Obituary for Larry Beaty
Published in Orlando Sentinel from November 6 to November 7, 2013

Larry Beaty of Orlando, passed away on the 4th day of November, 2013. He was born in Belmont, North Carolina, on April 9th, 1933, to the late Forrest Clark and Mary Elizabeth Hedrick Beaty. The family moved to Lake Worth in 1944. After graduating from Lake Worth High School in 1951, he attended Florida State University on a swimming and diving scholarship. In 1954, Larry interrupted his college education to serve in the army and was stationed in Orleans, France. Upon his discharge in 1956, he returned to F.S.U. and graduated in January 1958. Larry left Tallahassee to work as a pharmaceutical representative in Macon, GA; however, he returned to F.S.U. in the spring of 1959 to take graduate courses. That fall he met his future wife, Jane Reid Newsom, in a math class and his path took a different direction. After Jane graduated in August, they were married September 3rd, 1960, and lived in their home on Mills Ave. in Orlando, Florida for most of their 53 blessed years of married life. Larry formed his own insurance agency in 1972 and specialized in horticultural properties representing Florists' Mutual Insurance Company of Edwardsville, IL. He was also an associate of J. Rolfe Davis Insurance Agency, Inc. He retired in 1995. Larry was a Life Loyal Sigma Chi, past member of the Orlando Jaycees and Kiwanis Club, life member of the Citrus Club, a member of the Country Club of Orlando and a member of President's Club of F.S.U. He served as an usher, a member of the Chapter, and on the Endowment Committee of the Cathedral Church of St. Luke. Larry was an ardent reader and historian, especially studying Lewis & Clark, the Civil War, and World War II. He traveled to many points of interest in these areas both in the U.S. and abroad. Larry loved retirement - reading, traveling, his golf buddies, Friday lunch group at Shannon's, birding, working with the IDignity program and being with his children and grandchildren. He is survived by his loving wife, Jane, his deeply caring children, Clinton Branch Beaty, and his wife M.K. and Kathryn Elizabeth Beaty Cameron and her husband Cannon; his adored grandchildren, Cooper Branch and Conner Blythe Beaty and Caroline Reid and Claire Elizabeth Cameron. Larry is also survived by his sister, Mary Elizabeth Baldridge, 6 nieces and 7 nephews. He is predeceased by his brother, Forest Clark Beaty, Jr.
