James Vernon Boyd DeLoach Obituary

Beach News-Journal on 3 May 2022. James Vernon Boyd DeLoach died at age
97 on April 26, 2022. He was born April 8, 1925 in New Smyrna Beach,
Florida, to Stewart Lester and Jimmie Violet Moody DeLoach.
He is
preceded in death by his wife of sixty-four years, Barbara Southard
DeLoach. Survived by two children, Debbie (Sid) Peterson and Robin (Gary)
Bates, six grandchildren, Trey (Jennifer) Peterson, Christian Peterson,
Jamie (Victoria) Peterson, Matthew (Erin) Peterson, Kevin (Mary) Bates,
Cammie Bates, two step grandchildren, Chris Bates and Kellie Bates, ten
great grandchildren and six step great grandchildren. Boyd had nine
brothers and sisters and may nieces and nephews.
He enlisted in the army
after high school and served in WW2. He went to Florida State University on
the GI bill, and received his law degree from the University of Florida. He
married Barbara Southard in 1951. Boyd worked for the FBI after law school
under J. Edgar Hoover. He returned to New Smyrna Beach and opened his law
practice on Canal Street. He practiced law for almost 70 years. The office
continues under his grandsons Jamie and Matthew. Boyd served as New Smyrna
Beach Municipal Judge, was on the Volusia County School Board for 25 years
and chairman of the school board during desegregation.
