Thomas Cary Kuhn II Obituary.

Cremation and Burial Services, Bluffton, S.C. Thomas Cary "Tom" Kuhn II,
died on December 4, 2023, at the age of 88, in Port Royal, South Carolina.
He was born on May 18, 1935 to Thomas Cary Kuhn and Mary Frances Kuhn in
Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He grew up in Ft. Pierce Florida. He attended Ft.
Pierce High School, where he excelled in athletics. He ran the 440 in track
and won most of his races; he held the record for game points for several
years in basketball and was the quarterback and captain of the football
team. In his senior yearbook he was nicknamed "Hero Kuhn."
Tom entered
the USAF through their Air Cadet Program at the age of 18 and received his
commission in 1955. He flew as a navigator and later was assigned as Base
Comptroller at Hahn AB in Hahn, Germany in 1973 and at Shaw AFB in 1978. In
1978 he was honored as The Comptroller of the Year for the USAF. He retired
in 1980 at Shaw AFB in Sumter, SC.
After his military career, Tom worked
as the Executive Director of People's Natural Gas Company in the 1980s.
After leaving People's he worked as an independent consultant and project
manager. Tom held a Bachelor's Degree in Accounting from the University of
South Carolina and a Master's in Management from the University of
Colorado. He also attended the Florida State University prior to joining
the Air Force.
He was active in his community and served on several
civic boards, including Habitat for Humanity and the Salvation Army. He was
a past president of the Sumter Chamber of Commerce. He was a member of the
Church of the Holy Comforter in Sumter, SC. There he served as a lay
Eucharistic minister, lay reader and vestry member. He especially enjoyed
serving with the KAIROS Prison Ministry in South Carolina.
Tom is
predeceased by his beloved wife of 46 years, Nancy Kuhn, and his sister,
Sara Haughton. He is survived by his sister, Judith Schlichter, his
children Krista Grabenbauer and Thomas Cary Kuhn III, his grandchildren,
Brandon Kuhn, Taylor Kuhn, Joshua Grabenbauer and Nancy Grabenbauer and his
great grandson Harrison Kuhn.
