Obituary for Max Bayard

Max M. Bayard Jr., 83, of Ponce Inlet, formerly of Sarasota, died June 23, 2009.

Survivors include his wife, Betty; a son, Max M. III; a daughter, Patricia Reich; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Mr. Bayard was born in Chicago. He lived in Sarasota for 45 years and considered it his home. He taught in Sarasota schools in the 1950s and 60s.

Mr. Bayard moved to Ponce Inlet from the Florida Keys in September 2000. He held bachelor's and master's degrees from Florida State University and taught in Alaska and Florida.

Mr. Bayard was a former special agent of the Federal Bureau of Investigation and a member of Mensa. He was an active member of the Daytona Metropolitan Bridge Club and a Life Master in the American Contract Bridge League. He served on the carrier CVE-61 Manila Bay in the South Pacific during World War II.
