John Bristol Obituary Published by Legacy Remembers on Oct. 7, 2008. NORTH ATTLEBORO, Mass. - John Arnold Bristol, 72, Of Oak St. N.Attleboro passed away early Friday Morning October 3, 2008 at EPOCH Senior Healthcare of Norton. Born April 1, 1936 in Sharon, CT, he was the son of the late Newton L. and Mary (Johnston) Bristol. Jack lived most of his life in Norfolk and had been resident of E.Lyme, Ct. prior to moving to N.Attleboro in 2005. He retired from The Rockport Shoe Company 1998 as Director of Merchandise & Inventory where he worked for 17 years. Prior to that he had worked for Stride Rite Shoe in Cambridge for 4 years and Uniroyal, Inc in Naugatuck, Ct. for 18 years. While living in the Naugatuck Valley area he was a member and secretary of the Naugatuck Lions Club, Toastmaster Club of America, A Babe Ruth coach for 13 years, a Little Pal Basketball coach, and one of the originators of the Naugatuck Hall of Fame committee and emcee of the yearly Awards Banquet for 7 years. He was of member of the Naugatuck Charter Revision Committee for more than 2 years. Jack served the community in various aspects which he enjoyed tremendously. He also serviced as a medic in the US Army Reserve from 1959 to 1966. Jack was a graduate of Housatonic Valley Regional High School and achieved his B.S. Degree in Communications from Florida State University in Tallahassee, Fl. Jack was a walk on Varsity Baseball player which soon earned him a full scholarship. In his junior season at Florida State University he was a member of the team that made their first appearance to Omaha, NE NCAA College World Series. Jack signed a major league contract upon graduation from Florida State University with the Kansas City Athletics. He was first assigned to the Triple A Tidewater Tides of Portsmouth, Va. His baseball career started in his High School years as a left handed pitcher where he had his perfect game a no hitter against Stockbridge, MA which his team won 10-0. Jack has received numerous awards for his baseball career, among them he has been inducted into three Halls of Fame. The Housatonic Valley Regional High School Hall of Fame in 1998; the North Battleford, Canada Sports Museum and Hall of Fame in 1994; also, an honorary member of the Naugatuck Hall of Fame in 1981. Jack was also an excellent golfer and played as a member of the Franklin Country Club for over 18 years before his illness took away the game he loved. His hobbies included anything in the sports field along with watching his grandsons play baseball. He is survived by his wife of
46 years, Marilee (DuFour); Two daughters Robin A. and her husband
Salvatore Sciarretta of Stamford, Ct. and Marlene H. and her husband Thomas
Girvan of N.Attleboro; Five grandchildren Michael, Chelsea and Matthew
Sciarretta of Stamford, Ct. and Kevin Girvan and Brianna Bristol of
N.Attleboro; Jack's two sisters, Joan Welch of Bridgeport, Ct. and Kathleen
Kirkham of Augusta, ME; along with several nieces and nephews. |
