Clyde was
born and grew up in White Springs (Hamilton County) FL son of Clyde Sr. and
Gladys Wiggins; he lived there until 1945 when he enlisted in the Army out
of high school at the age of 17. A veteran of WWII and the Korean War he
served in the U.S. and European Theater, returning to White Springs at the
end of his enlistment. Clyde learned to fly and earned his pilots license
before enrolling at FSU in the first co-ed class of 1947. A Seminole from
the beginning, he was the manager of FSU's first baseball team and was a
member of the first circus. At the beginning of the Korean War he
reenlisted in the Army and was sent to Germany.
Clyde married Shirley
Spencer from Live Oak, FL, on April 26, 1953 at First Baptist Church in
Tallahassee. They joined John Wesley United Methodist Church in 1961 where
they remained members and raised their family. Clyde is a retired Deputy
Clerk of the Leon County Clerk of the Circuit Court.
He is survived by
his wife of 61 years, Shirley Wiggins "Sweetheart", four children: Janet
McClellan, Lisa Dove (Jep), Clyde G. Wiggins III (Debbie) all of
Tallahassee, and Mary Andrews (Rob) of Crawfordville, FL. Six
grandchildren: Ray McClellan, Chad McClellan, Sarah Andrews, Dylan Andrews,
Holly Wiggins, and Brittany Wiggins. One sister, Frances Underwood, of

His wife Shirley has said many times the secret to
their long and happy marriage was that they never took each other for
granted. He loved all of us and set the best example of what a father and
husband should be.
