Berry Ryan Ray Obituary. Published by findagrave.com Berry Ryan Ray, 83, of Hendersonville, NC passed away peacefully February 28, 2018. He was born in Daytona Beach, Florida, a son of the late Berry Franklin Ray and Freda Bickerstaff Ray Clark. His stepfather was the late Fred Clark. He grew up in Daytona Beach and graduated from Mainland Senior High School in 1952 and Florida State University in 1958. He was a member of the Sigma Nu Fraternity, Alpha Kappa Psi Business Fraternity, Beta Alphi Chi, an honorary accounting society and a member of the FSU Swim Team. He worked in Washington DC for the FBI from 1952 to 1953. He served in the US Army from 1953 to 1955, serving one year in Japan. He lived in Miami, Florida from 1958-1968, where he was on the YMCA Board of Management for the North Dade Branch and a member of the Indian Guide Program. He lived in Coral Springs, Florida from 1968 to 1977, where he was one of the original members of the Coral Springs Volunteer Fire Department and eventually served as Assistant Chief. He served on the Coral Springs Zoning Board, the Industrial Board and The Board of Supervisors for the North Springs Improvement District. He coached Kroury League Baseball for three years and played on the first organized men's softball team. He was the co-founder and president of the first square dance club - the Covered Bridge Squares. He resided in Hendersonville, North Carolina since 1977 where he was co-founder of the Stonehearth Inn in Bat Cave. He served as Vice President of the Edneyville High School A.P.P.L.E.S. Club and treasurer of the Edneyville United Methodist Church. He founded Apple Country Reality in Edneyville, NC. An avid golfer, he was a member of the Crooked Creek Golf Club, the Dogfighter's Golf Association and in 2012 was the Apple Jack Golf Tournament Champion in the Super Senior Division. He served as treasurer and past president of the Saddlebrook Homeowners Association. He is a member of Pinecrest Presbyterian Church in Flat Rock. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters; Gloria Bethel and Betty Scholz, a brother, James Franklin Ray and his loving wife of 55 years Sandra Barrows Ray. He is survived by one son, Berry Richard Ray and his
wife Erin of Rutherfordton, NC; two daughters, Lesley Anne Ray Coons and
her husband Richard of Wesley Chapel, Fl and Jennifer Lyn Ray of
Hendersonville, NC; four grandchildren, Matthew Ryan Ray, Mary Rachel Ray,
Brent Harrison Coons and Shane Tucker Coons; one great grandson, Miles
Anthony Coons; one great granddaughter, Harper Joy Coons and many nieces
and nephews. |
