Theodore Roosevelt Williams, Jr. Obituary.
Published in the Tallahassee Democrat on 20 Jan 2021, page A7.

On January 15th, 2021 Theodore "Ted" R. Williams Jr. passed away in Tallahassee, FL at the age of 86. He was born July 19, 1934 to Theodore "Theo" R. Williams Sr. and Anna W. Williams. Following the early death of his mother, Ted was raised with love by Marjorie K. Williams.

Ted graduated from Leon High School in 1952, where he was a key member of both the football and baseball teams. He was a recipient of the Bobby Benson Award (1951), was named to the All NEC team of 1951, and was recognized on the All Time 1950s Leon High Football Team. In 2004, Ted was inducted into the Leon High School Football Hall of Fame.

After graduation, Ted was awarded the first full football scholarship to Florida State University along with his close friend Billy Kelley. He was a member of the FSU football team until an injury prevented him from playing but remained a fan all his life. In 1953, Ted enlisted in the U.S. Army and served in Eritrea, where he was quickly recruited by his Captain for the regimental softball team.

On July 20th, 1957, Ted married Ouida Kathleen Barry in Newberry, FL. They were married for 63 years and had 3 sons. Key was the love of his life, and he two were the prime example of a strong marriage and partnership, helping to shape a loving and close-knit family.

That same year, Ted entered into business with his father, Theo, and eventually his brother Bud as well. At Williams Propane, Ted was known for working long hours and treating everyone with respect. He worked alongside his employees, with many customers not realizing he was the owner, simply recognizing him as the driver who gave the "Good" price and always kept his word.

His retirement in 1989 allowed Ted to pursue his many hobbies and spend more time with the family he cherished. He was an avid golfer, playing for many years at Capital City Country Club, Havana Country Club, and annually at the Barracuda Golf Tournament in Waynesville, N.C. He enjoyed dove, quail, and deer hunting, and took annual trips to Colorado with his brother to hunt elk and mule deer, where he eventually served as a guide.

Ted treated everyone he knew with respect and care. He was a big man in stature and in heart - always willing to lend a hand to friends, family, and complete strangers. He loved big and strong, passing on the sense of loyalty that guided him to his children and grandchildren.

Ted was preceded in death by his parents, son Robert Crenshaw Williams, sister Marjorie "Margie" Smith, and brother-in-law L. Ralph "Bubba" Smith.

He is survived by his wife Kay Williams; brother Bud (Tammy); two sons: Barry (Helen) and Burton (Molly); five grandchildren: John (Nicole), Paul, Tucker (Summer), Madison, and Rebecca; great-grandson Liam; as well as Idella Lockett, Ted and Kay's companion of 50 years; his beloved poodle Cupcake, and numerous extended family members.

Ted was a longtime member of East Hill Baptist Church.
