Harold "Hal" Cummings (Retired, United States Air Force) born on January
29, 1935, passed away peacefully at his residence in Clermont, Florida on
May 18, 2023. Colonel Cummings served our country in the US Air Force for
29 years. Several of his leadership roles included: Liaison for the
Strategic Air Command, Director of Logistics, Aero Space Maintenance
Director, and Pilot - Strategic Bomber. His military service started at
Florida State University with the ROTC and eventually took him and his
family across the United States and to the Pentagon and oversees for
several tours. After retiring from the military, Hal worked with Grumman
Data Systems as the DMMIS Program Manager.
Harold graduated from Florida
State University with his childhood sweetheart, Martha Ann (Seaver)
Cummings. He furthered his education with several graduate degrees and
certificates. He was a long-time FSU Gold Booster, football season ticket
holder and member of the Silver Chiefs. For decades, he was a member of the
First United Methodist Church, serving key roles within the church (i.e.
Finance Committee, Administrative Council, etc). As a member of Kiwanis for
25 years, he served as Club President, Lieutenant Governor, was on the
Budget Committee, trustee of the Kiwanis Foundation and Scholarship
Account. He organized and led the Oakley Seaver Memorial Golf Tournament
and was a recipient of the esteemed Hixon Award.
Hal Cummings will
always be the beloved father of Elizabeth Ann Cummings, Susan Dale Tack,
Karen Lee Farr, Nancy Hal Cummings, and grandfather of Jonathan Russell
Tack and George Matthew Tack; a devoted brother of Evelyn Judy, Ruth
Garcia, Ella Mae Coke, Emily Cummings, and Winford Cummings and a special
cherished friend of Janet Hoskinson. Hal was preceded in death by Martha
Ann (Seaver) Cummings, his adored wife of 50 years; his daughter, Sarah
Lynn Cummings; his parents, John D. and Grace (Jones) Cummings; his
brother, James Cummings, and sisters Jackie Harbor and Gertrude Knight.
