Dean Trefzer Roberts, 92, passed away peacefully on February 25, 2021 in Jacksonville, Florida. Dean, a Jacksonville native, was born on September 14, 1928. He was the only child of the late James Martin Roberts and Lettie Trefzer Roberts. He grew up in Avondale along the St. Johns River and graduated from Robert E. Lee High School, class of 1946.

After high school, Dean joined the US Army and was stationed at West Point where he served as Military Police during World War II. Upon leaving the Army he enrolled in Florida State University, and played fullback for the Seminoles football team. He was a founding member of Sigma Nu Fraternity and a member of the Cavaliers Men's Dancing Honorary. While at FSU he met the love of his life, Angela Elizabeth Parker Faircloth. They loved to go dancing to the popular big band music. Dean earned his bachelor's degree in Health Education in 1951 and he and Angela were married in 1952.

Dean and Angela moved to Rocky Mount, North Carolina where he worked for Lederle Pharmaceuticals for 12 years. While there they had three children and were active members of the First Baptist Church where he was an ordained Deacon.

In 1965, the family moved back to Jacksonville to be near their relatives. In 1969, they were blessed with their 4th child.

Dean served as a Deacon and Sunday School Teacher at First Baptist Church in downtown Jacksonville for 30+ years. He taught Science and Health in the Duval County Schools and helped create the first drug abuse awareness curriculum. In 1969 he earned his Masters degree in Education Administration from the University of Florida. He was the Dean of Students at Jeb Stuart Jr High School and later was the Vice Principal at John Gorrie Jr High School. After 27 years with Duval County Schools, he retired in 1992.

Dean was a family man who enjoyed fishing, fish frys, camping trips, traveling, growing vegetables and fruit trees, watching college football, watching westerns and cheering on his grandchildren, Robert, Steven, Sarah, Lee, Madeleine, & Will, at their sports events. The family spent most weekends at church, the lake house, beaches and camping.
