Obituary for Steve Long From the Tallahassee Democrat, August 10, 1864, page 9. Steve Long Dies In Auto Accident. Steve Long, 25, son of Mr. and Mrs. Mike Long of Tallahassee, was killed early Sunday in an auto accident near Glenville, N.C. His father is Florida State University track coach. Long was a passenger in a car driven by Skip Draper of Tallahassee, who was hospitalized with facial cuts and bruises. His injuries were believed not serious. The auto reportedly crashed into a tree after leaving the highway on a curve. Draper and Curtis Long, Steve's brother, had gone to Glenville to visit young Long who had been there since May in connection with his real estate holdings. He had been connected with the Tallahassee Realty Co. Funeral services were tentatively set for Wednesday at Culley's Funeral Home with burial in Roslawn Cemetery. The Rev. Julius Cox, Lafayette Presbyterian Church, will officiate. Surviving in addition to the parents and three brothers, Terry, Curtis and Jimmy; one sister, Susan; grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. V. A. Long of St. Petersburg, and Mr. and Mrs. H. B. Creeger of Bradenton, and an aunt and uncle, Mr. and Mrs. Verdeen Rath of Tallahassee. The family has
requested that those who desire make contributions to a special Steve Long
Scholarship fund at Florida State University. The FSU athletic department
will handle the fund. |
