Paul Stephen Mastin Obituary. Published by the Winston-Salem Journal on Apr 18, 1998, page 19. NORTH WILKESBORO - A Roaring River man who was critically injured Tuesday in a head-on collision in North Wilkesboro has died. Paul S. Mastin, 50, of 601 Roaring River Road died at 8:55 a.m. in the intensive-care unit of the N.C. Baptist Hospital in Winston-Salem, a hospital spokeswomen said. Mastin suffered head injuries and broken bones in the wreck, which happened at 8:14 a.m. on N.C 18/N.C. 268 on a steep hill known as the Second Street Hill. Witnesses said that Mastin's sport-utility vehicle was going the wrong way when it sideswiped two oncoming vehicles, then collided with a pickup, the North Wilkesboro Police Department said. The series of wrecks sent seven people to the hospital. Investigators say that Mastin, a diabetic, may have had a
hypoglycemic episode - in which the body's blood sugar falls well below
normal - just before his wrecks. |
