Wayne Jaeger, age
74, of Lake Oswego, died after a battle with cancer.
Raised in Haines
City, Fla., Wayne attended Florida State University (1961-66). He completed
his doctorate in organic chemistry at Purdue University (1961-71) and
post-doctoral work at Georgia Institute of Technology (1971-73). Wayne
developed dyes and whiteners at Crompton & Knowles Corporation in Reading,
Pa. (1973-80), and then moved to Oregon in 1980 to work for the new color
printing division of Tektronix (later purchased by Xerox) as the first
research chemist on the team developing the solid inks, which, by the time
he retired in 2006, had generated a billion dollars in sales.
Wayne
produced 30 U.S. patents, won the Vollum Award for Engineering Excellence
(Tektronix, 1995), and became a Research Fellow (Xerox, 2001). After his
retirement, he devoted himself to family and playing bridge with friends.
Wayne is survived by his children, Jennifer and Sara Jaeger; his
grandchildren, William and Nora Myers; his wife, Barbara; and his siblings,
Lynette Whaley, Ralph Jaeger and Mark Jaeger. He was preceded in death by
his parents, Charles William and Verona Madele (Helms) Jaeger; and his
sister, Elaine Reynolds.
