Feb 2015, page A5. Leon Palmer Darsey, 90, of Punta Gorda, Fla., passed
away peacefully Tuesday, Feb. 10, 2015, in Lakeland, Fla.
He was born
March 4, 1924, in Quincy, Fla., to Raymond and Julia Darsey.
After
graduating from Quincy High School, Mr. Darsey served in the U.S. Navy
during World War II and the Korean War. He graduated from the University of
Florida in 1951, with a bachelor’s degree in education. Mr. Darsey worked
for the Charlotte County, Fla., schools for 33 years, teaching Industrial
Arts for 12 years and working in school administration for 21 years. His
hobby was woodworking, and throughout his life he enjoyed spending time
outdoors, fishing, hunting and camping. He taught Sunday School and served
as a deacon at First Baptist Church of Punta Gorda for many years.
Mr.
Darsey moved to Punta Gorda in 1953 with his wife Gertrude, where they
worked and raised four children.
He is survived by his children, Jan
(Tim) Shields, Suzanne (Larry) Kuhn, Steve (Debbie) Darsey and Pamela
(John) Joiner; and 10 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his loving
wives, Gertrude Irby Darsey, in 1980, Anna Laura Smith Darsey and Dorothy
Snyder Darsey; and four siblings. He will be truly missed by his family and
many friends he made during his life at school, work and church.
