| Decathlete from Marianna...one-year letterman...first great track and field athlete at FSU...graduated from high school in 1942 and entered the Navy for three years, after the war ended he entered UF and played football and ran track where he was a star in sprints and hurdles...he married and transferred to FSU so he could also work on field events to prepare for the decathlon; if he had remained at UF he would have been limited in the events in which he could have competed...scored 142.25 points during the season...set school records in the long jump (21-11.75 6.70m), 120-Yard High Hurdles (15.1), 100-Yard Dash (10.0), 220-Yard Low Hurdles (24.5), 220-Yard Dash (22.2), the Decathlon (6417 pts), 100-Meter Dash (11.2), 400-Meter Dash (50.9), 110-Meter High Hurdles (15.9) and 1500-Meter Run (4:49.0)...died in 1987. |
