Home, St. Augustine, Fla. Samuel Grady Oren, 93, passed away peacefully
at home on January 11, 2022, in St Augustine, FL. He was born in Tampa, FL
to Fredrick V and Annie Chapman Oren. He attended Plant High School, then
served two years in the Navy during WWII where he was stationed in Panama.
Grady graduated from Florida State University in 1951 with a Bachelor of
Science in Business Administration. He was on the track and field team, a
founding brother of the Sigma Nu chapter at FSU and enjoyed all the
opportunities that college life had to offer.
Grady married the love of
his life, Margery Christ, in 1952 in Richmond Virginia. His career in
Institutional Sales with IBM took them many places including Philadelphia,
New York, Tampa, and Jacksonville where they made lifelong friends in every
city along the way. In 1970, Grady changed careers to further his interest
in the financial markets. He worked as an Investment Advisor with
Prudential Bache Securities and was on the management team that opened the
St Augustine office. Grady enjoyed his work, colleagues, and clients.
Over the years, Grady was active in his church, St. Johns Cathedral, and
was involved in many local civic organizations. He enjoyed all sports,
especially golf, FSU football, and the NY Yankees. After his retirement, he
and his beloved Margery traveled and explored, but he was most content
being at home with family and friends.
Grady is survived by his
children, Whitney Anne Oren, Samuel Grady Oren Jr. (Chip), and Courtney
Oren Scherer; and his grandchildren, Grady Oren, Case Scherer, and Riley
Scherer. He was preceded in death by his wife, Margery and his 6
siblings.
