Dossey Clark Merritt Obituary. Published by The Hill Top Times, Hill Air Force Base, Utah, on Mar 16, 1979, page 13. Lt. Col. Dossey C. Merritt, 45, chief of base operations and training, 2849yh Air Base Group, Hill AFB, died March 12, at the USAF Hospital, of an apparent heart attack. He is survived by Dorothy C. Merritt, wife; one son, Douglas; and one daughter, Elizabeth. Both son and daughter reside with their mother. Colonel Merritt was born July 31, 1933, and was a native of Lakeland, Fla. A 1951 graduate of Lakeland High School, he earned a B.S. degree in mathematics at Florida State University at Tallahassee, where he was graduated and received his commission through the Reserve Officers Training Corps program in 1956. He later received a master's degree, also in mathematics, at Florida State through the Air Force Institute of Technology graduate education program in 1965. The colonel served more than 22 years in the Air Force and held the aeronautical rating of command pilot. Prior to his assignment to Hill AFB in June 1978, he was commander of Goodfellow AFB, Tex., at San Angelo, serving there with the Air Force Security Service. He completed a year tour in Vietnam with Seventh Air
Force, serving in flight operations, during 1970-71. |
