Lamar Weston Minton Obituary. Published in The Florida Times-Union, Jacksonville, Fla. Lamar West Minton Jr. (Weston) passed away peacefully
at home, surrounded by loved ones. He was 84 years old. Born in
Jacksonville Beach on the fourth of July 1933 to Larmar and Iva Minton,
Weston grew up on the beaches and graduated from Fletcher High School. He
excelled in sports and was awarded a full athletic scholarship to Florida
State University where he played football and held track records for many
years. He served our country as a Marine during the Korean war. He married
Nancy Paula Haddix on June 1, 1957 in Lexington Kentucky. They shared
nearly 61 years of life and love together in Atlantic Beach, Florida.
Weston enjoyed a successful career in the Pharmaceutical industry beginning
with Bristol Myers in 1959 and retiring from GlaxoSmithKline(GSK) in 1999.
Upon retirement, Weston and Nancy enjoyed many years of travel at home and
abroad and never missed an FSU home game in over 25 years. Weston was
active in Atlantic Beach; he served as a City Councilman for many years,
was a long time member of Neptune Baptist Church and coached little league
football and baseball. It was not unusual for boys who played for him in
years past to run up to him in the grocery store yelling, "Coach Minton,
Coach Minton." Weston is survived by his wife, Nancy Paula Minton of the
home; son and daughter-in-law Lamar W. Minton III and Amy Minton of
Jacksonville Beach, Florida; daughter and son-in-law Allison Dale and Brad
Reider of Carrollton, Texas; grandson Crawford F. Moody III of Asheville,
North Carolina; granddaughter and grandson-in-law Lauren Elizabeth and
Justin Trammell of Ivanhoe, Texas; grandson Dylan Thomas Cardile of
Ivanhoe, Texas; son-in-law Michael Kemp of Jacksonville Beach, Florida;
granddaughter and grandson-in-law Ashely Renee and Marshall Barber of
Calgary; grandson Tyler Jacob Kemp of Jacksonville Beach, Florida. He is
preceded in death by his mother, Iva Minton; father, Lamar West Minton; and
daughter, Cynthia Lea Kemp. |
