Donald W. Monk, 56, of Austin passed away peacefully on November 14, 1997 after a courageous battle with cancer.

Born on January 16, 1941 in Mansfield, Ohio, he was the son of Floyd Harold and Kathryn (McCullough) Monk.

He graduated from Florida State University where he attended on a tennis scholarship. Donald then joined the Navy where he flew F-4's in the Vietnam War. He was decorated 25 times while in Vietnam; his decorations include the Distinguished Flying Cross Medal and the Navy Commendation Medal. After his tour of duty in the Navy, Mr. Monk was employed for over 25 years in the truck loading business.

Donald W. Monk is survived by his wife of 34 years, Margaret; son and daughter-in-law, Bryan and Suzanne Monk of Kingwood, Texas; daughter and son-in-law, Allison and Mike Minton of Austin, Texas; grandchildren, Taylor and Travis Monk; his mother, Kathryn Monk of Sarasota, FLorida; brother-in=law, Richard Rees and his wife Laurie of Kerrville, Texas.
