Y.C. McNease Obituary. Published by Tallahassee Democrat on Mar 10, 2023, page A6. MONTICELLO - Y.C. McNease, age 87, passed away on March 7, 2023 in his home in Monticello, Florida. He was born on February 1, 1936 to parents Sollie and Willie Thornton McNease in Raleigh, Mississippi. He grew up in both Raleigh and Leland areas and graduated from Leland High School in 1956. A lover of all sports, Y.C. ran track, boxed in the heavyweight division, and would later excel in all things football. Shortly after graduating, Y.C. joined the United States Marine Corps. Among his various duties, he also played for Camp Lejeune's USMC football team and was discharged from active duty 3 years later after reaching the rank of Lance Corporal. He would continue to serve in the USMC Reserve while attending Florida State University to earn his Bachelors. He was also a proud member of their football team and played as a linebacker, fullback, end, and center. Upon graduation, he became their assistant coach. His passion for football would not end there. He also served as an assistant coach at Wichita State (1964), Texas Western (1965), Michigan (1966-1967), Idaho (1968-1969, head coach), Kansas State (1970) as well as UTEP (1971-72). Upon retiring from his illustrious football career, Y.C. entered the insurance and financial services industry which took him and his family to Athens, Georgia, in the Palouse area of Idaho as well as Coeur d'Alene, Idaho. At this time, Y.C. had a seasonal home in Monticello, Florida and his family would later settle there permanently. Y.C. is remembered for his storytelling talents, humility, and deep love for his always-growing family. Survivors include his loving wife of nearly 28 years, Kathy H. McNease; children Cindy McNease Bozeman (Russell) of Statesboro, George, Doug McNease (Patty) of Monticello, Florida. Monica Vick (Donald) of Bethlehem, Georgia and Melissa Kinney of Bogart, Georgia; grandchildren Garrett Bozeman (Kelly), Graden Bozeman (Ericka), Rachael Bozeman Carter, Callie McNease, Carson McNease, Rhiannon Vick and Niyla Kinney; great-grandchildren Hadley Bozeman, Everett Bozeman, Jase Carter and Brody Bozeman. Y.C. is now reunited with his parents and his
siblings who preceded him in passing: Delton McNease, Junior McNease,
Claudine McNease Bounds, Madeline McNease Killebrew and Pauline McNease
