H. Nye, devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother and Christian, passed
away in his home surrounded by his loved ones at the age of 83. Born in
Philadelphia, PA to Rev. Charles & Myrtle Nye, who preceded him in death
along with his sister, Virginia Nye Visser of Grand Rapids, MI.
Charlie
ran track, played football and basketball at Boone High School in Orlando,
Florida. After graduating he attended Florida State on a duel football and
track scholarship. There he met the love of his life, Rebecca Taylor. They
were married May 30, 1959. After graduating with a degree in criminal
justice, he worked for Pinkerton Detective Agency in Birmingham, New
Orleans and New York City. Charlie resigned as the youngest VP to start his
own security business. He established NYCO Security in 1972 in Pensacola,
FL, where he built the business for 30 years before retiring in 2001.
Charlie enjoyed many social and civic activities: President of Woodham High
School Quarterback Club (Blue Tide of Titan Pride). Coach of the Ensley
Chief's Football Team, winning numerous championships with "Nye's Guys."
Coach of the Key Ford Lady Mustangs, having won two Women's Major Open
National Championships (the Lady Stangs). Charlie is in the Boone High
School Hall of Fame and enjoyed an outstanding track career at FSU. A
Deacon and humble servant for East Brent Baptist Church. A Past President,
Founding member and Paul Harris Fellow of Pensacola North Rotary. Enjoyed
golfing with his buddies "but never on Sunday."
Charlie loved his
family, helping others and taking care of loved ones. The affect of his
caring will be felt for generations to come.
Charlie is survived by his
wife Rebecca, son Charles T. (Carol Ann) Nye and granddaughter Danielle of
Pansacola, FL, daughter Brenda (Pete) Pena of Pensacola, FL and
granddaughter Rebecca Ana of New York City, sister Rachel (Errol) Scogin,
of Knoxville, TN, as well as many nieces, nephews and chosen family.
