On Friday, February first, Sidney H. (Sid/Sonny)
Stringer, Jr., of Monticello, went to be with his Lord. Born November 3,
1928 at Archbold Hospital, the only child of Sidney H. Stringer and Augusta
(Gussie) Strickland Stringer, he survived by his wife of thirty years,
Carolyn Fairchild Streinger, three sons, Sidney III (Tammy) of
Crawfordville, Florida, Julian Wade (Lucille) of Sopchoppy, Florida, and
Robert (Jeannie) of Houston, Missouri, one daughter, Melissa Mochette of
Tuscaloosa, Alabama, and his beloved pets, Gracie and Gus. He had five
grandchildren: Sidney H. Stringer IV (Stephanie) of Port Orange, Florida,
Joshua Stringer (Samantha) of Springfield, Missouri, Justin Stringer of St.
Peters, Missouri, Douglas Wade Stringer (Marie) of Boynton Beach, Florida,
and Kyleigh Stringer of Tucson, Arizona. He was blessed with six
great-grandchildren, Sidney H. Stringer V and Stella Stringer, Declan and
Bodie Stringer, and Julian and Brooklyn Stringer.
Sid attended Young
Harris Academy & High School in Young Harris, Georgia, graduating in 1947.
He attended Gordon Military School, Barnesville, Georgia, and Florida State
University in Tallahassee, Florida. He served in the United States Air
Force during the Korean Conflict and later the Army Reserve. Following his
military service, he returned to college attending Florida A&M University
where he earned his degree in Pharmacy. He had a full and varied career in
pharmacy beginning at Stringer Seed & Drugs in Thomasville, Georgia and
retiring in 1993 as the Pharmacy Manager for Florida State University's
Thagard Student Health Center.
Still very active he went on to earn his
US Coast Guard Captain License and Master Captain License. Always an avid
outdoorsman, hunter, and fisherman, one of his many retirement pleasures
was taking charter parties flats fishing and bringing in the biggest
catch.
Sid was a Christian and an active member of Miccosukee United
Methodist Church with strong ties to Beth Page Methodist Church and
Springhill Church, both in Thomas County Georgia.
