Frederick Martin Hudson went home to be with his
Lord and Savior on June, 3, 2024, due to an aggressive Blood Cancer just
diagnosed on Good Friday. He was born in Pensacola, FL, on May 16, 1945 to
Martin Clabron Hudson and Irma Sue Hudson. He grew up in Milton, Florida,
graduating from Milton High School where he lettered all years in
Basketball and Football. He was voted "Mr. M.H.S.", the highest Superlative
Award. He was appointed to the U.S. Air Force Academy but could not attend
as he didn't qualify as a Pilot as required due to the flight mouth piece
not working in his mouth. He was awarded a full Football Scholarship to
Florida State University under Head Coach Bill Peterson where, as an End,
Assistant Coach Bobby Bowden was his coach. He majored in Marketing and had
a Master Degree in Public Administration. He was an excellent piano player
having taken years of lessons and was blessed to be able to play anything
he heard by ear.
He worked for the State of Florida for fifty-three
years in Information Systems at the Comptroller's Office, Dept. of
Transportation, Dept.of Health and Rehabilitation Service now know as the
Dept. of Children and Families and finally at the State Data Center
currently housed at Florida State University. Beginning with writing code
for Main Frames with Key Punch Cards to current computers, he worked in
every area including Data Base to Assistant Director to Data Center
Facilities Security to Disaster Recovery and Hot Sight Testing which was
his favorite. He obtained several certifications, the most coveted of which
is the Certified Information Systems Security Professional, known as CISSP.
{Lynn teased that means Certified Idiot Semi--Smart Person. He quickly
stated it means Certified Super Smart Person while convulsing in laughter.
This was one of their favorite laughs together). He was a Licensed Real
Estate Broker and a Licensed Building Contractor.
As a member of John
Wesley United Methodist Church, he served in various roles from Sunday
School Superintendent to Finance Committee Chairman to Sunday School
Teacher with his wife of the Two Year Old Sunday School Class. He always
said that was the best job he ever had. He loved all those children and
enjoyed a active, life long relationship with most of them, which he
treasured deeply.
He enjoyed FSU sports especially Basketball and
Football. He watched every football game possible, sitting in the metal
stadium for the Twenty-Three straight losses in the 1970's because he said
"You Cannot be a Fair Weather Fan". Fishing was his other passion from
reading, watching TV shows to collecting lures, flies rods and reels, he
was proud of catching several Bass eight, ten, eleven and thirteen plus
pounds. He would rather fish than eat and he loved to eat.
He was
proceeded by his wonderful first wife, Devon Fahringer Hudson, his father,
mother, infant sister Linda Sue Hudson, special Aunt and Uncle Martha and
Herman Drake, sweet cousin Connie Drake, many aunts, uncles, cousins. He is
survived by soul mate, wife of fifty-one years, Lynn, sister Shirley Holmes
and her children Rev. Doug Holmes, Don Holmes, Dan Holmes-and special niece
Robin Holmes Rogers, special niece Michelle Wentworth who called him
"Huncle", her very Handsome Uncle. He was a father to her. Special cousin
Gwen Drake, Cousin Pat Leonard, much loved brother-in-law Steve Fahringer,
many other family members, many dear, special friends and his Fishing
Buddies, all of whom he loved.
At his request, there will be no service
due to age, health and care taking plus distance of family as they would be
distraught not attending. He loved them so couldn't put them through that.
Always concerned for others over himself, he was a loving, kind, caring,
good, funny man who never said a bad word about anyone. He was full of
integrity. If desired, a donation in memory of Fred may be made to John
Wesley United Methodist Church, Multiple Sclerosis Society, Florida Special
Olympics or the Charity of your choice. Grateful.
