Jay Logan Stokes Obituary Published by Gramkow Funeral Home & Crematory On March 20th, 2019, our hero, our rock, and patriarch of our family-Jay Logan Stokes, passed away unexpectedly at the age of 69 years old. He will forever be remembered by his wife and best friend of 41 years, Mary, along with their two beloved sons, Joshua and Jeremiah. He is also survived by son-in-law, Robert and daughter-in-law, Lisa, his three grand-children, Eli, Emie, Elliot, and loving sisters Jan, Joy and Jill. He will be fondly remembered by his extended family and friends for always being there when needed and the profound impact he had on their lives. Born in Key West on November 4th, 1949 to Paul and Betty Stokes, Jay was the oldest of his siblings. Known for his undeniable presence, Jay's personality was equally matched by his physical stature. He spent his formative years developing as a student-athlete at Seminole High School, and later played five years of college football at Florida State University, an experience he cherished. Part of a great brotherhood, Jay remained in contact with several of his teammates for the remainder of his life. His fondness for learning led to a master's degree in Business Administration at FSU, in addition to master's degrees in education and exercise physiology at the University of Central Florida. He spent several years as a teacher, coach and assistant principal in Seminole County, known as "Coach Stokes" by peers and students alike, but for the last 20 years, enjoyed working as a Registered Nurse in both the Cath lab and the Interventional Radiology lab at Florida Hospital. His favorite endeavor was the role of grandfather to Eli, Emie and Elliot, his "babies" as Jay called them, and the last five years of his storied life were dedicated to them. Jay's legacy is one of
courage, commitment, strength and love. He spent his life developing his
character, valuing loyalty, honesty, work-ethic and resiliency, but above
all, his faith. |
