Published by the Herald Tribune,
Sarasota, Fla. on Jan 25, 2015. Dr. Robert Bruce Pacetti, 79, father of
five and retired dentist, passed on Dec. 31, 2014. He was born in St.
Augustine, Florida on March 17, 1935 to Emory and Virginia Pacetti, and had
one brother Emory James Jr. Robert was a football star at Ketterlinus High
School (Class of 1953) and attended Florida State University on a football
scholarship. After FSU, he served in the US Navy as a shipboard dental
assistant until 1959. Robert attended Emory Dental School in Atlanta,
Georgia where he graduated in 1964, 2nd in his class. Dr. Pacetti practiced
dentistry for twelve years in St. Augustine and Sarasota, Florida.
His
work in dentistry led him to an interest in the effects of nutrition on
human health. At the Page Clinic in St. Petersburg, Florida, he worked with
Dr. Melvin Page on his principles of balanced body chemistry and was
associate director for three years. He educated patients on the health
hazards of sugar and junk food consumption, decades before these were
topics in the mass media. He served on the board of directors for the
Southern Academy of Clinical Nutrition and was an active board member of
the Price-Pottenger Nutrition Foundation and the Western Academy of
Biological Sciences. Dr. Pacetti traveled extensively sharing the
principles of Balancing Body Chemistry with professional audiences and was
committed to improving the health of others.
One dream of his was to
live on a farm, where he and his family would grow the majority of their
own food which he did on a ranch outside of Sarasota, Florida. He was a
private pilot, avid scuba diver and boatman, and pursued these passions all
over Florida and the Caribbean. In one phase of his retirement, he lived in
North Carolina where he ran a candle shop and worked as a white water
rafting guide in the summer. Dr. Pacetti, in particular, loved fishing and
was adept with a casting net, a skill he maintained well into his 70's. He
is survived by his wife Shelly and two children, Soleil and Sage. Robert
was previously married to Paula Parsons and had children Stephen, Bonnie,
Stephanie, and two grandchildren, Kyle and Victoria Thomas.
