and Caitlyn.
