James Stewart Spooner Obituary. Published by the Pensacola News Journal on Sep 17, 2008. James Stewart Spooner-husband, father, brother, coach,
friend. As a young boy growing up in Fort Myers, Jimmy loved the
outdoors-fishing, hunting, playing sports. His love of baseball began in
his youth, continued at Fort Myers High School, then took him to Edison
Junior College and on to Florida State University. His passion for the game
turned into a career that spanned 35 years, giving him many opportunities
to influence the lives of young men. Loved by many and respected by all,
Jimmy spent untold hours developing both the talent and the character of
the young men he coached. That mutual love and respect was apparent by the
efforts of former players to name the University of West Florida baseball
field in his honor, an act that both filled him with joy and humbled him.
During his courageous journey over the past year, he was continually
encouraged by the many cards, emails, calls, and visits from his family,
his friends, and his former players. He will be remembered as a good man
who always took time for everyone who needed him, as a family man, and as a
man with a strong sense of character who loved the Lord. Jimmy's memory
will be cherished by his wife of 36 years, Carolyn, his daughters Jamie
(Timothy) Sousa and Lindsay (David) DeWald and his two grandchildren,
Carson and Caroline. His presence will be missed by his brother Phillip
(Carolyn) Spooner and his sisters, Jeanette (Harry) Brown and Donna Jo
(Frank) Cline, his extended family, and countless friends. |
